Mojo 386

Hey there peeps! It’s Thursday! Yay! It was a heat wave here yesterday, we got up to 40 degrees! LOL! That’s a lot warmer than we have had in a very long time! I had a nice day yesterday, when I got home Daniel was at my parent’s so I spend a little time with him. His asks you “what’s dis?” and that means that he wants you to take him to whatever he is pointing at. We spent a little time opening and closing the microwave door and then we played with the magnets on the fridge. He is too funny! I stopped by my house and grabbed the stuff that I had to take to Scrap-A-Latte and then headed out. It’s always nice to go there and see Renee, it was just the two of us, well, we Skyped with my friend Andrea in Colorado for a bit. We had a good laugh and got all of the stuff ready for card class. There are 16 people and there are four cards, lots to cut, but fun! No, I didn’t manage to leave without buying something. I got the new Tim Holtz Bird Crazy Stamp Set and a Authentique 6 x6 Paper Pad called Classique:Beauty. Not too bad! I stopped by and saw Brian, Kim and Heather on the way home. Brian had made chicken parmesan with Panko breadcrumbs and fresh mozzarella baked to perfection, that’s what was for dinner! Not a bad way to end a Wednesday!

When I did finally get home last night I sat down and made my card for this week’s Mojo Monday sketch challenge…

Mojo386

Ahh… tall & skinny, I do love them! Sometimes when I sit down to make a card I just kind of let it happen. I don’t have any particular idea in my head. That’s what I did last night, I’m not sure if I love the color combo, you’ll have to let me know what you think. The base for the card is Basic Black Card Stock and the background is a piece of Smoky Slate. My piece in the middle is So Saffron. For the main panel I embossed a piece of Wisteria Wonder with the Spring Flowers Textured Impressions Embossing Folder and backed it with some Basic Black. A strip of Pear Pizzaz is flagged on the right and adhered to the panel with Stampin’ Dimensionals. The flower is from the Petal Potpourri Stamp Set and is heat embossed in Black Stampin’ Emboss Powder on a piece of Vellum. I used my Daffodil Delight and Wisteria Wonder Stampin’ Blendabilities Markers to color it on the back side. Some of the Clear Foam Adhesive holds it to the banner. The you is one of the Hello You Thinlits cut from a piece of Basic Black and the heat embossed multiple times with Simon Says Stamp Clear Fine Detail Embossing Powder. A few drops of 2-Way Glue adheres it to the card. I’m still really loving the way the Thinlit greetings look all shiny like that! So there you have my unusual card for this week’s Mojo Monday sketch challenge. You will have to let me know what you think of the color combo! Thanks so much for you time today! Have an excellent Thursday! 🙂

  1. Hey Justin!
I know photography can change the colors slightly, but in your pic, I really like your color combo! The black layers really make it pop, too. I also love the way you made and colored the flower. But, my MOST FAVORITE element is the embossed “YOU”……the embossing just adds so much to that!

    1. Hello Jeanne!
Thank you! I think that the colors stayed pretty true in the picture! I love the images heat embossed on Vellum and then colored in on the back! Yes, my favorite element is the you too! So nice and shiny! 🙂

  2. Not a color combo you would normally think of but it is very pleasing to the eye and I love your card. I especially love the vellum flower colored with blendabilities. BTW, where I live 40 is considered freezing. LOL!

    1. Thank you Janell! The color combo is growing on me! I wish that 40 was considered freezing here! 🙂

  3. Hey Justin…………….You always make vellum look absolutely beautiful. That flower is WOW! All around wonderful card.

  4. When I read your description of the way you did your card, I thought that you finally put together a very boring combination of colors. THEN I looked at the card, and I thought that you managed to liven it all up! You are a wonder! (Normally, I look at your card first; don’t know why I reversed it today, but it was a pleasant surprise.)
Daniel is sounding like he is growing! Did you manage to eat some of Brian’s chicken? I am intrigued by the sound of your new Bird Crazy stamp set. I will have to look it up. My day out yesterday was glorious just to be outside and away from the house!
You know what tomorrow is! Have a great one! Nancy B

    1. Thank you so much Nancy! I like when I can make something work! It’s great to hear how people read the blog too, some read first and some peek first!
Daniel is getting big, they grow up so fast don’t they? I did have Brian’s chicken and it was delicious! The Bird Crazy Set is really great, not what you would expect! I’m glad that you had a nice day and enjoyed yourself! 🙂

  5. Hey there Justin – you managed to get out of Stamp a Latte with only two new items? I’m sure I couldn’t do that! LOL The YOU in your card looks like licorice to me. How many times did you emboss it to get it to look so perfect? I loved the card but, to be totally truthful, the Pear Pizzaz for the flag didn’t do anything for me. I think Basic black would have popped it more. JMO – However, I do still think your design image along with the gorgeous job you did with the flower was absolutely fabulous. I know I couldn’t have done nearly as well with that design image.

O.K. – So you need to share the secret – how the heck do you get to so many places and do so many things every single day? Sometimes I get exhausted just reading what you have done every day. Are you taking some kind of vitamin that I’m not aware of? LOL Honestly when I read your blog to the hubs he shakes his head and says “must be nice to be young”!

Have yourself a tremendous Thursday and thanks so much for such a personal blog. I so look forward to “talking” to you every day! Next time you see Daniel you give him a few kisses for me. Hugs from Maine! XO 🙂

    1. Hello Grace!
I’m a little behind in my comments, sorry! I did manage to get out yesterday with only two things, I assure that is not usually the case! Yes, it does look like shoestring licorice! I embossed it four times, it helps to even out the coat. I think that you are right about the flag, I just had such a need for it to be Pear Pizzaz, maybe for some greenery for the flower?! Thanks!
Secretly I am two people! LOL! I don’t know sometimes how I get all over, it just happens and I go with it! If I had any secrets I would share them with you! Ha ha! I am enjoying everything while I can, I’ll have to slow down one day!
My Thursday was good! I too really do look forward to “talking” to you too! It’s a highlight of my day! I will give Daniel a few kisses for you! Hugs my friend! XO 🙂

  6. I’m still chuckling at the little mascot in the photo. What IS that? It looks droopy and forlorn and SO over this season-just like most of the rest of us.

    1. Ha ha! It’s a little schnauzer! He is a little droopy, and yes he definitely fits in with the rest of us! 🙂

  7. Hi Justin! I do like your card for today! I think the colors go well together as my eye sees the smoky-ness in all of them so together they look great! But the star of the card is the shiny black “you.” Love that! I’m trying to figure out what the prop is?? I’ve been looking at it for a long time and still can’t figure it out. I’ve come back to it and still nothing. You’ll have to let me know what it is. Or maybe it’s very obvious and I’m just missing it. 😉 Have a great rest of your day!

    1. Hello Karen!
Thank you! Yes, they all do have a smokiness to them. I do love that multiple heat embossing! The prop is a Mini Schnauzer ornament! LOL! It’s a little Winston! It’s not that easy to see in the picture! I had a nice day, hope that you did too! 🙂

  8. Hey Justin, this card is beautiful! That flower looks amazing on the vellum, you’re too clever! Love the embossed ‘you’ too, awesome! Like the other girls, I think the little “dog”? Is very cute, lol! Daniel seems to have you under his spell, funny how everyday things are so fascinating to little ones 🙂 16 people is a lot for a class, do you run the classes at the shop? I’m sure that I would have an account at Scrap-A-Latte, for both craft supplies AND coffee, it would probably end up costing more than my mortgage, Lol. Well, it’s Friday here (it’s about time too…) one more work day. I think I can, I think I can….. Have a great day Justin XOXO 😀

    1. Hi Kelly!
Thank you very much! Yes! It’s a dog! Look at you! Clever! Daniel is really just a happy smart little boy! It’s a big class but so much fun! I do run the classes, make the card, cut and then teach them. You would be in luck because the coffee is FREE at Scrap-A-Latte! It’s expensive for me too, but so much fun! Hope you had a good Friday! XOXO 🙂

  9. I think your card is stunning. Even if I didn’t like it, I would still tell you I did because you have that horse head lying there beside it, and I have seen The Godfather! Whoa! Luv ya, Justin!

    1. LOL! Thank you Georgie! You can tell me if you aren’t fond of a card! Sometimes I don’t love them! Ha ha!! It’s not a horse head! It’s a little dog! LOL! You are too funny! Luv you too! 🙂

    1. I hardly ever use Wisteria, it’s an odd shade to me, but it does look nice on the flower! YES! Tim’s Bird Crazy is cool! 🙂

  10. Gosh Justin, this is a phenomenal card! I really like the colors that you chose, I wouldn’t have thought of them together, but now I will. I do like the touch of Pear Pizzazz – it looks like a “stem” to your flower and completes it. That is what popped into my head when I saw it. Thank you for sharing the embossing technique of the “you”! I am really excited to try this too. Every detail about your card is just gorgeous and I hope to try to replicate it when I get my Petal Potpourri set. Thank you Justin for your creative inspiration 😉

    1. Yay! Thanks very much Jill! I was definitely thinking that Pear Pizzaz was some sort of greenery for the flower! We are on the same wavelength! You will have to let me know how the You goes for you! LOL! 🙂
