Freshly Made Sketches 107

So I did my little commute into the city yesterday, and just like I suspected, I was reminded why I don’t do it every day anymore. I did get lucky in the respect that it didn’t rain, I had a very nice lunch with my friend Kim and I got all the work accomplished that I was supposed to; all in all it was a good day. And bonus, today’s Friday and we all know that Friday is my favorite day of the week! Not sure what’s up for the weekend yet, but I think I’ll be trekking into Manhattan at some point. Anything exciting going on with you?

Freshly Made Sketches is my card for today’s post. This week’s sketch is by Jennifer T…

This week’s sketch is definitely very clean. I was going to go with the obvious, a flower or a snowflake, but I decided to try something different. I used Whisper White Card Stock for the base of my card. The background consists of a piece of Brights Stack Designer Series Paper backed with a piece of Early Espresso. I used one of the tags from the Pretty Presents Designer Tags, stamped the greeting from Merry Little Christmas in Early Espresso, and again in Real Red to trim out the word “little” and pop it up on a Stampin’ Dimensional. I trimmed off some of the bottom of the tag and then used the Tasteful Trim Bigs XL Die and a piece of Early Espresso Card Stock rick-rack across the bottom. To finish off the tag, I tied a piece of Early Espresso 1/4″ Stitched Grosgrain Ribbon. Some more Stampin’ Dimensionals adhere it to the card. I really like the Tasteful Trim Big XL Die, I don’t know why it took me so long to get it. And I think it’s kind of neat the way the red polka dots fit right inside the rick-rack. Mojo 314

It was a little on the chilly side here yesterday and it’s supposed to start raining today and not stop until Saturday. Like I said, there goes the nice weather. I’m off to Manhattan today for my day job. I have a meeting in the morning and then I have to visit one of our affiliates in the afternoon. I’m going to sneak lunch in with my friend Kim though which makes it all worth it. I commuted to the city for six years and I was over it after 2! It’s a long day and my hats off to the people that do it every day. Later it’s off to the gym again!

My card for today is for this week’s Mojo Monday Sketch Challenge. This week’s sketch is provided by Julee Tilman…

I had a lot of fun using the gold and black on my card yesterday, so I decided to use them again today! The base of today’s card is Very Vanilla Card Stock. The background is a piece of Basic Black that I embossed with the Houndstooth Textured Impressions Embossing Folder. A piece of Brushed Gold Card Stock is cut out with the Circles Collections Framelits Dies and adhered to the background with Stampin’ Dimensionals. Next up is a piece of “Vintage” Basic Black 1/4″ Grosgrain Ribbon that goes across the center. The flag is a piece of Modern Medley Designer Series Paper. I choose the greeting from the Four You Stamp Set and heat embossed with Gold Stampin’ Emboss Powder on Basic Black and layered it with a piece of Brushed Gold and Very Vanilla. A Neutrals Designer Series Button completes the card. I really do like the black and gold together, I think it makes for a very elegant card, and the embossing folder coordinates perfectly with the DSP. Paper Craft Crew 62

So yesterday I made my first foray into the gym… ever. A few weeks ago I decided that it was time to get into shape. Plus, it’s healthy to go to the gym, right? I managed to talk to my friend Andrew into going with me so we can motivate one another; I’ll keep you posted as to how it goes. The weather today was nice, sunny and a little cooler, but nice nonetheless. I have to go into Manhattan on Thursday for work, and it’s supposed to rain, that should prove to be tons of fun. I love the city, but not so much when it rains.

Today I have my Design Team card for this week’s Paper Craft Crew sketch challenge. This week we have a nice simple sketch…

The base of today’s card is Basic Black Card Stock. I used a stamp from the Lots of Thanks Stamp Set to heat emboss the thanks in Gold Stampin’ Emboss Powder directly on the card base. The flower images are from the Morning Meadow Host(ess) Stamp Set. They’re both stamped in Black Staz-On ink. The bunch of flowers is cut out with the Ovals Collection Framelits and backed with a piece of the Gold Foil Sheet, also cut out with the Ovals Collection Framelits. The large flower is punched out with the Pansy Punch and a piece of Gold Foil is punched out with the Itty Bitty Shapes Punch Pack and adhered in the center. Four Basic Jewels Pearls are adhered on top of that. Along the top of the oval are three matte black sequins with three Basic Jewels Pearls in the center of them. I love the simple elegance of the card and the wow that the Gold Foil Sheet gives it. I hope you enjoyed my simple, elegant card for this week’s Paper Craft Crew Sketch Challenge. SUO Challenges 81

It was officially a Monday yesterday! I have given up all hope of catching up at work and I am just going to go with it. They can add much faster than I can subtract! LOL! The weather here yesterday was a little sunny in the morning and then it got gradually gloomier until it started raining around 5:00. I guess that’s the end of our glorious weather, and I was enjoying it so much! All good things must come to an end as they say. Did you have a good Monday? I hope so!

For today’s post I have my card for the SUO Challenges. This time around we are asked to make a masculine project. I know most people think dark browns or dark blues but I’m a guy and I like all sorts of colors! I went with the metal look and some bright blues.

The base of the card is Pacific Point Card Stock with a layer of Tempting Turquoise. I used a piece of the Silver Foil Sheets with the Chevron Textured Impressions Embossing Folder for the top of the background. All of the stamped images and greeting are from the Rev Up the Fun! Stamp Set and are stamped in Pacific Point and Tempting Turquoise except for the tire tracks, they are stamped in Basic Gray. Some chevrons punched out with the Chevron Border Punch, again in Pacific Point and Tempting Turquoise, give the card a little motion in front of and behind the race cars. I’m really glad that I got the Rev Up the Fun! set, I have used it a lot more than I thought I would! I’m also loving the bright blues with the SIlver Foil Sheets and they emboss really nicely. Paper Players 166

And there goes another weekend, so fast! I had a great weekend and hope you did too. Yesterday it was gloomy so I crafted in the morning and then went with a friend of mine to see the Rise of the Jack-O-Lanterns at Westbury Gardens. I have to say that it was pretty neat! It starts at 7:00pm, with groups going through every 15 minutes and you can take your time and linger. It’s also pretty cool because at the end there is a walk through a completely overgrown path and then a nice walk along the pond. I took a bunch of pictures and I have a few to share with you. A nice bonus was that I got to see my Sandy who was there with some of her family!

The first one is the really neat sign that they have at the entrance.

The next one is a really cool Edward Scissorhands made from a bunch of pumpkins.

Up next is a really cool city scene complete with a set of subway cars.

This last one I just thought was so cool, it is a very realistic wave.

Now those were some pretty awesome pumpkins! I wish I would have brought a camera so I could have zoomed in to get a little closer but I’m so use to taking pictures with my iPhone I never think about a camera!

It’s Monday which means it’s time for this week’s Paper Players challenge. This week we have a fun Halloween theme challenge from the lovely Nance…

I was going to do the treat holder but then I was possessed by the need to make a Halloween card with Gumball Green! The base of the card is Basic Black Card Stock and the background is a piece of Gumball Green. For the top and bottom of the card I cut out some Silver Glimmer Paper and Pumpkin Pie with the Large Scallop Edgelit Die and layered them. My fun little skulls are from the Halloween Hello Stamp Set and are stamped in Jet Black Staz-On and cut out with my Paper Snips. Some Stampin’ Dimensionals hold them securely to the Glimmer Paper. The greeting is from the Seasonal Sayings Stamp Set (which is a carry-over from last year’s Holiday Catalog) and is markered in Gumball Green and Pumpkin Pie. I used the Chalk Talk Framelits Dies to cut it out and another piece of Silver Glimmer Paper. Under that is a piece of Basic Black that I cut out with the Labels Collection Framelits Dies and embossed it using the “Vintage” Spider Web Textured Impressions Embossing Folder. I love Gumball Green for a Halloween card and the Glimmer Paper and the skulls are just fun! Just Add Ink 185

Yesterday I went into Manhattan for a little while. I actually did a fair amount of walking, about 8 miles altogether and 3 of them in about an hour! Nice way to get some exercise don’t you think?! Some of you have mentioned that you like to see pictures of the city so I took a few on my travels. The first one is the Citibank building on Lexington Ave. Something that you may not know about the building is that they built it with no corner supports because there was a church on the corner that had to stay. The supports are in the middle of each side, pretty neat that it stays up!

The next picture was taken while I was walking down Lexington Avenue. You can see that there isn’t a lot of traffic for a Saturday and if you look way down the street you can just see the Chrysler Building on the left.

I will make sure to take some pictures whenever I wander around Manhattan!

As promised I have a few cards to share with you today. First I will tell you about my Just Add Ink card for their color challenge this week. At the end of the post I will share my mum’s birthday card and also a note card that I sent to a friend. Here are the colors for JAI challenge…

A fun bunch of colors with two neutrals! The base of my card is Coastal Cabana Card Stock and the first background layer is a piece of Raspberry Ripple. I stamped the Filmstrip Stamp in Sahara Sand on Very Vanilla twice next to each other, one slightly lower. A flag from the Hearts a Flutter Stamp Set is stamped in Raspberry Ripple and cut out with the Hearts a Flutter Framelits Dies goes on top of the filmstrips. The stars are from the SImply Stars Stamp set and are stamped in Raspberry Ripple and Coastal Cabana, the large stars are punched out with the “Vintage” Large Star Punch and the little ones are cut out with my Paper Snips. For the greeting I used the Banner Greetings Host(ess) Stamp Set stamped in Raspberry Ripple. A piece of Coastal Cabana is cut out with the Expressions Thinlits Dies and adhered in the top left corner with some 2-Way Glue. One of the Neutrals Designer Button with some Linen Thread tied in a bow completes the card. I love the color combination and the randomness of the card. I hope we get some more Expressions Thinlits in the Spring Catalog!

Next up is my mum’s birthday card. Remember I told you the she requested a card this year? I had show her the card that I made for my Aussie mate Carolyn and she, also being a big butterfly fan loved it. I made one for her but changed it up a bit.

Here is the inside with the fun Swallowtail that pops up when you open up the card.

Finally here is a card that I made for my friend Bev using the new Map it Out Photopolymer Stamp Set.

I’m off to Manhattan for a bit today but I will be doing some serious crafting later. Nothing out of the ordinary but today is a special day because it’s World Card Making Day! I love the stamps! Shocker! LOL! Now for today’s post I have my Pals Paper Arts card for this week’s color challenge…

Remember when I said that yesterday it was very unusual for me to use a color challenge for the obvious card? Well, I went in the complete opposite direction today! The base of today’s card is Baked Brown Sugar that I cut out with my Circle Card Thinlits Die. I left the right side over the top to make the extended piece, I like to do that because it gives you a little more space to write. The middle of the front circle is a piece of Pumpkin Pie that I cut out with the Circles Collection Framelits, I also used them to cut out the ring around the circle. Some Pear Pizzaz cut out with the Little Leaves Sizzlit Die goes on top of the circle and also on either side at the bottom. One of the stamps from the Christmas Collectibles Stamp Set is stamped in Pumpkin Pie and punched out with the Christmas Ornament Punch. In the middle is one of the In Color Boutique Details in Baked Brown Sugar. On the inside of the circle is a piece of Pear Pizzaz punched out with the 2 1/2″ Circle Punch and the greeting is from the Christmas Messages Stamp Set and is cut out with the Deco Labels Collection Framelits Dies. My favorite part of the card is the way that the ring circles the outside and then the inside. Also, when I think of Christmas I don’t necessarily think of red and green, decorations are all kinds of colors. I hope that you enjoyed my card for this week’s Pals Paper Arts color challenge. Fab Friday 28

Well, it looks like our run of good weather is going to come to an end on Sunday night. We’re finally supposed to get some rain, but luckily the temperatures will still stay in the 70’s. It’s Friday today, which as you know, makes me a very happy person. Tomorrow, I will be going into Manhattan for a little while to see some peeps, and then back home in the evening for some crafty goodness because tomorrow is World Card Making Day!

Now for today’s card which is my Design Team card for this week’s Fab Friday color challenge…

The obvious choice for these colors was Halloween, and usually I wouldn’t do that but I wanted to play with my new Photo Polymer Set. The base of the card is Tangerine Tango. For the background I heat embossed the spiderweb from the Bite Me Photo Polymer Stamp Set with Basic Black Stampin’ Emboss Powder on Rich Razzleberry. I also did the same to two of the spiders and cut them out with my Paper Snips; Stampin’ Dimensionals hold them in place on the web. A piece of Witches’ Brew Designer Series Paper goes across the bottom. My Old Olive tag is rounded at the top with the 2 1/2″ Circle Punch and flagged at the bottom. Some Tangerine Tango Stampin’ Emboss Powder and the Halloween Bash Stamp Set give us the greeting and a piece of “Vintage” Very Vanilla 1/8″ Taffeta Ribbon finishes off the tag. Three tickets from the That’s the Ticket Stamp Set stamped in Tangerine Tango across the bottom complete the card. My favorite part about the Photo Polymer stamps is that since they’re clear you don’t need a Stamp-a-ma-jig to get a perfect placement. Freshly Made Sketches 106

Yesterday was just like summer here! It got up to 84 degrees and was sunny with a slight breeze. We have been so lucky to have this weather and I’m enjoying every minute of it. It’s going to be a little cooler but more humid today and should stay that way through the weekend. Wahoo! (Paper Pumpkin pun intended!) I wanted to take a minute and thank Brian for his wonderful post yesterday and to thank all of you for your kind comments. I really am very happy that he and I have become such good friends, I couldn’t ask for a better one. I did see all of the comments on some kind of tutorial and if I have some time this weekend I will put together something. I couldn’t show how to do the whole card, that would be a mini-series! LOL! I’m really happy that you all enjoyed the card!

A very clean sketch indeed! I went with a really rich holiday card, I’m loving the gold, it’s everywhere at the moment! The base of my card is a piece of Cherry Cobbler Card Stock. For the background I used a piece of paper from the Season of Style Designer Series paper Pack and backed it with a piece of Brushed Gold Card Stock. Yup, there’s that wreath again! LOL! I heat embossed the Wonderful Wreath Stamp in Gold Stampin’ Emboss Powder and used my Circles Collection Framelits to cut it out. The greeting is from the Greetings of the Season Stamp Set (which is a carry over from last year’s Holiday Catalog) and that is heat embossed in Cherry Cobbler Stampin’ Emboss Powder on Brushed Gold and backed with a piece of Cherry Cobbler. Two thin strips of Cherry Cobbler are adhered across the top and bottom and some Stampin’ Dimensionals adhere it to the card. I love the simple elegance and richness of the Cherry Cobbler and the Brushed Gold. A very regal Holiday card indeed! Weather, yes it was like summer here today! I was thoroughly enjoying it, especially on the way home from work with the top down and the radio turned up! I’m not looking forward to the winter, no more topless car. Although I have been known to put the top down and the heat on! LOL! That is a lot going on for this month! Now on to today’s post which is for this week’s Paper Craft Crew. We have an interesting sketch for you this week…

I will definitely admit that when I first saw the sketch I was a little unsure of what I was going to do. Eventually I finally settled on a vintagey card! The base of today’s card is Pear Pizzaz Card Stock and the background is a piece of paper from the Afternoon Picnic Designer Series Paper Pack. The two flags are Basic Gray and Coastal Cabana. For the main stamped image I used the Tea Party Stamp Set. I stamped the large image in Crushed Curry and Wisteria Wonder and cut them both out with the Ovals Collection Framelits Dies. The Wisteria one is then trimmed with my Paper Snips. The collection of teapot and cups is from the same set and I markered it with my Soft Suede Stampin’ Write Marker and then cut that out with my Paper Snips. Some Stampin’ Dimensionals hold them all to the card. The little tags are punched out with the “Vintage” Jewelry Tag Punch and the friends is from the “Vintage” Tiny Tags Stamp Set. To adhere them and the button I used some Multi-Purpose Glue. I really like the mix of all of the colors in the Afternoon Picnic DSP and I have to admit that markering and fussy cutting the teapot and cups was fun! Issues, I know! LOL!
