SUO Challenges #71

Hello! Happy Tuesday! How are you today? I’m doing well. My Monday was a good one and that never happens. The weather cleared up after it rained all day yesterday, it was sunny and 75 degrees which was actually quite nice!

It’s time for Stampin’ Up! Only Challenges once again. This week we were asked to use our favorite retiring stamp set. I have a lot of favorite retiring stamp sets and other goodies so I used two and some retiring colors!

My card starts off with a base of Not Quite Navy Card Stock. I added a layer of Lucky Limeade on top of that. The stamped images are from the French Foliage Stamp Set and are stamped in Lucky Limeade, Not Quite Navy and Crumb Cake. For the greeting I used the Word Play Stamp Set and some Not Quite Navy ink. These two sets are definitely on the top of my list along with the two colors. I never realized how well Not Quite Navy and Lucky Limeade look together either! Woo hoo! The color renovation has been announced! I’m so happy that they have kept four of the five 2011-2013 In-Colors! I’m a little sad to see that Lucky Limeade didn’t make the cut but we also got some former In-Colors back too! Bermuda Bay, Soft Sky, Crushed Curry, Pear Pizzaz and Blushing Bride along with a new color Smokey Shadow. They have also moved some colors to different families and of course they are retiring some colors. Say so long to Regal Rose, Pretty in Pink, Bashful Blue, Certainly Celery, Baja Breeze, Riding Hood Red, Bravo Burgundy, Not Quite Navy, More Mustard and River Rock. Change is a good thing!

Control Freaks May Blog Tour!

Hello everyone and welcome to the Control Freaks Blog Tour for May 2013. The focus this month is on the goodies from the new 2013-2014 Catalog! I’m really liking the new stuff that I have had the chance to play with and my wish list is growing every time I look through the catalog again, and again! If you are following the tour you have arrived here form the incredibly talented Connie Babbert’s blog. She always has such amazing projects! Today I have two cards and a 3D project for you so let’s get to them!

First up is a card that is basically a one layer card. I used the Wildflower Meadow Background Stamp and my Stampin’ Write Markers to color it in. The colors are Gumball Green, Calypso Coral, Pool Party and Primrose Petals. After I stamped the image I used the coordinating Wildflower Meadow Textured Impressions Embossing Folder to perfectly emboss the entire stamped image, how cool is that?! The only thing left to do is to stamp the greeting from the Really Good Greetings Stamp Set in Pool Party and mount it to a piece of Pool Party Card Stock. It’s a great stamp/embossing folder combo and markered it has big impact!

My second card uses the new Mosaic Madness Stamp Set with the coordinating Punch and Designer Series Paper. The main panel of the card has the border form the Mosaic Madness Stamp Set stamped in Strawberry Slush. The Quatrefancy Specialty Designer Series Paper is punched out on the top and bottom with the Mosaic Punch along with the ones on either side which were embossed with the Modern Mosaic Textured Impressions Embossing Folder and then stamped. The greeting is from the Really Good Greetings Stamp Set and has the ends flagged. There are some Basic Jewels Rhinestones on the greeting and the mosaics. Everything is stamped in Strawberry Slush which is a new In-Color. I love the monochromatic look of the card and the greeting is one of my favorites form the set.

My last project is a 3D one. I wanted to show off the new In-Colors and I thought that a vase full of flowers would be a good way to do it. All of the flowers are punched out with the Fancy Flower Punch. I used my hot glue gun to assemble them and also to fix the Vintage Faceted Designer Buttons in their center. The tag on the vase also includes the two brand new colors that are added to the color families, Smokey Slate and Soft Sky. The friends is from the You’re Amazing Stamp Set, which is also in the new catalog. I really like the new In-Colors, Costal Cabana, Baked Brown Sugar, Pistachio Pudding, Crisp Cantaloupe and Strawberry Slush and Smoky Slate is fast becoming a favorite too.

Paper Players #146 :-)

Ahh, Sunday morning is so much nicer in the Hampton’s! LOL! It is really relaxing out here, very quiet and woodsy. My friend has a lovely little house on a very quiet street. We went to see another friend yesterday and she lives on Bluff Road, you can see and hear the ocean from her house. It is a different world out here and it’s only an hour and a half drive (off season with no traffic!) from where I live. If you are ever in the area it’s definitely a must see place! Here is a picture of the sunset last night…

Today’s post is for this week’s Paper Players and we have a fun CAS Masculine challenge from Ann…

I decided to use one of my favorite sets from the Spring Catalog and some of the new In-Colors. The base of my card is Costal Cabana* Card Stock. I used a piece of adhesive cork sheet in the middle and flagged the bottom. The main panel is stamped in Baked Brown Sugar* using the Beyond Plaid Stamp Set backed with some Baked Brown Sugar* Card Stock. The watch is from the Dapper Dad Stamp Set and is heat embossed with Silver Stampin’ Emboss Powder. The center dial is stamped in Baked Brown Sugar* and cut out with my Paper Snips. For the greeting I used the From My Heart Stamp Set and cut it out with the Bitty Banners Framelits Dies. Dapper Dad, I think is one of the best masculine stamp sets we have had and I love the way the watch looks embossed. Pals Paper Arts 159

Saturday! My work free, glorious Saturday! How are you today? I’m doing well. I’m off to the Hampton’s this morning with my friend Chantal. She has a beautiful house in the Springs in East Hampton. It’s supposed to be a nice day today and for most of the day tomorrow too. I’ll be blogging from out East tomorrow as we say here on Long Island. As I sat down to make my Pals Paper Arts card I was going through my mental inventory (which is dicey to say the least!) and I remembered an oldie but goodie!

Today’s post – Pals Paper Arts 159, a sketch from Margaret Moody…

The base of my card is Baja Breeze Card Stock, which I apparently hoarded at some point, I have a lot left! The paper is from the Patio Party Designer Series Paper Pack. For the greeting I used the once controversial Carry On Stamp Set, the crown is also from that set. A piece of Summer Starfruit 3/8″ Stitched Sating Ribbon goes across the middle of the card. The two tiny butterflies are from the Collage Curios Stamp Set and are cut out with my Paper Snips. Just a reminder that all of these products will become “Vintage” as of June 3rd, you get some extra time to order as well being able to order from the Spring Catalog and the new 2013-2014 Catalog. Yeah! It’s Friday! My favorite day of the week, work will done soon and it will be the weekend! So, last night I went to see Star Trek: Into the Darkness in IMAX 3D and it was amazing! I loved it. It was action packed, funny and sad. Not things that you would necessarily expect from a Star Trek movie. I may even go and see it again! The weather here today was a little muggy in the morning but then it turned into a nice sunny day. This weekend I will be heading out to the Hampton’s with my friend Chantal so that should be fun.

Today’s post – Create with Connie and Mary 252, colors…

Some nice soft colors and I kept my card nice and clean too. The base of the card is Soft Suede Card Stock. I used a piece of the Tea for Two Designer Series Paper and the Artisan Label Punch* to punch out a piece from the middle. I stamped one of the stamps from Label Love in Sahara Sand on Very Vanilla and adhered it to the base. The DSP is adhered with Stampin’ Dimensionals. Two pieces of Sahara Sand are flagged and adhered to either side of the label. The butterfly is from the Best of 25 Butterflies Stamp Set and the greeting is from the A Round Array Stamp Set. Freshly Made Sketches #86 & Sneak Peek

Thursday… so close to Friday I can taste it! This has been another really long week, lots going on. Have I told you that if I could give up sleep I gladly would?!?! I could get so much more done! LOL! It’s supposed to be really nice here today with temps going up into the 80’s. Later on I’m going to Star Trek – Into the Darkness in IMAX 3D. I loved the last one and the IMAX part makes any movie better. I’ll give you my review tomorrow!

Today’s post – Freshly Made Sketches #86, a sketch from Amy…

Super clean, super simple, that’s what I was going for with my card. The base is Whisper White Card Stock and I stamped the greeting from Loving Thoughts in Costal Cabana* right on the base. The paper is from the Quatrefancy Specialty Designer Series Paper Pack*. To make the scallop along the bottom I used the the Adorning Accents Edgelits Dies. The stamps are form the Mosaic Madness Stamp Set* and are stamped in Strawberry Slush* and Costal Cabana*. Some Stampin’ Dimensionals pop them and the line across the middle up. Paper Craft Crew #42 & Sneak Peek

Hey, what’s up?! How are things by you? Things here are ok. It was chilly again today but it’s supposed to be a little warmer tomorrow but we are to have some rain again. Today’s post – Paper Craft Crew Design Team Sketch #42…

I’m liking when things are slightly askew on cards more and more. The base of my card is Pear Pizzaz Card stock. I used the Petals-A-Plenty Textured Impressions Embossing Folder on some Island Indigo for the background. The paper is from the Gingham Garden Designer Series Paper Pack*. The large greeting is from the Really Good Greetings Stamp Set* and is stamped in Night of Navy. I used the 7/8″ Scallop Circle punch to create the flower and a Vintage Faceted Designer Button is in the center. The happy birthday is from the Wishes Your Way Stamp Set. Mojo 293 & Sneak Peek

Why are Monday’s always so difficult?! Let me tell you that a three day weekend makes them even harder! Oh, and it felt like fall here again today. What is up with that?! Yoo hoo… Mother Nature, we are supposed to be getting warmer now thanks! I saw that someone said they had snow yesterday! Yikes!

Today’s post – Mojo Monday, a sketch from Julee Tilman…

I have to say that so far out of all of the new stuff I’m thinking that the Soho Subway Designer Series Paper* is my favorite! It has some great colors and I love the vintage graphic feel to it. The base of my card is Island Indigo Card Stock and the background is Very Vanilla stamped with the Woodgrain Background Stamp in Early Espresso. I used the Woodgrain Textured Impressions Embossing Folder on some Early Espresso on top of that. The piece of Summer Starfruit and the Island Indigo Circle are pierced with the Essentials Paper-Piercing Pack and the flags are made using the Bitty Banners Framelits Dies. The circle of Designer Series Paper is Soho Subway* and the greeting is from the Label Love Stamp Set* and is punched out with the Artisan Punch*. I made my “bow” with the Bitty Banners Framelits Dies and the 1/2″ Circle Punch. With a Soda Pop Top in the middle and the No. 1 from the Postage Collection Host(ess) Stamp Set* it completes the card. I managed to use the Postage Collection Stamp Set again and I’m a little bummed that the Soda Pop Tops didn’t carry over. What are you going to miss? Simple Monday

Good Monday morning to you! How was your weekend? Mine was fantastic, mostly due to the fact that it was a three day weekend for me! I got all of my little projects done, cleaned the house, spent time with my peeps and crafted for like 16 hours!! Now that’s a good weekend. I have two cards for you today. I made these last night, one was from some scraps I had left over and the other one was just because. Sometime you just need a simple card and that’s just what these two are.

The first one is really simple. I had these triangles left over from something else I was working on and I thought maybe just glue them down the center of a card base of Pool Party and have them point to a greeting. The greeting is from the Best of 25 Love Stamp Set and is stamped in Basic Gray. The triangles are Basic Gray, Crumb Cake and Bermuda Bay. Super simple yet sleek and modern. Triangles are very big right now too so it’s a little trendy!

The second card is a case of a card that I had seen either on Pinterest or a magazine. Simple base and background of Whisper White. The feather is from the Fine Feathers Stamp Set and is stamped in Bermuda Bay (think I like the color a little?!) and the greeting is from the A Little Greeting Wood Mount Stamp Set. Some Calypso Coral spritzed and a little piece of Epic Day This & That Washi Tape and we are almost done. I happened to have some sequins that match the Bermuda Bay color perfectly so I added three! Again super simple card but it still has some wow factor. Perfect just let someone know you are thinking of them.

Paper Players 145 :-) & Sneak Peek

Hello there! Thanks for stopping by to see me today, how has your weekend been. Mine has been stellar! I had off of work on Friday and I crafted for about nine hours yesterday. It rained almost all day so it was the perfect day to be creative. I plan on being crafty again today too! It’s Sunday so that means its time for this week’s Paper Players!

This week we have a color challenge from Jaydee…

I have to admit that I had a little trouble with these colors at first. I decided that I would use some new goodies to jump start the creative juices. The base of the card is Very Vanilla Card Stock. I cut off 1 1/2 from the front after I used the Distressed Dots Background Stamp. The panel on the right is embossed with the Lacy Brocade Textured Impressions Embossing Folder. The paper on the left is from the Print Poetry Designer Series Paper Stack. The greeting is from the Label Love Stamp Set* and is punched out with the Artisan Label Punch*. All of the large postage stamps are from the Postage Collection Host(ess) Stamp Set* and the small ones are from the Lovely Little Labels Stamp Set, I let them hang over the edge for a little something different. The Postage Collection set is great because it’s a builder set, you can make the stamps the way you want. I was inspired by my friend Sandy to cut off some of the front of the card, it’s a nice change from the usual.
