Can You Case It #69

Why oh why must the weekend speed by so quickly?! I guess it’s true what they say… time sure does fly when you are having fun and that’s just what I had yesterday! I woke up a little late as you know, puttered around in the craft room for a bit, spoke to Andrea and then Taylor stopped by. Sue came and picked me up for lunch around 12:40 and we went to a deli in Seaford called Sequa for lunch. I had a panini that was really good and a bag of wasabi ginger potato chips that were delicious! We stopped at AC Moore on the way back to my house and I got some more Washi Tape (like I need that!) and a few more goodies. Back at my house I showed her the page that I did and the cards for this month’s class at Scrap-A-Latte. We looked at a few things on-line and then chatted for a while. She left around 5:30 and I went back into the Stampin’ Galley to work on my card for today’s challenge. I had gotten some new dies from Memory Box and Impression Obsession and wanted to play with them but when I finished the card I didn’t love it so I made another one! I’ll post both of them and you can let me know which one you prefer!

So, off to today’s card which is for this week’s Can You Case It sketch challenge…

CYCI #69

The second card that I made has the usual for a base. I used some Antique Paper Distress Ink to dirty up the sides. The background is a piece of Crumb Cake and on the top part I adhered a piece of paper from the Typeset Specialty Designer Series Paper. The two tickets are from the That’s the Ticket Stamp Set and are stamped in Memento Tuxedo Black on Very Vanilla and also distressed. I adhered them to the card with SNAIL. My strip across the card is a piece of Washi Tape that I got from Michaels a while ago, I adhered it to a piece of Whisper White and then to the card with some Foam Tape. The greeting is something that I saw on-line a few days ago and really liked so I downloaded a vintage typewriter font on the Mac and printed it out a piece of card stock. It’s trimmed and then I used the “Vintage” Ticket Corner Punch to punch the corners. Some more Antique Paper Distress Ink and a piece of Fun Foam behind it with some adhesive holds it to the card. I love that quote so much, I think that it’s very true!

CYCI #69 Card 1-WM

The other card that I made also uses the usual base! The rectangle I used is from the Simon Says Stamp Bundle of Stitched Shapes and cuts out a piece of Soft Sky, I adhered some Fun Foam to the back and then adhered it to the card. I cut out the birch trees from Whisper White and the cardinals from Real Red with the Impression Obsession Birch Trees Dies and adhered them to the card with 2-Way Glue, the cardinals are popped up on some Foam Tape. My XOXOXO is also cut out from Whisper White with the Simon Says Stamp XOXO Border Die and backed with a piece of Blushing Bride. For the hearts I used the Memory Box Stitched Hearts Layers Dies. The large heart is cut form Real Red and the small one from Red Glimmer Paper, they are adhered to the card with Foam Tape. My Love is also cut from Real Red using the Simon Says Stamp Small Love You Dies and adhered to the card with 2-Way Glue. Finally, some Pretty Pink Posh Sparkling Clear Sequins are adhered to the card with Crystal Effects. I do love the birch trees, thought I think that they would be more fitting on a holiday card!

  1. I like the tree and cardinal card better.
You always talks about eating out at some amazing places. Wondering if you ever bring those ideas home and cook?

    1. Thank you Katie! I like the card too but I like the sentiment on the first card! I do go to some great places to eat but it’s just me so I rarely cook. I used to cook all the time. Maybe I’ll get the chance to start again! 🙂

  2. LOL, YES! We always need more wash tape, Memory Box dies, Simon Says stuff etc. I sold alot of stuff at a garage sale a few weeks ago, got my gift cards and bought new goodies immediately. Have to consistently replace goodies.

Love your first card, simple yet I love that Memory Box die, use it quite ofte. I agree its more winterish. Off to Michigan State for sons graduation. Two kids down, two kids left!

    1. Ha ha! You can never have enough Washi Tape, I’m glad that you agree Linda! I love the Memory Box and Simon stuff that I got. I need to think about selling some of my stuff too, so hard to part with them, they are like old friends! LOL! Glad that you enjoyed both of the cards! I hope that you had a nice time at the graduation!! 🙂

  3. Good Morning Justin:

I think both cards are super but, since Cardinals are my absolute favorite bird (even though they are a bit pushy in temperament) I favor the second card. I have never seen that birch tree die so I’ll have to take a look at that! Is that one die for the group or one die cut multiple times? I also need to get some dies that make a hilly background. How do you store you thinlits and other dies Justin? I go to Home Depot or Lowe’s and buy magnetic vent covers (very cheap). They are easy to cut to size with my paper cutter and I cut them to fit into CD cases. Then I just mount the dies on the magnetic sheet and close the case and label the end of it. The magnetic sheets are 15″ X 8″ and come in a pack of three for $5.00! Can’t beat that. Oops, I digress……

The first card is really cool. I love the way you put the tickets under the Washi tape. I too have seen that Washi tape at Michael’s and was tempted but managed to get out of the store before I spent too much. LOL

Both of today’s cards are really great and you did a terrific job. Thanks so much for sharing your talents with us.

Late night last night. I didn’t get to bed until after 1 a.m. The race was in Kansas and started at 7 but they had a two hour rain delay a little less than half way through the race. I’m glad we stayed up to watch it though as my favorite driver won and it was a very exciting finish. Our house gets a little bit loud when the finishes are so close. LOL No special plans today. I will celebrate Mother’s Day next Sunday when I am with my girls.

You have a Super Sunday and do something very, very special with your Mum. Love & Hugs XO 🙂

    1. Hello Grace!
Thank you! I do like Cardinals too but I love those Birch Trees! I didn’t know that Cardinals were pushy! The Birch Trees are three dies in one package. I like either the Simon Says Stamp of Lawn Fawn Hills. I actually used the Simon Says Stamp Pockets and Michaels 100lb Card Stock with Ellen Hutson Magnetic Sheets to store my stamps and dies, just like Jennifer McGuire! I’ll have to look into the vent magnets though! Thanks!
I love the sentiment on the first card, it’s so true! I have way too much Washi Tape but I have been using it a lot more so it’s all good, right?!?!
I went to bed really late all weekend and woke up really late this morning. I hate that! I’m glad that your favorite driver won the race!! I’m glad that you had a relaxing day!
I didn’t really get to see my mum, my brother kidnapped her! Oh well, every day is Mother’s Day right?!?! Happy Mother’s Day from me to you!! XOXOXOXOXOXO 🙂

  4. Both great cards but since Cardinals are my favorite birds and since I love love love birds, I’m going to vote for the second card. I really love that you made it so perfect with the X’s and O’s for a card for anyone that you love. This would be a perfect Valentine’s card to my Hubby! 🙂

  5. Happy Mother’s Day, you all! Two such different cards! I love the colors and washi tape on the first card. I really love the birch tree die on the second card. I am assuming that the cardinals come with the birch tree die. Love them! Have a great day everyone! Nancy B

    1. Thank you so much Nancy! Yes, the cardinals come with the trees! I hope that you had a great day! 🙂

  6. I just don’t know where to start. The CYCI card at the top just rocks!!! And I love love love the phrase. I just would have layered it on a piece of black…but that is me. The card with the birch trees (I typed birth 3 times) is just absolutely beautiful. I just think it needs some stickles on the XO. hehe

And, since you did not use even 1 sequin on the top card, I wonder if you are having a nervous breakdown and should we be calling 911??

    haha

    1. Yay! Thank you Michael! The quote is one of my favorites and so true! I thought that since the edges were inked I didn’t need the black but I can see where it would have worked. Ha ha! You must have typed birth because of your card!! LOL! Ahh yes, I did forget the tickles didn’t I?!?!
I had sequins on the second car, no need to worry! LOL! 🙂

  7. Hi Justin,
Both cards are great! It’s hard to chose a favorite because they are so different (does that make sense?). I love the sentiment on the first and the neutral colors. I also love the birds (my favorite) and the birch trees. Just love the look of those die cut trees!!! Sorry – can’t chose.

    1. Hey Gerri!
Thank you! Yes, they are really different so I understand what you are saying! The sentiment is so great and the birch trees are one of my favorite things! 🙂
