Control Freaks February Blog Tour

freakwelcome2013

Hello everyone and welcome to this month’s Control Freaks Blog Tour. This month we had an “anything goes” kind of theme. We could choose pretty much anything we wanted, fun! If you are following the tour you have arrived here from the talentedΒ Barb Mullikin’s blog. I have three cards and they are completely different from anything I’ve done before. I’ve used MDS and my e-cutter to make them. Let’s get started, shall we?!

My first card uses a bold, bright color combination. The card base is Crumb Cake. Next up is a layer of Pistachio Pudding and on top of that is a piece of Crisp Cantaloupe that I embossed with the Arrows Textured Impressions Embossing Folder. I used MDS and my e-cutter to cut out the mustaches from the the Many Mustaches Stamp Brush Set and the greeting from the Moments Ago Stamp Brush Set. Both cut out from Coastal Cabana, the mustaches are adhered with Stampin’ Dimensionals and the “awesome” with 2-Way Glue. A fun simple card and the bold color is definitely not for the feign of heart!

My second card is a little more subdued. The base of the card is Crumb Cake Card Stock and my background is a piece of Very Vanilla. Across the lower half of the card is some Retro Fresh This and That Designer Washi Tape. My feather is from the Feathered Woodcuts Kit-Digital Download and my banner is from the One Big Sale-A-Bration 2014 Digital Ensemble. The feather is cut out from Crumb Cake and the banner from Coastal Cabana. I really love the detail on the feather and the Washi Tape sets the whole card off nicely.

My last card hits very close to home! I used Baked Brown Sugar for my card base. On top of that is a piece of Coastal Cabana and my background is a piece of Soft Sky embossed with the Stylish Stripes Textured Impressions Embossing Folder. My “hello” greeting is from the Moments Ago Stamp Brush Set and is adhered to the card with 2-Way Glue. The New York state is from the Fifty Nifty Kit-Digital Download and is cut out of Baked Brown Sugar. I added a Basic Jewels Rhinestone to show you all where I fall on the map! A simple, but fun card and with the Fifty Nifty Kit you can cut out any state you want!

So there you have my first foray into the world of My Digital Studio and e-cutters! I still think I prefer the traditional way to make cards but it does add some more options to your crafting arsenal doesn’t it?! There was a little bit of a learning curve but once I figured it all out I had a lot of fun! I hope that you enjoyed my projects for this month’s Control Freaks Blog Tour. Now you are off to see what clever Debbie Henderson has in store for you! Enjoy the rest of the tour! πŸ™‚

  1. Justin – I don’t mean to sound ignorant or anything but what is an e-cutter? I love the cards but the feather and really neat “hi” are my favorite. By the way, it looks like your rhinestone on the third card is covering Hofstra University! LOL

    1. Grace, I have a Silhouette Portrait. It’s like a printer with a knife! Thank you! I love the feather and the banner! You are good! I don’t live very far from Hofstra! πŸ™‚

  2. I suffer BADLY from “over-do-it-itis” … I LOVE the clean simplicity of ALL of these card!! Those mustaches just make me smile!! And what is NOT to love about a “New York” state of mind card??? (and, of course, feathers???? LOVE ’em!)

    1. LOL! I love your work Wendy! Thank you! I had so much fun with the e-cutter! Thank you also for the inspiration to finally use it! πŸ™‚

  3. Woah, a triple-card post making this a quadruple-card Wednesday Justin!!! And aren’t you fancy with the MDS & your e-cutter!!! My, oh my LOL!!! The colors you chose look great on each card!!! My favorite is the NY card, that is SO awesome & you used one of my favorite TIEFs too!!! Have a great evening!!

    1. Yes Laurie! It’s a quadruple card day! I have had my e-cutter since last Christmas so I figured that it was time to use it! LOL! I am partial to the NY card too! Thanks for checking out the post, have an awesome evening! πŸ™‚

  4. Justin, my jaw hurts from dropping to the floor! Where do I begin? For your first card, I read it as “awesome 2-way glue”, haha. (Which it is, but that’s not what you said.) Your second card with the feathers absolutely knocked my socks off. Stunning beautiful in its simplicity. Wow. And I adore your New York/Long Island card! No doubt where that
    ‘Hello’ is from!

    1. Thank you very much Cindy! LOL! Yeah, I can see the confusion! It is awesome 2-Way Glue though! I am a little obsessed with feathers and I love that I can cut them out on demand! I thought the state card was just a fun! You can put the rhinestone wherever you live! Thanks again and have a great day! πŸ™‚

  5. Great cards, Justin….your color choices….plain and simple designs….really rocking!

    1. Thanks so much Barb! I have had mine for over a year and just finally got around to using it! I will definitely use it more now! LOL! πŸ™‚

  6. Hi Justin! Great cards! You have a way of making me buy things Justin! πŸ˜‰ I need to look into that e-cutter! Have a great day!

  7. Bravo on your first digital and e cutter adventure. I prefer the traditional way of card making as well. Not that there is anything wrong with digital, it can produce beautiful cards such as yours today. Call me old fashion. Love a good blog hop. Thanks Justin!

  8. Justin, Can you give us instructions on how to cut MDS images on the Silhouette? The cards today just blow me away. Brenda

    1. Hello Brenda! I watched some of Erika Cerwin’s videos to figure it out. She has some really good ones. Thank you! I’m so happy you liked the cards! πŸ™‚

  9. Great job with the 3 projects Justin. Love the little mustache’s those are so IN! I have a silhouette cameo and just starting to use it also. May have to bug you for help with importing MDS!
