Mojo 381

I woke up this morning to some snow flurries, well, really it looks more like someone is sprinkling glitter very minute or so! It’s barely snowing, I’ll take that! Yesterday was a nice day, it was somewhat sunny and warmed up a bit. I came home from work and continued to work on my projects. Andrew stopped by and we brainstormed about the Suicide website. It’s kind of hard to come up with something that doesn’t sound odd for something that is so serious and such a sensitive subject. I’ll let you know what the final decision is after it gets approved at work. Today is my brother Jason’s birthday! Happy birthday!! We are out to dinner tonight and I’ll post his card next week. One more day to go, we can do this! ๐Ÿ™‚

My card that I have for you today is for this week’s Mojo Monday sketch challenge…

Mojo381

I decided I would give a masculine, just-because card a try today. I started today’s card off with a piece of Basic Black Card Stock. My background is a piece of Smoky Slate stamped in Smoky Slate with my favorite, the Hardwood Background Stamp. The panel in the middle is a piece of paper from the Adventure Bound Designer Series Paper Stack backed with a piece of Basic Black. A piece of “Vintage” Basic Gray 5/8″ Satin Ribbon is adhered around the back of the background that is then adhered to the card base. My greeting is from the Hello There Host Stamp Set and is heat embossed on Vellum in Black Stampin’ Emboss Powder. I used the Circles Collections Framelits to cut it and the Basic Gray frame out, which is then adhered to the card with Stampin’ Dimensionals. A neat, somewhat monochromatic card, I really like the way the rocks on the DSP play off of the woodgrain background for a very earthy look. I hope you enjoyed my card for this week’s Mojo Monday sketch challenge. It’s always nice to have you stop by and see what I’ve been up to, so thank you! Have a great Thursday! ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. Seems so simple, but what an impact. I love your use of the vellum so the background paper shows through. Black and gray in this card make quite a lively statement with the Adventure paper. Happy Birthday, Jason! Have a terrific Thursday, Justin, for tomorrow is Friday! Nancy B

    1. Thank you Nancy! I think that DSP is just so cool! Thanks for the birthday wishes for my brother! My day was good and I hope that yours was too! YES! FRIDAY!! ๐Ÿ™‚

  3. Wow!! Love the wood and rocks together! My favorite part is that you can still see the rocks through the greeting stamped/embossed on the vellum!!

  4. Hello Justin! Fabulous card today! I love the rocks showing through the vellum and the woodgrain stamp is perfect for showcasing the rocks. I also love the sentiment that you used. I’ve used that in a more feminine way on cards so love the fact you made it more masculine looking! Just perfect! Happy Birthday to your brother! Hope you have a fun dinner and you’ll get to see little Daniel again! Have an awesome day!

    1. Hi Karen!
Thanks very much! I love the rocks with the woodgrain behind it, gives it a nice outdoorsy feel! I think that sentiment is great! Thank you for the birthday wishes for Jason! We had a nice time at dinner! Little Daniel was the best as you’ll see tomorrow! ๐Ÿ™‚

  5. Justin – this card is just “off the charts” beautiful! Isn’t that Adventure Bound DSP just amazing? I think Smoky Slate, Basic Gray and Basic Black are so striking when put together. You and I share the same favorite “go to” background stamp with the Hardwood stamp. I have to agree with all the ladies that seeing the DSP through the vellum is gorgeous. You really had the creative juices flowing last night for sure. Hey I checked out yesterdays card once again and the bow with the button DOES look like Mickey Mouse! LOL You have yourself a fantastic trip, we will all be waiting to hear about it. Hugs!

    1. Yay! Thanks very much Grace! Yes, the DSP is fantastic! I love when you can keep the card on the monochromatic side and it still has a little oomph! I do love that Hardwood Stamp, definitely my favorite background stamp! Yes, after I looked at the card after yesterday’s comment I can see it too! Maybe I did it subconsciously! LOL! I will have a great trip and you hear all about it! XOXO ๐Ÿ™‚

  10. Oh my gosh Justin! My Dad used to have a saying, “it’s as good as a bought one”, that applies to today’s card – looks like you bought it in a shop! So professionally put together, from start to finish, I love everything about it! You could quit your day job and do this for a living! It’s Friday morning, finally! It’s a long weekend here, for Australia Day, looking forward to a sleep in on Monday! Hope Jason has a fantastic birthday, enjoy your family time! ๐Ÿ™‚ Cheers Justin xxx
