  • Paper Players 177

Well, despite the fact that it was a rainy day here my friend Heather and I ventured into Manhattan. She said that she wanted to get a coat and I haven’t been shopping in forever so I suggested that we go to Macy’s in Herald Square. If you can’t find it there chances are that you don’t need it! LOL! It is after all the world’s biggest department store. We had a nice day shopping and there were really good sales too! I got a coat, some sweaters, a sweat jacket and pants. Heather got two coats, she couldn’t decide between them! I took a few pictures, the first one is inside on the first floor. It’s where most of the holiday decoration are around Christmas.

The next one is a view down 34th Street towards Madison Square Garden.

    IMG_2405

And the last one is a selfie of us under the awing outside on 34th Street.

    IMG_2407

After we finished with our shopping we headed uptown and met my friend Kim and had some pizza before we started back home. A very nice day indeed!

After a little break the Paper Players are back! This week the challenge is to use the Chalkboard technique…

    Paper Players #177

I don’t usually veer away from standard card sizes but I did today. My card starts off with a base of Soft Sky Card Stock that I cut to 7″ x 6 1/2″ and folded. I stamped the Hardwood Background Stamp in Soft Suede on Soft Suede and used my Paper Trimmer to separate the planks, they form the frame around my chalkboard. The image is from the Perfect Couple Stamp Set and the greeting is from the Yippee-Skippee Stamp Set, they are both heat embossed in White Stampin’ Emboss Powder and I used my sponge and some Craft Ink whiten up the black. Not too involved but really fun none the less! I love the Hardwood Stamp cut apart and used as a frame. I hope that you enjoyed my card for this week’s Paper Players challenge. Thank you for visiting, have a great Monday! 🙂

  • Retro Hexagon Moon

It was another chilly day here but the sun was out so that made it a little better. I had a nice day with Andrew, we ran errands and had some lunch. He had dinner with the people from his a cappella group for one of the members birthdays tonight. I watched some TV and relaxed for a bit. Sometimes it’s really nice to just be, don’t you think? I’m off to Manhattan for a bit this morning, it’s supposed to rain again but be in the 40’s so hopefully that will get rid of some of the snow!

Today my card starts off with a base of Baked Brown Sugar. I used the Hexagon Hive Thinlits Die to cut out a piece of Coastal Cabana, Tangerine Tango and Very Vanilla. I adhered the Coastal Cabana piece to the card base and randomly filled in the empty spots with the other two colors. Next up I flagged a piece of Retro Fresh Designer Series Paper and adhered that to the background. My greeting is from the Love You to the Moon Stamp Set, is stamped in Coastal Cabana and cut out with the Chalk Talk Framelits Dies. A piece of Tangerine Tango, also cut out with the same dies, is behind that. Under that is a piece of Very Vanilla and I punched both ends with the Scallop Tag Topper Punch, they’re adhered with Stampin’ Dimensionals. I really like the way the Hexagon Hive looks when it’s randomly filled in and how cool is it that the double punch of the Scallop Tag Topper fits behind the Chalk Talk Framelit? I hope you enjoyed my bright, bold card for today. Thanks, as always, for stopping by and have a great Sunday!

  • Catherine & Cathy Create 19

    CCC_CardsChallenge-003

Happy Saturday! Yesterday it was a battle between my dislike of snow and the fact that I got the day off because of it! Yes, I hate snow and cold and all of the other winter stuff but a three day week with a surprise Friday off, that pretty awesome! There wasn’t much else to do besides craft so that exactly what I did! I also spoke to my cousin in England for an hour, that was nice, I miss her! Oh, and I watched Oblivion with Tom Cruise, pretty good. I wanted to share this picture that was taken from my window to show you how lovely a morning it was! There are many more houses in the distance but the snow caused white-out conditions!

    IMG_2393

Enough about the weather! I’m over on the Catherine & Cathy Create blog for this month’s card challenge. All we ask is for a little doodle on your project! I wanted to keep my card simple so this is what I came up with. The base of my card is Very Vanilla Card Stock. I embossed a piece of Marina Mist (very neglected color) with the Alphabet Press Textured Impressions Embossing Folder for my background and then took my Calypso Coral Stampin’ Write Marker and “doodled”! As you can see I’m not a very good doodler! The fun circles are from the Spiral Spins Stamp Set and are stamped in Calypso Coral and Marina Mist and punched out with the 1 3/8″ and 1/2″ Circle Punches. For the greeting I used the Perfect Pennants Stamp Set, stamped it in Calypso Coral and punched it out with the 1 3/4″ Circle Punch. All of the pieces are adhered to the card with Stampin’ Dimensionals. I had to have the Spiral Spins Set because it reminds me of Spirograph and I thought the color combo was different! I appreciate you dropping by to see my card for the Catherine & Cathy Create cards challenge. Click on over to the blog and see what the rest of the Design Team have done and do a little doodle on a card and enter it in the gallery! Have a fun and frost free Saturday! 🙂

  • Pals Paper Arts 186 & Sneak Peek

I woke up this morning to 6 inches or more of snow… not a good morning! It was cloudy and miserable all day yesterday. They did say that we were going to get a lot of snow and they didn’t lie. I think I’m not going to even try to go to work, my little convertible is definitely not a fan of the snow. I’m sure that most of you are having a not so nice winter either. Hopefully it will be a quick winter!

On a fun happy note today marks the first day that you can order from the 2014 Occasions Catalog! I hope that all of my sneak peeks have inspired you and that you have all of your favorites on a list! 🙂

Today I have my card for this week’s Pals Paper Arts challenge and this week we have a very elegant color combo…

    PPA 186

My card starts off with a base of Whisper White Card Stock. For the background I embossed a piece of Island Indigo with the Fancy Fan Textured Impressions Embossing Folder and backed it with some Gold Foil Sheet. My flowers are from the Secret Garden Stamp Set and are heat embossed with Gold Stampin’ Emboss Powder, then cut out with the Secret Garden Framelits. The greeting is from the You’re Lovely Stamp Set** and is stamped in Island Indigo and cut out with the Deco Labels Collection Framelits that I also used to cut out some more Gold Foil Sheet. The butterflies are cut out with the Beautiful Wings Embosslit with yup, you guessed it, Golf Foil Sheet. All of the elements are adhered to the card with Stampin’ Dimensionals. I like the way the flowers match the ones on the greeting and it was nice to use the Fancy Fan Embossing Folder, it was feeling neglected! Thanks for stopping by to see my card for this week’s Pals Paper Arts color challenge. I hope that you have a nice snow-free day! 🙂

  • Mojo 326 & Sneak Peek

Well, that was pretty good day for the 1st of a New Year. I got some projects done in the morning and had some wings for dinner with Andrew. I’m trying to get all of my stuff done before Wednesday so I have some posts ready to make my trip to Leadership a little less hectic. Less than a week to go, people! This weekend will be crunch time for sure and panic will probably set in around Monday. LOL!

My card for today is for this week’s Mojo Monday sketch challenge provided by the lovely Julee Tilman…

    Mojo326

The card starts off with a base of Gumball Green Card Stock and the background is a piece of Watercolor Wonder Designer Series Paper*. The strip of Tangerine Tango is embossed with the Honeycomb Textured Impressions Embossing Folder. For extra stability, I backed the DSP with a piece of Card Stock and adhered the Gold Sequin Trim around the back with Sticky Strip. The panel is a piece of Gumball Green and I adhered the hexagons that were cut out with the Hexagon Hive Thinlits Die* to it. My greeting is from the Lots of Thanks Stamp Set and is stamped in Gumball Green. Two “Vintage” 3/16″ Metallic Brads are adhered to the left of the greeting. A nice, bright, cheerful card to ward off the snowstorm we’re supposed to get later! I hope you enjoyed my card for this week’s Mojo Monday sketch challenge. I told you that you would be seeing a lot of those Tangerine Tango hexagons! LOL! Thanks so much for your visit today and have a great day!

  • SUO Challenges 87 & Sneak Peek

Well, here we are, the last day of 2013! Can you believe that it’s over? I think that the year just flew by. It seems like just yesterday I was at Convention. And now in a little over a week, I’ll be leaving for Leadership. Amazing just how fast things move. Hopefully it’s warmer in Texas than it is here because it was freezing today and it’s supposed to be 12 degrees on Friday! Brrrr!

For my last post of the year I have my card for the SUO Challenge. This time we ask you to create a card using January colors…

    SUO Challenges 87-WM

When I think of January, I think of cold, so I used blues and some snowflakes for my card. The base of my card is Island Indigo. For the background I used a piece of the Winter Frost Specialty Designer Series Paper. Another piece of Designer Series Paper backed with a piece of Island Indigo is on top of that. A banner of the Silver Foil Sheet goes across that and my flag is cut out from a piece of Bermuda Bay with the Banners Framelits Dies* and embossed with the Northern Flurry Textured Impressions Embossing Folder. Two more pieces of the Winter Frost Specialty Designer Series Paper are cut out with the Festive Flurry Framelits and adhered to the card with Stampin’ Dimensionals. My greeting is from the Bring on the Cake Stamp Set, is stamped in Island Indigo and cut out with the Word Bubble Framelits*. How’s that for a festive, chilly birthday card?! If you’ll notice, I didn’t tell you what the name of the Designer Series Paper that is backed with Island Indigo is called. Let’s play a fun little game! Let’s see how many of you can tell me what it’s called. From all of you that answer correctly, I will select one random person and send them a little surprise. No cheating and reading the other comments. LOL! I hope you enjoyed my SUO Challenges card this time around. Head on over to the blog to see what the other designers have come up and don’t forget to enter your card in the gallery so we can see your take on the challenge! Have a great day, and we’ll see you back here next year! Woo hoo!!

Oh, and don’t forget that if you want any of the Winter Frost Designer Series Paper or Winter Frost Designer Series Paper Stack you only have three days left to order it before it’s gone! 🙂

  • Crisp Starfruit Stars & Little Sneak Peek

How was your Sunday? Mine was pretty good for the last one of the year. I went into Manhattan in the morning and when I was finished with my appointment it was raining. That sort of dashed my hopes of taking a walk. When I got back on the Island I went to see my friends Kim and Kevin, Izzy and Savannah. We had some wine and Kim made ravioli parm for dinner. It was a much needed visit and Kim is just awesome! I also got to see Andrew for a minute. He has been very sick with the flu but is doing much better! I did manage to take one picture when I got to Penn Station. It’s not very exciting but it is the home of the new LIRR station, the former Post Office. You can see how rainy and gloomy it was too.

    Post Office Penn

There is no Paper Players card for today. Instead I have another fairly simple card, sort of a collage with unusual fun colors. The base of the card is Summer Starfruit Card Stock. My background is a piece of Whisper White. I stamped the large stars from the Simply Stars Stamp Set and the small ones from the Banner Blast Stamp Set** both in Smoky Slate randomly on a diagonal. The greeting is from the Bring on the Cake Stamp Set and is stamped in Early Espresso on a piece of paper from the Birthday Basics Designer Series Paper Pack. Another piece is adhered to one of the tags from the Stamp a Tag Kit and a piece of  Watercolor Wonder Designer Washi Tape* is adhered around the end. Some Whisper White Bakers Twine is looped through the hole for the tie. I stamped another greeting from the Delightful Dozen Stamp Set in Early Espresso and punched it out with the “Vintage” Large Star Punch.  Three more stars are punched out with the Merry Minis Punch Pack from Silver Foil Sheet and all of them are adhered with Stampin’ Dimensionals. I really love all of the colors, I think they go quite nicely together and the Washi Tape and Silver Foil Sheet give just the right amount of sparkle. Thanks very much for coming by to see my card for today. I always appreciate your visits and love your comments! Have a good last Monday of the year! 🙂

  • Hexagon Hello & Peeks

I had a very quiet Saturday, but sometimes that’s necessary no? I’m not really a fan of relaxed and quiet, I would much rather be busy. I ran some errands, worked on some projects and enjoyed the somewhat warm sunny day. I did take a little time to just sit outside and be for a bit. I don’t do that often enough and it felt good. How is your weekend going so far? I’m off to Manhattan this morning. Hopefully it won’t rain!

Today I have a simple card for you that I made using some scraps that I had lying around. The base of the card is Whisper White Card Stock. I punched out two pieces of Pool Party with the Hexagon Punch and smaller hexagons are pieces that were leftover from using the Hexagon Hive Thinlit Die*. I simply adhered them to the card and then stamped the greeting from the Four You Stamp Set in Pool Party. Simple yet fun and highly mailable. I hope you enjoyed my simple sunday card and thanks for coming by. I hope you have a nice simple Sunday! 🙂

  • Perfect Peachy Notes Sneak Peek

Ahh yes, the weekend! Everyones favorite time of the week, well, at least my favorite! Work again was pretty calm yesterday and I’m sure that will change come next week. It was really cold here again, I’m over that! In less than two weeks I’ll be in Houston for Leadership! It really has come quickly but I’m really excited to go, it’s going to be a good time! 🙂

My card for today has a bit of a funny story behind it. A friend of mine, Emily, had said that she liked the Mr. & Mrs. card that I had done for last week’s Pals Paper Arts but wasn’t sold on the Stamp Set because of the “bathroom” couple. I had to think for a minute and then I realized that she meant the stamp I have used on my card today. She said that if I could show her a card that makes them not look like “bathroom” people she would like the Stamp Set better. So here is what I have come up with…

The base of my card is Pool Party Card Stock and I used a piece of So Saffron for the background. A strip of paper from the I Am Me Designer Series Paper Pack goes down the left side. My main image is from the Perfect Couple Stamp Set* and is stamped in Basic Gray on Pool Party and the mini heart is punched out with the Owl Builder Punch. The frame around it is created using the Squares Collection Framelits Dies and the Oh Snap! is form the Hip Notes Stamp Set* and is stamped in Real Red. I adhered it to the card with Stampin’ Dimensionals. The hearts are punched out from Real Red with the Small Heart Punch. I used the Peachy Keen Stamp Set* to stamp the arrows along the bottom and they are cut out with the On Film Framelits Dies*. I also cut out a piece of Silver Foil Sheet with them for the camera. All of the elements are adhered with Stampin’ Dimensionals and some silver sequins complete the card. So, what do you think? Do they still look like “bathroom” people? I don’t think they do at all! I hope you enjoyed today’s card and thank you, as always, for stopping by! Enjoy your Saturday! 🙂
