Fab Friday 40 & Bonus!

Sometimes a word that begins with F can be bad, but sometimes it can be good… really good, as in FRIDAY!!!! Oh how I have been looking froward to this F word all week! LOL! Work was pretty quiet yesterday, a nice change from most days, and greatly appreciated! After work I came home and worked on a few projects and watched a little TV. I have decided that giving up TV all together was a bad idea. My brain needs to rest and that seems to be the only time it does, when I sit in front of the TV. It was really windy here yesterday again. When the wind did stop for a second or two it was actually quite nice. Let’s hope that it’s done for now! I also discovered that Stampin’ Up! has Pinned my card to their April Paper Pumpkin Board! How cool is that?!?! You can see it HERE! Oh, I have a little extra project for you today too! It will be at the very end after all of the other stuff so make you scroll down to see it!

Don’t forget that today is also the last day for FREE Shipping! 🙂

Today I’m over on the Fab Friday blog for our color challenge. We have a very different color combo for you…

Fab Fri 40 Sketch 4-25-2014

I did a few different things before I finally came up with my card. Sometimes that’s just how it goes right?! My card base is actually Crumb Cake Card Stock. My background covers the entire front of the card so you can’t really see it. Speaking of the background, it’s a piece of Early Espresso Core’dinations. Again, I just love the texture on the card stock! Next up is a piece of Summer Starfruit that I rounded the corners on and then embossed it with the Honeycomb Textured Impressions Embossing Folder. The large circle is a piece of Smoky Slate that I punched out with the 2 1/2″ Circle Punch. The script on it and the greeting are form the Notable Notions Stamp Set. The script is stamped in Smoky Slate and the greeting in Early Espresso on a piece of Crisp Cantaloupe that I punched out with the 1 1/4″ Circle Punch. The cute little bee is from the soon to be “Vintage” Stamp Set Backyard Basics. He is stamped in Early Espresso on Summer Starfruit and cut out with the matching Backyard Basics Framelits. Stampin’ Dimensionals adhere all of the pieces to the card and one another. Finally I scattered some iridescent gray sequins around to finish the card. It’s definitely not a color combo that I would have thought to put together but it’s sort of fun don’t you think?! I hope that you enjoyed my Design Team card for the Fab Friday color challenge. Take a minute to go over to the blog and see the projects that my fellow Design Team members have for you and enter your card in the gallery for us to see your interpretation. I wish you all very good Friday and thank you for stopping by! 🙂

Paper Craft Crew 90

How are you all doing today? Midweek is always a good thing and I’m always much better by this point. Work, busy as always. I did have a nice evening. A little computer reformatting, some Friday’s with Andrew, not bad for a Tuesday. Tomorrow promises to be a long day. At some point during the day, I have to run out to MacArthur Airport and set up a television because we’re having an art exhibit there. And then tomorrow tonight is the dinner dance. 8 AM to around 10 PM, F-U-N! My boss Nancy knows of my crafty ways and shared a picture of the Easter table that her and her husband created for their niece and nephew for Easter. Nancy is a very nice person, and I’m not just saying that because she’s my boss, she really is a nice person. She loves those two little kids so much and I think by looking at the picture, you can see just how much she loves them by how much effort her and her husband put in to this project. Have a look for yourself…

photo

Those kids are going to have quite the sugar rush, huh?! LOL! That is A LOT of Peeps! Pretty impressive display though, don’t you think? I thought you would all enjoy that. And Nancy was quite proud of it, as she should be!

Today I’m over on the Paper Craft Crew blog for this week’s sketch challenge…

PCCCS090 Sketch 4-23-2014

My card starts off with a base of Coastal Cabana Card Stock. For my background I used a piece of Soft Suede that I punched on the left side with the Chevron Border Punch and I slipped some Afternoon Picnic Designer Series Paper behind it before I adhered it to the card. My oval, greeting and flower with the stem all come from the Oh, Hello Stamp Set. The oval is stamped in Coastal Cabana and is cut out with the Ovals Collections Framelits (a little piece is hacked off the left side). I stamped the “Oh, Hello” on the oval in Soft Suede and mounted it to the card with Stampin’ Dimensionals. For the flower, I used Wisteria Wonder and Pear Pizzazz Stampin’ Write Markers to ink the stamp and cut it out with my Paper Snips. The flagged piece of Pear Pizzazz is stamped with a greeting from the Hip Notes Stamp Set in Soft Suede. The flower on the left is from the Petite Petals Stamp Set, stamped in Wisteria Wonder and punched out with the Petite Petals Punch. Finally, my arrow is from the Label Card Thinlits Dies and is cut out from a piece of Pear Pizzazz. I’m loving the funky mix of colors and I like the way that the Afternoon Picnic DSP peeks through the punched chevrons. There you have it, my card for this week’s Paper Craft Crew sketch challenge! I hope you enjoyed it. Now take a minute to stop by the blog and see what the rest of the Design Team has done with the sketch. Don’t forget to participate so we can see what you do, too! Thanks, as always, for stopping by and I hope you have a happy Hump Day! 🙂

Paper Players 192

I had a very relaxing Easter and hope that you had a nice one too! I spent the morning making some cards, did laundry and watched some movies. I got to FaceTime with my cousin Tracey in England and then spoke to my parents who are over there too. Boy do I wish I was over there! The last time I went was 2007, it has been far too long. I had a bad dinner last night, popcorn and jellybeans, it went with the movie! LOL! Saturday night I went to dinner with a group of friends and we had a great time. We haven’t all gotten together in a while so we had a lot to catch up on. All in all a very good weekend!

Today is Monday, back to work, but it’s also time for this week’s Paper Players challenge. This week we have a CAS Washi themed challenge for the lovely Nance…

Paper Players #192

I love the Washi tape that we have but I definitely don’t use it enough so I was happy to see this challenge. My card base is a simple piece of Very Vanilla Card Stock and I stamped the greeting from the A Dozen Thoughts right on the base in Baked Brown Sugar. The three pieces of Washi tape are from the Retro Fresh This & That Designer Washi Tape Collection. I used the Little Leaves Sizzlit to cut out some Coastal Cabana for my leaves and the flowers are form the Petite Petals Stamp Set. They are stamped in So Saffron and Tangerine Tango and punched out with the Petite Petals Punch. I used Stampin’ Dimensionals to adhere them to the card and some Subtles and Brights Collection Candy Dots are in the middles. I love the colors in the Retro Fresh Collection and the Washi tape really does help to make a nice CAS card. Thank you for coming by to see my Paper Players CAS Washi challenge card for this week. Don’t forget about the Retired List and FREE Shipping Promotions! Have a great Monday! 🙂

Control Freaks April Blog Tour

freakwelcome2013

It’s that time again! Welcome to this month’s Control Freaks Blog Tour! This month our theme is Masculine/Gender Neutral. If you are following the tour you have arrived here from the talented Barb Mulikin’s blog, great projects right?! This month I have two cards and one fun project inspired by a video that I saw on YouTube for a box with a little twist!

My first card is a birthday card. For the base I used a piece of Soft Suede Card Stock. My background is a piece of Sahara Sand that I heat embossed with Gold Stampin’ Emboss Powder using the World Map Background Stamp. To color in the land and sea I used my Sponge Daubers and Island Indigo and Gumball Green Ink. Before adhering it to the card I backed it with a piece of Brushed Gold Card Stock. All of the stamped images are from the Postage Collection Host(ess) Stamp Set and are stamped in Island Indigo, Gumball Green and Soft Suede. They are punched out with the Postage Stamp Punch and adhered to the card with Stampin’ Dimensionals. I love the way the background came out with the gold heat embossing and the sponged ink. I will definitely be doing that again!

CF April Blog Tour Global B'day-WM

CF April Blog Tour Global B'day Close-WM

For my second card I did a simple nautical themed one. The base is Crumb Cake Card Stock. I stamped the World Map Background Stamp in Basic Black on a piece of white cotton fabric and then cut it out with the Banners Framelits Dies. It’s adhered to the card with Sticky Strip. My ship is from The Open Sea Stamp Set and is also stamped in Basic Black on Soft Sky and cut out with the Deco Labels Collection Framelits. I slipped a piece of So Saffron behind it that I flagged on both ends before adhering it to the card with Stampin’ Dimensionals. The greeting is from the Loving Thoughts Stamp Set. I really do enjoy using different things like fabric on a card, it adds so much with not much effort at all.

CF April Blog Tour Nautical B'day-WM

My final project is a fun box that has a little surprise inside. The box itself is created with a piece of Crumb Cake Card Stock and my Envelope Punch Board. Like I said I watched a video on YouTube to get the dimensions. There is a piece of Natural 5/8″ Chevron Ribbon that acts as a pull for the box. The sleeve is made from a piece of Early Espresso Core’dinations with a piece of Soho Subway Designer Series Paper on top. The greeting is from the Label Love Stamp Set and is stamped in Island Indigo and punched out with the Artisan Label Punch. I cut out a piece of Summer Starfruit with the Deco Labels Collection Framelits and embossed it with the Alphabet Press Textured Impressions Embossing Folder. Behind it is a piece of 1 1/4″ Burlap Ribbon that is flagged on the bottom. Sticky Strip and Stampin’ Dimensionals hold all of the pieces in place. Inside the box, with one on the front, are tickets from the You’re Amazing Stamp Set that are stamped in Island Indigo, Summer Starfruit and Crisp Cantaloupe. I used the Ticket Duo Builder Punch to punch them out and they are randomly adhered to each other and to the props with SNAIL. Sort of a neat box isn’t it with plenty of room for a gift card or a little special present.

Pals Paper Arts 200

I know I say it every week, but boy am I happy that it’s Friday! There are rumors that we may get out of work early today. Let’s hope that holds true! It was cold and windy here again yesterday, I’d like to know where spring has gone. Tonight I’m supposed to go out to dinner with Anthony and Bill, we’ll probably do Friday’s because I have about 386 points on my Stripes card, which I think equates to all of us eating for free. LOL! I hope you enjoyed yesterday’s snippet of Satellite Lane. As soon as they get the edited video back from the videographer, I will post the link to that. What kind of plans do you all have to get your weekend started? Today’s post is a special one. It is the 200th Pals Paper Arts challenge! Woo-hoo! This week, the Pals have given us a sketch with a twist…

I got my April Paper Pumpkin Kit in the mail yesterday which I’m sure you have all seen since Stampin’ Up! posted the early video of it. That’s what I used for my greeting on today’s card. The base of the card is Real Red Card Stock and my two panels are both pieces of paper from the Fresh Prints Designer Series Paper Stack and both of them are backed with Whisper White. The top panel is adhered with Stampin’ Dimensionals and the bottom panel is adhered with SNAIL. Like I said, my greeting comes from this month’s Paper Pumpkin and is heat embossed in White Stampin’ Emboss Powder. I cut it out with the Circles Collection Framelits and that too is adhered to the panel with Stampin’ Dimensionals. It needed a little something more, so I used the Itty Bitty Shapes Punch Pack and some Whisper White to punch out some flowers and gave them a little extra pop by sticking a rhinestone in the center of each one. I used the Stampin’ Pierce Mat and the Paper-Piercing Tool to shape the flowers and give them a nice three-dimensional look. As you can see, I’ve accepted both the sketch and the monochromatic challenge, which by the way, was the twist! I’ve been on a bit of a heat embossing kick lately, I’m just really liking the way it looks. The Photopolymer Stamps make a nice, crisp image, too. I hope you enjoyed my card for this week’s special 200th Pals Paper Arts challenge. Your visit, as always, is much appreciated! I hope your weekend gets off to a fantastic start to your weekend! 🙂

Freshly Made Sketches 132

Happy Thursday to you! Only one day away from my favorite day of the week! Today was a busy day at work, but a good one, I actually got some things accomplished which is always good. I left work a little early today and met Andrew to take the train into Manhattan. On our walk up I passed the Giant Needle and Button in the Garment District and it reminded me of my friend LeAnne so I took a picture of it.

Giant Needle and Button

We met up with my friend Kim for some dinner, we went to Zuni. The burgers were pretty good, however, I would stay away from the garlic mashed potatoes. LOL! Afterwards we headed over to Times Square and Andrew and Satellite Lane performed some songs in front of Military Island. The reason they were in the city was to sing for a wedding proposal. After some impromptu singing, the couple showed up and at 8:45 a picture came on the SONY Jumbo-Tron in Times Square where the man asked for his girlfriend’s hand in marriage. Satellite Lane gathered around and performed “A Thousand Years” by Christina Perri. A large crowd gathered and all cheered for the happy, newly engaged couple! I have to say, it was quite an experience to watch it happen in person. Below you can see a clip of them performing one of the songs they did before the proposal, Andy Grammer’s “Keep Your Head Up”.

Satellite Lane Times Square 4-2014

Yes, it was a little chilly last night but it pretty cool, huh?! If you’d like to keep up with all of Satellite Lane’s happenings, you can visit their website HERE.

I got home a little late last night as you can imagine, but decided to do my card for this week’s Freshly Made Sketches challenge…

Freshly Made Sketches #132

It was a great sketch because it was perfect for a quick card. The card base is Pool Party Card Stock and the background is a piece of Kaleidoscope Designer Series Paper. I rounded the corners on the top of the background and card with the 1″ Circle Punch. My image and greeting are both from the Peachy Keen Stamp Set. The heart is stamped in Pool Party and cut out with my Paper Snips. For the greeting I heat embossed the “Hello Friend” on a piece of Pool Party in Black Stampin’ Emboss Powder. Both elements are adhered to the card with Stampin’ Dimensionals. Like I said, a nice simple card! Since Pool Party is a light color, the card almost has a monochromatic look to it, but because of the stripes, the heart and sentiment really jump off the face of the card. Let me know what you think of my card for this week’s Freshly Made Sketches challenge. Thanks very much for stopping by today. I hope you enjoyed the video as well and that you have a very good Thursday! 🙂

Paper Players 191

Another beautiful day here in New York! I started the day off by driving into Manhattan and much to my surprise, I made it into the city in 28 minutes. Don’t tell anyone! LOL! Had some breakfast with Kim, went to see a friend in Midtown, managed to stop on the way back up and take some pictures that you will see below. I went back to Kim’s and she decided she’d take the ride back out to Long Island with me. We went for a walk on the Bethpage bike trail, took my parents to the airport and had some dinner at Friday’s. I dropped Kim off at the train station and Andrew came by to pick up two cards that I made for his mom which I will post later this week. Now on to the pictures…

This is the Roosevelt Island Tram. It runs parallel to the 59th Street Bridge to the midway point where it drops down to Roosevelt Island. At one time, this was the only way to get to Roosevelt Island via public transportation. They have since added a subway stop on the F-line. I still think this is a pretty neat way to get to the island, and one day I will take it there!

Now on to today’s card which is for this week’s Paper Players challenge and Ann has given us this interesting color challenge…

Paper Players #191

My card base is a piece of Coastal Cabana Card Stock and as a background, I used the Hexagon Hive Thinlit Die which I cut out of a piece of Calypso Coral. On top of that is my tag which is cut from Crumb Cake using the Angled Tag Topper Punch. My greeting is stamped on the tag in Always Artichoke. The stamp comes from the Simply Sketched Host(ess) Stamp Set. On the left of the tag I stamped the leaves from the Secret Garden Stamp Set in Always Artichoke and cut them out with the Secret Garden Framelits. On top of that are two flowers which I stamped in Calypso Coral from the Flower Shop Stamp Set. They are punched out with the Pansy Punch. I like the look of the card but I felt it was too empty so I added another flower and leaf at the bottom to fill it out some more. As an added embellishment, I tied some Linen Thread through the tag to give it the finishing touch. I know I’ve used the flowers a lot lately and I promise I will move on to something else! LOL! I hope you like what I did with the bold color combination from the Paper Players this week. Thanks for taking some time out of your Monday to see what I was up to yesterday. Here’s to a good Monday for all of us!

Pals Paper Arts 199

Well that was a very nice Saturday! The weather was absolutely beautiful. Nice and sunny and it was in the upper 60’s. I went for a haircut in the morning and the top was down in the car all day. After my haircut I went over to Kim’s and Heather, the munchkins and I went to the mall. We got some lunch and then wandered around for a bit. Heather was looking for a dress and found one in Express. We went back to Kim’s and then Heather and I ran to Bed, Bath & Beyond and the liquor store. We got back to the house and just relaxed and played with the kiddies. What a lovely way to spend a Saturday, with my peeps! I hope that you had good weather and an enjoyable day where you are! I’m off to Manhattan for a bit this morning and then taking my parents to the airport. My friend Kim from the city is going to come back with me and come with me to take my parents to the airport. Looks to be a fun day!

Today’s card is for this week’s Pals Paper Arts and we have a color challenge this week…

PPA 199

I got home around 10:00 last night and I had a few cards to make. I needed a nice quick card so I CASE’d this one from the Annual Catalog. The base of the card is So Saffron Card Stock. I used some Sticky Strip to Adhere a piece of Calypso Coral 3/4″Chevron Ribbon down the right side. I flagged the ends with my Paper Snips before I Adhered it. A piece of Crumb Cake is embossed with the Scallops Textured Impressions Embossing Folder and I rounded the corners with the 3/16″ Corner Rounder before I adhered it to the card with Stampin’ Dimensionals. My greeting is from the Simply Celebrate Stamp Set and is stamped in Pear Pizzaz and punched out with the 2 1/2″ Circle Punch. I cut out some Pear Pizzaz with the Little Leaves Sizzlit and stamped one of the images from the Flower Shop Stamp Set in Calypso Coral on Calypso Coral and punched it out with the Pansy Punch. In the middle is a piece of So Saffron that I punched out with the Itty Bitty Shapes Punch Pack. I used a Mini Glue Dot to adhere it to the flower and there is a Basic Jewel Pearl in the middle. Sometimes you just need a little inspiration to speed you along! I hope that you enjoyed my card for this week’s Pals Paper Arts color challenge. I always enjoy having you stop by and see what I’ve been up to and love to hear about what you have been doing too! I hope you all have an amazing Sunday! 🙂

Mojo 340

It was another very nice day here again yesterday. The temperature got up into the low 60’s and the sun was out all day. After that Winter I’m really appreciating the nice weather! Work was busy but I did get to take a field trip to one of my favorite places, the Apple Store. I had to pick up an iMac for the COO. After work I went to my parents for dinner and my brother, his wife and little Daniel were there. He really is just the cutest, happiest little guy. He has a great smile and laughs all the time. Taylor was there too and she got a tattoo for her birthday of Zero from the Nightmare Before Christmas, her favorite movie. After, I came home and crafted for a bit and attempted to get my stuff together for my taxes, it just dawned on me that I only have 5 days left! LOL!

My post for today is for this week’s Mojo Monday sketch from Julee Tilman…

I decided that I wanted to make a card that only used Photopolymer Stamps. The new ones in the last two Paper Pumpkin kits are Photopolymer so I included them too! I also wanted to use some different colors. My card starts off with a base of Daffodil Delight Card Stock and the background is a piece of Chocolate Chip. My tilted panel is Very Vanilla and the chevron stamp is from last month’s Paper Pumpkin kit. I stamped it in Rich Razzleberry, Melon Mambo and Tangerine Tango on opposite sides of the top and bottom. A piece of Daffodil Delight 1/4″ Stitched Grosgrain Ribbon is adhered around the back and then I adhered the panel to the card base with SNAIL. The three circles are from the February Paper Pumpkin kit and are also stamped in Rich Razzleberry, Melon Mambo and Tangerine Tango. I cut the large circle out with the Circles Collection Framelits, I originally used the 1 3/4″ Circle Punch but there was a white border around the circle that just didn’t fit with the look of the card. The other two circles are punched out with the 1 3/8″ and 1″ Circle Punches. The greeting is from the Show and Tell 2 Photopolymer Stamp Set and is stamped in Chocolate Chip on a piece of Daffodil Delight which I flagged the right side of before adhering it and the circles to the card with Stampin’ Dimensionals. A Brights Collection Designer Button adhered to the ribbon with a Mini Glue Dot finishes off the card. I really like the retro feel of the card which I attribute to the colors. Often times I take color inspiration from a DSP, but I was proud of myself for coming up with a funky color combination! I hope you are inspired to try some different color combinations yourself and that you enjoyed my card for this week’s Mojo Monday sketch challenge. I appreciate your visit and hope that you have an amazing day!

Paper Craft Crew 88

Monday seems just a distant memory now that we are at Wednesday! LOL! We finished moving at work today. That was definitely more fun than any one person should ever have in one day! NOT! Did I mention that my new office has a glass wall? I feel like Im’ in a fish tank! I’m going to see if I can find some fish window clings to put on the glass! Enough whining about work, it was rainy this morning but the sun cam out in the afternoon and it went up into the 60’s! I got to go outside without a jacket! Pure bliss I tell you! Andrew stopped by after work and we did some more business cards. They will be in Boston this weekend for the BOSS event. They were even asked to perform! Wish them luck!

Today I’m over on the Paper Craft Crew blog for this week’s sketch challenge. This week’s sketch has a tag, we know how I love those…

PCCCS088 4-09-2014

I strayed from the sketch ever so slightly, just with the sentiment. The base of the my card is Pool Party Card Stock and the background is a piece of Crumb Cake that I stamped with the Dictionary Background Stamp in Crumb Cake Ink. My two strips of Designer Series Paper and the butterfly are from the Epic Day This and That Designer Series Paper Pack. For my tag I used a piece of Calypso Coral that I stamped with the Positively Chevron Background Stamp in Calypso Coral and punched it out with the Angled Tag Topper Punch. The greeting is from the Chalk Talk stamp set and is stamped in Gumball Green and cut out with the Chalk Talk Framelits. Some Stampin’ Dimensionals adhere it at an angle on to the tag. The flower is from the Petite Petals Stamp Set and is stamped in Daffodil Delight and punched out with the Petite Petals Punch and adhered to the card with a Mini Glue Dot. The butterfly is punched out with the Bitty Butterfly Punch and adhered to the card with a Mini Glue Dot as well. Some Basic Jewels Pearls in the middle of the flower and the butterfly along with a piece Linen Thread through the top of the tag complete the card. It’s been a while since I used the Epic Day This and That DSP. I forgot how much I like the colors and the distressed look of the paper. Take a minute to pop on over to the Paper Craft Crew blog to see what the rest of the Design Team has come up with and enter your card in the gallery too so we can see how you interpreted the sketch! Thanks so much for stopping by for my mid-week post! I hope you have a very happy Hump Day! 🙂
