Melon Nature’s Sheer Perfection

I made the most of a rainy day! I spent some time in the Stampin’ Galley in the morning and around noon I headed over to see Renee at Scrap-A-Latte. She had a crop in progress when I got there and I got to see bunch of peeps. I went there to turn in my cards for the card class on Friday. I’m supposed to have them 2 weeks before and she said that she wanted to be mad at me but the cards were so good that she couldn’t be! LOL! Yay! I spoke with Michael for a bit and then came back home. I stopped by my parents and we had Boston Market for dinner. I was good and had a salad! When I got home I Skyped with Eva for a while and Taylor came by. See, made the most of a rainy day! Today I’m off to Manhattan to see my friend Kim’s future apartment! That’s going to fun! 🙂

When I sat down to make my card for today I decided that I wanted to use a color that I haven’t used in a while. After some consideration I settled on Melon Mambo. I used Whisper White Card Stock for my base and covered the front in a piece of Melon Mambo. The background is a piece of the Sheer Perfection Designer Vellum, I heat embossed the greeting from the Painted Petals Photopolymer Stamp Set in Gold Stampin’ Emboss Powder and adhered it to the background with 2-Way Glue. A piece of Brushed Gold is cut out with the Simon Says Stamp Frames Die and also adhered with 2-Way Glue. The flower and the butterfly are from the Nature’s Perfection Stamp Set and are both heat embossed in Black Stampin’ Emboss Powder on Watercolor Paper. I used Melon Mambo Re-Inker mixed with water and a brush to paint the images and then cut the flower out with my Paper Snips and the butterfly is punched out with the Elegant Butterfly Punch. Some Stampin’ Dimensionals adhere them to the card. You know there has to be a little bling and today’s is some Simon Says Stamp Sparkle and Shine Sequins adhered with Crystal Effects. I also gave the flower and the butterfly a liberal brushing with my Wink of Stella Clear Glitter Brush Pen. I love that the flower in the stamp set matches the flowers in the vellum and I took a closer picture of the flower so you could see the subtle sparkle that the Wink of Stella adds! I hope that you like today’s nice bright card! Thanks for taking little time to come by and see me today! Have a super Sunday! 🙂

  1. This card came out very nice. Lot of techniques. Nice idea to come up with (what color you haven’t used in a while) for an inspiration.
    🙂

    1. Thank you Nancy! Yes, lots of techniques, but fun ones! I like to look and see what I haven’t used in a while! 🙂

  2. Hi Justin! Another wonderful creation from you! I love melon mambo and I love how you paired it with the brushed gold. So pretty! Love your wink of Stella…I must add that to my list (which is growing larger each day!) Have a great time with Kim in the city today. How fun to check out the new digs. Hope you do get us some before’s and after’s! Gonna be another gorgeous day here today, the last two have been just glorius. Enjoy yours!

    1. Hello Karen!
Thank you! I’m not a huge Melon Mambo fan but I needed a bright card and that definitely fits the bill! I love that Wink of Stella! I had the best time with Kim and her new apartment is great! So happy that you are having nice weather! 🙂

  3. Oh just me again—I have been meaning to tell you this Justin—do you ever just take a look at your Instagram photos and just look at all of your beautiful cards? If you haven’t, you should. Just take them all in! You are very talented!

    1. Hello again Karen! Thank you so much for saying that! It really means a lot to me and I will take a look! 🙂

  4. Hi Justin
Everything looks great together- I love Melon Mambo- I use it a lot. The hint of glitter is a nice touch, sometimes it can be too heavy but perfect on this card.
Smokee’s eye is healing, still has a little way to go but the vet says he should have a full recovery- yippee !
    Have fun in Manhattan today.

    1. Hello Marty!
Thank you so much! I tend to go with more subtle colors but I like the gold on top of it and the vellum!
I’m glad that Smokee is doing well. They become such a pert of our lives! Manhattan was great as always! 🙂

  5. Good Morning Justin:

I had never heard of Wink of Stella before but I love the look it gives the flowers. I’ll have to investigate that a bit further. Seeing as my friends call me the “Queen of Bling” I really MUST have anything I can use to add some bling to a project! LOL Also, you are truly inspiring me to get out the dang vellum and actually do something with it instead of just filling a folder in the file cabinet! As I checked out my stash of vellum I also found that I have a ton of shrink paper that I need to start using to make embellishments. It’s strange but when I worked full time I seemed to get so much more done than I do in retirement……….go figure!

Have fun with Kim today. Moving can be such a hassle and yet it’s so exciting to have a new place. It offers a great opportunity to get rid of all that “stuff” that you wonder why you hung onto and also a reason to go out shopping for those “must haves” for the new place. Hope the weather is better there than it is here. We had more of the “S” word last night – just enough to be a pain in the neck. No sunshine and back to the cold. Will spend the afternoon watching the race and chomping on goodies I shouldn’t be eating. LOL Hugs to you my friend! 🙂

    1. Hi there Grace!
I love the Wink of Stella, especially the clear glitter one! I would definitely think that you would need to add it to your arsenal! You need to get out the vellum! I have some shrink paper, maybe I will give that a try! We are so busy with so many other things, trust me I know!
The city was great, it’s been a while since I have just been in to see only Kim and we had a nice day! I told her that she needs to make sure that she purges some stuff! We will have getting the new furniture! It was overcast and a bit windy but not too bad. I hope that you too enjoyed your Sunday! XOXO 🙂

  6. Cute…cute…cute. I love that velum paper and the matching stamp set is perfection. Of course I had to get both. The Wink of Stella glitter pen is the BEST I have ever used. I was a fan of Atyou Spica, but this one cant compare!

I just came home from watching my son run the Cary Half Marathon, hes bummed because he came in second place, LOL He developed a leg cramp in mile two andhad an aweful run, in his opinion Me… I dont run and never will especially with a leg cramp.

OMG you are sich a terrible influence! I read your post a while back about MISTI, I had no clue what that was , I thought you found a new tech toy, WOW I was impressed. I thought it was pricy but I had to have it. OMG it came in yesterday and it is fantastic! I love it, perfection in stamping. Worth every penny. Take care and enjoy your Sunday

    1. Thanks so much Linda! I too love that vellum, imagine that?! Wink of Stella is amazing, love that it doesn’t come off!
Second place!! That’s great! I too never run, unless someone is chasing me with a weapon, then I might make an exception!
Yay! I’m so glad that you got a MISTI! It’s going to be great for making swaps!! Smart lady that thought of it, wish I had! Hope you had a nice day! 🙂

  7. Hi Justin, just a quick one this morning (I’m running late!!) cute card! I love melon mambo too! Enjoy your Manhattan trip, it’s Monday here so I’ll be at work *sigh 😉 Cheers Justin xoxo

    1. Thanks Kelly! Don’t you just love running late?! It ruins my morning for sure! Hope that you had a good day! XOXO 🙂

  8. Another gorgeous card Justin! How do you do it?? I loved seeing how you made the butterfly and the flower pop there with the watercolor paper. They came out so beautifully 🙂 I hadn’t heard of the Misti either before hearing of it on your blog. Now I really want one too. How are you liking it? Hope you had a gorgeous day today! *Thanks for sending some of the breezes back, lol 😉

    1. Thanks very much Jill! I like that the stamp set matches the vellum perfectly and I really am liking the watercoloring! The MISTI is great! I’m enjoying it and can’t wait to use it for swaps! My day in the city was fun! Glad that you got the breezes! 🙂
