Paper Craft Crew 108

First days back to work after a long weekend are usually not that great but mine was! I had to go out to East Hampton to the school that we have there and set up a loop on one of the TV’s using the new hardware and software that I recommended. It’s a 75 mile trip each way and once you get to certain point on the road that goes out there it’s one lane and very slow moving. But, it was a nice sunny, if not very hot and humid day. Top down in the car and the music up nice and loud made for a good if not long ride. It was the day before classes start so the staff was there and they got everyone pizza for lunch. I picked a good day to go out there! LOL! I got the setup done in about 2 1/2 hours and then headed home. You wouldn’t know that Long Island really is long until you head out to the Hamptons! It’s still the place to go after all of these years, I have friends that have houses out there and I have been out in the summer but it’s way too crowded for me. I like to go out in the fall, there are less people but still things to do and places to go. I do love a field trip as you all know! 😀

One of the stamp sets that I use on my card today is called Good Greetings. It’s the Host set for the 2014 Holiday Catalog and you can earn the set for free when you either host a party or place an order for $300 or more between now and October 31st. This is in addition to the regular Host Benefits that you already get. You can see more info below or clock HERE to download a PDF of the flyer. It’s a great set to have in that really cool font! Get yours today!

It’s Wednesday (already!) and that means that today is my post for the Paper Craft Crew Design Team blog. This week we have a fun sketch for you…

PCCCS108- Sketch 9-03-2014

At first I though postage stamps for the two squares and then I decided that was too obvious so I dusted off an oldie but goodie! For my card base I used a piece of Smoky Slate Card Stock with a small strip of Pool Party going down the left side. The panel in the middle is a piece of Lost Lagoon and I heat embossed the sentiment/image from the Seasonally Scattered Stamp Set in White Stampin’ Emboss Powder. It’s backed with a piece of Cherry Cobbler and mounted to the card with Stampin’ Dimensionals. My two snowflakes are from the “Vintage” Festive Flurry Stamp Set, they are heat embossed in Pool Party and cut out with the “Vintage” Festive Flurry Framelits. I flagged a piece of Whisper White and heat embossed the greeting on it from the Good Greetings Host Stamp Set in Cherry Cobbler Stampin’ Emboss Powder. Some Dimensionals go behind the snowflakes and flagged greeting and hold them in place. To complete the card I place three enamel dots up in the right corner. The Seasonally Scattered Stamp Set is really cool and looks especially good heat embossed on a darker color, really makes the sentiment stand out and I still love those snowflakes! The card has a somewhat tailored masculine feel to it, wouldn’t you agree?! And there you have my Design Team card for this week’s Paper Craft Crew sketch challenge, Take a minute to stop by the blog and see what creations my fellow designers have for you and enter one of yours in the gallery! I hope that you enjoyed the card! I thank you for stopping by to see what I have been up to and I hope that you have a wonderful Wednesday! 🙂

  1. Hi Justin,
It sounds like you had a great day at work yesterday! You have to love those “field trips!”.
i love this card! The colors are perfect together! I love all the embossing you did. I just love that seasonally scattered set. You are right, it does look best when embossed on the darker color. I think the three enamall dots just add the right balance to the card. I think this is definitely gender neutral, which I think is hard to do when making Christmas cards. Great Job!
I love short weeks! I only have my granddaughter on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday so I have a really short week!
It was oppressively hot here yesterday! I tried to stay in as much as possible, it was just too unbearable to be out it. Today looks like it will be a little better.
Also, I wanted to mention, I love the way you are photographing your cards! Then look really good against the wood. I have a very difficult time with photographing my projects, they either are too light or too dark. Or they have a reflection from the bling I use causing the whole project to wash out.
I hope your Wednesday is as good as your Tuesday was!
    Donna

    1. Hello Donna,
Yes, any day that I’m out of the office is a good day! Thank you! I had fun putting the card together, I did think about the “squares” the longest and finally settled on the snowflakes. Seasonally Scattered is a really great set to heat emboss with! Those enamel dots are so cool and we actually have some now in the Project Life kit! We need more! Some in each color! I thought the card had tailored look to it and it would work well for anything! Glad you agree!
Yes, short weeks are the best! Tomorrow is Thursday already! And Saturday I have the Unite and Excite event! Should be lots of fun!
It was quite hot here yesterday too! Very humid but I can’t complain, I’ll still take that over the polar vortex any day! It’s very pleasant here today, just perfect again!
I’m happy that you are enjoying the new pictures. I thought they needed a little oomph. I want to eventually whitewash the wood, we’ll see when I can squeeze that in! I find that my iPhone takes good pictures and I have been using the Camera + App and am liking it.
I hope that you had a good day too! Mine was just a regular back to work day! 🙂

  2. Hi Justin:

I had to laugh when you called Festive Flurry “vintage”. That may be the case but I have that set and it has yet to see ink! LOL Makes me feel old.

I have to agree with Donna. The way you are photographing your cards lately is just gorgeous. The little accessories you put with them always match so beautifully. Did you take a presentation course or what? Of all the blogs I visit I must say that your presentation is the prettiest and most inviting one.

Glad you had a great day at work yesterday. It was hot and humid here and I complained the entire time we were running errands about getting out of a cool car at every stop and into an exhaustively hot car when we got back in. Then I thought “gee, if that’s all I have to complain about I’m pretty blessed”! and I stopped yapping about it. LOL

I like the take on your sketch today. I also thought of postage stamps when I first saw the sketch. Love the soft color combo’s which made the minimal amount of Cherry Cobbler really stand out. Another great card from the talented Justin Krieger! Thank you.

    1. Hi there Grace!
LOL! I prefer vintage to retired. I love the set and have used it a lot. I was bummed when it wasn’t on the carryover list but I will use it non the less! You need to stamp with it!!
I am having fun with the photography! One day I will have a bigger space to take the pictures in but for now the accessories are helping. I am just trying to evolve, no classes. Just having fun!
It was definitely hot and humid here too but I would rather be in the car than the office any day! I was thinking about complaining about the heat and traffic but I too thought the same that you did!
I love to use a pop of color with some nice muted tones. Again, just keeping it fun! Thank you so much my friend! You are awesome!! 🙂

  3. Hi Justin, I just got caught up on your past week’s postings. Your cards are beautiful. I love your photos, with the little “extras” next to them. I love your new feather colors on your blog and I love all your stories. I was wondering about Oreo and just how many times can you ask a person. My daughter even asked about her. You know how we are all one big family. I’ve been busy making swaps for the Unite & Excite and looking very forward to it.
    🙂

    1. Hello Nancy!
I’m glad that you are back up to speed! Thanks very much! I do appreciate it! The pictures are more fun for me because I get to create a little scene! I’m glad that you are enjoying them! I love the you enjoy my blog!! It makes me a very happy boy! I feel bad for Sandy, she misses Oreo so much. She has looked everywhere. I really do hope that he comes back. Yes, we are all one big happy family and that’s really the best part of all of this isn’t it! I’m looking forward to Unite and Excite too! 🙂

  4. Good Morning Justin. Another wonderful holiday card with great colors. I too still hold on to my festive flurry stamp set- it will get use again this holiday season.
A trip to the Hamptons with the top down sounds like the perfect day- I love my little convertible(Miata) too.
Your black and white profile picture is great! Happy Wednesday to you.

    1. Hello Marty!
Thanks so much! I love the Festive Flurry Bundle, the snowflakes are so pretty!
Yes, the trip was quite nice. I love Miatas and have always wanted one! They are just the cutest cars! Glad you like the pic, I think it’s the best on anyone has ever taken of me! Happy Wednesday to you too!! 🙂

  5. Justin, Beautiful card! I just love color embossing powders… especially when they are embossed onto vellum.

  6. Hi Justin! Wonderful card today! Love the color combo! I never tire of any shade of blue and red together. Love all the embossing you did on this one. And how cute is that little spool of baker’s twine. I know you said in an earlier post that you got the spools at Michael’s. I’ll have to look next time I’m there. I don’t like the way the twine gets those little kinks from being on the card. Or maybe I’m too picky! 😉 I have to agree with the other comments made that your photos and your staging is the best! It sounded like you had fun yesterday so hope a little of that carried over into today for you! Have a great one Justin! Oh—meant to tell you I enjoy your little quotes on Instagram!

    1. Hello Karen!
Thank you very much! I too love red and blue together, well I love blue with just about anything! The spool of baker’s twine just looks so much better than the card pack it comes in. It only takes a minute to wrap it around and yes, the bonus is that it get out the kinks! You are not too picky, I don’t like the kinks either! I’m so happy that you are all enjoying the pictures, I’m really having fun with them and you motivate me to try new things! Today was a standard day at work but I had fun this evening! Yeah! I’m so glad you enjoy my little quotes. They just fall out of my head from time to time so I got that neat little app and decided to share them! 🙂

  7. Hi Justin,
Just catching up with your cards and news for last few days and enjoying the holiday cards. How can it be September already?! I know I’m getting older as each year seams to pass quicker. LOL!
It sounds like you had a great field trip to the Hamptons and pizza too, not a bad day! How satisfying that the school are using the loop system you recommended, IT genius at work by sounds of it!
I can’t wait till my next class with Sarah my SU demonstrator and friend next weekend as it’s been a couple of months so need my fix!
    Take care, Michelle xo

    1. Hello Michelle!
Thanks very much! I’m glad that you are enjoying the posts and projects! I can’t believe that it’s September all ready! The time really does seem to fly! I did have a nice trip to the Hamptons, and the pizza was a nice bonus! He he! Yes, I do a lot of the It stuff and don’t get the recognition or the pay for it. Oh well! I am looking forward to Unite and Excite on Saturday! I’ll be sure and fill you in on all of the details! Enjoy your day! 🙂 XOXO

  8. I love vintage, so I think calling Festive Flurry vintage just makes the set special. It may be “retired” but it still is one of my favorite stamp set and framelits. This card s awesome, love your color choices and of course the embossed velum. I missed that hostess set, is it in the catty?

    1. Thank you Linda! Yes, Vintage is a good thing! I agree with you completely, it’s still one of my favorites too! The Host set is just published on the flyer. There are no Host sets in the catalog! And yes, they really are called Host sets now!! 🙂

  9. What an amazing combination of colors. Wow, Justin! I can almost feel a frosty breeze blowing off my iPad as I look at this card. Did you feel cool making it?
