Pals Paper Arts 261 & Manhattan!

Hello there and a happy Sunday to you! I did get my backpack yesterday, it was a joint effort between Andrew and Taylor! Taylor was nice enough to take the train in and drop it off to me! Maggie and I met her at Penn Station and then from there we stopped back at The Ink Pad and dropped it off before heading downtown. I have not been to the 9-11 site in a few years and have never been to the reflection pools. I cannot tell you the overwhelming feeling of sadness that I experienced while Maggie and I were there. The new tower is beautiful and so is the rest of the site, it’s a nice tribute to all of the innocent people that lost their lives because of someone else’s hatred.

We had walked down so we took the Subway back up to The Ink Pad and met up with Michael. The High Line is nearby so we walked along that for a bit, I haveΒ some amazing pictures from there and will share those with you tomorrow. After, we had dinner with Michael and then Maggie and I headed up to meet my friend Kim at Bev and Jason’s apartment. From there we took a cab back down to Kim’s. Before we turned in for the evening we spent a little time on the roof deck. Some more cool pictures and I’ll share those later in the week. Today, Maggie and I will head down to The Ink Pad and meet up with Michael. I’m working in the store with him today and my Maggie will head to the airport, she goes back to Cali in the afternoon. A very busy but amazing day!

Today’s card is for this week’s Pals Paper Arts sketch challenge…

Pals Paper Arts 261

I really liked the Lawn Fawn set that I used for last month’s card class so I thought I would break it out again! My card base is Neenah Solar White 110lb Card Stock with the front covered in a piece of Basic Black. I used the We R Memory Keepers Next Level 3D Gemstone Embossing Folder for the background and adhered it to the card with Fun Foam some SNAIL and a little Multi-Purpose Glue. I stamped all of the images from the Lawn Fawn Happy Wedding Photopolymer Stamp Set in Memento Tuxedo Black and colored them in with Copics. They are cut out with the matching Happy Wedding Lawn Cuts Dies and adhered to pieces of Basic Black that were cut out with the Lawn Fawn Small and Large Stitched Circles Lawn Cuts. The circles are then adhered to the card with Foam Tape. MyΒ greeting is from the same set and is heat embossed in White Hero Arts Embossing Powder on Basic Black and also adhered to the card with Foam Tape. It really is a cute little set and I love those 3D Embossing Folders! I hope that you enjoyed my card for this week’s Pals Paper Arts sketch challenge along with pictures from my day yesterday! Thank you very much for coming by and I hope that you have super Sunday! πŸ™‚

  1. Hi Justin,
Beautiful pics of the reflecting pools. I have not been able to bring myself to visit that spot. I think the next time I am in the city, I will. I have wanted to walk the high line. Once the weather cools, I think I’ll do that too.
Your card is so cute. Love those embossing folders. Great take on the sketch.

    1. Hello Gerri!
It was very hard to be in that area, we didn’t stay long. I felt so sad while I was there. The High-Line is so great! I love that and think it’s a great use of the old tracks! Glad that you enjoyed the card too! πŸ™‚

  2. Hi Justin, How exciting everything is! Your 9-11 photos are great. I have never been there, nor do I think I ever will. I enjoyed the photos, and at least feel a little connected. I am so happy for your past few days, being off work and relaxing with friends. You sure did pack in a lot of good times. About your card . . . I love the black and white contrast and the textures. Very nice! Enjoy your Sunday, too.

    1. Hello Nancy!
I’m glad that you enjoyed the pictures! It was definitely an experience being there, just very sad. I had such a great weekend with my peeps I didn’t want it to end! I’m glad that you enjoyed the card! My Sunday was super and I hope that yours was too! πŸ™‚

  3. Good Morning Justin:

When at the reflecting pools did you notice the footprints going down the side, across the bottom and into the hole? I hadn’t either but it was pointed out to me by my daughter while we were standing there. They symbolize all the firefighters that went into the building and never made it out and are very subtle. She was a volunteer firefighter for several years so is very keen to this type of symbolism. It truly is a moving experience to stand there and reflect on what took place in 2001. Your photos are fantastic. I’m so glad you finally got there to see unbelievably beautiful memorial.

Your card today is gorgeous. AND I love the engagement ring to flowers to wedding cake progression. The EF is just gorgeous and adds so much depth to the card. Just a fabulous and delightful card, perfect for any wedding day.

So glad you are having fun with Maggie and Michael. Too bad she can’t stay a while longer. There is so dang much to see and do in Manhattan that I think if I went every weekend for my entire life I would still never get to see it all. What do you think of F.A.O. Swartz closing? Glad I had my photo taken with the “wooden” soldiers last time I was in the city.

You enjoy every last moment of this long weekend for you. Definitely a ton of fun with some wonderful friends. Have yourself a Superior Sunday. Love and Hugs, XO πŸ™‚

    1. Hi Grace!
I didn’t notice the footprints and am glad that I didn’t. It was very hard to be there and I think that would have pushed me over the edge. I was so sad while I was there. I don’t know if I will go back.
Thank you! I love that EF and the stamp set is just fun! I’m loving the Copics too!
I had the best time with Maggie and Michael! I told her that she has to come back and she said that she would! I always end new things to see and do in Manhattan! You are right, every weekend wouldn’t be enough. I only went to FAO Schwartz a few times, the Apple Store is there now so I’m good! LOL!
I hope that your Sunday was as good as mine! Love you! XOXO πŸ™‚

    1. I can tell you too exactly what I was doing on that day Linda. It was too sad for me to be there, almost like I could feel all of the sadness from the people that lost their lives. You should definitely see it once, I don’t know if I’ll go back though.
Glad that you enjoyed the card!
Isn’t it great to see old friends?! I don’t know what I would do without mine. Hope that you got in some crafty time! πŸ™‚

  6. Hey Justin, your photos are just beautiful! We went to the memorial, it’s stunning and very somber. I wish someone had pointed out the footprints that Grace mentioned, I love how those absolute heroes are honoured, and so they should be!

  8. Such a sweet wedding card! Your coloring is perfect and that embossed background is beautiful! Thanks for playing along again with us this week at Pals Paper Arts.

  9. Just love the pictures of New York. My first visit was way back in November 1979 and I remember standing at the top of the Empire State building with my Godmother who lived in New Jersey. Wow!! was it cold but so beautiful. The new building is also very beautiful but it is so sad that over 3,000 + people had to die for it to be erected. Love your daily site so keep up the good work. Cards are also brilliant and easy accessible. Many thanks, Jessie

    1. Thanks so much Jessie! It’s so great that you can remember your first visit to Manhattan! I have been so many times, I started coming when I was 17! My friend and I used to take the bus and then the Subway to the World Trade Center. I have been to the top of the Empire State Building a few times and the view is just amazing! I will eventually go up in the new building, yes, it’s very sad, almost too sad to be down there. I’m happy that you are along for my journey and glad that you enjoy the blog and the cards! Have a wonderful day! πŸ™‚

  10. Justin, I can hardly concentrate on your wonderful card ~ the emotion of the photos and your description of the 9-11 site is overwhelming. I’ve seen it on TV, but your description and photos are powerful. Thank you.

And, thank you for the great card! That embossing folder is neat, I’ve never seen one like it before. Thanks for sharing your card with us (and your post) at Pals Paper Arts.

    1. Yes, Peggy, it was a very emotional place to visit, just overwhelming sadness is all I felt by the reflecting pools. I’m glad that I got to share it with you.
I love the 3D EF’s! They are really cool! πŸ™‚
