Control Freaks April Blog Tour

freakwelcome2013

It’s that time again! Welcome to this month’s Control Freaks Blog Tour! This month our theme is Masculine/Gender Neutral. If you are following the tour you have arrived here from the talented Barb Mulikin’s blog, great projects right?! This month I have two cards and one fun project inspired by a video that I saw on YouTube for a box with a little twist!

My first card is a birthday card. For the base I used a piece of Soft Suede Card Stock. My background is a piece of Sahara Sand that I heat embossed with Gold Stampin’ Emboss Powder using the World Map Background Stamp. To color in the land and sea I used my Sponge Daubers and Island Indigo and Gumball Green Ink. Before adhering it to the card I backed it with a piece of Brushed Gold Card Stock. All of the stamped images are from the Postage Collection Host(ess) Stamp Set and are stamped in Island Indigo, Gumball Green and Soft Suede. They are punched out with the Postage Stamp Punch and adhered to the card with Stampin’ Dimensionals. I love the way the background came out with the gold heat embossing and the sponged ink. I will definitely be doing that again!

For my second card I did a simple nautical themed one. The base is Crumb Cake Card Stock. I stamped the World Map Background Stamp in Basic Black on a piece of white cotton fabric and then cut it out with the Banners Framelits Dies. It’s adhered to the card with Sticky Strip. My ship is from The Open Sea Stamp Set and is also stamped in Basic Black on Soft Sky and cut out with the Deco Labels Collection Framelits. I slipped a piece of So Saffron behind it that I flagged on both ends before adhering it to the card with Stampin’ Dimensionals. The greeting is from the Loving Thoughts Stamp Set. I really do enjoy using different things like fabric on a card, it adds so much with not much effort at all.

My final project is a fun box that has a little surprise inside. The box itself is created with a piece of Crumb Cake Card Stock and my Envelope Punch Board. Like I said I watched a video on YouTube to get the dimensions. There is a piece of Natural 5/8″ Chevron Ribbon that acts as a pull for the box. The sleeve is made from a piece of Early Espresso Core’dinations with a piece of Soho Subway Designer Series Paper on top. The greeting is from the Label Love Stamp Set and is stamped in Island Indigo and punched out with the Artisan Label Punch. I cut out a piece of Summer Starfruit with the Deco Labels Collection Framelits and embossed it with the Alphabet Press Textured Impressions Embossing Folder. Behind it is a piece of 1 1/4″ Burlap Ribbon that is flagged on the bottom. Sticky Strip and Stampin’ Dimensionals hold all of the pieces in place. Inside the box, with one on the front, are tickets from the You’re Amazing Stamp Set that are stamped in Island Indigo, Summer Starfruit and Crisp Cantaloupe. I used the Ticket Duo Builder Punch to punch them out and they are randomly adhered to each other and to the props with SNAIL. Sort of a neat box isn’t it with plenty of room for a gift card or a little special present.

Feather Grid Woodcut

Yesterday was supposed to be the last chilly day for a while, today we are supposed to get into the lower 60s! Umm… it is spring right?! Work was pretty good today, I did get out a whole hour early! I stopped home and started a project and then Anthony and Bill came and picked me up to take me to dinner. We did end up going to Friday’s and had a different dessert, Salted Caramel Cake. It was quite delicious, not as sweet as the Tennessee Whiskey Cake but just as good. Anytime something comes with ice cream it has to be good right?! After dinner I stopped home and then went over to see Brian & Kim for a while. I finished off the evening by making a card, the best way to end the day!

My card for today is the card that I made last night. When I used my E-Cutter to cut out the Feathered Woodcuts I cut a bunch of them out so I have them ready to use on a project. The base of today’s card is Sahara Sand Card Stock. My background is a piece of Bermuda Bay and I wrapped a piece of Watercolor Wonder Designer Washi Tape around the lower half and stamped the greeting from the A Dozen Thoughts Stamp Set in Basic Black before adhering it to the base with Stampin’ Dimensionals. I stamped the feather with Versa-Mark and heat embossed it with Gold Stampin’ Emboss Powder. A piece of Linen Thread holds a Brights Designer Button to the feather and some more Stampin’ Dimensionals adhere it to the card. Not overly complicated but I love the gold embossing on the feather and the button is the perfect finishing touch! I hope that you enjoyed my card for today and that you have a fun Saturday. Thanks so much for checking in! 🙂

Pals Paper Arts 200

I know I say it every week, but boy am I happy that it’s Friday! There are rumors that we may get out of work early today. Let’s hope that holds true! It was cold and windy here again yesterday, I’d like to know where spring has gone. Tonight I’m supposed to go out to dinner with Anthony and Bill, we’ll probably do Friday’s because I have about 386 points on my Stripes card, which I think equates to all of us eating for free. LOL! I hope you enjoyed yesterday’s snippet of Satellite Lane. As soon as they get the edited video back from the videographer, I will post the link to that. What kind of plans do you all have to get your weekend started? Today’s post is a special one. It is the 200th Pals Paper Arts challenge! Woo-hoo! This week, the Pals have given us a sketch with a twist…

I got my April Paper Pumpkin Kit in the mail yesterday which I’m sure you have all seen since Stampin’ Up! posted the early video of it. That’s what I used for my greeting on today’s card. The base of the card is Real Red Card Stock and my two panels are both pieces of paper from the Fresh Prints Designer Series Paper Stack and both of them are backed with Whisper White. The top panel is adhered with Stampin’ Dimensionals and the bottom panel is adhered with SNAIL. Like I said, my greeting comes from this month’s Paper Pumpkin and is heat embossed in White Stampin’ Emboss Powder. I cut it out with the Circles Collection Framelits and that too is adhered to the panel with Stampin’ Dimensionals. It needed a little something more, so I used the Itty Bitty Shapes Punch Pack and some Whisper White to punch out some flowers and gave them a little extra pop by sticking a rhinestone in the center of each one. I used the Stampin’ Pierce Mat and the Paper-Piercing Tool to shape the flowers and give them a nice three-dimensional look. As you can see, I’ve accepted both the sketch and the monochromatic challenge, which by the way, was the twist! I’ve been on a bit of a heat embossing kick lately, I’m just really liking the way it looks. The Photopolymer Stamps make a nice, crisp image, too. I hope you enjoyed my card for this week’s special 200th Pals Paper Arts challenge. Your visit, as always, is much appreciated! I hope your weekend gets off to a fantastic start to your weekend! 🙂

Freshly Made Sketches 132

Happy Thursday to you! Only one day away from my favorite day of the week! Today was a busy day at work, but a good one, I actually got some things accomplished which is always good. I left work a little early today and met Andrew to take the train into Manhattan. On our walk up I passed the Giant Needle and Button in the Garment District and it reminded me of my friend LeAnne so I took a picture of it.

Giant Needle and Button

We met up with my friend Kim for some dinner, we went to Zuni. The burgers were pretty good, however, I would stay away from the garlic mashed potatoes. LOL! Afterwards we headed over to Times Square and Andrew and Satellite Lane performed some songs in front of Military Island. The reason they were in the city was to sing for a wedding proposal. After some impromptu singing, the couple showed up and at 8:45 a picture came on the SONY Jumbo-Tron in Times Square where the man asked for his girlfriend’s hand in marriage. Satellite Lane gathered around and performed “A Thousand Years” by Christina Perri. A large crowd gathered and all cheered for the happy, newly engaged couple! I have to say, it was quite an experience to watch it happen in person. Below you can see a clip of them performing one of the songs they did before the proposal, Andy Grammer’s “Keep Your Head Up”.

Satellite Lane Times Square 4-2014

Yes, it was a little chilly last night but it pretty cool, huh?! If you’d like to keep up with all of Satellite Lane’s happenings, you can visit their website HERE.

I got home a little late last night as you can imagine, but decided to do my card for this week’s Freshly Made Sketches challenge…

Freshly Made Sketches #132

It was a great sketch because it was perfect for a quick card. The card base is Pool Party Card Stock and the background is a piece of Kaleidoscope Designer Series Paper. I rounded the corners on the top of the background and card with the 1″ Circle Punch. My image and greeting are both from the Peachy Keen Stamp Set. The heart is stamped in Pool Party and cut out with my Paper Snips. For the greeting I heat embossed the “Hello Friend” on a piece of Pool Party in Black Stampin’ Emboss Powder. Both elements are adhered to the card with Stampin’ Dimensionals. Like I said, a nice simple card! Since Pool Party is a light color, the card almost has a monochromatic look to it, but because of the stripes, the heart and sentiment really jump off the face of the card. Let me know what you think of my card for this week’s Freshly Made Sketches challenge. Thanks very much for stopping by today. I hope you enjoyed the video as well and that you have a very good Thursday! 🙂

Rainy and windy, that was the best way to describe yesterday. It rained all day, again better than snow. Some of you told me that you had snow yesterday, doesn’t Winter know that it has clearly overstayed it’s welcome?! This past weekend was clearly a tease because it’s 30 degrees here this morning! On a positive note it is Wednesday and that is always better than Monday! Tonight I’m off to Manhattan for a bit with Andrew. We are going to meet my friend Kim and have some dinner and then Andrew has a performance with Satellite Lane. They are going to perform a proposal in Times Square, that should be fun!

Stampin’ Up! had a fun announcement yesterday! They have partnered with Becky Higgins, the creator of the popular Project Life scrapbooking system.

Today I’m over on the Paper Craft Crew with the rest of the design team for this week’s sketch…

I saw on the Stampin’ Up! Customer Site the other day that that had a video on a watercolor technique  so I tried it on my card today. The base of the card is Smoky Slate Card Stock. My background is a piece Daffodil Delight on top and a piece of Watercolor Wonder Designer Series Paper on the bottom. I used a piece of Daffodil Delight 1/4″ Stitched Grosgrain Ribbon to hide the seam. Adhered to the ribbon is a piece of Crushed Curry that I cut out with the Bitty Banners Framelits. The main panel is a piece of Watercolor Paper. I used the Fine Feathers Stamp Set and a Stampin’ Spritzer with water. I inked the stamp with Tangerine Tango, Island Indigo and Gumball Green and I spritzed it with water before I stamped it. It does really give a nice watercolor effect to the stamped images. Across the bottom is a strip of Gumball Green that I cut out with the Tasteful Trim Bigz XL Die and adhered it to the watercolor paper. It’s backed with a piece of Island Indigo  and adhered to the card with Stampin’ Dimensionals. Finally the bird is from the Nature’s Hello Host(ess) Stamp Set and is stamped in Smoky Slate. I used the Backyard Basics Framelits to cut him out and another Stampin’ Dimensionals holds him in place. I really do like that watercolor technique and will use it again, it was quick and easy. I hope that you enjoyed my card for this week’s Paper Craft Crew sketch challenge. Now take a quick click over to the blog to see what the other designers have for inspiration and let’s see what you come up with. I hope you all have a great Wednesday, I thank you very much for coming by! 🙂

Yup, that was definitely a Monday! We had a Forum at work that started at 10:00 and went until 12:00. The rest of the day was crazy busy, a Monday for sure! After work I came home and had a bunch of errands to run. More of that Monday. When I finished those I decided that I needed a little card therapy so I made my one for today’s post. I hope that your Monday was better than mine!

Before we get to today’s post here are the weekly deals from Stampin’ Up!

SU! Weekly Deals 1 4-15-2014

SU! Weekly Deals 2 4-15-2014

Speaking of my card for today’s post, it’s for this week’s Mojo Monday sketch from Julee Tilman…

Mojo341

A nice different layout wouldn’t you say?! I started my card off with a base of Pacific Point Card Stock and used some of the High Tide Designer Series Paper for the background and the strip down the left side as well as the panel in the middle. Behind the strip on the left is a piece of Calypso Coral that I cut with the Finishing Touches Edgelits. Next up, two strips of Pacific Point that I flagged come across from the left. The panel is backed with a piece of Smoky Slate and adhered with Stampin’ Dimensionals. Another piece of flagged Pacific Point goes on the left of that. My greeting is from one of the Stamp Sets from the upcoming 2014-2015 Annual Catalog called So Very Happy. I stamped it in Pacific Point and cut it out with my Paper Snips. A piece of Calypso Coral is adhered behind it and also fussy cut. I really love the patterns in the High Tide DSP, the ones I used work great with non-nautical themes too and the greeting is pretty cool with it’s shield shape. And there is my “therapy” card for this week’s Mojo Monday sketch challenge. I hope you enjoyed it and I thank you for your visit, have a great day! 🙂

Paper Players 191

Another beautiful day here in New York! I started the day off by driving into Manhattan and much to my surprise, I made it into the city in 28 minutes. Don’t tell anyone! LOL! Had some breakfast with Kim, went to see a friend in Midtown, managed to stop on the way back up and take some pictures that you will see below. I went back to Kim’s and she decided she’d take the ride back out to Long Island with me. We went for a walk on the Bethpage bike trail, took my parents to the airport and had some dinner at Friday’s. I dropped Kim off at the train station and Andrew came by to pick up two cards that I made for his mom which I will post later this week. Now on to the pictures…

This is the Roosevelt Island Tram. It runs parallel to the 59th Street Bridge to the midway point where it drops down to Roosevelt Island. At one time, this was the only way to get to Roosevelt Island via public transportation. They have since added a subway stop on the F-line. I still think this is a pretty neat way to get to the island, and one day I will take it there!

Now on to today’s card which is for this week’s Paper Players challenge and Ann has given us this interesting color challenge…

Paper Players #191

My card base is a piece of Coastal Cabana Card Stock and as a background, I used the Hexagon Hive Thinlit Die which I cut out of a piece of Calypso Coral. On top of that is my tag which is cut from Crumb Cake using the Angled Tag Topper Punch. My greeting is stamped on the tag in Always Artichoke. The stamp comes from the Simply Sketched Host(ess) Stamp Set. On the left of the tag I stamped the leaves from the Secret Garden Stamp Set in Always Artichoke and cut them out with the Secret Garden Framelits. On top of that are two flowers which I stamped in Calypso Coral from the Flower Shop Stamp Set. They are punched out with the Pansy Punch. I like the look of the card but I felt it was too empty so I added another flower and leaf at the bottom to fill it out some more. As an added embellishment, I tied some Linen Thread through the tag to give it the finishing touch. I know I’ve used the flowers a lot lately and I promise I will move on to something else! LOL! I hope you like what I did with the bold color combination from the Paper Players this week. Thanks for taking some time out of your Monday to see what I was up to yesterday. Here’s to a good Monday for all of us!

Pals Paper Arts 199

Well that was a very nice Saturday! The weather was absolutely beautiful. Nice and sunny and it was in the upper 60’s. I went for a haircut in the morning and the top was down in the car all day. After my haircut I went over to Kim’s and Heather, the munchkins and I went to the mall. We got some lunch and then wandered around for a bit. Heather was looking for a dress and found one in Express. We went back to Kim’s and then Heather and I ran to Bed, Bath & Beyond and the liquor store. We got back to the house and just relaxed and played with the kiddies. What a lovely way to spend a Saturday, with my peeps! I hope that you had good weather and an enjoyable day where you are! I’m off to Manhattan for a bit this morning and then taking my parents to the airport. My friend Kim from the city is going to come back with me and come with me to take my parents to the airport. Looks to be a fun day!

Today’s card is for this week’s Pals Paper Arts and we have a color challenge this week…

PPA 199

I got home around 10:00 last night and I had a few cards to make. I needed a nice quick card so I CASE’d this one from the Annual Catalog. The base of the card is So Saffron Card Stock. I used some Sticky Strip to Adhere a piece of Calypso Coral 3/4″Chevron Ribbon down the right side. I flagged the ends with my Paper Snips before I Adhered it. A piece of Crumb Cake is embossed with the Scallops Textured Impressions Embossing Folder and I rounded the corners with the 3/16″ Corner Rounder before I adhered it to the card with Stampin’ Dimensionals. My greeting is from the Simply Celebrate Stamp Set and is stamped in Pear Pizzaz and punched out with the 2 1/2″ Circle Punch. I cut out some Pear Pizzaz with the Little Leaves Sizzlit and stamped one of the images from the Flower Shop Stamp Set in Calypso Coral on Calypso Coral and punched it out with the Pansy Punch. In the middle is a piece of So Saffron that I punched out with the Itty Bitty Shapes Punch Pack. I used a Mini Glue Dot to adhere it to the flower and there is a Basic Jewel Pearl in the middle. Sometimes you just need a little inspiration to speed you along! I hope that you enjoyed my card for this week’s Pals Paper Arts color challenge. I always enjoy having you stop by and see what I’ve been up to and love to hear about what you have been doing too! I hope you all have an amazing Sunday! 🙂

Freshly Made Sketches 131

The weather here yesterday was the best we have had in months! It was in the high 60’s and yes, I got to drive home from work with the top down and the music up nice and loud! Not the best day at work, it’s always busy but sometimes things can make it busier. The copier has broken so many times the technician had to stay and keep fixing it every 15 minutes yesterday. Time for a new one I think. After work I went over to Heather’s and we ran to Target and then went back and hung out at her house. We had some wine and cheese and listened to music. We danced around like fools and laughed. A great way to end a Friday! I like to tell you when I find fun things as you know and I downloaded this fun new App called PopAGraph a little while ago and finally played with it last night. You can take elements and make them color and do all kinds of neat things to the picture. In honor of Andrew and Satellite Lane being at BOSS this weekend I did this one…

Andrew SL PictGraph

Pretty neat huh?! I did another one of 34th Street and highlighted a taxi. If you follow me on Instagram you can see it there!

Now on to today’s post which is for this week’s Freshly Made Sketches. This week Cindy H. has given us this fun one…

Freshly Made Sketches #131

I made two cards for this. The first one I made I didn’t like at all the next day so I made the one that I’m posting today. The base of the card is Smoky Slate Card Stock and the background and the strip across the bottom are pieces of Watercolor Wonder Designer Series Paper. I heat embossed the flower image and greeting from the Happy Watercolor Stamp Set in White Stampin’ Emboss Powder on Wisteria Wonder. The flowers are colored in with the White Stampin’ Chalk Marker. I added some Melon Mambo and colored the stems in with my Gumball Green Stampin’ Write Markers. I have had the Chalk Marker for a while but this is the first time I’ve used it. I love the nice soft look it gives when used to color in the flowers and that Watercolor Wonder DSP is just so neat! Thanks for taking some time out of your day to come and see what I’ve been up to. I hope that you enjoyed my card for his week’s Freshly Made Sketches challenge. Have a simply wonderful Saturday! 🙂

Fab Friday 39

Ahh… I love it when I get up in the morning and realize that it’s Friday, it makes whole day instantly better! We are supposed to get some rain today but it should be in the 60’s so I’m fine with that. Yesterday was an average day, not too busy and after work was relaxing. Saw Andrew for a bit, watched some TV, a nice relaxing evening. Not a bad way to prepare for Friday! This weekend should be easy too. Haircut on Saturday, Manhattan on Sunday morning and taking the parents to the airport on Sunday evening. What are all of you up to this weekend?

Today is a great Friday also because it’s Fab Friday! And this time around we have a simple sketch for you…

Fab Fri 39 Sketch 4-11-2014

After yesterday’s nice, bold card, I decided a subtle one was in order for today. I would even go as far as to say it’s monochromatic. My card base is a piece of Smoky Slate Core’dinations Card Stock. I always forget to use it, but I really like the linen look of the paper when you don’t do anything to it. In the bottom right corner, I stamped my greeting in Basic Black which came from the Regarding Dahlias Stamp Set.  Next up is a small piece of Modern Medley Designer Series Paper and on top of that to the right is a piece of Brushed Silver Card Stock. My main image is also from the Regarding Dahlias Stamp Set which I stamped in Basic Black and cut out with my Paper Snips. Some Stampin’ Dimensionals adhere it to the card. I really like the modern, dimensional look of the Dahlia stamp. The lines give it a lot of perspective and it’s a very nice addition to any card and the size is great because it really grabs your attention. I also need to remember to use the Core’dinations Card Stock more often because I really do like the textured look that it has. A Fab Friday is always a good Friday! I hope you enjoyed my simple card for this week’s sketch. As always, your visit is greatly appreciated and I hope your day goes by quickly and your weekend gets off to a great start! 🙂
