Freshly Made Sketches 194

Hello peeps! What a great day we had in Manhattan yesterday! Michael and I met up with Kim and Angie at her old apartment around 9:15 and then headed over to the diner for some breakfast. After that we hopped into a cab and went down to the new apartment. Kim said that the movers finished the entire move in three hours on Friday, that’s pretty fast! Michael and I put the bookcase back together, we did have to run out to Home Depot to get a bit, but it was done in no time! We stopped at Baker Street for a yummy lunch and after that we headed over to Bed, Bath & Beyond to pick up some necessities. I got a text from my friend Isabella to stop by for tea so Michael and I went over to her apartment. We had a nice chat, Michael and Isabella talked about the art in Brasil and Argentina. From there we went back to meet Kim and Angie to go back uptown to get my car and headed over to see Bev and Jason on the West Side. After a nice visit with them Michael and I headed back out to the Island. What a great way to spend a Saturday!

Here are some pictures from the roof deck of my friend Kim’s new apartment…

KD Apt Bridge

You can see the 59th Street Bridge through the buildings!

KD Apt Tram

If you look closely there is the tram to Roosevelt Island in the middle of the picture.

KD Apt Citi

And off in the distance is the top of the Citibank Building!

Today I have a quick card for this week’s Freshly Made Sketches challenge…

Freshly Made Sketches 194

I wanted to do a little inking with some of the new Tim Holtz Distress colors so I created a simple birthday card. The base is Neenah Solar White 110lb Card Stock. I used a Tim Holtz Mini Ink Blending Tool and some Cracked Pistachio and Mermaid Lagoon on two pieces of Neenah Solar White 80lb. They are then cut out with the Lawn Fawn Party Balloons Lawn Cuts. I also used the dies to cut some Black Card Stock for the balloon strings. My sentiment is from the Simon Says Stamp Handwritten Borders Photopolymer Stamp Set and is stamped in Memento Tuxedo Black. The balloons are adhered to the card with SNAIL and Foam Tape, the strings with 2-Way Glue. A fun simple birthday card, I love the way the blended ink gives the balloons some cool texture! I hope that you enjoyed my card for this week’s Freshly Made Sketches challenge. I always appreciate you stopping by to share in my day and I wish you a stupendous Sunday! 🙂

  1. Great card, Justin. Quick design for a last minute card and who doesn’t need those? Great pics today of Manhattan skyline.

    1. Thanks so much HJ! We definitely need quick cards! Glad that you enjoyed the pictures too! 🙂

  2. Love the pictures you took from the roof top . Sounds like a fun and full day yesterday .
I like your card today with it`s adorable balloons . Also it seems I am always a step behind on Tim`s new colors and they are always so pretty .
Have a great Sunday (btw …loved yesterday`s card too)

    1. Thank you Sonny! It was a wonderful Saturday! Glad that you enjoyed my simple card too! Tim’s new colors are fun! Thank you!! 🙂

  3. What a full day! I did not know anything about a tram! Have you ever been on it? Kim’s view is great. Much health and happiness to her in her new place.
We are hosting the Baseball All Star game here in Cincinnati and they built a zip line as one of the activities. I thought of you and Brian in Atlanta! Of course, yours was spectacular; here it just goes over town a short way. It still looks like fun.
I have been loving your cards as usual, especially the combination of Mermaid Lagoon and Cracked Pistachio. What fun names! What a job to sit around and create names for colors!
Hubby is coming home from Green Bay today, heading for NC next week, San Francisco after that, and I get to stay home with the dog and clean and stamp–not too terrible. Lots of rain here…
Have a glorious Sunday! Nancy B

    1. Yes, a very full but really great day! I have never been on the Tram but I will put it on my list for sure! I’ll pass along your wishes to Kim!
Oh, I love to ZipLine! I’m sure that it’s good fun! I want to do that again!
Thank you! I would love to get paid to come up with product names! What a great job indeed!
Sounds like you are going to have a fun week! Nice and relaxing! Hopefully the rain will end soon! I hope that you had a nice day! 🙂

  4. Good Morning Justin:

I love the simplicity of this card. Sometimes I think it’s harder to create a CAS card than any other. Your card today is fabulous and just goes to show that sometimes less is more. The colors are beautiful and really complement each other. Super job Justin.

I get tired just reading about all you do in a single day. AND, really? They have Home Depot in Manhattan? The photos were great and thank you so much for sharing them. I just can’t imagine how anyone could love living in such a crowded city. Don’t get me wrong, I really do love going to Manhattan because there is so much to see and do and the cultural climate cannot be matched however, I love the peace and quiet of rural America more. LOL

You have yourself a Superb Sunday and enjoy this weather. Oh, by the way, was it miserable hot in Manhattan like it was here in Maine yesterday? Luv and hugs, XO 🙂

    1. Hello Grace!
Thank you! I need to do more simple cards! They are especially handy when you are pressed for time! I agree with you, I find it easier to make a card with 20 things than with 2!
LOL! I really did have the best day on Saturday! I was with people that I love and that makes all the difference! Yup, there is a Home Depot in the city, right near Bloomingdales! I could live in the city, yes, it’s busy but everything is right there or just a subway or cab ride away! I also enjoy the country and the quiet too!
My Sunday was a little dull, but then Saturday was a hard day to top! It wasn’t miserable hot, it wasn’t cool either! I enjoy the heat though! Love from me!! XOXOXO 🙂

  5. I like the stamp font with the balloon strings! So glad you had such a great day in NYC.
    🙂

    1. I did have an excellent day Cindy! Yes, Kim does have a nice view, love all of the roof decks on the other buildings! Everyone needs to come to NY at least once!
Thanks! Nice and simple, sometimes we need those kind of cards!
I hope that you have an excellent week! 🙂

  7. Hi Justin,
You sure are having a good time this weekend. Good for you!
    Perfect CAS birthday card.

    1. Hello Gerri!
I did have a lovely weekend! I hope that you did too!
      Thanks! 🙂

  8. What a busy but fun filled day! Love Tim Holtz new colors, I really need more inks, LOL Great card, simple yet gets the message across

    1. Yes, it was an awesome day Linda! LOL! Yes, I need more inks too! NOT! Thank you! Simple can be fun! 🙂

  9. Hey Justin, what a gorgeous view Kim has from her apartment – she’s a lucky girl! Sounds like you have friends all over the city! At least you’re never bored, lol. Its Monday morning here, and we just had a COLD and rainy weekend, my activities included pinterest and HGTV on youtube! I am considering swapping our dining table for my stamping desk and supplies, because having everything out in the shed (even though its a beautiful room) means I am just not stamping at all. I even BOUGHT a birthday card for my father-in-law – oh the shame -_- My husband said he didn’t have a problem with it, and we don’t ever use the dining table. We’ll see… Anyway, I love your card today, the sentiment is very cute, and it’s a great card for anyone, of any age! I hope your Sunday is fantastic – I love hearing all about your adventures!! Cheers Justin 🙂 xoxo

    1. Hello Kelly!
Yes, Kim has a great view! I’m lucky that I get to share it! I do have peeps all over Manhattan! That’s the problem, I was bored yesterday! Too much fun on Saturday! LOL! Sounds like you had a nice relaxing weekend! GASP!! You bought a card!! That’s not allowed!! LOL! I haven’t bought a card in 4 years! I think that you should bring your supplies inside!! I like that my craft space it right there! Thanks! It is a very generic card! I’m so glad that I get to share all of my adventures with you! Have a good week! XOXOXO 🙂

  10. Fabulous take on the sketch! Love these colors together and the balloons are so cool. Thanks so much for joining us at Freshly Made Sketches.

  11. Wow – what a view!! I bet it’s stunning at night!!

I love your two balloons. It’s simple – but truly celebratory – and really highlights the fun look of the sentiment. Thank you for playing along with us at Freshly Made Sketches.

    1. Yes! I love the view and I can’t wait to see it at night!
Thank you! We need simple, I’ve been trying to concentrate on simple lately! Enjoy the rest of your week! 🙂
