Freshly Made Sketches 176

Hi there everyone! Well, the snow started again this morning and it’s to continue throughout the day. Will Winter ever end? I just got a text that my office will be closed today! Yippie! LOL! I had a nice day yesterday, Robin and I had Wendy’s for lunch, it’s been forever since I have had fast food and it was yummy! I had a meeting off-site at 1:00pm and then went back to the office to finish up some stuff before heading to the parent’s for dinner. When I got home I retreated to the Stampin’ Galley to make my card for today. I finished and made the mistake of going on YouTube where I got sucked in for about 2 hours watching various nonsense! YouTube is a fantastic time waster! Lots to do and I spent the better part of the evening watching nonsense, felt good though! LOL!

The card that I made last night is for this week’s Freshly Made Sketches challenge…

Freshly Made Sketches 176

Now I can safely say that I have never made a card like this before, what a fun sketch! I started my card off with a base of Whisper White Card Stock, when folded it’s 9 1/4″ long by 3″ tall. My background is a piece of Soft Sky, I used the Scallop Edge Border Punch along the bottom. The hello is a Mama Elephant Die and is cut out from the background. Before I adhered the background I tied a piece of Black Baker’s Twine around it. I laid the cut out back in after I adhered it to the base and put the cut out word back in so I could put back the little pieces and then I removed the word. The butterfly is cut out with the Butterfly Thinlits from a piece of Basic Black and adhered with Stampin’ Dimensionals. I put some Crystal Effects on the body and fluffed up the wings a little and the card is done! I really do like the size of the card. I also was temped to put on some sequins but I wanted to keep the card as clean as possible! I really hope that you like my card for this week’s Freshly Made Sketches challenge. Thanks to Cindy for a really fun sketch and thank you for coming by to spend a little time with me today! Have a terrific Thursday! 🙂

  1. Good Morning Justin:
Well glad to see your interpretation of this. card. Not one I would take on but fun to see anyway.
Enjoy your snow day- lots of time to spend creating.

    1. Hi Marty!
I had a good time making the card! I like to do things that I haven’t before!
I had a lovely day, but it’s over way too fast! 🙂

  2. Tall and skinny…..lying down! Cool card Justin. I am sure you will have a great day off work today! Yippee Skippee. Here it’s -18C…… looks really cold. Have a super day!

    1. YES!! Exactly Louise! Thank you! I did have a wonderful day off form work! Oh, -18! Well, we had 6 inches of snow. I hope that you had a good day too! 🙂

  3. I LOVE IT! Who’d a thunk you could make a nice card with no stamps and no ink?!

  4. Wow ! A black butterfly ! Pretty and I love Soft Sky . This is an interesting and a good sketch to keep on hand . The card should fit in a #10 envelope . Oh and btw….we had 74 degrees yesterday ! Going down to 40 tonight ,but it was nice to have a Spring day in N.C.

    1. Thanks so much Sonny! I love Soft Sky too and I think that the butterfly looks striking against it! The card will fit in a #10 envelope. I’m very jealous of your 74 degrees! Can’t wait for it to be that here! 🙂

  5. Boy Justin, this storm must be forecast as pretty bad for your office to shut down! An unexpected vacation day for you for sure. This one is supposed to stay south of us thank goodness. We still have almost 4′ of snow in the yard.

I really like this sketch and the fact that this size card should easily fit into a business size envelope. They are so much less expensive than the A2 size. It was quite clever the way you punched the hello, put the punched pieces back in and then took out the word. I bet that took a bit of patience eh? The effect is stunning though.
Of all the edge punches I have the scalloped edge is my favorite. It seems to soften any card it’s used on. Occasionally I create a card without stamping a thing except the inside message. I like doing that as an alternative to having to having to put ink colors together once in a while. Just something a little different yet still creative.

Enjoy your surprise day off. I know what you mean about You Tube – I get caught in the grips of it more often than I want to admit. I watch one video of a performing artist that I like and up pops a choice of a dozen more which I then, of course, absolutely have to watch. Before I know it hours have past and my “to do” list stares me in the face with a “what the heck are you thinking” kind of look. Oh well – Love and Hugs my friend! XXOO 🙂

    1. Hi Grace!
Yes, we had 6 inches of snow and it snowed all day! My office never shuts! I was quite happy when I got the text! I’m glad that the storm missed you, you have enough!
I too really like the sketch! I love different! The card will fit in a business size envelope. They are a lot cheaper. It did take a bit of patience to get the pieces back in but I think that it was well worth it too!
I agree with you about the Scallop Border Punch. I too enjoy a card with no stamping!
I had a wonderful day of crafting, I even managed to clean up the Stampin’ Galley a bit! I have to find some skinny shelves, I made a little more room! YouTube is no good! It cost me money every time I go on there! I watch too many crafting videos! It was nice to just watch stuff for a bit though! Love and hugs to you too! XOXO 🙂

  6. Hi Justin!
This card is so pretty. I just love it! Does it really fit in a business size envelope with the butterfly sticking off the card like that? Or did you have to make an envelope for it?
    Thanks for sharing,
    Gerri

    1. Hello Gerri!
Thank you! It does fit in a #10 envelope, the card is only 3″ high. Hope you had a nice day! 🙂

  7. I love the hello cut out, the butterfly looks very elegant on the card, really like this one. Maybe the snow will continue and you will have an unexpected long w/e….(are your fingers crossed?)

    1. Thank you Lynne! I actually have had enough snow, I’ll take work! Yikes! 🙂

  8. Hello Justin! Yippee for the snow day! Remember how excited we’d be as kids if school was closed? Do you have to work from home or it is a total crafting day for you? Hope it’s the latter. 🙂 Great card today! No stamps and no ink??? This looks very elegant to my eye. Have an awesome day today!

    1. Hi Karen!
Yes! It was a very nice surprise! I was just as excited, maybe even more so, as I was when we got a snow day from school! LOL! I had a totally crafty day! Nope, no stamps, no ink! Thank you! Hope that you had a nice day too! 🙂

  9. Love this sketch and the versatility of the butterfly thinlits. The blue sky with the shiny black butterfly plus the creative way with hello and it all makes a very pretty card. You are so creative. Enjoy your free day off.

    1. Thank you HJ! The sketch was great! I’ll use the size again! I had a great day, hope that you did too! 🙂

  10. Hey Justin, what a beautiful card!! I LOVE the cut out ‘hello’ with the white showing through, the whole thing is stunning! Good luck finding an envelope to fit, lol! “Various nonsense” ha ha, that’s hilarious – I know exactly what you mean, YouTube is a dangerous thing for a busy person! You are lucky having your office closed for the day! Can you forward that text to me – I’d love a day off 😀 Hope your day is relaxing – knowing you, it will be jam-packed with exciting adventures, lol! Cheers Justin 😉 xxx

    1. Hi there Kelly!
Thanks so much! I think the hello is my favorite part too! It fits in a standard business size envie! Yes, YouTube is no good! LOL! I was so happy that the office was closed! Yippee! I don’t know if they would buy a snow day for you though! LOL! I had a super crafty day! Hope you had a great day! XOXO 🙂

    1. LOL! Thanks Brian! It took a lot of practice, but I’ll tell you the secret in the morning! 🙂

    1. Thank you Linda! I love the butterfly thinlits! I know, we should get sunny days too! LOL! 🙂

  11. Oooh, love the clean but elegant look to your card! I’m especially excited to read that it will fit in a business envelope, yay 🙂 I’ve always been afraid to try making one, but I LOVE this one and I’m going to challenge myself to recreate your card. 😉 Thanks for the inspiration!

Yay for your snow day! Love those, we don’t get too many anymore. SC really doesn’t get anything exciting. Lived in Rhode Island for about 6 months, crazy, crazy snow there. Total was above my head, lol. You could lose a person in there. I hope you were able to craft to your hearts content 😉 Can’t wait to see what you’ve created, take care and enjoy!!

    1. Thank you so much Jill! I have never made one that size before either but I will make that size again!
Yes, the snow day was a nice and appreciated surprise! I would be fine with no more snow all together to be honest! We have had a lot this year but I think that Boston has had 96 inches! No thanks! I did have a very crafty day filled with wonderful interruptions of friends! It was a wonderful day! 🙂

  12. I love how the detail of that gorgeous butterfly pops against this pretty, clean card. And I love how you’ve added Crystal Effects to it. It’s always good to see one of your cards in the gallery at Freshly Made Sketches, Justin! After getting four inches of snow here in the DFW area on Thursday, it appears we are now on our way to Spring. Hope you will soon follow.

    1. Thank you very much Amy! I thought that the butterfly in black would be fun! You guys don’t usually get snow? We have had way too much up here, hopefully it’s done now! I hope that you are having a great weekend! 🙂
