Freshly Made Sketches 173

Oh yes… it’s that day… my favorite day… you guessed it, it’s FRIDAY!! Woo hoo! Bring on the weekend!! I’m looking forward to getting some projects finished and maybe even a trip into Manhattan at some point! Yesterday we had peeks of sun and then it snowed for about 30 minutes and was done. It’s supposed to get bitterly cold here over the next few days, they said that we might even break a record low temperature. That should be fun… NOT! Today I have a meeting this morning and then Andrew is going to come and meet me for lunch. Tonight I have a date with my friend Sandy! We are going to go out to dinner and then have a little crafty time! A lovely way to spend a Friday night! What’s going on by you this weekend?!

So I came home last night and played around in the Stampin’ Galley for a bit, I even got to do some watercoloring! One of the cards that i made last night is for this week’s Freshly Made Sketches challenge…

Freshly Made Sketches 173

I wanted to do something collage and a little off kilter so this is what I came up with. My card base is Whisper White Card Stock and the background is a piece of the Silver Fancy Foil Designer Vellum. Down the left side is a piece of paper from the Best Year Ever Designer Series Paper Pack. The panel in the middle is a piece of Vellum. I used another piece of the Best Year Ever Designer Series Paper and some of the Back to Black Designer Series Paper for my flags. They are stapled to the Vellum with the Handheld Stapler. The stamped image is from the Bits and Pieces Stamp Set and is stamped in Memento Tuxedo Black and adhered to the Vellum with SNAIL. I cut out a piece of Coastal Cabana with the Hello You Thinlits and used some 2-Way Glue to adhere it to the stamped image. Some more SNAIL adheres the Vellum to the card and a Basic Hodgepodge Clip finishes off the card. I like the randomness of the layout and the double use of the Vellum! I really hope that you enjoyed my card for this week’s Freshly Made Sketches challenge. Thank you so much for taking a little time to visit with me today! Have the best Friday ever! 🙂

  1. Very different. Like the pop of yellow and black and white. Have a good time creating with Sandy tonight. Stay warm.
    🙂

  2. so cute and so creative! If I tried to put all those elements together, it’d look like something just thrown together…you make it look like it was made to go together!

    1. Thank you very much Susan! LOL! I like to make a card that not’s all perfect every so often! 🙂

  3. So Justin, did you watercolor on vellum? I cannot figure out how you did the stripes down the side. How”d you do that?

  4. Happy Friday Justin! Great card today…love all the different elements…the vellum, the clip, even the staple. Sounds like a fun weekend on tap for you! We are getting away for a few days and to celebrate valentine’s day. That’s always been kind of big deal to us. Even after being together for 35+ years. 😉 Hope your day goes by quickly so you can get started on the weekend!

    1. Hello Karen!
It was a very good Friday indeed! Thank you! I had fun with the card! I hope that you have a lovely trip! I think that it’s amazing that after 35+ years Valentine’s Day is still a big deal to you!! That’s wonderful! My Friday was great! Have a wonderful weekend! 🙂

  5. Good Morning Justin:

Normally I’m a CAS card type person but your card for today, even with so many elements, really struck a cord with me. Of course I love vellum, love coastal cabana and positively, absolutely am in love with the designer vellum and the glitz it adds to the cards. Very creative combination that ended up in a beautiful card.

Since we are under a blizzard watch for the weekend it kind of put the kabosh on our Valentine’s Day plans so we have decided we will celebrate Valentine’s Day on the 28th by having two other couples to dinner. I’ll make lasagna, a salad and I have one apple pie left in the freezer that I will serve for dessert. It might not be the 14th of February but I’m still going to leave the Valentine’s decorations out until after our little dinner party.

It sounds like you have a fantastic weekend planned and, even though it’s cold, at least you won’t be trudging through another 2-3 ft. of new snow – or will you? LOL Whatever happens just enjoy. Hugs to you my friend! 🙂

    1. Hello Grace!
I was getting a little worried about you! I’m glad to “see” you! Thank you! It’s a fun card that is collage but doesn’t have too much!
I think that was a very good idea to move Valentine’s Day! You can have it whenever you want! It sounds like a delicious and fun evening is ahead!
I don’t know if all of the weekend plans are going to happen, we are to get snow here this evening and then tomorrow is supposed to be extremely cold. I might just stay in and make stuff! LOL!I help that you have a nice weekend and that soon all of our snow will be gone! XOXO 🙂

  6. Hey Justin, love this card!! The colours go so well together, kind of summery! And all the pieces are so perfectly placed! Well, my Friday at work was much better than the previous day, so that’s good. And now the weekend is here, so Happy Valentine’s Day Justin!! No great plans, it’s going to be 109 today, so staying inside is my plan, Lol! I have made 90 red and white jelly bean tubes with Stampin’ Up skinny cellophane bags, I just need to make toppers. I’m giving them out for Valentine’s Day at our Cafe Church tomorrow night. That’ll keep me busy!! I hope you enjoy your dinner with Sandy and your trip to Manhattan 🙂 Cheers Justin xoxo

    1. Hi Kelly!
Thank you! I need some summery with all of the snow that we still have and the extreme cold that we are to get this weekend! I’m glad that you had a better day at work. I know what a not so good day at work is, I sympathize with you! A very happy Valentine’s Day to you too! 109 is quite hot but I would take that over the -9 that we are supposed to have tomorrow! Good luck with your project, it’s sounds like fun! Have a lovely day my friend! XOXOXO 🙂
