Retro Scallop Garden Thanks

Wow! Sunday already?! Time is just chugging along! LOL! I had a nice day yesterday, I got some projects finished in the morning and then headed into Manhattan with Anthony and Bill to see Harmony Sweepstakes at the Miller Theater at Columbia University. We had a great time and it was sold out! Andrew and his group Satellite Lane won Audience Favorite for the second year in a row! They also won for best choreography! Congratulations to them on two well deserved wins! We hit up the diner after and I had some pancakes, haven’t had those in a while! I did manage to snap two quick pictures, the first one is of the outside of the theater…

Miller Theater

And here is of one of the statues that stands outside a set of gates next to the theater. If you click on the picture and look he has six toes, I thought that was interesting!

Every so often when I’m working on a project I stop for a bit and make a just for fun card. I know, it’s odd that when you are working on craft projects that you would stop and make another one to take a break but that’s what I do! Today’s card is one of those.

The card uses a base of Whisper White Card Stock and I covered the entire front with a piece of Kaleidoscope Designer Series Paper. Two strips of Retro Fresh Designer Washi Tape go across the bottom. The tag is made using the Scallop Tag topper Punch. I trimmed the sides off to get a thinner tag and stamped the tag with one of the Paper Pumpkin Stamps in Gumball Green. The flower and leaves are from the Secret Garden Stamp Set and are both cut out with the Secret Garden Framelits. The leaves are stamped in Gumball Green and the Flower is heat embossed with White Stampin’ Emboss Powder on Daffodil Delight and sponged with some White Craft Ink. My greeting is from the Oh, Hello Stamp Set and is heat embossed in Tangerine Tango on a piece of Vellum Card Stock and adhered just under the flower. The tag has some White Bakers Twine on the top and Stampin’ Dimensionals adhere it to the card. I really am having fun with Vellum lately, it adds so much to a card. I also like the subtle background with the bold colors. I hope you enjoyed today’s just for fun card! I appreciate your taking some time to come and see what I’m up to and hope you have a lovely Sunday! 🙂

  1. Hi Justin! First off, congrats to Andrew and the rest of the group! Way to go! Sounds like they have a very bright future. LOVE your card! The layout is perfect and I love the tag topper punches! I really need to bring out my vellum and work with that more often. It looks really good with your embossing. Thanks for sharing the pictures also…that’s funny about his 6 toes! Enjoy your Sunday!

    1. Hi Karen!
Thank you, I will pass your congratulations along! So happy you like the card! I have been using vellum a lot lately! Once it’s on the desk it gets used! I thought his six toes were weird too! Have a great day! 🙂

  2. Please tell Andrew congratulations! I love how you embossed on the vellum. I just tried using vellum the other day and will have to put embossing on it on my to do list!

    1. I definitely will Cathi! I am loving the vellum lately! It really does look neat heat embossed! Have a great Sunday! 🙂

  3. Justin,
Love this card!!! The Kaleidoscope dsp makes a perfect backdrop for the embossed flower and the tango washi tape. It is just beautiful. I LOVE your designs!!
Congratulations to Andrew and the Satellite Lane group!!

  4. Justin,
I love the pop of colors off of the black and white dsp. It’s very striking. Very lovely just for fun card!
Congratulations to Andrew and the group! I bet they are so thrilled with all of their recent achievements. .
Love the pic of the statue and his 6 toes! Would love to know the story behind that!
Enjoy the rest of your Sunday!
    Donna

    1. Donna,
Thank you! Kind of a fun Spring card! I will let Andrew know! Yes, they are quite happy! I tried to find the statue on Google but I couldn’t. His six toes are kind of odd! Have a great Sunday! 🙂

  5. Love this card. I have had some problems embossing on vellum in the past but you did it perfectly. That particular piece of DSP is so versatile. I’ve seen it used for everything from wedding invitations to baby showers. Just gorgeous. Great job Justin and the piece of baker’s twine is the absolute perfect finishing touch.

So glad to hear Andrews group did so well. I always think winning the audience favorite is the most important category in which to hit a home run. Heck, the audience is the future purchasers of CD’s and having a fan base is what makes stars. Congratulations to every member of Satellite Lane, especially Andrew!

    1. Thank you Grace! I find that if you go nice and slow the vellum doesn’t curl as much. I do love the Kaleidoscope, there are some really fun patterns in there! I agree with you about winning audience favorite, that would mean much more to me than something from the judges. I’ll tell Andrew! Enjoy the rest of your Sunday! 🙂

  6. *Love* your “just for fun” card, Justin! Your design elements made for a very striking design that really makes me feel like Spring is on the rise! I like the contrast of the black triangles against the white background and all the layers, starting with the washi tape, the tag, and the vellum with sentiment. Great card!

Congrats to Andrew! And thanks for the pix. LOVE them!

    1. Thank you El! It’s nice to make a card with no sketch or colors every once in while. I really do stop and make a different card when I am making swaps! Something is wrong with me! LOL!
Andrew and Satellite Lane were great! I thought pictures were interesting, especially the gentleman’s toes! LOL! 🙂

  7. Congratulations to Satellite Lane and Andrew! Two years in a row! Audience favorites…what more could you ask for? Wow! Love the pictures too! I am really liking the vellum and embossing powders on your card. You even used some washi tape and it all goes so well together. Waiting now for another Andrew card…bring Andrew for steaks too and I won’t be surprised when you get here. Just call and I will pick you all up from the airport. Love ya,
    Nancy B

    1. Yes! Quite amazing Nancy! They were fantastic! I think audience favorite says more than any judge could ever! The pictures were just interesting! Glad you enjoyed the card! I have asked him and he said he will, we’ll see. I’ll let him know he is welcome for steaks too! You are one awesome lady my friend! Love ya too! XO

  8. Wow! Sounds like your friend’s group did a great job last night! How fun that you were able to be there and enjoy it with them! As usual, loved the pictures and the ‘sneak peek’ at the theater… it’s so nice to almost ‘be there’ 🙂 Your card was lovely as well. More inspiration for me in a color scheme I would not have imagined myself. So nice 🙂 Hope your Sunday was wonderful, and you’ve got a great week ahead!

    1. Yes they did Kay! It was lots of! I like for you ufo come along on my little adventures! Glad you like the card! I had some fun with that one! My sunday was good and I hope that your’s was too! 🙂
