Pals Paper Arts 193

I had a lovely day in Manhattan yesterday despite the cold. Those cross-town winds were quite bitter! I started the day off paying my friend Ella a visit. She lives on 5th Avenue and 79th Street. She has one of the most amazing views of Central Park. I took this picture out of her kitchen window…

Ella Window

You can see the buildings on the other side of the park and of course the yellow taxi cabs. I also went over to the West Side to see my friends Jon and Mary. When I was in the cab on the way back over to the East Side we went past Lincoln Center. I took this picture out of the window of the cab. It’s Avery Fisher hall where the New York Philharmonic performs…

Lincoln Center

There really is so much to see and do in Manhattan and I love showing you little snippets of my day! When I got home last night I remembered that I didn’t have a card to post so I used this week’s Pals Paper Arts sketch for inspiration…

PPA 193

Nice and simple which is just what I needed since I got home around 9:00! The base of my card is Coastal Cabana Card stock and tha background is a piece of Retro Fresh Designer Series Paper that I cut to 4 1/8 x 5 3/8 so there is just a thin border around the card. A strip of Baked Brown Sugar is embossed with the hearts from the Adorning Accents Textured Impressions Embossing Folders. The you is from the February Paper Pumpkin Kit and is backed with some Coastal Cabana that I punched out with the 1 1/4″ Circle Punch. Stampin’ Dimensionals hold them to the strip of Baked Brown Sugar. My love is from the “Vintage” Expressions Thinlits Dies and is cut out from Baked Brown Sugar and adhered to the DSP with 2-Way Glue. A very simple card that I actually think would make a nice masculine one! I hope that you enjoyed my pictures form Manhattan and my card for this week’s Pals Paper Arts sketch challenge. I appreciate you taking some time out of your day to spend with me and I hope that you have a wonderful Sunday! 🙂

  1. Hi Justin! LOVE your card!! I do hope they bring back some additional words in the thinlits. I think Happy or Baby would be a couple of good ones. 😉 Such a nice card! Great pics of your time spent in the city yesterday. Thanks for sharing those. What an awesome view Ella has out her kitchen window! Enjoy your Sunday!!

    1. Hello Karen!
Thank you! I hope they have some more words too, or at least an MDS file that I can cut out! Happy would be great! I’m happy you enjoyed the pictures! Yes, Ella has an amazing view doesn’t she?! Have a fun Sunday! 🙂

  2. Thanks for the Sunday morning travelogue – great pictures and descriptions. The card is really sweet and the color combos work wonderfully together.

  3. Love the clean look of this card! So glad I bought the Expressions thinlits as I have used them on cards and scrapbook pages. I am eagerly awaiting my shipment of Paper pumpkin, hope it’s the February one. Beautiful picture of Central Park from Ella’s window! Looks like NYC as room for more snow, ha, ha …. We still have 3 & 4 foot snow banks here in Maine! Have a great Sunday!

    1. Thank you Beth! I was a little surprised when they didn’t carry over! The February Paper Pumpkin is fun but wait until you see the March one! Ella does have a great view! No, we may have the room but we don’t have the patience for more snow! 3 and 4 feet is way too much thanks! Have a great Sunday too! 🙂

  4. Great card! I vote with the others that SU should bring back the words and introduce new ones. And I love the photos. Memories of a time long ago!

    1. Thank you Melanie! Yes, maybe they will! I wish I had more time yesterday to take more pictures. It was cold but nice and sunny! 🙂

  5. Whoa Justin – this is the kind of card you do when you don’t have much time? It would take me hours to come up with a design even remotely close to being as cool as this one! Must be nice to be so talented! Great job.

What a great view of Central Park Ella has. I hope she realizes how privileged she is to be able to look out on that every day! My oldest daughter has danced at the Helen Hayes Theater in Lincoln Center. The acoustics there are absolutely phenomenal! I would love to hear the philharmonic play there – that would have to be candy for the ears.

    1. LOL! Yes Grace, that was a quick card! Sketches always make it a little easier! You really are too kind! Ella has one of the best views I have see in Manhattan. I actually got to see one of the parades from there. WOW! That’s great that you daughter has danced there!! I need to go and see something there! 🙂

  6. Enjoyed the card, Justin! The colors are just perfect! The pictures are wonderful also, nice to see a glimpse of that marvelous city through your eyes. Enjoy your day today!

  7. Thank you for the photos and card! Lucky, lucky Ella!! I hope to be able to do the city again some day. My cousins live on the west side between Broadway and Riverside Drive not quite up to Columbia. Your card has no ink or stamping? How refreshing! We are getting freezing rain right now, snow to follow…oh, joy! Take care! Nancy B

    1. You’re welcome Nancy! Thank you for coming by to see them! Yes, Ella is very lucky! I was over that way yesterday, I was on 86th and East End Avenue. Nope, no stamping! I didn’t realize that until I wrote the post! Joy is not what I would use to describe snow! LOL! Have a good Sunday! 🙂

  8. Hi Justin, I think I’m most impressed with making this card so fast. Looks great. Where do you do your card-making? Like everyone said, love the NYC pics and your stories. Hope our L.I. weather warms up soon! 🙂

    1. Hello Nancy!
Thank you! I was thinking about it in the car on the way home. I make my cards in a tiny corner of my bedroom, my craft area. I can’t wait for spring!! Then there will be lots of NY pictures! 🙂

  9. This card is so fresh and crisp, Justin! Love how you just came home and “threw” it together. And thanx again for your pix- keep ’em coming cuz we love seeing them and we appreciate your generosity in sharing them B-)

    1. Thank you Georgie! It was thrown together in my head first! LOL! I love that you love seeing my pictures! I hope that you had a nice Sunday! 🙂

  10. Justin, what a fun card! Love the way you used the baked brown sugar. It’s becoming one of my favorites! And I agree – sure hope they come out with more “words”! Thank you for joining us this week at Pals Paper Arts!

    1. Thank you Peggy! Baked Brown Sugar is my new Crumb Cake! LOL! We definitely need more words! Have a great week!
