  • Control Freaks August Blog Tour

    freakwelcome2013

Hello there and welcome to the Control Freaks August Blog Tour! We are so glad to have you along. This month we are featuring products from the 2013 Holiday Catalog. If you are following the tour then you have arrived here from the amazing Julie Davidson’s blog. She has cool stuff didn’t she? I have been having lots of fun playing with all of the goodies in the Holiday Catalog and I have also been having lots of fun with the new Thinlits Dies. I have a card for you today that uses the Thinlits and two fun projects that use Vellum.

First up we have the card. When they introduced the Thinlits at Convention I knew that I was going to love them and I was right! They are so much fun to play with and not just to make the cards. The elements they come with are great too! The base of my card is Smoky Slate Card Stock and I used the Circle Card Thinlits Die to cut it out. The circle in the middle starts off with a piece of Costal Cabana that I punched out with the 2 1/2″ Circle Punch. I used the scallop circle from the Thinlits set to cut out a piece of Silver Glimmer Paper. The snowflake is from the Festive Flurry Stamp Set and is cut out with the Festive Flurry Framelits Dies. The circle of Glimmer paper is cut out using the Circles Collection Framelits Dies. I adhered only the left side so that when you flip the card it circles the greeting which is from the Christmas Messages Stamp Set and is stamped in Costal Cabana. The greeting is from the Joy to the World Stamp Set and is stamped in Smoky Slate. A strip of Silver Glimmer Paper, the one on the left is punched with the Scallop Edge Punch, finish the card off with some more sparkle. I love the way the circle flips around to surround the greeting too!

Next up I have a simple Votive Holder that I made with some Vellum Card Stock and my Simply Scored Scoring Tool. Another one of the snowflakes from the Festive Flurry Stamp set is stamped in Costal Cabana on Vellum and cut out with the Festive Flurry Framelits Dies. I used the Boho Blossom Punch to punch out the piece of Silver Glimmer Paper in the center, it fits just perfectly! A nice simple way to dress up a table or mantle for the Holidays!

Control Freaks August Blog Tour Votive

Finally I have a quick project that you could use as an ornament or to hang in a window. I stamped the Wonderful Wreath in Costal Cabana on more Vellum Card Stock and cut it out with the Circles Collection Framelits Dies. The berries are colored in with my Cherry Cobbler Stampin’ Write Marker. I used the Expressions Thinlits Dies to cut out Merry from some more Costal Cabana and adhered it to the wreath with 2-Way Glue. It looks really neat with some light behind it and could also easily be used on a card front or a gift package.

I hope that you enjoyed my card and projects for this month’s Control Freaks Blog Tour and that you are inspired to go and play with some goodies from the Holiday Catalog! Next up for you crafty pleasure we have the talented LeeAnn Greff. I’ll bet you can’t wait to see what she has in store for you! Thanks for hopping by and enjoy the rest of the tour! 🙂

  • Paper Players 159

Ahh.. Monday, I see you are back again. I wish you were a little more considerate of Saturday and Sunday and let them take their time leaving! How was your weekend? Mine was pretty nice. I had my Manhattan outing on Saturday and I spent a lot of time crafting which always makes me a happy boy. The weather here yesterday was overcast and it drizzled from time to time but a pretty good day none the less.

Today’s post is for this week’s Paper Players challenge and Ann has given us a one layer card…

    Paper Players #159

I do love to make a one layer card! It can be a real challenge, especially if you like to layer things up an pile on the embellishments, but who doesn’t like to go outside their comfort zone?! The base of my card is Very Vanilla Card Stock. I created a mask for where I stamped the sentiment with some printer paper. I stamped the Magnificent Maple Stamp in Crumb Cake, Cajun Craze, Crushed Curry, Rich Razzleberry, Early Espresso and Real Red randomly on the card. After I lifted the mask I used my Stamp-a-ma-jig to position the greeting from the Thankful Stamp and stamped it in Rich Razzleberry. To create the outline I used my Early Espresso Stampin’ Write Marker and a ruler. After I finished the card I went on to make a few other projects and when I looked at it again I could swear the greeting looked separate! Thank you so much for coming by today to see my card for this week’s CAS Single Layer card from Ann. Have a good Monday! 🙂

  • Just Add Ink 178

Good morning! I had a lovely day in the city yesterday with my friend Kim. We went to the diner for some breakfast, I had pancakes and they were delicious. We then headed to the subway to make our way down to Soho and wandered around for a couple of hours. I picked up my belated birthday gift for my friend Danielle and we had some yogurt from the Chobani store. I choose figs and walnuts with honey and they give it to you in a glass  bowl that you get to keep. We wandered around some more and I got a picture of the Freedom Tower that will be completed soon. After that we went to Washington Square Park. The park used to be really rundown and not a very nice place to go but they have cleaned it up nicely. I took a picture of the arch and if you look you can see the Empire State Building through the middle. For lunch we went to an organic hummus place called nanoosh. I had a hummus and falafel bowl that was quite tasty and Kim had one with chicken that was also good. Before I headed home we got my car and picked up Kim’s friend Maggie and went to the Target at Riverside Plaza. It’s nice to go there with the car because then they don’t have to lug all of the packages home on the bus or pay for a cab. All in all it was a very nice day! Below are the two pictures I mentioned…

    Freedom Tower

    Washington Square Park Arch

For today’s card I wanted to try the Just Add Ink challenge, just add snowflakes, for this week. I also wanted a simple card with a little bit of a different color combination. The base of the card is Cherry Cobbler Card Stock. For the background I used the World Map Stamp and stamped it in Costal Cabana on Whisper White. The snowflake is from the Festive Flurry Stamp Set and is stamped in Smoky Slate and cut out with the Festive Flurry Framelits Dies. I choose the greeting from the Joy to the World Stamp Set, stamped in Cherry Cobbler, because I thought it went really well with the map stamp. A little fussy cutting with my Paper Snips and some 2-Way Glue and Stampin’ Dimensionals to hold the snowflake and the greeting to the card and it’s finished. If you like a little fussy cutting this would be a nice easy card to mass produce for your Holiday cards. Thanks you very much for stopping by to see my Just Add Ink card for the just add snowflakes challenge. I hope you enjoyed my Manhattan pictures and card. Have a wonderful Sunday! 🙂

  • Pals Paper Arts 168

A very good Saturday morning to you! The weather here is still gorgeous, nice and cool at night and not too hot during the day. Hopefully it holds out. It would be so nice if it could be like this year round. I’m off to Manhattan this morning to see my friend Kim. We’ll get some breakfast and then wander around for a while. I’m thinking I would like some Mediterranean food for lunch. I’ll see if I can find anything interesting to take a picture of and post it tomorrow. 🙂

For today’s post I have my Pals Paper Arts card for this week’s sketch challenge…

    PPA 168

The base of today’s card is Smoky Slate Card Stock. I used a piece of the Winter Frost Designer Series Paper Stack for the background. The greeting is from the More Messages Stamp Set and is stamped in Island Indigo. I used the Christmas Collectibles Stamp Set to stamp an ornament in Island Indigo and punch it out with the Holiday Ornament Punch. The second ornament is from the Ornament Keepsakes Stamp Set and is stamped in Pool Party and cut out with the Holiday Ornaments Framelits Dies. A stamp from the A Round Array Stamp Set is stamped in Smoky Slate and punched out with the 7/8″ Scallop Circle Punch. A few Basic Jewels Rhinestones around the greeting and on the ornaments finishes off the card. I love the simplicity and the colors are fast becoming a holiday favorite of mine. Thanks very much for paying me a visit today to see my Pals Paper Arts card for this week’s sketch challenge. I hope that you have a fun little outing planned today too and that you enjoy your Saturday!

  • Freshly Made Sketches #99 and Create with Connie and Mary 264

Hmm… I wonder what day it is today? Could it be… FRIDAY?!?! Yes kids, it’s Friday, my favorite day of the week. Weather here, gorgeous. Weekend plans, Manhattan on Saturday and craftiness on Sunday! What are you people up to?

Today’s post is something I haven’t done before and that’s combine two challenges. I used the sketch from Freshly Made Sketches and the colors from Create with Connie and Mary. So here’s this week’s inspiration…

    Freshly Made Sketches #99CCMC 264

For the base of my card I stamped the Travel Journal Builder Wheel in Smoky Slate on Smoky Slate Card Stock. The panel in the middle is a piece of Venetian Romance Designer Series Paper backed with some Blushing Bride. All of the elements on the card are from the Circle Card and Label Card Thinlits Dies cut from Blushing Bride. The circles are cut out with the Circles Collection Framelits Dies from Smoky Slate. For a little sparkle I used the Small Heart Punch to punch out some Silver Glimmer Paper and adhered it with a Stampin’ Dimensional on the i heart u. I’m really having a lot of fun playing with the new Thinlits Dies and I love that the elements work so well even when you don’t use the actual card base. Thanks so much for stopping by today to see my combined Freshly Made Sketches and Create with Connie and Mary Challenge card. As always, I appreciate your visit and hope that you have an awesome Friday! 🙂

  • Mojo 306

Hello peeps! It was an absolutely gorgeous day here on Long Island yesterday. Temps in the 70’s and plenty of sunshine. Days like that make it hard to stay in work all day, but I managed to! What’s going on by you? Only one more day until my favorite day and then off to the weekend! Not sure what I’m going to be doing but I’m thinking I might like a little trip into Manhattan to see my friend Kim. 🙂

Now on to today’s post which is for this week’s Mojo Monday sketch. The lovely Julee Tilman has given us this…

    Mojo306

The base of my card is Whisper White Card Stock. The background consists of a piece of Soft Sky on top and some Sweater Weather Designer Series Paper on the lower half. In the center is a Tea Lace Paper Doily with some Tangerine Tango, cut out with the Circles Framelits Dies, that I embossed with the Woodgrain Textured Impressions Embossing Folder. The stamped image is from the Tags 4 You Stamp Set and is stamped in Early Espresso and punched out with the Bracket Label Punch. Behind it is a piece of Whisper White that is stamped with the image from the Truly Grateful Stamp Set in Crushed Curry and backed with a piece of Early Espresso. A flagged piece of Crushed Curry with some Naturals 7/16″ Trim Ribbon goes across the center. I threaded a Naturals Designer Button with Linen Thread and adhered it with a Mini Glue Dot in the center to finish off the card. I’m really liking the fall colors and the Sweater Weather DSP is pretty neat too! Thanks for taking some time out of your day to stop by and see my Mojo Monday Sketch Card for this week’s challenge! I hope you have an enjoyable Thursday!

  • Paper Craft Crew 54

Ahh Wednesday! I like to think of Wednesday as the crest of the hill, now we are just sliding into Friday! Well, we didn’t get the torrential rain out here on Long Island like they said we would. It did rain here and there during the day and after 11:00 last night but not for very long. We are now going to start a stretch of lovely weather again! Yeah! Work was definitely much better today, it was actually pleasant! How are things going by you? Hope all is well!

Today’s post is for this week’s Paper Craft Crew Challenge. This week we have a nice sketch for you…

    PCCCS054 8-14-2013

I deviated slightly from the sketch but kept the layout the same. The base of the card is Pool Party Card Stock. I took a piece of Crumb Cake and cut the middle out with the Oval Collection Framelits Dies and put a piece of Window Sheet over it. Some Epic Day This & That Designer Series Paper is adhered to the card base and the Crumb Cake piece is adhered over it with Stampin’ Dimensionals. I cut the YOU out with the Typeset Alphabet Bigz Dies from Calypso Coral and they too are adhered with Stampin’ Dimensionals. The greeting is from the One in a Million Stamp Set and is markered in Calypso Coral. I used my Stamp-a-ma-jig to put them next to each other. A thin sliver of the Epic Day This & That DSP is under that. I really like the way the YOU floats over the DSP and the colors are nice and soft. Thanks for checking out my Design Team card for this week’s Paper Craft Crew Sketch Challenge. Don’t forget to visit the blog to see what my teammates have come up with and enter your card so we can see your creative take! I hope that you enjoy your Wednesday! 🙂

  • SUO Challenges 77

Rain, rain go away come again another day. Hello there! It’s  going to rain here and it is supposed to be heavy at times so that should make for a fun day! I have been spoiled by all the beautiful weather we have been having lately. So let’s see, work was insane yesterday, not the best way to start off the week. I’m hoping that I got all of the craziness out of the way and the rest of the week will be smooth sailing. Now that is wishful thinking! LOL!

For today’s post I have my project for SUO Challenges and this time it’s birthday’s…

    happy-birthday-1

It was my boss’ birthday last week and this is the card and coordinating gift bag that I made. The base of the card is Rich Razzleberry Card Stock. For the background I embossed a piece of Smoky Slate with the Perfect Polkadots Textured Impressions Embossing Folder and backed it with a piece of Bermuda Bay. All of the stamped elements are from the Cycle Celebration Stamp Set. I stamped the candles in Versa-Mark and heat embossed them with Smoky Slate Stampin’ Emboss Powder and some Crystal Effects are added to the flame for a little shine. The greeting is stamped in Bermuda Bay and again in Rich Razzleberry. The Bermuda Bay one is punched out with the Decorative Label Punch and the Rich Razzleberry one with the Large Oval Punch. Some Stampin’ Dimensionals adhere all of the elements to the card. The gift bag is just a white one that I picked up from the craft store. I used some Smoky Slate Textured Card Stock and cut it out with the Gift Bow Bigz L Die. The sentiment is stamped in Bermuda Bay on Very Vanilla and is backed with a piece of Rich Razzleberry. I flagged the ends of both pieces and adhered it all to the bag with some Sticky Strip. I love the color combination and the Smoky Slate Embossing Powder gives the candles a waxy look! My boss loved the card and and bag and I hope you do too. Thank you very much for stopping by to take a look at my SUO Challenges  card for the birthday’s challenge. Stop by the blog and see what the my teammates have come up with and enter a project of yours in the gallery! I hope that you have a super day! 🙂

  • Paper Players 158

Yet again that weekend just flew by! Good morning, how are you all doing on this Monday? I had a very nice weekend that was the perfect blend of friends, fun and projects! It always goes too fast doesn’t it? There is always just a little more that I want to get to and before you know it it’s Sunday night at 12:00! I keep telling myself that I’m going to get to bed early, I really should just give up! LOL! It’s never gonna happen! I did go to my friends house yesterday and went in the pool, it’s saltwater which I find much nicer than chlorine. Your skin is nice and soft and you don’t smell all chemical like when you get out! Here is a little picture of the waterfall…

    Spa Carol

It’s very pretty isn’t it and very relaxing too! Moving right along to today’s post which is for this week’s Paper Players. This week we have a color challenge from the superb Sandy. It’s her debut on the design team and I think she did a nice job with these…

    Paper Players #158

Apparently I am determined to show you that you can make a holiday card out of almost any colors! And we know I love a collage card! The base of today’s card is Whisper White Card Stock and I used a piece of Subtles Designer Series Paper for the background. I rounded the bottom corners on both with the 1″ Circle Punch. The stamps are from quite a few different sets, we have A Banner Christmas, Tape It, Six Sided Sampler and Christmas Collectibles. They are stamped in Strawberry Slush, Crisp Cantaloupe and Pear Pizzaz. The ornament is punched out with the Christmas Ornament Punch, the HO3 (which I think is great!) is punched out with the 1 1/4″ Circle Punch and the hexagons are punched out with, what else, the Hexagon punch. I had some leftover chevrons from my card the other day that I cut out with the Circle Thinlits Dies so they found a little home in the lower left corner. I also thought a hook on the ornament would be neat so I fashioned one out of a paperclip! A fun and definitely different Christmas card! I thank you very much for coming by to see my Paper Players card for this week’s color challenge from Sandy. Show Sandy some love and enter your card in the gallery! I hope that you have an excellent day! 🙂

  • Pals Paper Arts 167

I wish it were Sunday, that’s my funday, I don’t have to runday. Oh, hello! Do you know what the name of that song is? LOL! Just trying to mix it up! Did you have a nice Saturday? I did! I had some lunch with Heather, spoke with my buddy Brian and then some dinner with Maureen and Taylor. We went to IHOP, I haven’t been there in ages and I do love some breakfast for dinner. Today I’m going to my friend Carol’s house to see some peeps and go in the pool. I hope you have some fun planned for your Sunday!

Today I have my card for this week’s Pals Paper Arts. I also want to thank Cindy for choosing my card as her pick for last week’s color challenge! This week we have another color challenge…

    PPA 167

Now, I know that the last thing you think of when you see these colors is a holiday card, but you don’t have my odd little brain now do you?! The base for my card is Pistachio Pudding Card Stock that I cut out with the Label Card Thinlits Die (have you noticed that I really love these?!). I stamped the World Map Background Stamp in Costal Cabana and used the Labels Collection Framelits to “notch” out the left side so it would fit when I adhered it to the right panel. The left side has two thin strips of Silver Glimmer Paper. I stamped the snowflake from the Festive Flurry Stamp Set in Costal Cabana and cut it out with the coordinating Festive Flurry Framelits Dies. A sprinkling of Basic Jewels Rhinestones and one in the center of the snowflake take care of that side. The greeting is from the Christmas Messages Stamp Set and is stamped in Crisp Cantaloupe, the outside is cut out with the label from the Label Card Thinlits and the inside with the same from Crisp Cantaloupe. The inside greeting is punched out with the Scallop Oval Punch. A very non-traditional holiday card but one that work well for someone that is far from home. We all know how I like a non-traditional holiday card! Thank you very much for stopping by to see my Pals Paper Arts card for this week’s color challenge. Oh, for fun leave me a comment with the name of the song! LOL! Have a great day! 🙂
