Paper Players 236 & Manhattan

Yup, there goes another weekend! It was a good one despite the speed at which it moves. I headed into Manhattan yesterday on the 9:11am train and got to Kim’s around 10:45. We went out to the diner for a little late breakfast, I had some whole wheat pancakes and turkey sausage that was quite good! After the diner we wandered down to 86th Street and I ran into Staples and BestBuy. I picked up a new pair of Bluetooth Headphones, the ones that I have don’t last long enough! We stopped at Starbucks and had some coffee and then headed over to 63rd and First Avenue to see the future digs! I really like the apartment a lot! It’s definitely bigger and much more updated than her current one. There is a dishwasher in the kitchen!! What I wouldn’t do for a dishwasher! But the best part has to be the rooftop deck! It’s open all the time so we went up to see the view and what a view it is! I took a few pictures!

Can you see the 59th Street Bridge in the middle? How neat is that?!

Kim NA 2

Way over in the back to the left is the Chrysler Building and in the middle is the Citibank Building! Not a bad view at all! I told Kim that I would be spending my summer weekends on the rooftop deck!

I’ll have some pictures of the inside of the apartment once the current owners get the rest of their furniture out of there. I’m looking forward to getting to the decorating part!

Well, since it’s Monday I have my Paper Players card for this week’s challenge…

Paper Players #236

Lately it seems that Forever Florals has been my go to flower set! The card base for today is a piece of Whisper White Card Stock. My background is a piece of Smoky Slate that I stamped in Smoky Slate with the Hardwood Background Stamp. I then used the Lawn Fawn Small Stitched Rectangles to cut out the panel and adhered it to the base with SNAIL. The greeting is from the Hi There Stamp Set and is heat embossed in Blushing Bride Stampin’ Emboss Powder on a piece of Vellum. The Lawn Fawn Large Stitched Rectangles cut it out and some 2-Way Glue adheres it to the wood panel. My flower is from the Forever Florals Stamp Set and is heat embossed on Blushing Bride with White Stampin’ Emboss Powder and cut out with my Paper Snips. Some Stampin’ Dimensionals hold it in place. What’s one of my cards lately without a little sprinkling of sequins?! LOL! So there you have my card for this week’s Paper Players challenge from Ann. I hope that you enjoyed the card and the pictures from my future rooftop hang out! Thank you very much for your visit and have a magnificent Monday! 🙂

  2. Hi Justin! Love seeing your pics of the city. Takes me back to fun times oh-so many years ago! I only visited a few times but always had such a good time. That is an awesome view! I would be up there in summer time too! Maybe sippin’ a cocktail and listening to some good music! I love your card Justin! The pink and grey look so good together and the softness of the vellum is perfect! I’m in awe of your paper-snipping! Have a great day, we are headed for the 70’s! Bring it on! 😉

    1. Hey Karen!
Thanks, I’m so happy that I get to share them with all of you! It really is a nice view, I can’t wait to sit up there in the summer with a nice glass of wine! Glad that you like the card too! I really do like that Smoky Slate, it goes so well with so many colors! You know how I love some fussy cutting! Hope that you enjoyed your weather! 🙂

  3. Hi Justin,
I love today’s card and colour combination with the background in smokey slate. The photo’s from the rooftop are amazing and I love the views. I think that spending your weekends in summer there is a great idea and Kim could hold a fun New Year’s part there!
I picked up my goodies from SU on Saturday at my friend Sarah’s and love the Adventure Abound DSP. I can see some being used with old photo’s of my travels!
    Have a good day,
    Michelle xo

    1. Hello Michelle!
Thank you! The card was fun and the rooftop was great! YES! That would be a great place to have a New Year’s party!!
The Adventure Bound DSP is still one of my favorites! It would work so well with photos!
I hope that you had a great day! XOXO 🙂

  4. Hi Justin- great Manhattan blog as usual. Wow the things you take for granted- didn’t realize that dishwashers aren’t standard everywhere. I guess that explains why you eat out so much! I love the pictures and descriptions.
I just got this stamp set and love it- very versatile and really fun to emboss and color.
Have a good start to your work week!

    1. Hello Marty!
Thanks! I know how you love some city pics! It’s not the norm to have a dishwasher in a NY studio apartment. I have never had a dishwasher and I want one! LOL! I think that is one of my favorite floral stamp sets ever! My Monday was pretty good and I hope that yours was too! 🙂

  5. So tell me Justin – when you got up to the rooftop and saw the 59th street bridge did you start singing Paul Simon’s Feelin’ Groovy or what? LOL Quite the view for sure. I’ve looked at apartments in Manhattan and honestly cannot see how anyone can afford the outrageous rents! I hope Kim loves her new place and I would also get excited about decorating it. A new place is a lot of work but it sure is a lot of fun too.

Your card is fab as always. So let me get this straight – first you stamped and heat embossed the greeting and then you ran it though the Big Shot and cut it out? That didn’t mess up the embossing? I usually cut my pieces out first if I’m going to emboss them but it would be so much easier to do it your way. I always thought that putting it through the pressure of the Big Shot would mess it up or flatten it out or something. See I learn something new from you every day! 🙂

Have yourself a marvelous Monday! Hugs – XXXOOO

    1. LOLOL! I actually hummed NY State of Mind! It’s a great view of the city, you can see so much! Kim is actually buying her apartment, it’s insanely expensive but she loves to be in the city! It’s going to be a lot of fun to decorate! I can’t wait!
Thank you! Yes, I always stamp first and then run it through the Big Shot. The top part of the die usually protects the embossing. I’m so happy that I get to teach you new things!
My Monday was good, hope that yours was too! XOXOXOXO 🙂

  6. Oooh cool view! You both are going to have a blast up there 😉

Really love your card today, the colors are so beautiful! The Smokey Slate really compliments the Blushing Bride. Awesome fussy cutting of the flower, you have some patience! The vellum “hello” panel came out awesome. And your sequins are so, so pretty! You are making me want sequins of all colors and sizes, lol 😉

    1. Yes Jill, it’s a great view! Can;t wait for the summer!
Thank you so much! I do love the Blushing Bride with the Smoky Slate, nice and soft. I really enjoy fussy cutting, I know, I’m a little nuts! I think that the sequins help balance the card and I am trying to get them in every color! LOL! 🙂

  7. Hey Justin, love those rooftop photos!! Kim is a lucky girl, it will be beautiful sitting out there on warm nights 🙂 Do you have mosquitos, or is that just an Aussie thing? A warm night outside usually results in lots of itchy bites over here! I seriously cannot wait to see the before and after pics, to see what you do with the apartment – no pressure, lol! I’m sure it’ll be awesome! Today’s card is stunning, so pretty! Love the colours and again, those sequins are perfect 🙂 I’m going to sign off now and Google those stitched rectangles! Have a fantastic day Justin XOXO

    1. Hello Kelly!
Thanks, the roof was so cool! Not many apartment have rooftop access, Kim is very lucky! Yes, we have mosquitos, more out on the Island where I live but they have them in the city too. I am so looking forward to decorating the apartment! It’s going to so much fun!! I’m glad that you enjoyed the card too! The stitched rectangles are just neat, I can’t get enough of them! Had a great Monday hope that you have a wonderful Tuesday! XOXO 🙂

    1. Thank you Linda! There will be plenty more rooftop pics I’m sure! Happy that you like the card too! Yes, give the embossing on vellum a try, it’s quite addicting! The weekends always fly by but someone told me that if they didn’t we wouldn’t look as forward to them as we do! Glad that the temps are up for you and you must be thrilled to have your twins home! 🙂
