Merry City Shadow Box

It was a busy day at The Ink Pad yesterday! It was also Anna’s Birthday and I didn’t find out until I was standing on the platform waiting for the train! So a belated Happy Birthday to Anna! One of the best parts about hanging out at The Ink Pad is all of the interesting people that you get to meet! I guess I’m a people person because I talk to everyone! I even got to call Grace and let her know that her things that she ordered were ready to ship out! When I got home I had a quick bite to eat and then decided that it was time to get this project out of my head. It took a little longer than I thought it would, about 2 1/2 hours! It was also very hard to photograph! I have been trying since last night to get a good picture and I still don’t love the way it looks. It’s so much cooler in person! It’s my project to share with you today!

Coincidentally, I checked the Paper Players to see what this week’s challenge is and it’s Let it Snow! Well I guess that my project works for that! Yay! Here is this week’s Paper Players challenge badge…

Paper Players #274

I used to do a lot of 3D projects and I haven’t done one in a while. I had an idea for a shadow box using the city scene die and some Acetate so here goes! The base of the box is Neenah Solar White 110lb Card Stock. I cut it to measure 5 1/2″ wide by 11″ long. It’s scored at 1″, 5″, 6″ and 10″. Two more 5″ pieces are scored at 1/4″ and 4 3/4″ or there about! I used the Lawn Fawn Large Stitched Rectangle to cut out the windows in all three of the pieces. The background is a piece of Basic Gray that I cut out using the Lawn Fawn Snowy Backdrops Lawn Cut. My city silhouette is cut from Black 110lb Card Stock using the My Favorite Things Die-namics New York Skyline Die and it’s scored along the bottom at 1/4″ too. The white pieces with the windows cut out have Acetate adhered to the back. On the inside windowΒ I adhered some more White 110lb that I cut out using the Lawn Fawn Small Snowflakes Lawn Cuts using Elmer’s Multi-Purpose Spray Adhesive. The greeting is cut from a piece of Silver Glimmer Paper with the Simon Says Stamp Merry & Bright Die and also adhered with Spray Adhesive to the outside window. To assemble the box I used Scor-Tape on all of the folded edges and adhered them one by one. Trust me, it looks so much cooler in person! I think that I should have either made the city scape lighter or the background! Anyway, I hope that you enjoy today’s project and that you are inspired to try something a little different! Thank you so much for sending some of your Sunday with me! Enjoy the rest of your day! πŸ™‚

  1. What a beautiful skyline scene. Love how you have the Statue of Liberty prominently displayed. It makes me feel that gives this merry card a strong message of freedom and pride.

  3. HI Justin:

I love it, I love it, I love it, I love it! Your card looks fabtastabulous! (not a typo, I couldn’t find a word to describe how much I loved the shadow box so I made one up). I’d like to think I inspired it a bit by making you look at all those amazing NYC stamps yesterday. LOL I don’t think the skyline die cut or the background colors are too dark. I think they are perfect!

So sorry Anna didn’t let anyone know it was her birthday. I’m sure she would have been showered with beautiful handmade cards. Happy belated birthday to you Anna. It was fun talking to you too Justin. I think maybe I had you running back and forth too much in the shop. If I did – good for me (chuckle, chuckle). You have yourself a Super Sunday and keep up the inspirational blog. Love and hugs, XO πŸ™‚
