Paper Players 173

It was absolutely freezing here yesterday and the wind was between 25 and 40 MPH at any given point during the day. BRR! I ran some errands yesterday, finished my bookmarks and got some other crafty projects done. It was just too cold to be outside! I’m glad you enjoyed my little holiday pictures from Manhattan yesterday. There will be plenty more to come in the future. I have to go back and take a picture of the tree once it’s finished. My boss is back from Israel today, I’m sure she’ll be spending most of her day catching up on about 3,000 emails!

The only good thing about Monday is that it’s time for the Paper Players! This week is a shaped card challenge from Jaydee…

Paper Players #173

I don’t know why, but I’m not a huge fan of shaped cards so I decided to keep mine simple. The base for my card is Sahara Sand Card Stock. I used the Large Scallop Edgelit to trim off the bottom of the front of the card and replaced it with some Brushed Gold Card Stock. A few angled snips on each of the top sides and a hole in the middle and voila, we have a tag! I used a piece of Brushed Gold Card Stock cut out with the Festive Flurry Framelits Dies for the base of my images. The ornaments are from last year’s Ornament Keepsakes Stamp Set, which is still available. They are stamped in Bermuda Bay, Pear Pizzazz and Cherry Cobbler, cut out with the Holiday Ornaments Framelits Dies and adhered to the snowflake with Stampin’ Dimensionals. My greeting is a piece of Basic Black cut out with the Expressions Thinlits Dies and adhered to the ornaments with 2-Way Glue. The finishing touch is a piece of Basic Black 3/4″ Chevron Ribbon tied with a piece of Whisper White Baker’s Twine. While I may not be a fan of shaped cards, I do love tags, so I figured that would be a perfect compromise for today’s card. I love the color combination and I think the greeting looks neat in the Basic Black. I hope you enjoyed my take on Jaydee’s shaped card challenge for this week’s Paper Players. As always, thanks so much for taking time out of your day to come check out my blog! 🙂

Pals Paper Arts 180 & Pictures!

First, I want to thank you all for your comments on the framed art projects. Andrew was quite happy to hear that you thought he did a very good job! He wanted me to thank you all to! 🙂

I had a lovely little walk through Manhattan yesterday despite the chilly temperature and occasional wind gusts! I met my friend Kim for lunch at the diner and then we hung around her apartment for a bit. I decided that I would walk down to Penn Station so I could take some pictures for you guys. All in all I ended up walking seven miles yesterday and I was quite happy with that! I did manage to get some neat pictures on my journey. The first one is of the famous Believe sign that hangs on the front of Macy’s in Herald Square. I took this one in the morning  because I think the lights look better in a picture in the daylight.

Macy's Believe Day

Next up are the pictures that I took on my walk down. First I have the star that hangs over Fifth Avenue.

5th Avenue Star

Next up is Cartier which looks like a big present.

Cartier

And finally a picture that not a lot of people get to see, in fact I don’t remember ever seeing the Rockefeller Christmas Tree like this.

Rockefeller Centre Tree Scaffolding

All of the scaffolding so they can put the lights on. Perfect timing by the NYC Taxi whizzing by! LOL!

Now on to today’s post which is for this week’s Pals Paper Arts challenge. This time around we have a sketch…

PPA 180

I liked my colors for Freshly Made Sketches so much this week that I used them again! The base of my card is Basic Gray Card Stock. For the top half of the background I embossed a piece of Pool Party with the Chevron Textured Impressions Embossing Folder and the bottom half is a piece of the I Am Me Designer Series Paper. I stamped the Filmstrip Stamp in Calypso Coral twice and cut them out, some Stampin’ Dimensionals hold them in place. A piece of So Saffron is flagged on the left side and adhered to the filmstrips with SNAIL. The camera images are from the Around the World Stamp Set, stamped in Real Red and Basic Gray and cut out with my Paper Snips. I used the Small Oval Punch to punch out the greeting from the A Dozen Thoughts Stamp Set and that too is held in place by a Stampin’ Dimensional. I love the little cameras and the Filmstrip Stamp is fast becoming a favorite! Thank you very much for taking some time out of your day to come and see my card for this week’s Pals Paper Arts sketch challenge. I hope that you enjoyed my pictures from Manhattan and that you thoroughly enjoy your Sunday!

Just Add Ink 192

Before I even get started with today’s post, I wanted to sincerely say thank you to all of my blog readers who reached out and invited me over for Thanksgiving. It looks like instead of having a movie day, I might be traveling across the country all in a day this year! It really brightened up my day and I definitely have all of you to be thankful for this year!

As far as Fridays go, yesterday was a really good one. I escaped from work at 1 o’clock, came home, had lunch and made a card. Andrew came by, we went out for a really great sushi dinner and then went to Sandy’s and made some framed art for Christmas. Not an easy project by any stretch of the imagination and I have to tell you, I was more than impressed with Andrew’s project. In fact, I have posted both of our projects below. Can you tell which one is mine and which one is Andrew’s? Let me know in the comments. Also remember, he’s only made one card before this!

Today I have my card for the lovely ladies over at Just Add Ink. This week they have given us a color challenge…

JAI Colors 192

I have to admit that when I first saw the colors, I immediately thought of the New York Mets. So to clear that thought of my head, I decided to go with flowers and butterflies. I used Tangerine Tango Card Stock for the base of my card and the background is a piece of Island Indigo that is embossed with the Perfect Polka Dots Textured Impressions Embossing Folder. All of the stamped images are from the Polka-Dot Pieces Stamp Set and are stamped in Tangerine Tango. The flowers are punched out with the 1 3/4″ and 1 1/4″ Scallop Circle Punches, the butterflies are punched out with the Elegant Butterfly Punch and all of the images are adhered to the card with Stampin’ Dimensionals. The greeting comes from the Lots of Thanks Stamp Set and is stamped in Tangerine Tango and it is cut out with one of the elements from the Circle Card Thinlits Die. Not an overly complicated card, but it’s kind of neat what you can do with just one stamp set and a simple greeting. I got past the Mets colors and really enjoyed the way the card came out. Thanks a lot for stopping by to see my card for this week’s Just Add Ink color challenge! I’m off to Manhattan now and if the weather holds up I will have some fun pictures for you tomorrow! I hope you have a superb Saturday!

Freshly Made Sketches 113

Yes, ladies and gentlemen, it’s that time again… FRIDAY is here!! This week at work seemed to be extra long but thankfully it will be over in a few short hours. My boss comes back from Israel on Monday, she did send us a video of her riding a camel the other day. That was quite entertaining! Tomorrow morning I’m off to Manhattan. Pray that the rain ends early so I can take a little walk and get some pictures! I also found out today that I’ll have to fend for myself on Thanksgiving as my parents will be heading down to my brother’s house. Looks like it will be a movie day for Justin!

Cindy Hall and the “Clean Team” over at Freshly Made Sketches gave us this sketch to work with this time…

Freshly Made Sketches #113

I decided for a change, I would go with a solid color for the background and base of my card. The inspiration for the colors in my card comes from the I Am Me Designer Series Paper. Funny enough, I liked the way the colors worked together on the card, but ended up not using the DSP! The base of the card is Basic Gray Card Stock. My two offset pieces are Real Red and across that is a piece of Calypso Coral. The light bulb images are from the Crazy, Mixed-Up Love Stamp Set, which is apparently my “Stamp Set of the week” LOL! My Stamp-a-ma-jig helped me line them up and they are backed with a piece of Pool Party, which is mounted to the card with Stampin’ Dimensionals. I stamped the greeting from the same set in Versa-Mark and heat embossed it with White Stampin’ Emboss Powder. That’s it! Today’s card is simple but fun. As always, I hope you enjoyed my post for this week’s Freshly Made Sketches, thanks for stopping by today! Enjoy your Friday, I know I will! 🙂

Mojo 320

It was quite chilly again here today and is just going to get colder. Winter has finally arrived just in time for the Holiday’s. Who invited it again?! LOL! One more day until the week is done, always makes me smile! I’ll be in Manhattan on Saturday, it’s supposed to rain in the morning but hopefully it will clear up so I can go for a little stroll. Sunday will be a crafty day, lots to do!

My inspiration for today’s post is this week’s Mojo Monday sketch challenge and the clever Julee Tilman provides us with this sketch…

Mojo320

This has been a little bit of a “Vintage” week so I figured I would continue on with the trend! My card starts off with a base of Raspberry Ripple Card Stock. The panel of paper is from the “Vintage” Print Poetry Designer Series Paper Stack from this year’s Spring Catalog. Next up is a piece of Summer Starfruit that I embossed with the Perfect Polkadots Textured Impressions Embossing Folder. My image is from the Crazy, Mixed Up Love Stamp Set and is stamped in Primrose Petals on Vellum Card Stock and Very Vanilla. I cut them both out with my Paper Snips and adhered just the top and bottom of the one stamped on the Very Vanilla to the Vellum piece. It makes a great way to hide the Stampin’ Dimensionals that I used to adhere it to the Very Vanilla base backed with some Primrose Petals. Before I adhered all of that to the card I used some Sticky Strip to fix the Primrose Petals 3/8″ Stitched Satin Ribbon around the back. A piece is tied to the ribbon and the greeting is adhered with more Stampin’ Dimensionals. I’m loving the way the lava lamp looks stamped on the Vellum and the colors are fun too! Thanks so much for visiting me today to see my Mojo Monday card for this week’s sketch. Here’s to a speedy Thursday! 🙂

Off to today’s post we go and it’s my Design Team card for this week’s Paper Craft Crew sketch challenge…

PCCCS068 11-20-2013

For my card base, I used Calypso Coral Card Stock and for my background I dusted off an oldie-but-goodie, my “Vintage” Distressed Dots Background Stamp stamped in Soft Suede on Very Vanilla Card Stock. My main image is from the Simply Sketched Host(ess) Stamp Set stamped in Soft Suede and backed with a piece of Gumball Green. The two flags are pieces of the Epic Day This and That Designer Series Paper and they are adhered to the panel with SNAIL. The greeting is from the Chalk Talk Stamp Set stamped in Soft Suede and punched out with the 1 3/8″ Circle Punch. I used the Circles Collections Framelits to cut out a piece of Gumball Green to back it. Stampin’ Dimensionals hold the greeting and panel to the base of the card. To finish off the card I used the “fork method” to make my bow from Gumball and a Mini Glue Dot to adhere it. Every once in a while I miss one of my stamps, which is why you saw the Distressed Dots today! I appreciate you stopping by to see my Design Team card for this week’s Paper Craft Crew Sketch Challenge. Head on over to the blog to see what the other designers have come up with for the sketch and don’t forget to enter your card in the gallery! May you all have a wildly wonderful Wednesday!

Control Freaks November Blog Tour

freakwelcome2013

Hello everyone and welcome to the November Control Freaks Blog Tour! Our theme for this month’s tour is Christmas! If you are following the tour then you have arrived here from Cindy Elam’s blog. She had some great stuff, didn’t she?! I have two home decor projects for you. Who couldn’t use a little inspiration to help with the decorating around your house this time of year?

The first of the two projects I have for you today is a banner. I’m a big fan of nontraditional holiday colors and this banner is no exception. The bases for the banner are Cherry Cobbler Card Stock that I stamped in Cherry Cobbler with the Dictionary Background Stamp. I flagged the bottoms and used the 1″ Circle Punch to create the ticket corners on the top. The rosettes are made from Winter Frost Specialty Designer Series Paper using my Simply Scored Scoring Tool. My next layer is a piece of Blushing Bride that I cut out with the Chalk Talk Framelits Dies and embossed with the Alphabet Press Textured Impressions Embossing Folder. The letters that spell out JOY are cut out using the Typeset Alphabet Bigz Dies from Cherry Cobbler. To add a little interest I stamped some snowflakes from the Festive Flurry Stamp Set in Pool Party and cut them out with the Festive Flurry Framelits Dies. The flags are held on to the jute twine with some Pool Party that is punched out with the “Vintage” Tab Punch. The snowflakes are held on with Card Stock that is punched out with the Word Window Punch. It’s a fun and relatively simple banner to make, but it’s sure to dress up any home for the holidays!

Control Freaks Nov. Tour Banner Snowflake

My second project for today I’m going to use as a tree topper, but you could also use it as an ornament on a bigger tree or it could be hung on a door. The base for my project is a piece of Soft Sky Card Stock that I cut out with the Circles Collections Framelits Dies. The background is a piece of Very Vanilla that I stamped with the World Map Background Stamp in Old Olive and that is also cut out with the Circles Framelits. I used the Christmas Star Single Stamp heat embossed with Gold Stampin’ Emboss Powder, cut out with my Paper Snips and scored with my Simply Scored Scoring Tool. Some stacked Stampin’ Dimensionals adhere it to the background. The greeting is from the Greetings of the Season Stamp Set, stamped in Cherry Cobbler and punched out with the 1 3/4″ Scallop Circle Punch. It is backed with a piece of Cherry Cobbler that I cut out with the Deco Labels Collection Framelits Dies. Two flagged pieces of Brushed Gold Card Stock are adhered behind it. On the back of it is a tube of Soft Sky that I will use to place it on top of my tree.

Control Freaks Nov. Tour Tree Topper

I hope that you enjoyed my projects for this month’s Control Freaks Blog Tour. Now on to your next stop, up next is Lisa Martz, enjoy! Thanks so much for stopping by here and have a great day!

SUO Challenges 84

Glad to see that we all made it through another Monday. Mine was filled with meetings and the usual office shenanigans. It was another nice day, a little windy, but not too cold. This morning however, it’s really windy and promises to get a lot colder, winter is back again. I really don’t mind it’s little appearances, lets just hope that it doesn’t overstay it’s welcome!

My card today is for the SUO Challenges and this time our theme is let it snow. I decided on a nice simple card, sometimes you just need one don’t you?! The base of my card is Gumball Green Card Stock. I used a piece of Pool Party for the background and stamped the snowflakes from the Snow Day Stamp Set in Pool Party randomly. My tree is from the Special Season Stamp Set and is heat embossed with Gumball Green Stampin’ Emboss Powder. The greeting is from the Greetings of the Season Stamp Set and is stamped in Gumball Green. This would be a great card to mass produce because while it’s simple, the embossed tree gives it that little something extra! Thanks so much for coming by today to see my simple card for the SUO Challenges let it snow challenge. Head on over to the blog to see what the other clever designers have come up with and don’t forget to post your card in the gallery! Have a simply enjoyable day!

Paper Players 172

I know that I say it every Monday but the weekend goes way too fast. It was gloomy here all day and I felt a little gloomy myself, I made the mistake of listening to too much sad music I guess. I did manage to get a lot of my projects done yesterday so that was a good thing. I even got to stop by and see my friends Kim and Brian and little Izzy and Savannah and let’s not forget Kevin! It’s the start of a new week and as always I’m just waiting for Friday! LOL!

The only good thing about Monday is that it’s time to for the Paper Players. I wanted to thank Ann for choosing my card as her Headliner for last and her lovely write up. You can see my original post here and the Paper Players post here. Now for this week, we have a CAS project with leaves from Nance…

Paper Players #172

I debated for a while what I was going to use and then the card materialized in my little brain! The base of the card is Very Vanilla Card Stock. I wrapped some Linen Thread around the card and tied it in a bow. My leaf is cut out with the Autumn Accents Bigz Die from Gold Foil Sheet and I tucked it under the Linen Thread. I used some Gold Stampin’ Emboss Powder to heat emboss the greeting from the Harvest of Thanks Stamp Set and cut it out with my Bitty Banners Framelits Dies. Some Stampin’ Dimensionals adhere it to the base. A very CAS card indeed but I love the rich slightly rustic look. Thanks for stopping by to see my card for this week’s Paper Players CAS with Leaves challenge from Nance. I hope that you enjoyed the card! Now go and enjoy your day! 🙂

Just Add Ink 191

Well, yesterday turned out to be a nice day after all. It was warm enough to skip the jacket for a while. I did some clean up in the craft area in the morning. In the afternoon I went to the gym with my buddy Andrew and then we went for a walk just because it was so nice out. There was even a little fence climbing, I haven’t done that since I was a kid! LOL! All in all not a bad day. How were things by you?

My card for today is for this week’s Just Add Ink challenge. This week we have a sketch as our inspiration…

JAI Sketch 191

I like trying out different color combos to mix things up, I also went with a collage style card, one of my favorites. The base of my card is Whisper White Card Stock. I embossed a piece of Pool Party with the Alphabet Press Textured Impressions Embossing Folder and adhered a piece of Gumball Green 3/8″ Stitched Satin Ribbon around the back and then adhered it to the card front covering the whole thing. I liked the way my card looked yesterday with it so I will be doing more often! The partial circle is a piece of Gumball Green that I cut out with the Circles Collection Framelits Dies. The stamp is from the Notable Notions Stamp Set and is stamped in Gumball Green, I also used it for the buttons which are stamped in Gumball Green, Cherry Cobbler and Pool Party and punched out with the 1/2″ Circle Punch. My doily is Bushing Bride and I used the Delicate Doilies Large Sizzlit to cut it out. The ornament is from the Best of Christmas Stamp Set and is stamped in Cherry Cobbler. For the small ornament I used the Very Merry Tags Stamp Set and stamped it in Pool Party and punched it out with the Mosaic Punch. The final piece to the collage are the tickets which are stamped in Pool Party and Gumball Green from the That’s the Ticket Stamp Set. To finish off the card I used a Mini Glue Dot to adhere a Subtles Collection Designer Button on the ribbon. I really am liking the colors and they aren’t ones that I would usually put together. Thanks for stopping by today to see my card for this week’s Just Add Ink sketch challenge, I hope that you enjoyed it and have a wonderful Sunday! 🙂
