  • Just Add Ink 188

Yesterday I managed to sneak out of work early. My friend Kim was coming in from Manhattan to stay with me for the night, and I desperately needed to straighten up my house. I managed to get most of the stuff done that I wanted to accomplish, and I picked Kim up from the train station at 6:40. She came out to go with me to my friends Brian and Kim’s daughter’s 1st and 3rd birthday party. It was optional costumes, so I wore a Batman shirt with a cape velcroed on the back. We had a good time, and it was great to see all my friends. Today, I will take Kim home later and my friend Andrew will join me because him and I will go for a long walk in the city, and I will see if can take some pictures for you to show you tomorrow.

The inspiration for today’s card comes from this week’s Just Add Ink challenge. They have asked us to just add grunge…

    JAI Grunge 188

The base of my card is Midnight Muse Card Stock and the background is a piece of the Birch Paper from the Thankful Tablescape Simply Created Kit. I backed it with a piece of Chocolate Chip to make it sturdier and I wrapped a piece of 1 1/4″ Burlap Ribbon around the lower half. It’s mounted to the Midnight Muse card base with Stampin’ Dimensionals. The leaf is from a pair of old jeans and I cut it out with the Autumn Accents Bigz Die and adhered to the card with Multi-Purpose Glue. I chose the greeting from the Harvest of Thanks Stamp Set and stamped it in Crushed Curry, cut it out with the Apothecary Accents Framelits Dies and adhered it to the Burlap Ribbon with Stampin’ Dimensionals. I really like the leaf cut from the jeans and the thanks definitely gives it the grunge without making the whole card look dirty. I appreciate you stopping by to see my card for this week’s Just Add Ink challenge. Thank you very much, and have a super Saturday!

  • Freshly Made Sketches 109

Ready… set… it’s FRIDAY!! LOL! I do get rather excited at the prospect of the weekend don’t I?! Yesterday was back to busy at work but I knew that would happen. I went to the gym straight after work and am actually really enjoying it. After I came home I puttered around in the craft area and made a few things. That’s always my favorite way to end the day! I’m still not sure what I’m doing about the blog, I will keep you posted.

For today’s card I have my Freshly Made Sketches card for this week’s challenge from Jen M….

    Freshly Made Sketches #109

A SUPER simple sketch wouldn’t you say?! I have done my best to keep my card as clean as possible. The base of my card is Very Vanilla Card Stock. The background is a piece of Primrose Petals that I embossed with the Pretty Print Textured Impressions Embossing Folder. My main panel is a piece of Primrose Petals that I backed with a piece of Very Vanilla and a piece of Vellum Card Stock. I cut the love out with the Expressions Thinlits Dies from Gold Foil Sheet and adhered it with 2-Way Glue. I also used some more Gold Foil Sheet to cut out two butterflies with the Beautiful Wings Embosslit and some Stampin’ Dimensionals adhere them to the card. I like the change of backing the darker card stock with vanilla and I do love some vellum! Thanks for stopping by to see my card for this week’s Freshly Made Sketches challenge! You guys rock!! I hope that you enjoy your Friday! 🙂

Yesterday was a very quiet day. Not a lot went on and that can be a nice change sometimes. I have to decided whether or not to move my blog to a hosted server today or keep it with WordPress. I will have to do this on Friday at some point because I have left it to the last minute. After reading up on the move on-line it sounds simple and pretty straight forward but we all know how that goes! Hopefully there will be no issues and it will be a smooth transition. Fingers crossed everyone! 🙂

I almost forgot about the Thank You Thursday deals for this week and there are some great Big Shot products for you! Please see below! 🙂

I’m a little late getting my Mojo Monday card up this week but I have it for you today. This week’s sketch is provided by the talented Julee Tilman…

    Mojo316

I went back and forth about what I was going to do with the circle, a rosette, an image, it went on for a while but I finally settled on an image. The base of my card is Rose Red Card Stock, a color that I haven’t used in a very long time. My background is a piece of Modern Medley Designer Series Paper. The strip across the lower half is a piece of Basic Black that I embossed with the Perfect Polkadots Textured Impressions Embossing Folder and backed it with a piece of Rose Red. I adhered a piece of “Vintage” Very Vanilla 1/4″ Grosgrain Ribbon around the back, added the flags that I cut out with the Bitty Banners Framelits Dies and I used Multi-Purpose glue to adhere it to the card. The flower is from the Regarding Dahlias Stamp Set and is stamped in Rose Red and cut out with my Paper Snips. I choose the greeting form the Really Good Greetings Stamp Set, stamped it in Rose Red and backed it with a piece of Basic Black. The little black heart is punched out using the Owl Builder Punch and some Stampin’ Dimensionals hold all of the pieces to the card. Finally I knotted another piece of the ribbon to complete the card. As I’m looking at the card it kind of reminds me of the candy Good ‘n Plenty! LOL! Thank you so much for stopping by to see my Mojo Monday card for this week’s sketch challenge. It’s almost Friday so have a super day! 🙂

  • Paper Craft Crew 64

Yup, it’s Wednesday, halfway there! Yesterday was nice, my boss took my department out to lunch for our hard work that we put into making the Gala on Friday a success. We had some burgers and a very nice time. The weather here is supposed to change today, it’s going to get a lot cooler and rain… boo. Well, it is October so I guess it’s time.

Today I have my Design Team card for this week’s Paper Craft Crew sketch challenge and here is the sketch…

    PCCCS064 10-23-2013

This was one of those times that I had an idea as soon as I saw the sketch, love when that happens! The base of the card is Baked Brown Sugar Card Stock. A piece of paper from the Etcetera Designer Series Paper Pack is used for the background with some Old Olive across the bottom and a piece of Very Vanilla cut out with the Tasteful Trims Bigz XL Die. The main panel is a piece of Very Vanilla backed by Pool Party. The reindeer is from the Warmth and Wonder Host(ess) Stamp Set. All of the other images are from the A Banner Christmas Stamp Set, the Merry is cut out with my Paper Snips and adhered with Stampin’ Dimensionals. The HO-cubed is punched out with the 1 1/4″ Circle Punch and the snowflakes with the 3/4″ Circle Punch. A piece of Baked Brown Sugar 3/8″ Ruffle Stretch Trim Ribbon is adhered around the back and the panel is mounted to the card with Stampin’ Dimensionals. You all know I like an unusual color combination for a Holiday card, and this one certainly fits the bill. I would even go as far to say as it has a little bit of a vintage feel to it. Thanks, as always, for stopping to see my Design Team card for this week’s Paper Craft Crew sketch. Take some time to check out the other Design Team members’ projects on the blog. Have a wonderful Wednesday.

  • SUO Challenges 82

Sometimes my job is absolutely insane, well, most of the time. I work in a very busy department, we “help” out everyone in the building. I’m lucky because I really do like the four people in my department and my boss is just a really good person. Every once in a while when you do go beyond what is really your job something nice happens. There was a presentation today with Pace University and I offered to do the media set up. Our IT Department is mostly useless and I do like to make sure that the CEO and COO don’t look like fools. After the presentation they both thanked me for making myself available to assist and that they knew because I was there it would go smoothly. Amazing how something so simple as a little thanks can make your day. 🙂

Enough blathering! LOL! Today is a busy day at Stampin’ Up! First they have extended the Join for $25 promotion for one more day. It was supposed to end yesterday but now it will end tonight at 11:50 Mountain Time. If you have been on the fence here are some little things that you should know:

Place a $250 or more Demonstrator order in October and earn $25 in additional Host(ess) Rewards.  That means with a $250 product order you would get $65 in in Hostess Rewards instead of the usual $40.

    SU! Weekly Deals 2 10-22-2013

Now for the reason you spend a little time with me, today’s post and it’s for SUO Challenges. This time around we are given a theme… Harvest. When I thought of that I immediately thought of the Harvest of Thanks Stamp Set, I know, genius right?! LOL! I did want to mix it up a little to keep things interesting! For the base of my card I used some Elegant Eggplant Card Stock. A piece of Early Espresso Core’dinations is embossed with the Woodgrain Textured Impressions Embossing Folder and lightly sanded with the Stampin’ Sanding System. Next up is the backdrop for my main image which is made using the Truly Grateful Stamp Set and some Crushed Curry Ink. I stamped the image twice, trimmed it and backed it with a piece of Cherry Cobbler. The main image is from the Harvest of Thanks Stamp Set and I stamped the image three times, once in Cherry Cobbler, again in Elegant Eggplant and finally in Crushed Curry. They are cut out with the Apothecary Accents Framelits Dies and I used my trusty Paper Snips to separate the pieces and then some Stampin’ Dimensionals hold it all together. I like the colors together, especially the brightness of the Elegant Eggplant, I haven’t used that color in a while. I hope that you enjoyed my Design Team card for the theme challenge over at SUO Challenges. Visit the blog to see what the other Design Team members have for inspiration and enter your card in the gallery for us to see. Thanks you so much for visiting today. Have a great Tuesday! 🙂

  • Double Header Monday!

I had a lovely day in Manhattan yesterday. It was a little on the cool side but the speed at which I walk warms me up quite quickly! LOL! I do try to remember to take a picture of anything that I see that strikes me as fun. My friend Isabella told me about this new little shop that opened up on Lexington Avenue called Tinsel. She said it had all kinds of neat things inside and she was right. I took a picture of the storefront, you can see a sampling of some of the goodies along with the reflection of a NYC Taxi. It’s hard to take a picture in NY without getting a Taxi in it! You can just see the sign TINSEL Covered with antique glass glitter in the window…

    Tinsel Lex

It was a really fun shop and they had so many neat goodies, But I behaved! Maybe next time! 😛

So you see from the title of today’s post it’s a double! I realized last night that I hadn’t gotten my Pals Paper Arts card in and it closes today. Where does the week go?! I always post my Paper Players card on Monday so I decided to give you a two fer!

First up is my Pals Paper Arts card for this week’s sketch challenge. A thank you to the very talented Brian for choosing my card as his pick for last week’s color challenge. You can see my original post here and the Pals Paper Arts post here. Now for this week’s sketch…

    PPA 176

An interesting sketch don’t you agree?! I pondered for a while and finally the idea started to form, scary little place my brain is! LOL! The base of my card is Bermuda Bay Card Stock. The top panel is a piece of Sahara Sand that I stamped with the Dictionary Background Stamp in Bermuda Bay. To mix it up a little my diagonal is a piece of Vellum Card Stock with some Brushed Gold behind each side. Some Stampin’ Dimensionals adhere it to the card. The three butterflies were created using a piece of Sahara Sand and little concoction that I mixed up. I took one of my Stampin’ Spritzers and put 18 drops of Bermuda Bay Stampin’ Ink Refill and some of the “Vintage” Champagne Mist Shimmer Paint. I topped it off with some rubbing alcohol and spritzed the Sahara Sand. My Bitty Butterfly Punch set them free from the card stock and some more Stampin’ Dimensionals hold them in place. Across the bottom is another piece of Brushed Gold that I embossed with the Delicate Designs Textured Impressions Embossing Folder. My greeting is from one of the Paper Pumpkin Sets and is heat embossed with Gold Stampin’ Emboss Powder on Bermuda Bay and is backed with more Brushed Gold. I really love the Bermuda Bay with the Gold, it has a rich Tiffany look and the sparkly butterflies are fun too! And that takes care of my Pals Paper Arts card for this week’s sketch challenge.

    PPA 176

Here is a closeup of the butterfly…

    PPA 176

Now on to my Paper Players card for this week’s theme challenge. LeAnne has asked us to make a CAS Masculine card…

    Paper Players #168

I didn’t want to use dark colors, that’s the “traditional” masculine card, I wanted bright! The base of my card is Soft Suede Card Stock. I took a piece of Whisper White and stamped it in Coastal Cabana with the World Map Background Stamp. The scalloped strip of Coastal Cabana on the left is cut out with the Tasteful Trim Bigz XL Die and a strip of Champagne Glimmer Paper is on top. The nautical images are from the The Open Sea Stamp Set (which is actually one of the first sets I purchased!) and are stamped in Soft Suede. The ship is cut out with my Paper Snips and the compass is punched out with the 1 1/4″ Circle Punch. I choose the greeting from the Make a Wish Stamp Set and they are all adhered with Stampin’ Dimensionals. I personally would love to get a card like this for my birthday and I did a survey and the result was the same! LOL! I love the World Map Background Stamp and the Open Sea is still a favorite! Thanks for coming by to see my Paper Players Card for this week’s CAS Masculine challenge from LeAnne! I hope that you enjoyed my Monday Double Header!! Have a crafty day peeps! 🙂

  • Control Freaks October Blog Tour

    freakwelcome2013

Hello everyone and welcome to the October Control Freaks Blog Tour! Our theme for this month’s tour is Gratitude. A very fitting theme seeing as the time of year we are coming up on there are so many things that we all have to be grateful for. The holiday’s help us to stop and remember that. If you are following the tour then you have arrived here from LeeAnne Greff’s blog. When I think of grateful I think of thank you cards so I made a box of thank you cards that are great to have handy or they would make a fun gift for someone.

I saw a tutorial on Pinterest where someone had used the Envelope Punch Board to make a box to hold four cards with envelopes, well, I had to give that a try! The box for the cards is made from Crumb Cake Card Stock that is cut to 9″ x 9″ and then using the Envelope Punch Board it’s scored and punched at 3 1/2″ and 4 1/2″. You then flip it and do the same on the opposite side. For the two remaining sides you follow the score lines from the previous sides and when you are finished you have your box. Some Sticky Strip holds it together and a piece of 1 1/4″ Burlap Ribbon is wrapped around it to hold it closed. I used the Snow Day Stamp Set to stamp my snow man in Whisper White Craft Ink on Soft Sky and cut him out with my Paper Snips. His buttons and face are Basic Black and his nose is Pumpkin Pie. A piece of Sahara Sand and a piece of Soft Sky are cut out with the Deco Labels Collection Framelits Dies. The Soft Sky piece has his arms stamped in Soft Suede on it and its all adhered to the Burlap with Sticky Strip. A little piece of Burlap is also used for his scarf. I did the same process for the four snowmen on the cards. The greeting along the bottom and snowflakes are stamped in Soft Sky on Sahara Sand. The main greeting is from the Lots of Thanks Stamp Set and is stamped in Soft Suede on Soft Sky and punched out with the Label Bracket Punch. Some Crumb Cake Envelopes complete the set. I’m going to use mine as a gift for someone this holiday season. Who couldn’t use a nice set of handmade thank you’s to send out?! I hope that you enjoyed my project for this month’s Control Freaks Blog Tour. Now on to your next stop, up next is Jan Tinklenberg, enjoy! Thanks so much for stopping by here and have a great day! 🙂

  • Just Add Ink 187

Yesterday was a very long day indeed! I did end up working all day and most of it was spent running around so I was quite tired when I got home last night, I definitely needed the extra sleep. I turned out to be a nice day and the event went well. It was held at the Carlyle on the Green at the Bethpage State Park golf course. You may remember that it was the home of the 2002 and 2009 US Open. The event space there is nice and large and has a lovely view of the golf course. I’m very happy that it’s over and that I’m nice and rested so I can enjoy my weekend. I’ll be off to Manhattan tomorrow morning for a bit but I do intend to spend a good part of the weekend crafting. How will you be spending your weekend?

My post for today is for the ladies over at Just Add Ink. A big thank you to them for choosing my card as an honorable mention for last week’s inspiration challenge. You can see my original post here, and the post for the winners here. This week we have a sketch challenge…

    JAI Sketch 187

I was a little perplexed as to what I should do with it at first but once you start, sometimes it just takes on a life of it’s own. My card base is Smoky Slate Card Stock and for the background I used a piece of Very Vanilla stamped with the Snowflake Soiree Stamp Set in Soft Sky and Smoky Slate. Before I adhered the background to the card base, I heat embossed the “Christmas” from the A Banner Christmas Stamp Set in Silver Stampin’ Emboss Powder. For the two panels I used some Silver Foil Sheet and embossed it with the Pretty Print Textured Embossing Folder and backed them with a piece of Soft Sky. Another piece of Silver Foil Sheet is cut out with the Expressions Thinlits Dies and adhered to the card with 2-Way Glue. To finish off the card, I threaded a piece of Silver 1/8″ Ribbon through a Subtles Designer Button and adhered it to the card with a Mini Glue Dot. I love the color combination and it’s frosty feel! And who doesn’t love those Thinlits? I appreciate you taking some time to stop by and see my Just Add Ink card for this week’s sketch challenge. I hope you all have a fun Saturday!

Yesterday was another beautiful day, warm and sunny and then it rained briefly last night. Today we are supposed to get back to the fall feel temperature wise. I need to do some organization over the weekend. There is way too much stuff all over the place. What good things are you guys up to over the weekend?

Do you see the chevrons? I loves me some chevrons! LOL! My card base is Cherry Cobbler Card Stock. The main panel is a piece of paper from the Winter Frost Designer Series Paper Stack backed by a piece of Island Indigo. Some Cherry Cobbler punched out with the Chevron Border Punch is adhered across the panel. The greeting and stamped chevrons across the bottom are from the A Banner Christmas Stamp Set. The ornament is from the Best of Christmas Stamp Set and is stamped in Island Indigo and punched out with the Christmas Ornament Punch. And there you have it, a nice simple card for a nice simple sketch. I appreciate you stopping by to see my Fab Friday card! • Freshly Made Sketches 108

Last night I went to Chili’s for dinner with my friend Danielle and then we went to see my friend Andrew perform with his A Cappella group at the Long Island Children’s Museum. They opened for another group called Cluster. Both of them were amazing! It really is incredible what they do, they make it sound like there are instruments involved and there aren’t any. You can check out cluster on iTunes and you can see my friend Andrew and his group perform by clicking here.

Now for today’s post which is for this week’s Freshly Made Sketches. This week’s sketch is provided by Narelle…

    Freshly Made Sketches #108

Pretty neat layout huh?! The base of my card is Old Olive Card Stock. I used a small piece of paper from the Season of Style Designer Series Paper Stack for the background. The strip of Cherry Cobbler that goes across the middle is embossed with the Delicate Designs Textured Impressions Embossing Folder. My panel in the middle starts off with a piece of Old Olive and adhered to to of that is a piece of Gold Foil Sheet. The flags are more Gold Foil Sheet that I cut out with the Bitty Banners Framelits Dies. For the greeting I stamped the got mistletoe from the Very Merry Tags Stamp Set in Old Olive and used the Extra Large Oval Punch to punch it out. Some Cherry Cobbler Dazzling Details fills in the berries and the lips are from the Best of Love Stamp Set and are stamped in Cherry Cobbler and adhered with a Stampin’ Dimensional. Sometimes you just need a traditional holiday card and the Gold Foil Sheet pairs really nicely with the Old Olive and Cherry Cobbler. Thanks for taking a little time to stop by and see my card for this week’s Freshly Made Sketches challenge from Narelle. Enjoy your Thursday! 🙂
