  • Black Soiree Feather Hello

    TGIS! LOL! My Friday was quite busy! I had to print out some posters at work in the morning and then do my monthly 56 mile field trip to deliver them to our other locations. I also had to stop at one of our new affiliates and take pictures of their sign, It needs to be replaced. On my way back to the office I had a little car trouble. I called my dad and he came and had it fixed in about five minutes! The man is just incredible! What did he use? A pocket knife and screwdriver. He is like MacGuyver! I stopped back at the office to take care of some last minute things and then went and got a much needed haircut. I came back home and had some dinner and Andrew stopped by for a bit. Always a welcome addition to any day! After he left I went over and saw my friend Maureen, we ran some errands and then I came home and puttered on the computer for a bit. I love when a busy day ends so nicely and today is going to be a lot of fun! I have the Unite and Excite event in Hauppauge and they were kind enough to send Donna Griffith!! Love Donna and I can’t wait to see her in my neck of the woods! It will be great to get to meet some of the other Demos from the area too! I’m looking forward to it! I’l let you all know what goes on tomorrow! 🙂

    The card that I have for you today is one that was just for fun. I love those Feather Framelits as you well know and some black, white and gold is always fun. Here is what that combination resulted in! The card base is Whisper White Card Stock cut to 3 3/4″ wide for tall skinny card! I took a piece of Basic Black and used the Circles Collection Framelits to cut off just the bottom and mounted the panel to the card with Stampin’ Dimensionals. The feathers are made with some Gold Soiree Specialty Designer Series Paper and Gold Foil Sheet cut out with the Feathers Framelits. I adhered them to each other and to the panel with Stampin’ Dimensionals. For my greeting I used one of the stamps from the Endless Birthday Wishes Photopolymer Stamp Set. I heat embossed it in Black Stampin’ Emboss Powder on Bushed Gold Metallic Card Stock and tucked it under the feathers on the right. To finish off the card I used some Gold Baker’s Twine and a few matte black and gold sequins. Black and Gold are just such elegant colors and the White just makes them pop!   • Pals Paper Arts 218

    Happy Friday my friends! TGIF for sure! It was another extremely busy day at work yesterday but I did manage to get all the things done that I wanted to. After work I had some dinner with my parents and then came home and sat outside and went though my comments and email just enjoying the nice evening. Around 7:30 I got a text from my friend Chantal asking if I was up for a rescue mission. I said sure why not. Apparently the trains were all delayed and some cancelled so she got on a train the let her off at the station by my house. I went over and picked her up and she asked if she could see my apartment and I said of course! We came back to my house and I gave her the “grand tour”, LOL! I haven’t see Chantal in a while so we spent some much needed time catching up. I showed her some pictures of Daniel and she some of her granddaughter Chloe. I drove her home around 10:00 and played some Sam Smith for her, she hadn’t heard him! When we got to her house she said that she would be going inside and downloading his album immediately. She also said that she hasn’t had any new music in a while and that was because she hadn’t seen me! It was such a nice surprise to get to rescue her and spend some time together. Love when things like that happen!

    Speaking of Daniel, my brother took this super cute picture of him the other day, I just love the cap and his amazing little smile!

    After I got back from dropping off Chantal I decided that I needed to make my Pals Paper Arts card for this week’s color challenge…

    I had an idea in my head as to what I wanted to do so I set out to see if I could make it happen! My card today is a bit longer than usual, it measures 6″ by 4 1/4″. The base is Crumb Caked Card Stock and so is the background that I embossed with the Woodgrain Textured Impressions Embossing Folder. I decide that I wanted to make a dreamcatcher. I used my Circles Collection Framelits to cut out a piece of Coaster Board and a piece of Hello Honey. Some Linen Thread is looped around the Coaster Board randomly, I wanted it have a simple handmade look, I used the piece of Hello Honey to cover the top. My feathers are from the Four Feathers Stamp Set and are heat embossed with Gold Stampin’ Emboss Powder on Blackberry Bliss. I also cut some out of Brushed Gold and adhered them off to the side behind the Blackberry Bliss ones. Some more Linen Thread ties them to the hoop. The greeting is from the “Vintage” Loving Thoughts Stamp Set and is also heat embossed in Gold Stampin’ Emboss Powder and cut out with the Bitty Banners Framelits. Stampin’ Dimensional pieces adhere it to the hoop. A few sequins from the Gold Sequin Trim are adhered to the Linen Thread in the hoop and a piece of Post-It Tape holds the string around the back of the card just in case the recipient wants to take it off and hang it. I just can’t stop heat embossing lately can I?! I’m loving the texture that it gives to images and greetings! So there is my late night card for this week’s Pals Paper Arts color challenge.   • Freshly Made Sketches 152

    That was a busy Wednesday! Work was back to crazy, just like I like it… NOT! After work was nice though. I met Heather and we went to Chili’s for dinner. I haven’t been there since the Polar Vortex! We had the 2 for $35 dinner and margarita special. It also came with dessert and we had the peanut butter skillet cookie with vanilla ice cream and caramel drizzle! YUM! After dinner we went to Lowes to get Heather a new lock for her front door. We laughed about silly things while I installed it. It’s one of those with a keypad and the instructions aren’t very helpful but we finally got it working. I came home, had some coffee and made my card for today. A nice end to a busy day!

    Speaking of my card it’s for this week’s Freshly Made Sketches challenge and here is the sketch…

    Very simple, I like that sometimes! For my card I started with a base of Smoky Slate Card Stock and my background is a piece of Blackberry Bliss that I embossed with the Lucky Stars Textured Impressions Embossing Folder. My strip across the lower portion of the card is Smoky Slate that I punched with the Confetti Stars Border Punch. I used the Stars Framelits to cut out a piece of Silver Foil Sheet and then pierced around the edge with the Eclectic Paper-Piercing Pack. My greeting is from the Hello There Stamp Set and is heat embossed in Smoky Slate Stampin’ Emboss Powder. The Starburst Framelits are used to cut it out and it and the star are adhered to the card with Stampin’ Dimensionals. Simple but sweet! LOL! I like the way the Silver Foil plays off of the Smoky Slate and with all of the stars goodies we have now it’s so easy to make a fun card!   • Paper Craft Crew 108

    First days back to work after a long weekend are usually not that great but mine was! I had to go out to East Hampton to the school that we have there and set up a loop on one of the TV’s using the new hardware and software that I recommended. It’s a 75 mile trip each way and once you get to certain point on the road that goes out there it’s one lane and very slow moving. But, it was a nice sunny, if not very hot and humid day. Top down in the car and the music up nice and loud made for a good if not long ride. It was the day before classes start so the staff was there and they got everyone pizza for lunch. I picked a good day to go out there! LOL! I got the setup done in about 2 1/2 hours and then headed home. You wouldn’t know that Long Island really is long until you head out to the Hamptons! It’s still the place to go after all of these years, I have friends that have houses out there and I have been out in the summer but it’s way too crowded for me. I like to go out in the fall, there are less people but still things to do and places to go. I do love a field trip as you all know! 😀

    It’s Wednesday (already!) and that means that today is my post for the Paper Craft Crew Design Team blog. This week we have a fun sketch for you…

    PCCCS108- Sketch 9-03-2014

    At first I though postage stamps for the two squares and then I decided that was too obvious so I dusted off an oldie but goodie! For my card base I used a piece of Smoky Slate Card Stock with a small strip of Pool Party going down the left side. The panel in the middle is a piece of Lost Lagoon and I heat embossed the sentiment/image from the Seasonally Scattered Stamp Set in White Stampin’ Emboss Powder. It’s backed with a piece of Cherry Cobbler and mounted to the card with Stampin’ Dimensionals. My two snowflakes are from the “Vintage” Festive Flurry Stamp Set, they are heat embossed in Pool Party and cut out with the “Vintage” Festive Flurry Framelits. I flagged a piece of Whisper White and heat embossed the greeting on it from the Good Greetings Host Stamp Set in Cherry Cobbler Stampin’ Emboss Powder. Some Dimensionals go behind the snowflakes and flagged greeting and hold them in place. To complete the card I place three enamel dots up in the right corner. The Seasonally Scattered Stamp Set is really cool and looks especially good heat embossed on a darker color, really makes the sentiment stand out and I still love those snowflakes! The card has a somewhat tailored masculine feel to it, wouldn’t you agree?!     Those three day weekends always just fly by, not quite as fast as the two day ones but quick none the less! I did have a very nice weekend and hope that all of you did too. Since yesterday was an “extra” day I did some things around the house, ran some errands and got caught up on a few projects. A well rounded day I think! I did also start working on my mixed media project, I’m pretty happy with the way it’s coming along. I could spend the whole day in the Stampin’ Galley and be quite content! What all did you do this weekend?

    I have been on a Holiday card kick lately, I know, it’s a little early but I’m having so much fun with the goodies in the Holiday Catalog I just can’t help it! Today’s card is for this week’s Mojo Monday sketch…

    When I looked at the sketch I knew what colors and stamp set I wanted to use, I just had to figure out how it would all come together. My card starts off with a base of Mossy Meadow Card Stock and the background is just a simple piece of Whisper White. The panel to the left is a piece of paper from the Subtles Designer Series Paper Pack. Next up is a thin strip of Silver Glimmer Paper that goes just below the center across. All of the images and greetings are from the Letterpress Winter Photopolymer Stamp Set. The panel on the right is Mossy Meadow and I heat embossed the image in Pool Party Stampin’ Emboss Powder. The circle consist of a piece of Mossy Meadow under a piece of Vellum Card Stock, both cut out with the Circles Collection Framelits, with another one of the images again heat embossed in Pool Party on the Vellum. The greeting is heat embossed with White Stampin’ Emboss Powder and punched out with the 1 1/4″ Circle Punch. My flagged greeting is also Vellum and heat embossed with White Stampin’ Emboss Powder. I love the Pool Party and the Mossy Meadow together, such a fun combination. I also love all of the heat embossing, it gives the card such nice texture and shine! And that’s my card for this week’s Mojo Monday sketch challenge. I hope that you enjoyed it and will forgive my abundance of early Holiday cards! Thanks for the visit, as always!   • Paper Players 211 & The Creative Blog Hop!

    Hello peeps! It’s so nice to have off on Monday isn’t it?! I am thoroughly enjoying my weekend and hope that you are too. I went into Manhattan last night for some dinner at my friends Bev and Jason’s apartment. They are the people that my friend Kim watches the dogs for when they go away for the weekend. Always a good time but a late night! Andrew retrieved me from the train station and brought me home. Such a good guy. Today I have been asked to be part of a fun little blog hop called the Creative Blog Hop. I’m honored that my friend Sandy Mathis has tagged me to participate! You may have heard about it already, but if not, it is a venue for crafters of all kinds to talk about ourselves a bit and hopefully make a few new friends along the way. Sandy has a great blog called Stamp with Sandy. She posts regularly and is quite the talented stamper and a very good friend! You can see her post for the Creative Blog Tour here and then make sure and take a look at the rest of her posts!

    The hop asks us to answer four questions about ourselves so here goes!

    What am I working on now?

    I’m always working on lots of things at the same time! I have my weekly Design Team commitments, Blog Tours and regular posts. I’m actually starting to get interested in Mixed Media and got some supplies on Saturday so I’m going to give that a try. What doesn’t kill us makes us more creative right?!?!

    How does my work differ from others?

    I think that we all have a certain style of card making that we love, mine is collage. I love to see how I can get different elements to work together and look cohesive. I also enjoy lots of other styles and try to be as varied in my projects as I can. We have to keep it interesting not only for our wonderful readers but for ourselves too!

    Why do I create what I do?

    I started making cards as a creative outlet. I think that paper crafting is a great way to express yourself and it helps me relax. My creativity has turned into a loyal following of blog readers that I have gotten to know over the past few years and now can call them friends. So I guess the best reason that I can think of why I do what I do is to stay connected to my peeps!

    How does my creative process work?

    I spend a lot of time looking on Pinterest and SplitCoast. I get inspiration form the world around me too. I can be walking down the street in Manhattan and see a sign or building and that can inspire me with colors or shapes. I also am lucky in that I have a photographic memory., I can sometimes put a card together on the train on the way home or while I’m sitting at my desk at work all in my head.

    Hi, my name is Carolyn. I’m Mother of 2 gorgeous girls and I’ve been married for 29 years. I have a passion for paper. I started Scrapbooking in 2001 and Cardmaking followed in 2002 and quickly took over. I’ve been teaching ever since. I joined Stampin Up in May 2009 and absolutely love the products and the friendships I’m making.

    Carolyn and I have become good friends even though she lives on the other side of the world! We often FaceTime and I have even been lucky enough to have received some TimTams in the mail! Love my little Aussie!

    Now on to our regularly scheduled programming! Even though it doesn’t feel like Monday it is! That’s a good thing! So if it’s Monday that means it’s time for the Paper Players challenge. This week it’s a Tic-Tac-Toe challenge from Nance…

    I went with the first row down. Sometimes you just need a bright, cheerful birthday card so that what I did. The base of the card is Daffodil Delight Card Stock, I rounded the corners on it and the next layer of Pumpkin Pie with the Project Life Corner Rounder. On top of the Pumpkin Pie I have a piece of Sweet Taffy Designer Series Paper that I cut out with the Project Life Card and Labels Framelits. I ran it through the Big Shot again using the Circles Collection Framelits to cut out the notch on the left side. My cupcake is from the Cupcake Party Stamp Set and is stamped in Daffodil Delight and Melon Mambo and punched out with the Cupcake Builder Punch. I mounted it to a piece of Tempting Turquoise that I punched out with the 1 3/4″ Circle Punch. It’s tucked into the notch and adhered to the card with Stampin’ Dimensionals. The greeting is from the same set and is stamped in Rich Razzleberry and I again used the Project Life Cards and Labels Framelits to cut it out, Stampin’ Dimensionals hold it in place too. I felt it needed a little something more so I used my Rich Razzleberry and Melon Mambo Stampin’ Blendabilities Markers to color some Basic Jewels Pearls. I put some tiny ones on the cupcake and then “scattered” some around the card. Like I said, bright , cheery and simple, a great card to liven up someones birthday, don’t you think?! I hope that you enjoyed my Creative Blog Hop post and Paper Players card for today! I’m very lucky to have you all come by and visit with me, I appreciate it and it makes my days much better!   • Freshly Made Sketches 151

    It’s so nice when Sunday rolls around and you realize that tomorrow is not a work Monday! Wee! I had a lovely day yesterday, I took the advice of a friend and sat outside with my coffee and laptop and relaxed and enjoyed the outdoors in the morning. Around 12:30 Sandy stopped by and we had some lunch. She brought a yummy Italian hero with her from a deli near her house. After lunch we headed to the Animal Shelter in Babylon to see if they had any news about her cat Oreo. He went missing at the beginning of August, but we still hope that he will turn up. The lady at the shelter told us that her cat was gone for a year! She said that she thinks that he was on vacation in the Hamptons! LOL! I hope that Oreo does come back. After the shelter we stopped at a scrapbook store and had nice chat with the lady that worked there. She asked if I we might be interested in teaching card classes, now that would be fun! I’ll keep you posted as to what becomes of that. I ran to Michaels when I got home and picked up some supplies, I want to start working on multimedia projects, I’ll keep you posted on them too! For dinner, I met my friend Maureen at Friday’s and then we ran to Walmart. Not an overly exciting day but I enjoyed it!

    Freshly Made Sketches #151

    I sort of took a little creative license with the sketch, I have wanted to use a new stamp set that I got and this seemed to work for it! My card begins with a base of Daffodil Delight Card Stock. The background is a piece of Sahara Sand that I embossed with my favorite, the Woodgrain Textured Impressions Embossing Folder. I sponged on some Soft Suede to make the grain stand out. All of the images are from the Yee Haw! Photopolymer Stamp Set, and yes they are all cut out with my Paper Snips, including the barb wire! I stamped them all in Memento Tuxedo Black and colored them in with my Smoky Slate, Crumb Cake and Daffodil Delight Stampin’ Blendabilities Markers. The barb wire is stamped on Smoky Slate. The lasso with the greeting are adhered to the card with SNAIL and all of the other elements are adhered with Stampin’ Dimensionals. I really like the Yee Haw! Stamp Set, so many fun western images and I think it goes perfect with the Woodgrain EF! I hope that you enjoyed my card for this week’s Freshly Made Sketches challenge.   • Can You Case It? 34

    That was a good Friday! I managed to escape the office for 3 hours! I had to go to one of our other locations and set up an iPad and mount for someone in a wheelchair with Cerebral Palsy. She was quite happy with her new gadget. After that I stopped by the Apple store to exchange a keyboard that stopped working. They are so nice there, never any issues just a smile and a thank you. To top it off they released us at 3:30! I came home and took a nap! LOL! I only got about 4 hours of sleep the night before so I needed it! Taylor came by with her new car and we went to Target to get her some floor mats. I found a new Glade Plug-in that smells amazing, it’s called Woodside Library. Here is their description, “Quiet and comfortable, a window seat at the town library provides a perfect nesting place on a crisp fall day. Cozy up, settle in and enjoy the scent of rich oak and vintage leather-bound volumes”. It has a classically clean scent and it’s not floral which is a nice change! I’m going to spend some time crafting today and then who knows. What are your plans for the weekend?

    A while back my friend Eva had asked me if I would be a guest designer on her challenge blog called Can You CaseIt? I said that I would love to and so that’s what today’s card is for. Here is this week’s sketch…

    Nice and simple don’t you think? I started my card with a base of Pool Party Card Stock. The background is a piece of paper from the All Abloom Designer Series Paper Stack and I backed it with a piece of Blackberry Bliss. A strip of Pool Party is embossed with the Decorative Dots Textured Impressions Embossing Folder and goes down the right side. For my greeting I stamped a stamp from the Hi There Stamp Set in Blackberry Bliss on Whisper White and backed it with another piece of Blackberry Bliss. The feathers are from the Four Feathers Stamp Set and are stamped in Blackberry Bliss and cut out with the Feathers Framelits. A Subtles Designer Button is adhered with a Glue Dot on top of the bottom of the feathers. I used the sequins die that I got the other day to cut out some Blackberry Bliss and put some Crystal Effects on the and adhered them to the left of the greeting. I really love the colors together, cheery without being too bright and you all know how much I love the feathers! So there you have my Guest Designer card for the Can You Case It? sketch challenge for this week.   • Fab Friday 49

    Hi everyone! It’s Friday!! You know how I feel about my Friday! I get to run some errands at work today too! It’s going to be a great Friday! Yesterday was as good as I made it! LOL! I came home and saw little Daniel for a bit. He just wants to go go go! I think that he will be walking in no time. He is so cute I can’t stand it! Last night was very good, it was Hunger Games – Catching Fire movie night with Andrew. I knew that he wouldn’t like the ending, it kind of leaves you hanging and he likes to have closure. But he had to see the movie and he did really like it! I told him only a few months until part one of the third book comes out. I will have to make sure that if we watch a series they are all available on iTunes from now on! I said it’s something to look forward to and now I’m guaranteed that we will see that one in the theater! 🙂

    Good news! It’s a Fab Friday challenge day too! This time around we have a sketch for you…

    Fab Fri 49 8-29-2014

    Fun and simple, I stayed really true to the sketch too! My card base for today’s card is Sahara Sand Card Stock and across the bottom is a strip of Crushed Curry that I embossed with the Woodgrain Textured Impressions Embossing Folder. The two flagged strips are Basic Black and Tangerine Tango. I wrapped a piece of Basic Black Baker’s Twine around the card and tied it in a bow on the left side. The main panel is a piece of the Motley Monsters Designer Series Paper backed with a piece of Basic Gray. My three happy little pumpkins are from the Fall Fest Photopolymer Stamp Set and are stamped in Tangerine Tango and Memento Tuxedo Black. The Fun Fall Framelits cut them out and some Stampin’ Dimensionals adhere them to the card. After I put the card together I realized that I forgot a greeting! Thankfully the Holiday Home Photopolymer Stamp Set made it easy for me to stamp the greeting on the panel even though it was already adhered to the card! A fun fall card and the pumpkins are just the cutest aren’t they?! There is my Design Team card for this week’s Fab Friday sketch challenge and I hope that you enjoyed it!     A very happy Thursday to all of my faithful blog readers! We are almost at the end of another week! I made yesterday a better day all around and it was made even better when I got home, I’ll get to that in a minute! I got what I wanted to get accomplished at work and smiled my way through the day. I took my own advice, it helped that I got to run a little errand and enjoy the convertible too! When I got home last night I sat down to go through Pinterest and guess what?!     Let’s start today’s post off with my card for this week’s Mojo Monday sketch…

    Tall and Skinny, we know how I love those! I wanted a clean but fun card so this is what I came up with. The base of the card is Whisper White Card Stock. My background consists of a piece of Smoky Slate on the left and Lost Lagoon on the right. The panel in the middle begins with a piece of Soft Sky that I embossed with the Woodgrain Textured Impressions Embossing Folder and adhered to the card with SNAIL. On top of that is a piece of Whisper White with some All is Calm Specialty Designer Series Paper. I used the Ovals Collection Framelits to cut out the center and adhered it to the base with Stampin’ Dimensionals. The “snow” and the snowflake are cut out in Silver Foil Sheet and Dazzling Diamonds Glimmer Paper using the Snowflake Card Thinlits. I mounted the silver “snow” to the woodgrain with itty bitty pieces of Stampin’ Dimensionals and then used some Multi-Purpose Glue to adhere the Dazzling Diamonds on top but slightly lower. A strip of Silver Foil Sheet with a thin strip of Dazzling Diamonds Glimmer Paper goes across the lower portion and the snowflakes are adhered on top of one another to that. A few of the snowflakes from the Frosted Sequins are randomly adhered to the woodgrain and three of the silver ones in the lower right corner. I really love all of the sparkle with the blues and how the center panel just comes alive! The card has a lot of detail but I think was well worth it!     Now on to my card for the Control Freaks 2014 Holiday Catalog swap. I was siting in the Stampin’ Galley trying to think what I was going to make for my swap card. I was doing my usual taking out and putting back of goodies when I came across the Mustache Framelit. As I looked at it I started to see a mask. I then tried a few different ways to cut out the eye holes and settled on the tiny oval that comes with the Chalk Talk Framelits. The base of the card is Basic Black Card Stock and the background is a piece of Tangelo Twist. I used the Confetti Stars Border Punch along the top edge before adhering it to the base. The mask is the Mustache Framelit. I stamped one of the feathers from the Four Feathers Stamp Set in Versa-Mark on Vellum Card Stock and heat embossed it with Gold Stampin’ Emboss Powder. The Feathers Framelits are used to cut it and a piece of Champagne Glimmer Paper out and a Glue Dot holds them to the back of the mask. I adhered the mask with Stampin’ Dimensionals and the greeting is from the Holiday Invitation Photopolymer Stamp Set and is stamped in Memento Tuxedo Black. I love the colors and the “mask” is just really neat! I think it would make a pretty cool Halloween party invite!
