SUO Challenges 102

Another Monday behind us, I always feel a little better when Monday is done. I had a very nice evening last night. Andrew came by and picked me up and we went to Friday’s for dinner. After, we came back to my place and watched Divergent, he hadn’t see it and said that he really enjoyed it. It was nice to catch up, he has been quite busy lately. He was lucky enough to win tickets to go and see Jason Mraz the Friday that I was away at Convention. He had great seats and really enjoyed himself. An evening spent with a good friend, doesn’t get better than that! 🙂

As always on Tuesday here are this week’s Stampin’ Up! weekly deals…

Now off the fun! The card I have for you today is for the SUO Challenges! This time we ask you to show off your favorite new toys. I was lucky enough to win what I think is probably my favorite thing out of the new holiday catalog while I was at Convention. The card begins with a base of Pear Pizzaz Card Stock The background is a piece of Whisper White that I stamped with the Hardwood Background Stamp in Smoky Slate. Before I adhered the background to the card, I used the Squares Collection Framelits to cut out a piece behind the “window” and adhered a piece of All is Calm Specialty Designer Series Paper. The background is then adhered to the base with Stampin’ Dimensionals. My window is made again using the Squares Collection Framelits and a piece of Whisper White Card Stock. I adhered a piece of Window Sheet to the backside of the window for a more authentic look. The window is then adhered to the card with more Stampin’ Dimensionals. My wreath is from the Wondrous Wreath Photopolymer Stamp Set and is stamped in Pear Pizzaz, Mossy Meadow, and Cherry Cobbler. To cut it out I used the Wonderful Wreath Framelits. The flowers are also from the same set, cut out with the same framelits, and adhered to wreath with Stampin’ Dimensionals. I used my Daffodil Delight Stampin’ Blendabilities Markers to color in some Basic Jewels Pearls and put them in the centers of all the flowers. The wreath is then adhered to the window with, yes you guessed it, Stampin’ Dimensionals! My greeting is cut out using the Wonderful Wreath Framelits from a piece of Cherry Cobbler and adhered with 2-Way Glue. I went with a white wood background because I felt it gave the card a more wintry feel and I really love the way the wreath looks on the window. So there you have my card for the SUO Challenges: Favorite New Things Challenge. I know Christmas is a ways off, but I do love to play with some new stuff. I hope you enjoyed the card and don’t forget to stop by the blog to see what my fellow designers have used for their cards. I hope you all have a terrific Tuesday! 🙂

  1. You did it again! I wasn’t sold on that wreath set in the new mini, but your card has changed my mind! I love it! And what a cute idea for the window! Congrats on winning this set!

  2. Oh my!! Beautiful!! I’ve always loved window style cards and this one with the hardwood background is stunning! I can see why you are so happy to have come home with the Wonderful Wreath set! Your colors and layers on the wreath reminds me that Downeast Maine is the wreath capital come October through December. One company makes, transports and places all of the wreaths at Arlington Cemetery and many other military grave sites. I may have to CASE this one!! Have a wonderful Tuesday!

  3. Gorgeous card….. French one too! LOL. Definitely have to “have” this framelits, right? Love your little window. Neat trick. Will most certainly use it.

  4. Beautiful card, Justin…you hit this one out of the ball park! I am so looking forward to seeing all the new goodies in the upcoming mini.

  5. WOW Justin! Beautiful card! I think this is your best creation yet! 😉 I was happy to see that your trick for creating the window was with a square punch. I’ll definitely try that. I love this new wreath set and can’t wait to get it. I will be making our Christmas cards with it. The hardwood stamp looks great stamped in smoky slate. Just a gorgeous card! So glad you got to spend some time with Andrew yesterday…how cool that he won those concert tickets. Have a great day Justin…just love this card!!!

    1. Thank you very much Karen! I had a lot of fun making the card! It took a little while. I love the window, and it was pretty easy with a few pencil lines. The Wreath set is my favorite in the Holiday Catalog and the Hardwood is my favorite background! I was very happy to see Andrew yesterday! He had a great time at the concert! I hope that you had a wonderful day! 🙂

  6. Glad you and Andrew had some hang out time yesterday. As for your card, absolutely stunning, Justin! Congrats on winning the wondrous wreath prize patrol! I fell in love with the Wondrous Wreath bundle the moment I saw it at convention. I also love the way you used Hardwood as the background. That’s my favorite background stamp and its been given lots of love. It’s also help me become fond of Sahara Sand. Try it on naturals white – love it! LOL

Hope you have a great day!

    1. Me too Vicki! A week is too long to not see him! LOL! Thank you very much! I was so happy when I got the Wonderful Wreath Set!! It is definitely a wonderful set! The Hardwood Background is my favorite too! I have always been a fan of Sahara Sand, it’s a very versatile neutral. I will definitely give that a try! I had a nice day and hope that you did too! 🙂

  7. Oh Justin – what an amazing card to return home to. I agree with Karen and I’m glad Beth mentioned the wreath company here in Maine that makes the wreaths for so many Veteran’s cemeteries. Their trucks have wreaths on the side and they say Wreaths Across America but I’ve forgotten the name of the company. Anyhow, before I get too far off track, I absolutely love this Christmas card. It practically shouts “come on in, all are welcome”! Using the window sheet was the coup de gras (I’ve probably spelled it incorrectly but you get the picture). All you demo’s are so lucky to get to see the new catty early. I can’t wait. Thanks again Justin for the absolutely fabulous card! Glad you had a good Monday, we spent it returning from Connecticut.

    1. What thank you very much Grace! I’m glad that it was your homecoming card! I get a wreath from Winterberry Farms in Penobscot every year! I love it! I looked up the Wreath Across America, what a great organization! I love the wreath on the window, it does have an inviting feel to it. I wouldn’t have know if you spelled that wrong! LOL! I love getting the pre-order stuff but free at Convention made it even better!! I’m glad that you are home safe my friend! 🙂

    1. Thank you Dawn! LOL! Yes, I had a great time at Convention and they definitely captured that in the video! LOL! 🙂

  8. As always Justin a well thought out and wonderfully executed card. Congrats on winning the Wonderous Wreath set. I really like the way you coloured the small pearls and added them to the centers of the flowers and your detail in adding the window sheet to your beautiful window frame. What a great touch looking from outside the door in and seeing the “wall paper” on the other side of the window. Great detail. Thanks again and have a great stamping week!

    1. Thank you so much Penny! I was ecstatic when I got the set! I thought the flowers needed a little pop of color and the pearls seemed like a good choice. I love using window sheet, especially for what it’s name implies! LOL! I’m happy that appreciated all of the details! I hope that you have a great Stampin’ week too! 🙂

  9. Oh, Yest, it is BEAUTIFUL. Look at all the responses already. Love every part of it. Great Card, great description. Thanks a bunch!

  12. OMG!!!! Justin! OMG!!! 🙂 🙂 🙂 First, congratulations on winning one of the MOST gorgeous sets in the catalog! I just love this card (can you tell??) I recently made a card using the Hardwood stamp and Smoky Slate as a ship’s porthole for the Sea Street set. This though, goes WAY beyond! I adore what you’ve done and the piece of dsp behind the window is great! I am still a little confused on how to create this card, especially the window, but I’ll re-read it till I get it and I really do have to CASE this one! Outstanding!!! 🙂

    1. Woo hoo! Thank you so very much Bobbi! I was so happy when I got the set! I’m even happier that you love the card! I love the Hardwood Background Stamp, so great! Your card sounds wonderful! Very clever! I hope that my instructions were clear enough, if you have any questions contact me! Have a great night! 🙂

This is a very pretty card. It reminds me of my Christmases from my childhood. I love that you used white card stock with the hardwood stamp. Very pretty!
I had a very nice evening last night, my friend and I had dinner on the beach. It was a beautiful night for it. We also got to see the shuttle take off last night, that is always amazing to see.

  20. Hi Justin, I LOVE this card! Can’t wait to get my hands on that whole set. There are so many possibilities beyond Christmas. You’ve really gotten me excited about this with your beautiful example.

  21. WOWZER!!!! I apparently get your blog via email a day later. I am soooooo glad that I got this one. This card is over the top, over the moon whatever, it is gorgeous!!! I can’t wait until I can buy the stamp set and framelits. I can see so many possibilities starting with your card.

    1. Oh no Sandy! That’s not good! I’m so glad that you like the card! I love that Stamp Set and Framelits! I know that you will have just as much fun with it as I have had! 🙂

  22. Fabulous!! Just for the record, I want to let you know in advance that I will be Cas-ing this card for my Holiday Event in October! Thanks for sharing!

    1. Thank you very much Cindy! I love to busy as long as it is being crafty! LOL! Happy that you enjoyed the card! 🙂

  23. Fabulous card Justin but I cant work out how you made the windows no matter how many times I re read your post. Do you only use the squares die?

    1. Thank you Karen! No, for the outside of the frame I just cut it with the Stampin’ Trimmer, I just use the Squares Framelits to cut out the window. I hope that helps! 🙂

  24. This is an Amazing design….I would love to CASE this, if you don’t mind, that is… Did you make this card 5 x 6 1/2?

  25. Fabulous design, Justin! I *love* all the layers. So much detail! The wreath on the window, peeking through the window panes to see the wallpapered living space gave me a warm feeling. The Noel sentiment on the wood siding conjured up for me a winter setting in a cabin in the woods. Just perfect for the holidays. *LOVE* it!

    1. Thank you El! I’m glad that the card evoked the warmth that I had intended! And yes, it was a window on a cabin! Frosty outside but warm inside! 🙂
