Freshly Made Sketches 185

You know when you have one of those days, the ones that seem a lot longer than a regular day? That was my Wednesday. It was dreary and rainy for most of the day, well, drizzly. Work was a little on the crazy side. Lots of running around and I can prove that because my Apple Watch tells me that I walked 5 miles! Under normal circumstances I would say that being busy makes the day move along but that wasn’t the case. I came home, had some dinner and spoke to Andrea for a bit and then started to work on my project. I also FaceTimed with Michael for a while, that is always a nice way to end the day. Before I knew it it was 11:00 and I still had a bunch of blog stuff to do. So wait, did the day move fast or slow?! Let’s just say that it was an unusual day! Tonight I’m accompanying my friend Marissa to the LI-LGBT Network Gala. The company that I work for is a sponsor. I’ll try to get some pictures of us all dressed up, it should be lots of fun!

My card for today is for this week’s Freshly Made Sketches challenge. I want to thank Kim for choosing me as her King of Clean for her sketch challenge from last week! You can see the winners post HERE and my original post HERE. Now a look at this week’s sketch…

Freshly Made Sketches 185

I received a package in the mail yesterday with some more crafty goodies inside so I had to use at least one of them on today’s card! The base is the usual! For my background I heat embossed the Hardwood Background Stamp on a piece of Whisper White using some Ranger Silver Pearl Embossing Powder (the new goodie!). It’s mounted to the card with SNAIL and Fun Foam. My two flagged strips are pieces of paper from the Stacked with Love Designer Series Paper Stack. I used the Lawn Fawn Large and Small Stitched Rectangles to cut out a piece of Basic Black to serve as a frame for some Vellum. It’s adhered to the card with Foam Tape. A piece of Daffodil Delight is cut out with the Simon Says Stamp Hello Die and heat embossed with Simon Says Stamp Clear Fine Detail Embossing Powder. Some 2-Way Glue adheres it to the card. I really love that Silver Pearl Embossing Powder and I think that it looks so cool with the Hardwood Stamp on White! I hope that you enjoyed my card for this week’s Freshly Made Sketches challenge! Thanks for stopping by an enjoy your Thursday! 🙂

  1. Wow! That silver pearl embossing powder really does make the hardwood pop! Love it! The Hello shines too. How do you ink diecuts up to emboss them? Thanks for sharing your creative talents with us!

    1. Thank you Susan! Love that Silver Pearl EP! I just attach a little piece of scrap, smoosh the Versa-Mark Pad on it and then dip it in the embossing powder and repeat if necessary! 🙂

  2. Hi Justin,
I LOVE this card!!! Love the way you used the vellum in the frame over the Stacked with Love dsp! And that pearl embossing powder is awesome with the hardwood stamp on white! LOVE!!!!

Oh and BTW, the watch is a pedometer too?? That thing is so cool.

    1. Hey Gerri!
Thank you so much! Yes, I am really happy that I got that Silver Pearl EP! Yes, the watch tracks your steps and reminds you to stand up and also does your heart rate! Love my Apple Watch! 🙂

  3. Hi Justin:

What an absolutely fabulous masculine card! I too was very impressed with the effect the pearl embossing is in conjunction with the hardwood stamp. I have a technical question………..do you emboss a sheet of paper and then make the word die cut or do you die cut the word and them emboss it? Kind of like which came first, the chicken or the egg? LOL Also, how many times did you emboss the word hello in order to make it look so dimensional? I really do envy how you manage to put the glue on the word back and perfectly place it on the vellum without getting any glue in places it shouldn’t be! Neato (you can take that literally if you choose)! Ignore me this morning, I’m in kind of a goofy mood. You have yourself a Totally Wonderful Thursday and enjoy the gala this evening. Hugs from warm, sunny Maine! XO 🙂

    1. Hello Grace!
Thank you! I die cut the word and then emboss it! Today’s one was embossed twice. I also use Clear Fine Detail on thin words and Ultra Thick on thicker ones. Hope that helps! Little teeny tiny dots of glue! LOL! I think that a goofy mood is necessary every once in a while! I had a great Thursday and it’s Friday so woot woot! XOXOXP 🙂

  4. Another fabulous card Justin! I agree, that embossing powder looks great on the whisper white!

  5. Hey Justin, love this card! The embossing powder is so amazing, looks beautiful! And I love the colour scheme too 🙂 Sorry you had a crappy day at work, I hate those – I hope your Thursday was much better! I ordered a coffee machine yesterday, we had one at my old work place, and I have missed it since I quit a month ago, so I decided to treat myself for Mother’s Day and my birthday (which isn’t actually for another couple of months, lol!) Cheers Justin 🙂 xoxo

    1. Hello Kelly!
Thanks! I do love grays with a little yellow! Brightens things up! We all have the occasional crap day at work, it passes! What kind of coffee machine did you get?! I have a Keurig and love it! You need to treat yourself to something every once in a while! Hope that you had a nice Friday! XOXO 🙂

  6. Congrats on your win!!! I LOVE the siver pearl embossing powder, it shows the beauty of this stamp. Great creation. well today was my Friday, 3 day weekend, yes, it will go by quick. Heading up to MIchigan State for my sons graduation

    1. Thank you very much Linda! I too am loving that silver pearl EP! I wish that I had off today! The gala ran last and I did’t get home until 11:00. I finally made it to bed at 12:30. I’m a little tired this morning! Have a safe trip and congrats to your son! 🙂

  7. Another great card Justin. I always enjoy looking at your take on things! Using the vellum to create a window really added a point of difference – very clever.

  8. Great card Justin! I love that embossed wood grain background! Love the “hello”! Such a great mix of textures and colours! Thanks for joining us this week at Freshly Made Sketches!

    1. Thank you very much Jen! The woodgrain stamp is my fave and in that EP it’s fantastic! So glad that you enjoyed the card! Have a fabulous weekend! 🙂
