Watercolor Confetti Ballons Birthday

I had another nice productive day yesterday! I straightened up a bit around the house in the morning and then sat down to make my card for today. My dad came over and helped me install the new panels that I got for the closet. They look so much better than what was there before! I headed over to Heather’s around 4:30 and we went to the supermarket to pick up some stuff for last nights little get together. Everyone arrived around 7:30 and the festivities go underway immediately! There is a beam that runs through Heather’s apartment and I decided that it would be fun to hang from it. You really are never too old to act like a fool!

Didn’t know that I was Spider-Man did you?! LOL! We had a very good time and it was so nice get so many of us together! Here we all are, love the timer feature on the iPhone!

My Peeps and I

From left to right there is Kim, Brian, Heather, Me, Stephanie, Neal, Adam and Erin. Quite the happy bunch aren’t we?! It really was a good time and I can’t wait for us to do it again!

I did have some fun making my card yesterday. I watercolored the background and made quite a mess doing it! The card base is Whisper White Card Stock. My background is a piece of Watercolor Paper, I taped it to a glass mat so it would stay flat. Some Blackberry Bliss and Lost Lagoon Re-Inkers are mixed with water and added to the paper that was brushed over with plain water first. I also flicked the brush over the paper for some added interest. My “confetti” is a mix of Perfect Pearls and water that I painted on randomly. The Heat Tool speeds up the drying and also helps flatten out the paper. I trimmed the piece to fit across the entire card front and used Fast Fuse to adhere it. The balloons are stamped in Versa-Mark on Vellum Card Stock with the Celebrate Today Photopolymer Stamp Set* and heat embossed in White Stampin’ Emboss Powder. The matching Ballon Framelits* are used to cut them out. I tied some White Baker’s Twine around them and adhered them with my 2-Way Glue Pen. I really love the background and the vellum balloons are great because the let you see more of it. I really hope that you enjoyed my card for today and that you are inspired to try some watercoloring! Thank you so much for coming by to see the crazy antics from last night too! I wish you all a really great Sunday! 🙂

  1. Wow what great pictures and a fun group! Who would think to hang from that beam- very funny!
Love the card today- can you explain the painting a little more-did you use a paint brush or aqua brushes? The vellum balloons are really terrific. Thanks Justin.

    1. Thank you Marty! We did have a lot of fun last night! LOL! I do like to act the fool every so often
I’m so glad that you like to card too! I used a paint brush and some reindeer mixed with water. Nice and easy and so much fun! 🙂

  2. Hi Justin,
Love your card. The vellum balloons are so great. The watercoloring looks good too, very festive. Your pictures are full of so much fun. I have 7 more days to my new iPhone. I can’t wait. A Timer!!
    🙂

    1. Hey Nancy!
Thank you! I had fun making the card and also hanging from the ceiling! LOL! You are going to love your new iPhone!! 🙂

  3. Hi Justin:

The balloons look fantastic “all gussied up” with vellum and embossing power. However the Coup de Gras is the Baker’s twine pulling it all together. What a fabulous card! I tried the watercolor background technique but it was way too messy for me. Better that I find a good DSP! LOL

Boy, when you say you are going to hang out I didn’t know you meant it literally! 🙂 What a fun photo. It looks like a great time and usually is when you get a group of your friends to get together and, by the way, what a great keepsake photo. Does anyone in the group scrapbook?

Snow, sleet, ice, rain – that’s the forecast here today. The Hubs is on his way out to snowblow. If he doesn’t get the snow gone before the ice comes it will be there until next May. Have yourself a Super Sunday. Hugs.

    1. Hello Grace!
Thank you! I do love a little heat embossing, especially on Vellum! LOL! I think that if you worry less about what the watercolor is going to look like and just let it happen it makes it a little easier! I don’t usually like messy but every once in a while it’s fun!
Ha ha ha! Yup, I literally hung out didn’t I?! I did have a blast, they are a good group! Unfortunately no one scrapbooks, I’ll have to get some project life stuff together!
Sorry that your weather isn’t great. It was overcast and rainy all day here, but better than snow! I hope you got all of your snow cleared away and that you enjoyed your Sunday! Hugs!! XOXO 🙂

  4. Awesome group photoi, any my your are more talented then we thought, LOL. Great card, love the velum balloons on the watercolor background, nice touch.

Yesterday was long, ice storrm,in the morning. But I did get my card made for The Stampng Boutique DT, and the we went out to dinner with my daughter and her boyfriend. Today is just snow, it is coming down. HATE IT! But going to the Blackhawks game tonight, cant wait.

    1. Thank you very much Linda! Ha ha! Didn’t know that I was Spider-Man huh?!?! Glad that you enjoyed the card too!
Sorry that you are having crappy weather too. I hope that you got to enjoy your football game! I too hate the snow, I’m right there with you! 🙂

  5. What a fun post! Looks like you and your buds had a great time! And I love the festive card! The watercolor background is wonderful! And the vellum balloons are so fun! Love, love, love this card!

    1. Thank you Melanie! Yes, we had a blast! Glad that you like the card too! I have a lot of fun with watercoloring! Thanks again! XO 🙂

  6. Hi Justin! Fun pics! Looks like you all had a blast! That’s a funny pic of you hanging from the beam…I’ll bet you’re the life of the party! Love your card today! I did order some vellum so I’ll definitely have to make some balloons. Great card! Hope your enjoying your Sunday.

    1. Hello Karen!
Yup, we had a very good time! I can be a bit of a juvenile sometimes, so yes, we’ll go with life of the party! It sounds better! Thank you! I love Vellum!! But you already know that! I had a nice Sunday and hope that you did too! 🙂

  7. Hey Justin, I see you have been “hanging around” with your friends this weekend! 😉 looks like you had a great time!! I love your cute balloon card, the blended background colours are so pretty! It’s Monday morning here and I am heading back to work today *sigh* -_- Holidays don’t last forever unfortunately. Enjoy what’s left of your Sunday Justin! 🙂

    1. Hello Kelly! LOL Yup, I was literally hanging around last night! I did have a great time! Thank you! Glad that you enjoyed the card! I will be back at work tomorrow, not to worry! I really do think that the work week should be 4 days!! I had a good day and hope that your first day back at work wasn’t too bad. 🙂

  8. Love it, Love it, Love it !!! Your card and picture both! The background paper you created is superb. What I see is tiny little balloons popping all around. The use of vellum for your balloons is perfect. The blending Blackberry Bliss and Lost Lagoon gives it a magical night time feel. Good friends, good times, good wine. Did you have the Red Velvet Cupcake last night? Your expression to me is saying…..see I told you I could hang on this beam. A great group picture of good friends.

    1. Yay! Thank you very much Lisa! Glad that you like both the card and silly picture! I am really loving all the blues and purples together! I actually had a bottle of wine that a friend at work had gotten me for Christmas. Kendall Jackson Chardonnay! It’s delicious! I was quite pleased with my beam hanging! LOL! 🙂

  9. Holy cow, you must have abs of steel to be able to hang from that beam, Justin! I’m impressed — by your Spidey talents and your fabulous vellum balloon card! Thanks for the inspiration 🙂

    1. LOL! Ahh, I assure you that I do not have abs of steel Jeanie! I wish I did! LOL! It was definitely fun to hang from the beam, if I had one in my house I’d do it all the time! Glad that you like the card too! 🙂

  10. Not a “fool,”, Justin . . . a kid. I believe that our inner child is a great part of the best of us. You look like you’re really having fun with some of your best buds!

Great card design again, Justin! I imagine that the Perfect Pearls confetti on your watercolor background have a pretty sheen that is not apparent in your photo. The vellum provides a wonderful translucent effect for your balloons. Very creative! *Love* it!

    1. Ha! Thanks El, I like that much better! I did have a blast and I definitely agree with you! The inner child needs to come out every once in a while!
Thank you! The Perfect Pearls definitely does have a nicer look in person! 🙂

  11. Ha! When I first opened this post, I thought you were walking on the ceiling. I thought “this must be some trick photography”. Then I looked closer and realized you are hanging on a beam. lol.
Love your vellum balloons! The background is really cool too but way too messy for me. I get ink all over me with regular old stamping.
I’m getting an order delivered tomorrow with this set, along with a bunch of other goodies. Can’t wait to play with this die. I’m teaching a card class at a crop in a couple of weeks and I want to use this set for one of the cards.

    1. LOLOL! Now that would be something wouldn’t it Gerri?! Yup, just hanging around!
I really enjoyed putting this card together and am very happy that you like it! Thank you! I’m not a fan of messy but I think we need every once in a while!
Hope that you enjoy playing with your new goodies! Sounds like you will get some good use out of it! 🙂
