So Very Happy Owl

Hello my friends! I am very happy to report that the move went extremely well! Fred showed up at 8:00 and Andrew at 8:20, with Starbucks!! We got right to work and about 80% of my stuff is at the new place. Fred had to leave at 3:30 and Andrew was going to leave at 5:30, he had a BBQ to go to. He said that he didn’t want to leave me here to set up by myself and he stayed until 8:30. I always say how awesome he is and I love it when he proves me right! I couldn’t have done any of this without him and Fred! I’m so incredibly lucky to have the amazing friends that I have and am happy to sing their praises! Andrew will be back over later to help finish up and I’m going to see what I can get accomplished in the new craft space this morning! Speaking of the new craft space since it’s mostly set up I thought I would share a picture of it…

Craft Space Hahn

You can see that it’s a cozy space in a walk in closet of the living room. You can also see the color of the living room, and nice almost Coastal Cabana! I wanted something bright and cheery and I think I got it. Yes the shelves are filled with Stamp Sets, when I say that I have an addiction I don’t tell lies! LOL! I’m looking forward to getting in there and making something! The fireworks were going off again last night and little Winston was scared but he stayed still long enough for a little picture too…

Now on to today’s card which I actually made a while ago. It was a just for fun card because I wanted to use the Owl Builder Punch! I haven’t used it ages to make an actual owl! The card begins with a base of Real Red Card Stock and the background is a piece of Whisper White that I stamped with the Dictionary Background Stamp in Bermuda Bay. Next up is a piece of “Vintage” Kaleidoscope Designer Series Paper. The final layer is a piece of Whisper White that I drew a notebook page on with my Pool Party and Real Red Stampin’ Write Markers. All of the corners are rounded with the “Vintage” 3/16″ Corner Rounder. The owl is punched out with the Owl Builder Punch, his body is Smoky Slate, his eyes are Whisper White, Pool Party and Basic Black and his vest is another piece of Kaleidoscope DSP. The greeting is from the So Very Happy Stamp Set and is stamped in Memento Tuxedo Black Ink and cut out with the Project Life Cards & Labels Framelits. A piece of Pool Party is flagged and adhered behind it. The Owl and the greeting are mounted to the card with Stampin’ Dimensionals. A happy birthday card that uses some of my favorite Designer Series Paper ever, Kaleidoscope! I hope that you enjoyed the pictures and the card for today. Thanks so much for sharing in my day and I hope that you have a great Sunday! 🙂

  1. Hi Justin, Very cheery card. I like the colors and the DSP belly. The owl punch is on my wish list. (I finally got the bird punch.) Your new craft space is very organized and well stocked! Thanks for your pictures. 🙂

    1. Hello Nancy!
I have had the Owl Punch forever and I rarely use him to make an owl! The Bird Punch is a fun one too! My craft space if definitely well stocked, too well maybe! Enjoy your Sunday! 🙂

  2. Good Morning Justin:

Great card today and I never would have known you made the notebook page with markers! I thought it was from one of those small pocket notebooks you get at Staples. That owl always makes me smile with those great big eyes. I love the way you made it look like a little girl owl with a polka dot dress on!

So, only 20% left to move eh? Hopefully it’s all boxes that you can stick in the car and not have to require a truck again. I cannot believe that your craft area is all up and organized and ready to go. You are fast! It took me forever to set up my craft room and right now it’s in terrible need of a good purging but it’s so overwhelming that I keep managing to sidetrack myself out of buckling down and getting started. Maybe you should take a trip to Maine and bully me into starting! LOL Question – do you line up your stamp sets alphabetically or by theme?

Hopefully soon you will be 100% moved and organized and ready to start leading a more “normal” life. Winston is adorable…………..I didn’t know you had a dog.

    1. Good morning Grace!
Thank you! I always think that I should pick up one of those notebooks and I always forget! The owl is cute, but I always use the punch for “parts” and the not the owl! Yes, I guess is does look like a polkadot dress!
Yup, only about 20%, not too bad! I was lucky and used my dad’s truck! It was quite a few trips but I’m only a mile for the old place so not too bad! I needed the craft space to be done first! We won’t talk about the rest of the apartment! LOL! I don’t think any of us want to deal with purging and organizing! It’s takes away from our creative time! I need to organize my stamps and when I do it will be by theme. I tend to think of them that way more than by Stamp Set name. Things are moving along and it will be a distant memory before you know it! Yes, winston is an old mane but still spunky and young at heart. He’s a trooper too about moving, he just came in sniffed around and laid down! Have a great Sunday my friend! 🙂

  3. This is adorable, Justin! Love that cute little owl and also love the shape of the die cut for the sentiment. Congrats on your 80% done move, and keep poor little Winnie close!

    1. Thank you Sandy! I know the owl is a favorite of yours! Winston is adjusting well and will be better once the 4th is over! 🙂

  4. Justin why is it we move and forget the rest of the house and set our most important priority up, aka our haven .. our “cave” .. Now get in there and finish my swaps.. erm I mean your swaps 😉

Its funny I was just thinking had I ever seen you use the owl punch and then BAM here’s this cute little dude.. erm or is it a dudette?

Oh there IS a God!! I am so glad you’re an addict like me.. Lord if you saw all my stamps hehehe ..
Friends are important fo sho!! Kudos to Andrew and tell him I like him already.. oh yeah Fred too 😀
and what a face!! Lubs it! a cute little Winston face 😀 😀

    Have a great Sunday !!!!!!!

    1. I think that our haven, cave, solace is the most important part. If we need to take a break we need that creative space right?! LOL! I have so much to do before convention I don’t know how it’s going to happen!
I have used the owl punch a lot, just not the owl part! LOL! I think that my owl is gender neutral, he/she can be whatever you want!
I’m so glad to hear that I am not alone in my addiction! I will be sure and let Andrew and Fred know! Andrew reads the comments so he will see this! Winston is a cutie, thanks!
I had a productive Sunday and hope that yours was good! 🙂

  5. Congrats on your new place. I can hardly believe you had time to post! Your card is sooooo cute. Love it. And hugs to Winston – poor guy!

    1. Thank you Lisa! Really, doing my post and hearing from all of you is a very important part of my day! Glad you like the card and I gave Winston a little extra love from you this morning! 🙂

  6. Hi Justin,
Such a busy man! I bet you’ll be so happy when you are 100% moved in. Your craft room is great and so organized. Lots of great creations will be coming out of there.

Winston is so stinkin’ cute! I have 2 dogs and they are afraid of fireworks and lightning too. They weren’t always, but we had a really bad storm a couple of months ago and ever since they freak out during storms.

Love your card! I haven’t used the owl punch in ages either. It’s so nice to see him again. As always, you put all the elements together beautifully. That dictionary stamp is going on my next order.

Good luck with the last of your move!

    1. Hello Gerri!
Yes, too busy, I need to take a break soon! I am burring the candle at both ends and it’s almost done! LOL! I will be ecstatic when everything is finished! But, Rome wasn’t built in a day and I need to remember that! I do like the new space, everything is right there!
Thanks! Winston is a good dog, except that he likes to be under my feet all the time! He has always been afraid of fireworks and thunder. He has been hanging out in the craft space lately. I guess he feels safe and happy in there just like me! I love that Dictionary stamp! The owl is great and I was glad to use the whole punch this time! Thank you!! Have a great day! 🙂

  7. Really cute card….love the little owl, he’s so versatile! Congrats on the major success on the move! Kudos to your buds…..and give poor Winston a bone!

    1. Thank you very much Melanie! The move is going well and it will all get done, maybe not as fast as I would like it, but nothing is ever fast enough of me! LOL! My friends are awesome and Winston had a few extra bones this weekend! 🙂

  8. Hi there Justin! Wow! Can’t believe your stamp room is so put together! Happy you have a designated space for that. Fun! It’s wonderful to have great friends in Fred and Andrew! I’m impressed that Andrew got there when he did with the coffee! 😉 Your card is soooo cute…love it! I love that you made your own notebook paper…it looks like the real thing. I’m a dog lover so I was glad to see a pic of Winston too. Poor thing…the fireworks are hard on them, aren’t they? Hope you have another productive day today…I know you will. Thanks for the pictures, love seeing them! Have a great day!!

    1. Hey Karen!
The stamp room needed to be first! It’s my sanity so often! Andrew and Fred are great! I had faith that Andrew would be there and the coffee was a nice bonus! Glad you enjoyed my card too! I really like the look of the notebook paper but I guess I could save some time and just use a sheet of traditional! LOL! Winston is terrified of the fireworks, he shakes so bad. I feel bad but there is nothing you can do. I did have a productive day and I feel like it’s getting there. I hope you had a good Sunday too! 🙂

  9. I love that owl’s big blue eyes–and I love your stamp space–EVERYthing is at your finger tips! Don’t you wish the wall space in front of your chair was a window? Yes, what a blessing friends are–Andrew had me at Starbucks! Well done, you!

    1. Thank you Annie! Yes, everything is definitely almost within arms reach! Some would say cramped I say cozy! LOL! I do wish the wall was a window, I just need to do something with it to make it a little less panel like, in time. I have the most amazing friends and I’m grateful for that everyday! 🙂

  10. Thank you Fred and Andrew! What great friends you are!! Love the owl on this card…my first impression was that he was a boy owl; I hadn’t thought girl.
I’m so ashamed that my 14 x 16 stamping room is so cluttered and not cleaned up yet after two years of pussy-footing around the organizing part of it. It’s almost ready though. I can’t believe how much you accomplish in a walk-in closet! Oh my! It must be the New Yorker in you and the claustrophobic in me.
Winston, you are a doll! How is it we never saw him before?
Good luck on the rest of the move and getting everything put away. Have a great week! (Only four days of work!) Nancy B

    1. Thanks to Andrew and Fred indeed, I couldn’t have one it without them! They are awesome! The owl is up for interpretation, he/she could be either! I would love to have a stamp room that large!! You are lucky! When you are ready you will do great things, and feel a lot better when it’s finished! LOL! Sometimes you just have to work with what you have! I have a knack for fitting things in places, must have been all of the Lego I played with as a child! I think I have posted a picture of Winston, but it was a while ago. Thanks for the reminder of the 4 day week, that just made my day a lot better! Enjoy you week too! 🙂

  11. Thanks for sharing a look at your new stamp studio! May the creative gods be with you.

  12. Congratulations on your new place! Love your stamping area and the color of your living room! I LOVE anything “beachy” looking!! My bathroom is bright green and white and flip flops and beach things all over, living room is blue and yellow and looks like a cottage!
    I like your card too!!

    1. Thanks MaryJo! I too was really feeling the be achy theme! I am very into the coastal blues lately. Your bathroom sounds wonderful! I used to have a lighthouse theme in my bathroom years ago. The living room sounds wonderful too! I am thinking of eventually painting my kitchen a light yellow. Glad you enjoyed the card as well! 🙂

  13. Love the card Justin! Great idea for making notebook paper (or should I say “fauxbook”)! Glad your move went well. Winston is a cutie! I’m the mother of two fur babies, so I can tell. 😀

    1. Thank you so much Vicki! The fauxbook paper is fun and easy to make! The move is moving along, LOL! You are definitely an authority on cute then! 🙂

  14. WOW, I’m impressed all moved and a card to blog. Next time i move i’m calling you. You are a true addict, your craft space is set up, Love it!!!!

Cute card, I love the Owl Punch, and I love your color scheme.

Had a FANTASTIC weekend scrapbooking. My goal, 1000 photos, I came up short, only got 132 done. Take care

    1. LOL! Not completely finished but getting there. I hope to never have to move again! And yes, I am definitely a true addict! The craft space needed to be set up ASAP! the card was a just for fun one and I’m glad you like it! A weekend of Scrapbooking sounds wonderful! LOL! Some is always better than none! 🙂

  15. Great craft room, Justin! It looks really organized! It’s amazing that you have the space for a craft room in the NYC area. Our neighbor’s son lives in NYC and has 2 roommates because rent is sky high. His bedroom is so small that his bed and a dresser barely fit.

Love your owl card! Too cute!!! I wasn’t thrilled with the Project Life Framelits, but now I see that these dies make great mats for layering. And I like the shape of the label that you used for the Happy Birthday sentiment, too.

Glad that you had help getting moved in. (I *hate* moving!) Winston is adorable! Thanks for sharing your pix!

    1. Thank you El! It’s tiny but functional! If I lived in Manhattan I definitely wouldn’t! I have a friend that has a studio and it’s tiny! The tiny room thing is a feature in most NYC apartments! LOL!
Glad you enjoyed the card! The PL Framelits are neat and yes, they work great for layering.
I too HATE moving and couldn’t have done it without my helpers! 🙂

  16. Hi Justin,
So glad to hear that today went well for you! And Andrew brought you StarBucks! He just moved up further in my book!! You are very blessed to have him and Fred able to help you out today. You just can’t say enough about having good people in your life.
Your stamp space looks great! Oh my gosh! How organized for just moving in! See all of your stamps make me not feel so bad about my addiction to stamps! I keep saying I should get rid of some, then I just can’t part with them. I only keep the retired ones that I love…I just love a lot of them!
Winston is a cutie! My dog does not like fireworks either, she either puts herself to bed or climbs up on my lap. My daughters german sheperd is terrified of them…he adds under the beds, trys to get into the bathtub! I feel so bad for him. The chihuahua is the bravest! She is not afraid of anything, other than getting her nails clipped that is!
I love this card! I love the colors, the black and bermuda bay with the real red and black is stunning! I love the owl! That punch is one of my all time favorites! I hope it never goes vintage!
Thanks for showing us your space and your dedication to card making in the midst of your move!
    Donna

    1. Hello Donna!
Yes! It was a good day indeed! Andrew is truly a wonderful person! Fred is like a moving machine! I would have been able to do any of this without them! I am truly a very lucky guy!
I like the stamp space too! It could be a little bigger, I have way too much stuff! LOL! I too have a very hard time thinking about getting rid of any of them! It;’s nice to know I’m not alone!
Winston just hides and shakes. I feel so bad but I have tried a number of things and none of them seem to help. It’s funny how some of them don’t like it and others don’t care.
I’m glad you like the card. I don’t think the Owl Punch will ever go away. He is cute and I have to remember to use him and not just the pieces!
Thank you for visiting! I always look forward to your comments! 🙂

  17. THANK YOU for sharing your galley-style studio, where everything’s in reach — just like within a galley kitchen. Good goal. Step 1 is to rid myself of non-SU stamping supplies; you were efficient in that step too. Instead of a few months, it’s been years’ accumulation for me and easily encouraged by working at a national craft store for five years before SU!

Winston is a real sweetie who probably zooms around most of the time, especially in new surroundings. I like when I hold the head of my Shih Tzu, Moxie, like your pic setup! Trimming him takes two because he’s always on the move, but he’s finally beginning to slow down now that he has turned eleven.

Keep up your excellence bolstered by your good friends. Only true friends help you move.

    1. You’re welcome Sue! Yes, everything is definitely in easy reach! I still have some non-Stampin’ Up! supplies but not a lot. I can only imagine how much you have if you worked in a craft store! Winston is a great friend, although he does try trip me a lot! LOL! Winston is 12 and he hasn’t slowed down at all! That is very true that only true friends help you move!! 🙂
