Freshly Made Sketches 157

A very good Saturday to you all! My Friday was pretty good, The weather here was overcast with little peeks of sun, it was a little on the chilly side in the morning but got better as the day progressed. I guess the people in my department missed me yesterday because we all ate lunch together today! After dinner I sadly took my air conditioner out of my window, that for me signifies the end of summer and it was a bummer! LOL! I ran up to IKEA to see if I could get my new blinds, the ones that were here when I moved in were a mixed bunch to say the least. They had them and when I went to put them up wouldn’t you know that one of them was missing the hardware! I will have to wait until Monday to go back, only very brave people go to IKEA on the weekends! I’m off to Manhattan this morning, I have a Stampin’ Up! order to drop off and a few people to see and then I’m going to meet Andrew at Penn Station and we are going to wander around for a bit. I hope that the rain stops, we would like to go across the Brooklyn Bridge and that won’t be any fun in the rain. Fingers crossed peeps!

After I finished my around the house projects last night I sat down and made my card for this week’s Freshly Made Sketches challenge. This week the sketch is provided by Amy…

Freshly Made Sketches #157

Funnily enough I knew that I wanted to use some Burlap ribbon and gold, and that’s just what I did! My card base is a piece of Whisper White card stock. I covered the entire front with a piece of Kraft Card Stock. My center panel is some Gold Foil Sheet that I embossed with the Alphabet Press Textured Impressions Embossing Folder and backed with some Basic Black before adhering it to the card with some SNAIL. Next up is the 1 1/4″ Burlap Ribbon that is held in place with Sticky Strip. My hello is from the #hello Stamp Set and is heat embossed in Gold Stampin’ Emboss Powder on Basic Black and punched out with the 2″ Circle Punch. My “friend” is form the Let Your Hair Down Host Stamp Set and is also heat embossed in Gold Stampin’ Emboss Powder on Basic Black. I adhered both greetings to the Burlap Ribbon with some more Sticky Strip. I really love the Gold and Black with the Burlap and Kraft. I has an elegant yet casual feel to it! I hope that you enjoyed my card for this week’s Freshly Made Sketches challenge. I appreciate you coming by and remember that your visits make all of this possible! Have a amazing Saturday! ๐Ÿ™‚

  1. Good morning, Justin. I absolutely love this card. What an inspiring card to recreate this rainy Saturday morning. Enjoy your day in Manhattan.

    1. Hello Theresa!
Thank you! I’m happy that I brightened your dreary Saturday! I had a lovely day and hope that you did despite the rain! ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. What a beautiful card! Yes, only the brave go to ikea on weekends and last weekend I did it and survived and my craft room thanks me for the purchases. I still need better lighting than the one boob light but haven’t figured it out yet. Did you find a lighting solution for the galley yet? Happy Saturday!

    1. Thank you Christina! Oh, I am not going to IKEA on the weekend, I’ll wait until next week! LOL! I need better lighting too!! Everything is LED and so dim! I’m looking and will let you know when I find something! Happy Saturday to you too! ๐Ÿ™‚

  3. Good Morning Justin, Can’t believe it is Saturday already! I like this card very much and can see myself using it for some of my masculine birthday cards, minus the embossing . . . Fantastic Job! Love the colors.

  4. Very classy-love the 2 fonts, love the black n gold. It amazes me how after a long day you just plop down and very casually whip out a masterpiece like this! Looking forward to hearing about your excursion into the city.

  5. I like the whole combination of this card . I would have not thought of that EF done in the gold paper ! Wow ! Sorry about the lack of hardware in your blinds ….I had a flashback of putting toys together on late Christmas Eve ! It was not good ! Last ,but not least DO NOT ….go to Ikea on weekends !!! Unless you plan to be there for awhile !!

    1. Thank you Sonny! I love that EF and I love the Gold Foil so I thought lets give it a try! Yeah, I was a little bummed at the prospect of returning to IKEA just for hardware! I have memories just like your Christmas Eve ones! Oh, Don’t worry, I won’t be visiting IKEA until Monday! ๐Ÿ™‚

  6. Very cool card today, Justin! I saw it on Facebook first this morning and I had to go back and take a second and third look as I scrolled by. The burlap, gold, black, and kraft paper combine for a stunning overall effect. I love it!

  7. Very elegant card. LOL my firsttrip ever ti IKEA was on a Saturday, I found good parking so thought, “what is everyone’s poblem” Then I got inside, NEVER again! I need to get three cards done today, PLEASE! brain cooperate. I for my DTduties and then some Halloween projects. Tomorrow is the Chicago Marathon. With two kids running it I know I’ll be downtown all day. Then the dreaded Monday

    1. Thanks very much Linda! Ha ha! Yeah IKEA can be a bit deceiving from the outside! It’s a mad house in the one by me on the weekends! I hoe that you were successful in your crafting today! I hop[e that you have fun at the marathon tomorrow! We all dread Monday! ๐Ÿ™‚

  8. I love the look of this card! It looks like metal-work, with the burlap and kraft it is a great look. Thanks for sharing!!

  9. Hi Justin, Wow…what a strikingly shiny card! Again, all the elements mesh so well, which you have quite a talent for. Hope your day in the city is lots of fun, despite the weather.

    1. Hello Roseanne!
Thanks very much! Being creative is what I enjoy most and getting to share it with all of you is the best part! The city was great! Tune in tomorrow! ๐Ÿ™‚

  10. I love the gold foil with the kraft and burlap! What a great look! I feel the same way about IKEA — it’s not for the faint of heart on the weekend (or any day for that matter) in my book. I always have to psyche myself up to make that trip. I always feel like I’m going through a never ending maze.

    1. Thank you very much Amy! No, IKEA on the weekends is for the tough and patient! LOL! During the week it’s not too bad! I try not to go upstairs into the maze! I hope that you are having a great weekend! ๐Ÿ™‚

  11. Hi Justin, I’ve just caught with your blog for last week and cards have been fantastic. Loving your props too! I think you are brave going to Ikea on a Saturday and it’s certainly a way to spend your day. LOL! Enjoy rest of your weekend.
    Take care. Michelle xo

    1. Yeah! Thanks very much Michelle! I am having lots of fun with the props! Nope, not going to IKEA, not until Monday! That would be silly! LOL! Way too many people! I hope that you are enjoying your weekend! ๐Ÿ™‚

  12. Very classy Justin! Chic! I love working with Kraft cs and embossing. I can see using some paste embossing on this as a variation. Very classy indeed.
    Enjoy your weekend,
