Paper Players 183

Another weekend behind us and on to the start of a new week. I had a very nice weekend, they are always the best when I get to spend them with my peeps. Yesterday I ran some errands in the morning and then met my friend Heather for some lunch. We went to Taco Joe’s and I had a yummy chicken quesadilla. After lunch we ran some more errands, one of which was stopping at Stew Leonard’s, and then went back to Heather’s and had a glass of wine. It was called Juary Gil Jumilia Red and it was quite delicious. I came home and watched another movie (two in one weekend!) called Warm Bodies. It was a zombie movie with a different spin, it was pretty good. What were all of you up to this weekend?

Monday means that it’s time for this week’s Paper Players challenge. This week the clever LeAnne has asked us to make a clean and simple card with stars…

Paper Players #183

I found the inspiration for my card from one that I saw on Pinterest, speaking of Pinterest if you are a Demonstrator don’t forget to sign up for my webinar on Wednesday, February 26th at 6:00pm Mountain time! The card starts off with a base of Very Vanilla Card Stock. A piece of Coastal Cabana is up next, stamped with the Happy Day Stamp Set in Chocolate Chip and I used the Finishing Touches Edgelits Die along the bottom edge. There is that “Vintage” Young Vermillion again and he is stamped in Chocolate Chip. Along the bottom is one of the stamps from the Perfect Pennants Stamp Set that is stamped in Coastal Cabana. I used one of the Stampin’ Spritzers to spritz on some Coastal Cabana and wound some Linen Thread around the bottom before I adhered it to the card with Stampin’ Dimensionals. The three stars from the Merry Mini’s Punch Pack are punched out from Crumb Cake and a heart from Coastal Cabana with the Small Heart Punch are also adhered with Stampin’ Dimensionals. He needed a little sparkle so I replaced his branch with a piece of Champagne Glimmer Paper! I actually think that that little bird is my all time favorite stamp, he is so detailed! So there you have my card for this week’s Paper Players challenge from LeAnne. I hope that you enjoy the card and thank you for taking some time out of your day to visit with me, have a great Monday! 🙂

  1. How lovely. Like how you combined vintage with new. We must not forget to use the wonderful retired stamp sets. I don’t know about you, but I have a very hard time purging old sets from my collection. Just a thought…I am also a huge fan of Naturals White CS. Love the rustic and natural look and I think this card would go well with the Young Vermillion. I’m not taking anything away from your card, I love it!

    1. Thank you Lisa! I completely agree with you about not forgetting about our old favorites! I can’t let go of any of my stamp sets! I will need an entire room soon just for them alone! LOL! I too like Naturals White, but I find for detailed images the surface is a title too rough to get all of the detail from the stamp. Thanks for the thought! I hope that you have a great day! 🙂

  2. Hi Justin! I’m back! My hubby and I got away for Valentine’s Day! It was a nice and relaxing four days! I did miss you though! 😉 Love this card! It makes me long for Spring even that much more! Those little punches add a nice touch! I need to go back and catch up on what you did while I was gone! Have a great Monday…oh…we are in for 7 or 8 inches of snow today! Egads!

    1. Hello Kare!

I was wondering where you got to! I missed you too! I happy to hear that you had a nice Valentine’s weekend!
Thanks, I really do love that little bird! LOL! No more snow please! We are supposed to get 2-4 inches tomorrow night. Ugh! Anyways, enjoy your day! 🙂

  3. Hi Justin! This card is Beautiful!! I love birds and this one is outstanding. I wish it wasn’t ‘vintage’. I may have to check ebay.

  4. Great CAS card and perfect for the PP challenge, Justin! I love the young vermillion and the soft pallete you chose, plus a little splash of glitter. Thanks for playing 🙂

  5. The Young Vermillion is the real “star” of this card! Wonderful details in the stamped image and two tone colors allows the extra touches to pop. Love the shinny perch! I may have to follow Gerri’s lead and try to find him on eBay.

  6. This sweet bird should have not been retired ! Makes me think I had better go get that handsome Canadian Goose in The Wetlands just in case !! Cute card and thanks for the comment on the texture and finish affecting your stamped image . I like the Natural CS too but, don`t use it often …if you did for this I guess a separate banner or such for the sentiment would be good , Happy Monday !

    1. I agree completely Sonny! Yes, but Wetlands is quite popular so you should be good for at least one more catalog! I do use the Naturals from time to time. I like the spritz on the card stock, it gives a similar effect. Happy Monday to you too. 🙂

  7. Fab card Justin. I love this bird but failed to buy it. Dang. I too keep all my stamps but once in a while I grab a box and put in stamps that I never use. I suppose I should sell them or give them away but I know if I do, one of them will be perfect for a special card. So they sit in the basement waiting for that “boy I really could use a such and such stamp” moment. Hubs laughs at me and once told me I was more of a collector than a user. Obviously I had to straighten him out on that one.

This is a great card. I think tipping the center piece of card stock is what makes it really shine. I don’t know why I never think to do that! Great color combo and using those mini punches is the perfect touch. Great job yet again Justin. So glad to hear you had a great weekend.

    1. Thank you Grace! I think he is just the neatest! I’m sorry you didn’t get him. I feel the same way about my stamps. Every once in a while I reach for an oldie and am glad that I still have it! I am a collector too, if you saw all of the Designer Series Paper that I have! LOL!
I am starting to like the slightly off kilter look. I never think to do it either, I’ll have to start putting post it notes around my desk with “suggestions”! LOL! I hope that you have a nice Monday! 🙂

  8. Justin, This card is beautiful! I love the way you used the glimmer paper for the branch! The colors are perfect also. I don’t own the Young Vermillion set and every time I see it used, I kick myself for not getting it! Oh well, at least I get to enjoy seeing it on your card.
    Have a great Monday!
    Donna

    1. Thank you very much Donna! I do like a little sparkle! He was one of the first stamps that I bought and I’m glad that I did! I’m happy You enjoyed seeing the little guy! Have a lovely day! 🙂

  9. Oldies stamps are so good too! Let me know how to handle cleaning out my cabinets to make room for all my new ones! I can’t seem to let go of stamps from the 90’s to present! Grace, I understand your “collector” mentality. How many of us are not? (Tell your husband that I have over 1,500 SU stamp SETS. How many stamps is that? I used to know where everything in every catalog was so my demo would always ask me for page numbers! That’s obsession, no? SU has to go on hiatus for a year to let me catch up, but then I would miss the new catalogs! Enjoy your week! Nancy B

    1. I couldn’t agree more Nancy! Ha ha! I have no more room! If you could see all of the sets I have, not to mentions the embellishments and paper! Wait… 1500, you win! No, Stampin’ Up! off for a year would be bad! You have a great week too! -)

  10. This is so sweet, Justin! I love this little bird too…I think I need to dust him off myself! I love his little sparkly twig….and of course, the stars! Thanks for playing with my starry challenge this week!

  11. Wow Justin, this card is stunning!!! Your vintage vermilion takes center stage & rightly so!! I don’t have this set, but I imagine this sweet guy stamps up better with our cardstock on one of our foam piercing mats (one for piercing, one for stamping, right!?!!) I find this to be true for many of the animal-themed sets, like Horse Frontier and Zoo Review. Even the fish & lobster from By the Tide have crisper details when stamped this way!!! I have to remember to use my “tools if the trade” more often!!! 🙂 Glad you had a good weekend!!

    1. Thank you very much Laurie! Yes, he does deserve the spotlight! He has been in the drawer for far too long! I actually don’t use the mat to stamp, I do it the old fashioned way, right on the desk! LOL! I’ll have to give it a try now that you mentioned it. Enjoy the rest of your evening! 🙂
