Freshly Made Sketches 162

Ahh… today is my Friday! I’m off from work tomorrow and am going to try and catch up on some things. Michael also goes home tomorrow and will be missed. I’m so glad that I got to spend time with him and get to know him. He’s a great person and I look forward to him coming back again soon. Yesterday was another decent day but it’s chilly this morning. It is supposed to be colder over the weekend too. I went to Friday’s for dinner with Heather last night and then came home and crafted and relaxed a bit. Not bad for a Wednesday.

The card that I have for you today is for this week’s Freshly Made Sketches challenge…

Freshly Made Sketches 162

Yes, this was another one of those cards that I knew pretty much what I was going to do when I saw the sketch. My card base is a piece of Whisper White Card Stock and for my background I embossed a piece of Basic Black with the Lucky Stars Textured Impressions Embossing Folder. I cut two pieces of Smoky Slate and stamped the skyline from the Calling All Heroes Photopolymer Stamp Set in Memento Tuxedo Black on the bottom of them both. I adhered one of them to the background and wrapped some Basic Black Baker’s Twine around it three times and tied one of the Silver Basic Metal Buttons on and adhered the background to the base. On the top panel I stamped the Santa and sleigh form the Holiday Home Photopolymer Stamp Set and the greeting from the Endless Wishes Photopolymer Stamp Set both in Memento Tuxedo Black and adhered the panel to the card with Stampin’ Dimensionals. A few Sparkling Clear Sequins scattered around the night sky complete the card. I know what you are thinking, black and gray for a Christmas card… but I really do love the colors and images. I hope that you enjoyed my card for this week’s Freshly Made Sketches challenge and that you are inspired to try something completely different for a Holiday card. Thanks very much for stopping by and I hope that you all have a Terrific Thursday! ๐Ÿ™‚

  1. Hi Justin, the first thought that came to mind when I saw this card was New York City! This is such a creative take on the sketch and makes for a really cool card. Have a great day.

    1. Hello Roseanne!
Yes!! It’s definitely NY City! That is the main reason I got the Calling All Heroes Set, for the skyline! So happy that you enjoyed my card and I hope that you have a great day too! ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. Very cool card..the silhouette view for a Christmas card! Everything about the card is pleasing. Enjoy your long weekend….even though I am working 5 days this week, this is my last 5 day week of the year!

    1. Thanks Melanie! I thought that a black Christmas card might not work but I LOVE the way it turned out! I am going to try and enjoy my weekend! Lucky that it’s your last 5 day week for the year! I’m jealous!! ๐Ÿ™‚

  3. Oh, I love this card. You can feel the spirit in this card. Love the stars, the sequins, the color! It just came out great. It gave me the feeling of cold and Christmas, which go together. Love the twine and the button too.
    Enjoy your Friday off.

    1. Thank you Nancy! I thought the colors were cool, even for Christmas! Hope you had a good Friday! ๐Ÿ™‚

  4. Justin, I absolutely love your card. Have you changed something with your blog? I have not been getting the emails for quite a few days now and I miss your posts. I actually had to type in your website to get to your blog and see what I have been missing.

    1. Sandy,
Thank you! No, I haven’t changed anything but you are not the only person saying that you haven’t been getting emails. I think it might be fixed but let me know! ๐Ÿ™‚

  5. You have elevated a Christmas card to elegance with black and slate. So simple and yet striking! Love it! I hope you accomplish with your day off. I’m still working on my “stuff” but it’s all come quite a way. Unfortunately, I have far to go! Enjoy your days…Nancy B

    1. Thanks very much Nancy! I didn’t get anything accomplished yesterday. I was pretty melancholy and that made me quite unproductive. Hopefully the funk lifts soon. ๐Ÿ™‚

  6. Happy Friday Justin! ๐Ÿ˜‰ I love your card…I really do need to get that stamp set, just for the skyline! The stars embossed in the background just add so much to this. I love your different color scheme as well…it’s good to do something a little different. Nice you got to spend some time with Michael too. Enjoy your day!

    1. Hi Karen!
Thank you! It really is a great image! I love to use colors that you wouldn’t think of for a Holiday card! I’m going to miss Michael. ๐Ÿ™‚

  7. Super, duper Christmas card. I also immediately thought of the NYC skyline! I don’t know why I haven’t considered the Calling All Heroes set but I’m rethinking it now. It’s nice for little kids that live in the city to see that not everyone has a house with a yard and trees. I must say though that one of my favorite sets IS the Holiday Home set. Perhaps that’s because I’m here in the woods of Maine, well not really the woods but darned close to it! LOL Anyway, I really love this card and having the black city silhouette looks fantastic. Poor Santa had better not be afraid of heights though.

So glad you are having a three day weekend. Yeah! Good for you. Lots of time for friends and fun. Enjoy it enough for both of us and fill us in on all your wonderful exploits.

    Big hugs my friend! ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. Yay! Thank you Grace! Yes, it’s definitely a NYC Christmas card! I love the stamp set, even just for the skyline! Holiday Home is great! I have used that a lot! LOL! I’m sure that Santa is fine!
I was happy to not have to work. I’ve been sad lately so I had a low key day. Hopefully it will clear up soon. Big hugs to you too! ๐Ÿ™‚ XO

  8. I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE this! Black and gray is perfect for this. I am so jealous, enjoy youyr long week end. I’m actually off week of Thanksgiving so I’m counting down ony 6 more work days, pretty sad I know

    1. Thanks so much Linda! WOW! I wish that I had off Thanksgiving week! Not sad at all, I countdown every day to 4:15! ๐Ÿ™‚

  9. Such a fun card Justin! I love how you’ve used the Calling All Heroes Stamp set! I would never have thought to do that! Great idea! Love the black and white look! Thanks for joining us this week at Freshly Made Sketches!

    1. Thank you Jen! Love that skyline and need to use it more often! Have a great weekend! ๐Ÿ™‚
