Just Add Ink 192

Before I even get started with today’s post, I wanted to sincerely say thank you to all of my blog readers who reached out and invited me over for Thanksgiving. It looks like instead of having a movie day, I might be traveling across the country all in a day this year! It really brightened up my day and I definitely have all of you to be thankful for this year!

As far as Fridays go, yesterday was a really good one. I escaped from work at 1 o’clock, came home, had lunch and made a card. Andrew came by, we went out for a really great sushi dinner and then went to Sandy’s and made some framed art for Christmas. Not an easy project by any stretch of the imagination and I have to tell you, I was more than impressed with Andrew’s project. In fact, I have posted both of our projects below. Can you tell which one is mine and which one is Andrew’s? Let me know in the comments. Also remember, he’s only made one card before this!

Today I have my card for the lovely ladies over at Just Add Ink. This week they have given us a color challenge…

JAI Colors 192

I have to admit that when I first saw the colors, I immediately thought of the New York Mets. So to clear that thought of my head, I decided to go with flowers and butterflies. I used Tangerine Tango Card Stock for the base of my card and the background is a piece of Island Indigo that is embossed with the Perfect Polka Dots Textured Impressions Embossing Folder. All of the stamped images are from the Polka-Dot Pieces Stamp Set and are stamped in Tangerine Tango. The flowers are punched out with the 1 3/4″ and 1 1/4″ Scallop Circle Punches, the butterflies are punched out with the Elegant Butterfly Punch and all of the images are adhered to the card with Stampin’ Dimensionals. The greeting comes from the Lots of Thanks Stamp Set and is stamped in Tangerine Tango and it is cut out with one of the elements from the Circle Card Thinlits Die. Not an overly complicated card, but it’s kind of neat what you can do with just one stamp set and a simple greeting. I got past the Mets colors and really enjoyed the way the card came out. Thanks a lot for stopping by to see my card for this week’s Just Add Ink color challenge! I’m off to Manhattan now and if the weather holds up I will have some fun pictures for you tomorrow! I hope you have a superb Saturday!

Control Freaks November Blog Tour

freakwelcome2013

Hello everyone and welcome to the November Control Freaks Blog Tour! Our theme for this month’s tour is Christmas! If you are following the tour then you have arrived here from Cindy Elam’s blog. She had some great stuff, didn’t she?! I have two home decor projects for you. Who couldn’t use a little inspiration to help with the decorating around your house this time of year?

The first of the two projects I have for you today is a banner. I’m a big fan of nontraditional holiday colors and this banner is no exception. The bases for the banner are Cherry Cobbler Card Stock that I stamped in Cherry Cobbler with the Dictionary Background Stamp. I flagged the bottoms and used the 1″ Circle Punch to create the ticket corners on the top. The rosettes are made from Winter Frost Specialty Designer Series Paper using my Simply Scored Scoring Tool. My next layer is a piece of Blushing Bride that I cut out with the Chalk Talk Framelits Dies and embossed with the Alphabet Press Textured Impressions Embossing Folder. The letters that spell out JOY are cut out using the Typeset Alphabet Bigz Dies from Cherry Cobbler. To add a little interest I stamped some snowflakes from the Festive Flurry Stamp Set in Pool Party and cut them out with the Festive Flurry Framelits Dies. The flags are held on to the jute twine with some Pool Party that is punched out with the “Vintage” Tab Punch. The snowflakes are held on with Card Stock that is punched out with the Word Window Punch. It’s a fun and relatively simple banner to make, but it’s sure to dress up any home for the holidays!

My second project for today I’m going to use as a tree topper, but you could also use it as an ornament on a bigger tree or it could be hung on a door. The base for my project is a piece of Soft Sky Card Stock that I cut out with the Circles Collections Framelits Dies. The background is a piece of Very Vanilla that I stamped with the World Map Background Stamp in Old Olive and that is also cut out with the Circles Framelits. I used the Christmas Star Single Stamp heat embossed with Gold Stampin’ Emboss Powder, cut out with my Paper Snips and scored with my Simply Scored Scoring Tool. Some stacked Stampin’ Dimensionals adhere it to the background. The greeting is from the Greetings of the Season Stamp Set, stamped in Cherry Cobbler and punched out with the 1 3/4″ Scallop Circle Punch. It is backed with a piece of Cherry Cobbler that I cut out with the Deco Labels Collection Framelits Dies. Two flagged pieces of Brushed Gold Card Stock are adhered behind it. On the back of it is a tube of Soft Sky that I will use to place it on top of my tree.

Paper Players 172

I know that I say it every Monday but the weekend goes way too fast. It was gloomy here all day and I felt a little gloomy myself, I made the mistake of listening to too much sad music I guess. I did manage to get a lot of my projects done yesterday so that was a good thing. I even got to stop by and see my friends Kim and Brian and little Izzy and Savannah and let’s not forget Kevin! It’s the start of a new week and as always I’m just waiting for Friday! LOL!

The only good thing about Monday is that it’s time to for the Paper Players. I wanted to thank Ann for choosing my card as her Headliner for last and her lovely write up. You can see my original post here and the Paper Players post here. Now for this week, we have a CAS project with leaves from Nance…

Paper Players #172

I debated for a while what I was going to use and then the card materialized in my little brain! The base of the card is Very Vanilla Card Stock. I wrapped some Linen Thread around the card and tied it in a bow. My leaf is cut out with the Autumn Accents Bigz Die from Gold Foil Sheet and I tucked it under the Linen Thread. I used some Gold Stampin’ Emboss Powder to heat emboss the greeting from the Harvest of Thanks Stamp Set and cut it out with my Bitty Banners Framelits Dies. Some Stampin’ Dimensionals adhere it to the base. A very CAS card indeed but I love the rich slightly rustic look. Thanks for stopping by to see my card for this week’s Paper Players CAS with Leaves challenge from Nance. I hope that you enjoyed the card! Now go and enjoy your day! 🙂

Just Add Ink 191

Well, yesterday turned out to be a nice day after all. It was warm enough to skip the jacket for a while. I did some clean up in the craft area in the morning. In the afternoon I went to the gym with my buddy Andrew and then we went for a walk just because it was so nice out. There was even a little fence climbing, I haven’t done that since I was a kid! LOL! All in all not a bad day. How were things by you?

My card for today is for this week’s Just Add Ink challenge. This week we have a sketch as our inspiration…

JAI Sketch 191

I like trying out different color combos to mix things up, I also went with a collage style card, one of my favorites. The base of my card is Whisper White Card Stock. I embossed a piece of Pool Party with the Alphabet Press Textured Impressions Embossing Folder and adhered a piece of Gumball Green 3/8″ Stitched Satin Ribbon around the back and then adhered it to the card front covering the whole thing. I liked the way my card looked yesterday with it so I will be doing more often! The partial circle is a piece of Gumball Green that I cut out with the Circles Collection Framelits Dies. The stamp is from the Notable Notions Stamp Set and is stamped in Gumball Green, I also used it for the buttons which are stamped in Gumball Green, Cherry Cobbler and Pool Party and punched out with the 1/2″ Circle Punch. My doily is Bushing Bride and I used the Delicate Doilies Large Sizzlit to cut it out. The ornament is from the Best of Christmas Stamp Set and is stamped in Cherry Cobbler. For the small ornament I used the Very Merry Tags Stamp Set and stamped it in Pool Party and punched it out with the Mosaic Punch. The final piece to the collage are the tickets which are stamped in Pool Party and Gumball Green from the That’s the Ticket Stamp Set. To finish off the card I used a Mini Glue Dot to adhere a Subtles Collection Designer Button on the ribbon. I really am liking the colors and they aren’t ones that I would usually put together. Thanks for stopping by today to see my card for this week’s Just Add Ink sketch challenge, I hope that you enjoyed it and have a wonderful Sunday! 🙂

Pals Paper Arts 179 x 2!

Happy Saturday! Wow, am I glad that week is over! It was super busy at work but I did manage to get some stuff done today… whew! It’s supposed to rain today, tomorrow and Monday on and off but it will be warmer so I’m ok with that. I did get some fun news this week that I have been waiting to share with you but I can’t hold it in any longer! I have been asked to do a  presentation at Leadership in Houston Texas in January!! How cool is that?! I’m really excited about it and a little nervous but I’ll feel better once I get my presentation together. Hopefully I will see some of you there! 🙂

Today I have not one but two cards for this week’s Pals Paper Arts color challenge. Thanks to Cindy for choosing me for her pick last week! You can see my original post here and the Pals post here. This week they have given us these colors to work with…

PPA 179

It took me a little while to get going on what I was going to do. As I mentioned I ended up making two cards because I wasn’t thrilled with the first one. My first card used a piece of Eastern Elegance Designer Series Paper to cover the whole front of a card base of Whisper White Card Stock. The main panel is a piece of Rich Razzleberry behind a piece of Crumb Cake that I adhered a piece of Rich Razzleberry that I cut out with the Lattice Bigz Die. The butterflies are from the Beautiful Butterflies Bigz Die, one is Vellum Card Stock that I embossed with the Perfect Polkadots Textured Impressions Embossing Folder and the other is a piece of Crushed Curry that I stamped in Crushed Curry with one of the Paper Pumpkin Stamps. My greeting is from the Happy Day Stamp Set and is stamped in Rich Razzleberry, the ends are flagged and behind it is a piece of Rich Razzleberry that I also embossed with the Perfect Polkadots Textured Impressions Embossing Folder. A few Basic Jewels Pearls on the butterfly complete the card. I don’t hunk I have ever covered the whole card front with DSP before but I like it!

PPA 179 Card 1-WM

My second card starts off with a base of Crumb Cake Card Stock. I created the background by stamping the Positively Chevron Background Stamp in Crushed Curry on Crushed Curry. My flag is a piece of Rich Razzleberry that I punched out the left side with the Chevron Border Punch. Some Crumb Cake pieces also punched out with the Chevron Border Punch are adhered along the right. The Crumb Cake flag is stamped with one of the Paper Pumpkin Stamps in Crumb Cake and all of the pieces are mounted to the card with Stampin’ Dimensionals. My greeting is from the A Dozen Thoughts Stamp Set and is stamped in Rich Razzleberry right on the background. Now that is one card that’s full of chevrons!

PPA 179 Card 2-WM

I think I’m going to go with the first card for my entry. You can let me know which one you prefer by leaving me a comment, I always enjoy hearing what you think! Thanks so much for checking in with me today to see my double Pals Paper Arts cards for this week’s color challenge. Enjoy all that your Saturday has to offer! 🙂

Fab Friday 31

Hello my blog peeps! How is everything going? Work was beyond irritating today. We had a presentation at one of our other offices. I had asked if there was a projector there and I was told there was, but when I got there, no projector! The day started off badly and just spiraled out of control from there. However, the day ended with some fun news. I became an uncle for the first time!! 😀 Happy birth day to Daniel Steven! Congratulations to my brother Jason and his wife Erika!!

Daniel Steven Krieger

Kind of cute, isn’t he?!

And today, wait… today’s FRIDAY!! Woo hoo! And it’s an extra good Friday because it’s Fab Friday! This week we have a sketch with a big tag on it…

Fab Fri 31 Sketch 11-13-2013

I decided that since I bought the Typeset Alphabet Bigz Dies that I should really be using them more. My card today contains red and green for all of you traditionalists and some sequins for my friend Karen. The base of my card is Gumball Green Card Stock. My background is a piece of Crumb Cake that I embossed with the Pretty Print Textured Impressions Embossing Folder. Before I adhered it to the card I put a piece of Silver 1/8″ Ribbon around the bottom. My tag is cut from a piece of Real Red Card Stock. The JOY part of the greeting is cut out using the Typeset Alphabet Bigz Dies from Silver Glimmer Paper and the “to the world” is heat embossed with Silver Stampin’ Emboss Powder from the Joy to the World Stamp Set. Another piece of Silver Glimmer Paper goes across the bottom of the tag and 5 Silver Sequins help add to the bling! Finally, some more Silver 1/8″ Ribbon is tied through the tag. There is a little something for everyone on this card: traditional Christmas colors, some Glimmer Paper, a few sequins, a touch of heat embossing and some ribbon. Thank you very much for stopping by today to see my Design Team card for this week’s Fab Friday sketch challenge. Head on over to the blog to see what my talented Design Teammates have come up with and post your card in the gallery so you can be a Fab Fave! I hope you all enjoy your Friday as much as I know I will! 🙂

Freshly Made Sketches 112

It was another very frigid day here, lots of wind too. It’s supposed to warm up by the weekend, let’s hope they are right! Work was insanely busy and things are piling up and I don’t like that at all. Hopefully I will be able to play some catch-up on Friday. I stayed in last night where it was warm and played with my crafty stuff. Got a few projects made and have a bunch more to finish this weekend. Ahh, soon the weekend, don’t you just love it?!?!

My post for today is for this week’s Freshly Made Sketches challenge. Thank you so much to Linda for choosing me as the King of Clean for lats week’s challenge!! What an honor! You can see my original post here and the Freshly Made Sketches post here. Now for this week, the sketch is provided by Jen…

Freshly Made Sketches #112

A very simple sketch but open to some fun interpretation. The base of my card is Strawberry Slush Card Stock. My tags are from the Stamp a Tag Kit  and I threaded some Linen Thread throughout the holes for that authentic tag look! The greeting is from the Christmas Messages Stamp Set. I masked off the greeting with tape and stamped each part separately on a tag. The chevrons are also from the Stamp a Tag Kit and are stamped in Coastal Cabana along with the greeting. My stars are from the Simply Stars Stamp Set and are also stamped in Coastal Cabana and cut out with my Paper Snips. Some Stampin’ Dimensionals hold them in place and complete my simple card. I even kind of got the red and green in there too! LOL! Thanks for stopping by today to see my Freshly Made Sketches card for this week’s challenge. I always appreciate your visit and hope that you enjoy the rest of your day! 🙂

Mojo 319

Made it through another Monday. Work was a little crazy today because it was my boss’ last day for ten days, she’s off to Israel. The part that made me the most jealous was the flight, she will be first class on the second story of a 747! And I’m sad to say that I will miss her. The weather today is supposed to be rainy and snowy, hopefully less of the latter. How’s everything going in your neck of the woods?

I wanted to take a minute to wish my good friend Isabella a very Happy Birthday! I hope you have a great day! 🙂

Just in time for the Holidays Stampin’ Up! announces the Festive Flurry Ornament Kit. The kit is available starting today and only while supplies last. Here are the specifics:

The kit includes everything you need (minus adhesive) to create 10 snowflakes, including

  • 10 feet of Soft Sky Ribbon
  • Printed cardstock – die cut and scored, ready to be assembled (Soft Sky, Crumb Cake, Whisper White Cardstock and Silver Glimmer Paper)
  • Large Rhinestone Basic Jewells (40)

Festive Flurry Ornament Kit  135813  $14.95

Snowflake Ornament Demo Nov13 NA

All need is a hot glue gun for assembly! You can see a video of how to put the ornament together here.

My inspiration for today’s card comes from this week’s Mojo Monday sketch provided by Julee Tilman…

I have been wanting to use the Santa image from the Best of Christmas Stamp Set for a while. If you remember, I had a little bit of an obsession last year with an image from the Jolly Old St. Nick Stamp Set. The base of my card is Crumb Cake Card Stock. For the background I used a piece of paper from the Season of Style Designer Series Paper Stack backed with a piece of Old Olive. In the middle is a piece of Baked Brown Sugar that I embossed with the Perfect Polkadots Textured Impressions Embossing Folder. My large circle is a piece of Old Olive that I cut out with the Circles Collection Framelits Dies and another piece of paper from Season of Style DSP Stack that I cut out with the very “Vintage” Circle Scissor. Next up are two flags, one Baked Brown Sugar and one Whisper White that I stamped the greeting on from the Endless Wishes Photopolymer Stamp Set. Finally, we have the image of St. Nick from the Best of Christmas Stamp Set. I stamped him in Jet Black Staz-On Ink and used my Cherry Cobbler, Old Olive, Blushing Bride and Blush Blossom Stampin’ Write Markers. He is punched out with the 1 3/4″ Circle Punch and backed with another circle cut out from Cherry Cobbler with the Circles Collection Framelits. It really is a great Santa image and I’m still loving the Endless Wishes Photo Polymer Set. As always, I appreciate you stopping by to see my Mojo Monday card for this week’s sketch challenge. Here’s to a terrific Tuesday for all of you!

Paper Players 171

Yesterday was extremely windy here and it rained a little too. I did have a nice relaxing day. I puttered around the house in the morning and then met Heather and we did some shopping and had lunch. When I came back home I sat down and completed a few projects and listened to some music. All in all a very nice day. I hope that you enjoyed the pictures of Manhattan yesterday, I’m going to make an effort to included some people, possibly me, in some of the future pictures!

Since it’s Monday that means that it’s time to play along with the Paper Players again! This week we have a fall color challenge from clever Ann…

Paper Players #171

I was going to go along with the obvious and make a fall card but we all know how I like to go and do something unexpected! The base of my card is Tangerine Tango Card Stock and there is a layer of Crushed Curry on top of that. My background is created using the Filmstrip Stamp and some Crushed Curry, Tangerine Tango and Chocolate Chip ink. With the help of my Stamp-a-ma-jig lining them up was nice and easy. To cut down a little on the boldness of the background I created a frame with the Squares Collection Framelits from some Whisper White and used a piece of Vellum Card Stock as a background for my images. The frame is adhered to the card with Stampin’ Dimensionals. The flowers and bird are from the Morning Medley Host(ess) Stamp Set and are stamped in Crushed Curry and Tangerine Tango for the flowers and the bird in Chocolate Chip. The flowers are punched out with the Pansy Punch and the bird is cut out with my Paper Snips. My greeting is from the Banner Greetings Host(ess) Stamp Set and is stamped in Chocolate Chip and also cut out with my Paper Snips. I stamped the Wish Big on the frame from the A Dozen Thought Stamp Set and a few sequins complete my card. I love the bold background but appreciate the way the vellum softens it so as not to take away from the images. Thank you so much for stopping by to se my Paper Players card for this week’s color challenge from Ann. Have as good a Monday as you can! 🙂

Pals Paper Arts 178

Dinner and a movie was a good time last night. Heather and I had some Chinese food and then we watched The Heat with Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy, it was hysterical! I’m off to Manhattan this morning, hopefully it won’t be too cold, I would like to take a little walk along the river. It’s supposed to be sunny so let’s hope the weather holds up!

Today I have my card for this week’s Pals Paper Arts challenge. This time they have given us some neat colors to work with…

PPA 178

All of the colors are in the Soho Subway DSP so I decided to do a Christmas card with a slightly vintage feel. The base of my card is Summer Starfruit Card Stock and I used the Post Card Stamp, stamped in Early Espresso and backed with a piece of the Soho Subway Designer Series Paper for the background. The greeting is heat embossed in Early Espresso on a Crisp Cantaloupe tag and is from the Christmas Messages Stamp Set. A leftover piece of Vanilla Bakers Twine from a kit make the bow and some Stampin’ Dimensionals adhere it to the card. My three ornaments are from the Christmas Collectibles Stamp Set and are stamped in Early Espresso, Crisp Cantaloupe and Summer Starfruit. I used the Christmas Ornament Punch to punch them out and they too are adhered with Stampin’ Dimensionals. You know how I love a non-traditional Holiday card and this one definitely fits the bill. Thanks so much for visiting with me today to see my Pals Paper Arts card for this week’s color challenge. I hope that you have a very nice Saturday! 🙂
