  • Freshly Made Sketches 156

    And how was your Wednesday? I hope that it was a good one. My day was repeat of yesterday at work – so much fun! The day got infinitely better once I made my escape! I ran to Target with Heather to pick up some groceries and other necessities. It was a rainy dreary day here all day and Heather’s mood was similar, but I managed to cheer her up a bit! Little Winston decided that it would be a good idea to eat one of the mushrooms in the backyard the other day. He was quite sick on Monday night. I looked up the mushroom on Google and sure enough it was poisonous. The web site that I was on said that unless you catch it in the first four hours you just have to let it play through. It also said that it’s rarely fatal so I kept my fingers crossed and he seems to be fine today. I did go out and pull up all of the ones that I could find just in case he decides to have another bout of curiosity! Never a dull moment!

    Today’s card is for this week’s Freshly Made Sketches challenge from the lovely Narelle…

    Freshly Made Sketches #156

    As soon as I saw the sketch an idea of what I wanted to do began to take shape. The base for my card is Pool Party Card Stock. I stamped my greeting from the Endless Wishes Photopolymer Stamp Set in Lost Lagoon in the lower right corner. A piece of Smoky Slate, some 7/8″ Cotton Ribbon and some Lost Lagoon 3/8″ Stitched Satin Ribbon are adhered centered on the lower half of the base. My fun star shaker is a piece of Lost Lagoon with one of the images from the Merry and Bright Stamp Set stamped in Lost Lagoon. All of the pieces are cut out with the Stars Framelits, including a piece of Window Sheet and some Silver Foil Sheet as the frame. I used regular foam tape to create the space to put the Frosted Sequins in, doubled so they would get a little more movement, and adhered the pieces together. My last little detail is a piece of Vellum that I heat embossed another image from the Merry and Bright Stamp Set in Silver Stampin’ Emboss Powder and again used the Stars Framelits to cut it out. It too is adhered with some tiny pieces of foam tape. A fun shaker card to make someone’s Holiday extra special! I hope that you enjoyed my card for this week’s Freshly Made Sketches challenge.   • Paper Craft Crew 112

    I do enjoy a Wednesday, it’s the halfway point and after the day I had yesterday I’m glad to be that much closer to Friday. Work made up for all of the pleasant days that I have had by being just annoying. We have good days and bad days, that’s just the way things work right?! I ran Heather over to her catering job to pick something up after work and then had dinner. I did get a call from my friend at the Apple Store yesterday telling me that he had an iPhone 6 for me to pick up. My friend Kim in the city wanted one and she is on my plan so I headed over and picked it up. I also stopped at BestBuy to get her a case and a screen protector. Now to get it to her, because once the new phone is purchased the old one gets shut off! My friend Chantal to the rescue! I went and dropped it off at her house and Kim will go over to her office and pick it up tomorrow. It was a very involved process to make it all come together but it did in the end!

    If it’s Wednesday that means that I’m over on the Paper Craft Crew blog for our sketch challenge for this week…

    PCCCS112 Sketch 10-01-2014

    It looked vaguely familiar to me so I decided not to use the speech bubbles again. I started off today’s card with a base of Sahara Sand Card Stock and on top of that is a piece of Basic Black. The top panel is a piece of Tangerine Tango and I stamped one of the images from the Gorgeous Grunge Stamp Set in Memento Tuxedo Black on it. My pumpkins and leaf are cut out using the Fun Fall Framelits. I cut one of the pumpkins out of the pane and one from Crushed Curry. The leaf is cut from a piece of Sahara Sand. Before I adhered the panel to the card with Stampin’ Dimensionals I tucked a piece of the Motley Monsters Designer Series Paper behind the negative pumpkin and I stamped the greeting from this month’s Paper Pumpkin Kit in Memento Tuxedo Black. The other pumpkin and leaf are adhered with more Stampin’ Dimensionals and three black enamel dots are secured in the lower right corner. A fun and different Halloween card don’t you think?! That’s my interpretation of this week’s Paper Craft Crew sketch.     Made it through Monday and I’m happy to see that you did too! My day was pretty average. I got stuff done at work and when I came home little Daniel was there for dinner. I spoke to my sister-in-law Erika about his birthday party decorations and we are going to make them on the 18th of October. Andrew stopped by for a little visit on his way home from school, always a nice surprise! Heather had to take her car to her dad in Valley Stream to get her tire fixed so I followed her there and drove her back. We hung out at her house for a bit and had a nice long chat about the goings on in our lives. Always good to talk about that sort of stuff and get another opinion so we know that we are not ready to board the crazy train! LOL! So, it was a very good day!

    Today’s post is for this week’s Mojo Monday sketch challenge…

    Yeah! Another Tall & Skinny card! They are fast becoming my favorite cards to make! The card I made for today starts off with a base of Smoky Slate Card Stock and for the background I used a piece of paper from the Typeset Specialty Designer Series Paper Pack. Across the top is a piece of Crushed Curry that I heat embossed the greeting from the Hi There Stamp Set in Black Stampin’ Emboss Powder. My banners are all pieces of paper from the Flashback Designer Series Paper Pack. I thought the card needed a little more so I used my 1/4″ and 1/2″ Circle Punches to make some “page protectors” using Real Red, Pool Party, Crushed Curry and Smoky Slate. I adhered them in a line down the left side of the card with Multi-Purpose Glue. A rather simple, highly mailable and somewhat masculine card that would be great for a birthday, thank you or just about any other occasion don’t you think?! That’s my card for this week’s Mojo Monday sketch challenge. I hope that you enjoyed it as much as I enjoyed making it! Thanks so much for coming by to spend a little time with me today!   • Paper Players 215

    I’m not going to make my usual comment about the weekend being over. I had a nice weekend, got some things done and saw a lot of peeps. Yesterday I finally got some cleaning done and finished up some projects. I also went to dinner at Ruby Tuesday’s with my friend Maureen. Not a bad day at all. Now I will begin my mental countdown to Friday! LOL! Oh come on, you know that those of you that work are doing the very same thing! 😛

    If it’s Monday then it’s time for the Paper Players! This week we have a fun sketch from my friend Sandy…

    I did ponder what I was going to do for a little bit, actually while I was vacuuming! I finally settled on this. My card base is a piece of Pistachio Pudding Card Stock. I stamped the parkay pattern from the Truly Grateful Stamp Set Early Espresso on Soft Suede. The butterflies are from the Papillon Potpourri Stamp Set and are heat embossed in Calypso Coral on Vellum. I punched them out with the Bitty Butterfly Punch. Before I adhered them to the card I stamped my greeting from the A Dozen Thoughts Stamp Set in Early Espresso using my Stamp-a-ma-jig. The butterflies are then adhered to the wood panel with Glue Dots. For a little sparkle I “sprinkled” a few Pistachio Pudding sequins from the 2013-2014 In-Colors Sequin Assortment along the bottom right. I love the bold pop of the butterflies against the nice dark wood panel and I think that Pistachio helps balance everything out.   • Freshly Made Sketches 155 & Pals Paper Arts 211

    WOW! Sunday already! Where did Saturday go?! At least I managed to get up at a decent hour today! LOL! I had a nice day yesterday, I crafted, ran some errands and had breakfast with Kim and the munchkins! I always seem to have more to get accomplished in a weekend than I have time for but isn’t that the case for most of us? We learn to prioritize that way right?! I’m playing a bit of catch up today so you get not one but two cards! Lets get to them, shall we?!

    The first one up is for this week’s Freshly Made Sketches challenge from Karren…

    Do you see it?! A tag!! LOL! I did another traditional Christmas card, red and green. My base is a piece of Garden Green Card Stock and the strip of paper down the left side is a piece of paper from the Trim the Tree Designer Series Paper Stack. The tag is a piece of Crumb Cake and I used the Scalloped Tag Topper Punch and the Project Life Corner Rounder to create it. My image and greeting are from the Making Spirits Bright Stamp Set. The cocktail is heat embossed in Black Stampin’ Emboss Powder and colored in with some colored pencils. The greeting is heat embossed in Gold Stampin’ Emboss Powder on Cherry Cobbler and cut out with the Bitty Banners Framelits. Some Stampin’ Dimensionals hold it in place. A few sequins from the Gold Sequin Trim are adhered to the tag and a piece of Gold 5/8″ Satin Ribbon is threaded though the hole and some Linen Thread is tied in a knot to secure it in place. The tag is then adhered to the card with more Stampin’ Dimensionals. I love the way the colored pencils look with the Black heat embossing on the Crumb Cake and the plaid pattern in the Designer Series Paper is just perfect!

    Up next is my card for this week’s Pals Paper Arts sketch challenge…

    PPA 221

     

    I have wanted to play with a new stamp set that I recently acquired and this seemed like the perfect sketch! My card starts with a base of Whisper White Card Stock. The background is a piece of Lost Lagoon that is stamped in Lost Lagoon with one of the flowers from the Forever Florals Stamp Set randomly. I adhered a piece of Lost Lagoon 3/8″ Stitched Ribbon around the back of the card with Sticky Strip and then adhered the background to the base. The panel is a piece of Silver Glimmer Paper and my squares are the same flower stamped on Watercolor Paper and heat embossed in White Stampin’ Emboss Powder. I used my Aqua Painter and some Lost Lagoon Ink to color in the flowers and surrounding area. My Stampin’ Trimmer cuts it apart and some Multi-Purpose Glue adheres it to the panel (I put the largest clear block on top of the squares to hold them in place while they dried). I used Stampin’ Dimensionals to adhere the panel to the background. The greeting is from the same stamp set and is stamped in Lost Lagoon, the ends flagged and more Stampin’ Dimensionals to hold it to the ribbon. My friend Eva sent me a cool little punch tool that lets you punch out a piece of paper and adhere a clear epoxy dome to it in one step. I used a piece of the All Abloom Designer Series Paper Stack backed with a piece of Silver Glimmer Paper that I punched out with the 7/8″ Scallop Circle Punch to complete the card. I love the flowers from the Forever Florals heat embossed and colored in loosely with my Aqua Painter and the background is pretty neat too!

  • Golden Blackberry 50th

    Hi there! I’m getting a late start today and I apologize for that! I had a nice evening last night with some of my peeps for Brian’s birthday. A bunch of us went over to Brian and Kim’s for some food and drink. Brian is quite the amazing cook, he made chicken and beef sliders, some yummy meatballs and there were chips and other assorted goodies! We all just sat around the fire pit and laughed and talked. Sometimes those are the best kind of nights, don’t you think. I did have a bit of a headache when I got home, September and October are allergy season for me and I keep forgetting to take my allergy pills! I was up until around 2:00 waiting for the Excedrin to kick in, hence I woke up a little on the late side! I do have some pictures from last night for you though! Here are me and the birthday boy…

    I couldn’t stop laughing in that last picture so we just went with it! LOL!

    Now on to my card for today. My boss asked me to make her parents a 50th Wedding Anniversary card. I wanted to keep it simple yet elegant and this is what I came up with. The card begins with a base of Sahara Sand Card Stock. I adhered one of the Tea Lace Paper Doilies with some SNAIL to the base. For the focal point I started with a piece of Blackberry Bliss that I cut out with the Party Pennants Bigz L Die. My greeting is from the “Vintage” One in a Million Stamp Set and is heat embossed in Gold Stampin’ Emboss Powder. Some Champagne Glimmer Paper and the “Vintage” Typeset Alphabet Bigz Dies are used to cut out the numbers and they are adhered with Stampin’ Dimensionals. Finally I tied a piece of Gold Baker’s Twine around the top of the pennant in a bow and mounted it to the card with Stampin’ Dimensionals. Still loving the Blackberry Bliss with the gold and the Sahara Sand makes a nice change for the usual White or Vanilla! The greeting is also still one of my favorites! I think that it’s a simple elegant card and you can let me know if agree! Thank you for stooping by to see what my Friday was like, I love sharing my day with you all! Have a spectacular Saturday! 🙂

  • Fab Friday 51

    Woo hoo! It’s Friday peeps and I had a great day yesterday! Work was not too bad again, and I got a lot done! After work Andrew and I headed to the Apple Store in Manhasset because it said online that still had some iPhones in stock. We got there around 6:20 and by 7:00 I had a brand new iPhone 6 Space Gray in my hands! Woo hoo! I was looking at the 6 Plus but it’s just way too big. I would like to put it in my pocket and the Plus just won’t fit! LOL! After Apple we went to Friday’s for dinner, I know, I was just there but it’s close and the food is pretty good! I spent the rest of the evening playing with my new toy! I’m really loving it! A nice upgrade and I can’t wait until they enable the Apple Pay System next month!

    I actually made this card two weeks ago by accident. I did the wrong week for the challenge! LOL! Like I said, such a dunce sometimes! Anyway, my card today starts with a base of Very Vanilla Card Stock and I adhered a piece of Kraft Card Stock to the entire card front. The circle is another piece of Very Vanilla that I punched out with the 2 1/2″ Circle Punch and then ran it through the Big Shot with the Woodgrain Textured Impressions Embossing Folder. I sponged on some Crumb Cake Ink to bring out the grain and then adhered it to the card with Stampin’ Dimensionals. My flower is from the Bloom with Hope Host Stamp Set and is heat embossed in Gold Stampin’ Emboss Powder on Vellum Card Stock and cut it out with my Paper Snips. I used my Calypso Coral and Daffodil Delight Stampin’ Blendabilities Markers to color in the back side and then adhered it to the circle with Multi-Purpose Glue. The bird is from the Choose Happiness Stamp Set and is stamped in Soft Suede and cut out with my Paper Snips too. I stamped my greeting from the And Many More Stamp Set in Soft Suede on an Essentials Wooden Element. The heart is also one and is colored in with my Calypso Coral Stampin’ Write Marker. Under the circle is a piece of 7/8″ Cotton Ribbon. On top of that I stamped one of the feathers from the Four Feathers Stamp Set in Lost Lagoon on a piece of Pool Party and cut it out with the Feathers Framelits. Finally a piece of Gold Sequin Trim is tucked under the circle and completes the card. I love the eclectic mix of colors and elements and I’m also really liking the vellum flower colored in on the back with the Stampin’ Blendabilities Markers.     Well, that was nice Wednesday! It was a little chilly here yesterday morning but warmed up as the day went on. We are supposed to get some heavy rain this morning but it’s not supposed to last all day. After work I came home and got a nice little surprise, Andrew stopped by for a bit! We chatted for a while and the he had to go and pick up his mom and I had to go and meet Heather for her appointment at the Apple Store and dinner. I picked up Heather and we headed to Apple. She is having problems with her iPhone 4 and she thought by some miracle they would have a new 6 in stock. Silly Heather! LOL! We stopped at BestBuy and they had iPhone 6’s, just not AT&T. Since we were right near Friday’s we went there for dinner. They had half price appetizers and $3 martinis! We had cosmos, potstickers and boneless wings. Our friend Stephanie came and joined us for a drink and then we went back to Heather’s for bit. She called and ordered the iPhone 6 from Apple, she should get it on the 14th of October! I came home and made my card and got to bed a lot later than I wanted to! Oh well, I had a great evening so the lack of sleep will be worth it!

    I went for a somewhat traditional Christmas card. The card starts off with a base of Garden Green Card Stock and the background is a piece of Crumb Cake that I embossed with the On Point Textured Impressions Embossing Folder. Next up is a piece of paper from the Trim the Tree Designer Series Paper Stack backed with some Whisper White. All of the stamped images and greeting are from the Ornamental Pine Stamp Set. The pine branch is stamped in Garden Green on Whisper White and is backed with a piece of Garden Green. My ornament and hanger are heat embossed in Gold Stampin’ Emboss Powder and cut out with my Paper Snips. The hanger is adhered to the card with Multi-purpose Glue and the ornament with Stampin’ Dimensionals. I stamped the greeting in Versa-Marka and heat embossed that on Early Espresso and cut them out and adhered them to the panels with Stampin’ Dimensionals too. I really like the greeting separated on top of the panel and the way the embossing folder goes so well with the DSP.   • Paper Craft Crew 111

    Sometimes you have one of those quiet nondescript days, today was one of them. Work was work, dinner was dinner. I made a card and actually watched a TV show. I’m not a huge TV person and I haven’t watched a series in a long time. I was looking through iTunes and saw this show called Forever, it looked interesting and the pilot was free so I watched it. It has a kind of interesting premise, the lead character is 200 years old and can’t die. They prove this by having him be a part of a terrible subway crash in the first 10 minutes of the show. The rest of the show was pretty interesting too, if you have some free time give a watch and let me know what you think. We need to mix it up every once in a while don’t we? I’ll do that by watching some TV! LOL! Sometimes I’m so exciting I can’t stand it! LOLOLOL!

    Now that I have had my little tangent lets get to today’s post. I’m over on the Paper Craft Crew blog for our sketch this week…

    PCCCS111 Sketch 9-24-2014

    I was quite impressed that I didn’t see the flowers when I looked at the sketch, I saw Halloween! For my card base I used a piece of Bermuda Bay Card Stock. The background is two pieces of paper from the Motley Monsters Designer Series Paper Pack with a piece of Basic Black Chevron Ribbon across the middle that is adhered around the back with some Sticky Strip before mounting it to the card with SNAIL. My panel is a piece of Tangerine Tango with another piece of the Motley Monsters Designer Series Paper tucked underneath the right hand side. The three stamped images are from the Freaky Friends Stamp Set and are stamped in Memento Tuxedo Black and colored in with Bermuda Bay, Crushed Curry, Basic Gray and Tangerine Tango Stampin’ Write Markers. I used my Paper Snips to cut them out and they are all adhered with Stampin’ Dimensionals. My greeting is from the Holiday Home Photopolymer Stamp Set and is heat embossed in White Stampin’ Emboss Powder on a piece of Basic Black that I flagged the right end of. To complete the card I adhered three enamel dots in the lower right hand corner (a little prezzy from Taylor!). I really like it when you can use a few different pieces from a pack of DSP together and I love when the stamp set coordinates so perfectly! There is my freaky little Halloween card for this week’s Paper Craft Crew sketch challenge.   • SUO Challenges 106

    Yesterday wasn’t so bad for a Monday and I don’t get to say that often! Work was the usual busy but manageable. Little Daniel was at my parents for dinner and he was a little better about his food this time. He has some teeth now so his smile is even better! His birthday is coming up so I’m going to help his mom Erika with the decorations, that should be fun! After dinner I went over to see my friends Brian & Kim and the wee ones. Heather stopped by quick too. Love getting to see so many peeps all at once! It got a little chilly here last night, I guess just to remind us that Fall is officially here. So long summer, Just so you know I wouldn’t mind it if you came back for a bit, just until April! LOL!

    Today I’m over on the SUO Challenges blog for our Autumn colors challenge. I did some fall cards over the weekend so I wanted to use some different stuff. The card starts with a base of Hello Honey Card Stock. I stamped the greeting from the Truly Grateful Stamp Set in Baked Brown Sugar in the lower right hand corner. The panel is a piece of Very Vanilla that I stamped with the Hardwood Background Stamp in Baked Brown Sugar. I used the Spiral Border Punch along the top and then used the Stampin’ Trimmer Rotary Attachment and the Perforating Stampin’ Trimmer Rotary Cutting Blade across the top for a more authentic notebook paper feel! My leaf is cut out with the Autumn Accents Bigz Die from a piece of Tangelo Twist. I adhered it to the card with Stampin’ Dimensionals. Two of the Autumn Wooden Essentials are glued to each other and to the leaf with Multi-Purpose Glue. To finish things off I tied a piece of Linen Thread in a bow around the top of the leaf. A nice simple fall card that would make a great thank you card! I hope that you enjoyed my Design Team card for the SUO Challenges Autumn colors.
