Freshly Made Sketches 146 & Danny

It’s Thursday already! That is definitely a good thing! I had a fun day at work yesterday dealing with our Lobby TV set up. We show a loop on the TV and the things that we use now don’t work so I’m testing out new solutions and think I may have found one that uses Mac minis. Hopefully it will work! I was going to post more Convention pictures today but something a little more important was brought to my attention. Yesterday morning my friend Danielle text me this news story about a 5 year old boy that lives in Foxboro, MA. He is different than many other little boys, he has an inoperable brain tumor that is also chemo therapy resistant. It’s his birthday tomorrow and all he wants for it is lots of cards. So I thought well I make cards and I’m going to send him one. He likes cards with his name on them so that just what he will get. Here is the card that I made for him…

Danny B'day Card-WM

You can read about his story HERE and if you would like to send a card, it will be late but I don’t think he will mind, you can send it to:

Danny Nickerson
PO Box 212
Foxboro, MA 02035

And yes, I’m all teary eyed as I write this because I don’t think it’s fair for a 5 year old to have anything wrong with them. If a card will make him happy then a card he will get. Sorry for the sad start to the post but I just had to share his story with you. Sometimes a card is all it takes to make someone’s day and I’m happy that I get to do that!

Now on to happier things, today I have my card for this week’s Freshly Made Sketches

Freshly Made Sketches #146

I know that you are all not feeling the Christmas cards but I have new goodies that need some love so I did another one today! The card starts off with a base of Whisper White Card Stock. The background is a simple piece of Soft Sky and I stamped my greeting from the Christmas Bliss Photopolymer Stamp Set in Garden Green right on the background. A strip of Nordic Noel Designer Series Paper* and a piece of adhesive cork sheet come across from the right. The image is from the Cheerful Christmas Stamp Set* and is heat embossed with White Stampin’ Emboss Powder. I used the Window Frames Collection Framelits to cut it out and pierced around the edge with the Festive Paper-Piercing Pack. Some Stampin’ Dimensionals hold it to the card and a few Basic Jewels Rhinestones in the lower left complete the card. I really do love blues for Christmas and Soft Sky is becoming a favorite! I also think it’s neat the way the image from the Cheerful Christmas Set fits inside the Window Frame. I hope that you enjoyed my card for this week’s Freshly Made Sketches challenge. If you have some time send a card to Danny to put a smile on his face. Thank you very much for coming by today and I hope that you all have a good Thursday! 🙂

Retro Sketches 124 & Still More Pics!

I’m not gonna lie, I was a little tired today! I guess 3 1/2 hours of sleep isn’t enough! LOL! I’m going to make it point not to do that again. I did manage to drag myself through the day, it wasn’t especially busy which was welcome I can tell you! I do miss the lack of humidity in Utah. It was in the 80’s here yesterday and felt more like 100! I have a few more Convention pictures for you. The first one is my sweet friend Anita from Canada. She is so nice, she brought me Smarties and I just love her hat!

Anita and I

This lovely lady is Amy from the home office. She is actually in the 2014-2015 Annual Catalog. They featured her wedding pictures in the Project Life by Stampin’ Up! spread!

Amy & I

I still have a few more pictures to post and will add some more tomorrow! When I got home last night I sat down and went to make my card for this week’s Paper Craft Crew challenge and I forgot that we are taking a week off! I decided that I would try something new. I have always looked at the Retro Sketches blog but I have never participated so I thought why not?! Here is this week’s sketch…

Retro Sketches 124

I love the way they show the sketch, I think it’s really neat! I also did something that rarely do and that’s use a lot of Brights! My card begins with a base of Daffodil Delight Card Stock and for the background I embossed a piece of Melon Mambo with the Arrows Textured Impressions Embossing Folder. My large flag is a piece of Sweet Taffy Designer Series Paper that I cut out with the Banners Framelits. Some Raspberry Ripple is cut out with two of the Circles Collection Framelits and adhered to the card with Stampin’ Dimensionals. In the middle is a piece of Tempting Turquoise that I punched out with the 1 3/4″ Scallop Circle Punch. My stamped image is from the Amazing Birthday Stamp Set and is stamped in Tempting Turquoise and punched out with the 1 1/4″ Circle Punch. The greeting is from the Endless Birthday Wishes Photopolymer Stamp Set and is stamped in Rich Razzleberry on Pumpkin Pie, the ends are flagged  and Stampin’ Dimensionals hod it and the cake to the card. Finally I used my Rich Razzleberry Blendabilities Marker to color a Basic Jewel Rhinestone and I popped it on with the greeting. A very bright happy card, I love the ring around the cake and the greeting is just cool! I hope that you enjoyed my card for this week’s Retro Sketches challenge and the pics of my friends from Convention! Thanks you, as always for dropping by, have a great Wednesday peeps! 🙂

Fab Friday 45 and a Word from Andrew

I have to say that today was a very good day at work for me. I ended up having to do my monthly delivery today so I was gone for 2 hours. Came back, did a little work, and then was released at 3 PM. Sounds like parole… because it is. LOL! After work, Andrew came by to help me move some stuff (yes, still!). When we reached the old apartment, it was approximately 115Âş, a definite thing that I will not be missing about living on the second floor. We got a lot more stuff moved, had some dinner and organized some more. And now Andrew would like to have a word with you…

Hey folks! I [obviously] read Justin’s blog every day and I’m flattered to be mentioned quite often. I’m even more flattered though that you all take an interest in my life and well-being. It brought a big smile to my face to see all your birthday wishes yesterday, so thank you all so much! And don’t worry, Justin will be taking me to dinner very soon! LOL! Also, when I got to his house this afternoon, he had a birthday card for me! Surprise! Here it is in all it’s glory…

Andrew's Bday Card-WM

I was quite impressed with the card as I always am with Justin’s work, but I really like the 3D look of the skyline and my Clark Kent-looking hair. LOL! The card is currently hanging in my living room with the rest of my birthday cards, but we all know which ones shines the brightest, don’t we?!

So thank you all once again, I really appreciate it. Now back to our regularly scheduled programming…

Today’s a good Friday because it’s the other Friday and I’m over on the Fab Friday blog for this week’s sketch challenge…

Fab Fri 45 7-04-2014

I just so happened to get a new box of goodies yesterday and used three of them on today’s card. My card starts off with a base of Basic Black Card Stock and my background is a piece of Flashback Designer Series Paper. I embossed a strip of Crushed Curry with the Zig Zag Textured Impressions Embossing Folder. On top of that is a piece of Real Red that I punched out using the Angled Tag Topper Punch to make the tag. I thought it needed a little something more so I used the Eclectic Paper Piercing Pack to pierce around the edge. The greeting/image is from the Well Worded Stamp Set and is stamped in Memento Tuxedo Black Ink on Very Vanilla and cut out with the Mustache Framelits Die. A simple, fun, retro card that’s great for when you don’t have a lot of time (moving/sorting… will it ever end?!). Make sure you head on over to the Fab Friday blog to see the rest of the Design Team projects for this week’s sketch. I would love to see what you do with the sketch, so upload your card to the gallery for us! A great big thank you from both Andrew and I. You always put a smile on our faces! Have a happy and safe 4th of July! 🙂

So Very Happy Owl

Hello my friends! I am very happy to report that the move went extremely well! Fred showed up at 8:00 and Andrew at 8:20, with Starbucks!! We got right to work and about 80% of my stuff is at the new place. Fred had to leave at 3:30 and Andrew was going to leave at 5:30, he had a BBQ to go to. He said that he didn’t want to leave me here to set up by myself and he stayed until 8:30. I always say how awesome he is and I love it when he proves me right! I couldn’t have done any of this without him and Fred! I’m so incredibly lucky to have the amazing friends that I have and am happy to sing their praises! Andrew will be back over later to help finish up and I’m going to see what I can get accomplished in the new craft space this morning! Speaking of the new craft space since it’s mostly set up I thought I would share a picture of it…

Craft Space Hahn

You can see that it’s a cozy space in a walk in closet of the living room. You can also see the color of the living room, and nice almost Coastal Cabana! I wanted something bright and cheery and I think I got it. Yes the shelves are filled with Stamp Sets, when I say that I have an addiction I don’t tell lies! LOL! I’m looking forward to getting in there and making something! The fireworks were going off again last night and little Winston was scared but he stayed still long enough for a little picture too…

Winston

Now on to today’s card which I actually made a while ago. It was a just for fun card because I wanted to use the Owl Builder Punch! I haven’t used it ages to make an actual owl! The card begins with a base of Real Red Card Stock and the background is a piece of Whisper White that I stamped with the Dictionary Background Stamp in Bermuda Bay. Next up is a piece of “Vintage” Kaleidoscope Designer Series Paper. The final layer is a piece of Whisper White that I drew a notebook page on with my Pool Party and Real Red Stampin’ Write Markers. All of the corners are rounded with the “Vintage” 3/16″ Corner Rounder. The owl is punched out with the Owl Builder Punch, his body is Smoky Slate, his eyes are Whisper White, Pool Party and Basic Black and his vest is another piece of Kaleidoscope DSP. The greeting is from the So Very Happy Stamp Set and is stamped in Memento Tuxedo Black Ink and cut out with the Project Life Cards & Labels Framelits. A piece of Pool Party is flagged and adhered behind it. The Owl and the greeting are mounted to the card with Stampin’ Dimensionals. A happy birthday card that uses some of my favorite Designer Series Paper ever, Kaleidoscope! I hope that you enjoyed the pictures and the card for today. Thanks so much for sharing in my day and I hope that you have a great Sunday! 🙂

Paper Craft Crew 99

Things are chugging right along here. Thankfully it’s Wednesday and we are halfway through one of the busiest weeks I’ve had in a long time. From now on when I say I’m busy (with crafty things), I’ll appreciate it more. LOL! It was another nice day here today. Work was work, as usual. Our favorite moving assistant Andrew was back over last night and more boxes were packed, papers shredded, and purging accomplished. I started to pack up my stamp sets. They have so far filled 2 36-gallon totes. I think I may have a problem. If you may suffer from the same problem, call 1-800-2MNYSTMPS. LOL! On an even sadder note, there’s probably another full 36-gallon tote to be filled.

It’s Wednesday, and that means that I’m over on the Paper Craft Crew blog for this week’s sketch challenge…

PCCCS099 6-25-2014

An interesting sketch, don’t you think? For my card I started off with a base of Whisper White Card Stock. The background is a piece of All Abloom Designer Series Paper Stack on the top and to keep it simple, a plain of piece of Blushing Bride on the bottom. To hide the seam, I stamped a piece of Baked Brown Sugar with the Draw the Line Photopolymer Stamp Set in Baked Brown Sugar. The greeting on the center panel is from the Age Awareness Photopolymer Stamp Set and is stamped in Island Indigo on Whisper White and backed with a piece of Blushing Bride. The “Celebrate You” and cupcake both come from the Cupcake Party Stamp Set. The “Celebrate You” Is stamped in Island Indigo and cut out with the Word Bubbles Framelits. The cupcake is stamped in Blushing Bride and Baked Brown Sugar and punched out with the Cupcake Builder Punch. To finish off the card I punched out a piece of Island Indigo with the 1″ Circle Punch and adhered 3 stars from the 2013-2015 In-Color Sequin Assortment. All of the elements on the card are propped up using Stampin’ Dimensionals. I like the way that the greetings from the Age Awareness and Cupcake Party Stamp Sets coordinate. It makes for easy stamp set collaboration. Not to mention, I really like the font. And there you have my Design Team card for this week’s Paper Craft Crew sketch challenge. Take a little time and head on over to the blog to see what the rest of the Design Team has done with the sketch and don’t forget to enter your card in the gallery!

Freshly Made Sketches 141

It was a hot one here yesterday. We got up into the 90’s and it was a little on the humid side too. It’s days like that I love my convertible even more! I got into the car after work and put the top down… instant happy! LOL! The rest of the evening didn’t quite go as planned though. I didn’t get to paint because I wasn’t able to get the key until 8:30. I guess I’ll have to give it another try tonight. I did pick out my paint colors though. The bedroom will be a Smoky Slate like color and the Living Room will be a slightly darker version of Pool Party. I figure two rooms is a good start! Fingers crossed that it happens tonight! 🙂

My post for today is for this week’s Freshly Made Sketches challenge. This week’s sketch is provided by Cindy H….

Freshly Made Sketches #141

It looks a little like a window does’t it?! I thought this would be a good opportunity to use a piece of Designer Series Paper that I didn’t think I would use, that is until I found a new stamp that goes pretty well with it. The card starts off with a base of Daffodil Delight Card Stock. My piece of Designer Series Paper is from the All Abloom Designer Series Paper Stack and is cut to match the sketch. For the greeting I used one of the stamps from the Oh My Goodies Stamp Set inked in Island Indigo and cut out with the Deco Labels Collection Framelits. I stamped it again in Daffodil Delight and cut out just the umpteenth and popped it up on Stampin’ Dimensionals. A super simple card but a good one to have in a pinch! Even though the DSP is a little busy I think that fact that it’s cut apart tones it down a bit. There you have my card for this week’s Freshly Made Sketches challenge. I hope that it inspires you to try something a little different! Thank you for coming by today, hopefully I will have some painting pictures for you tomorrow! Enjoy your Thursday! 🙂

Paper Craft Crew 98

It’s getting a little hotter here and it was definitely more muggy today, but it was sunny and beautiful nonetheless. I keep saying it, but anything is better than the polar vortex. Work was productive and I even got to go on a little field trip which is always a good thing. When I got home last night, Andrew came over and we tackled a ton more packing and threw out a bunch of stuff! Tonight is painting, provided that I get the key. Fingers crossed! LOL! I also settled on a color, can you take a guess as to what it is?

It’s Wednesday, so that means I’m over on the Paper Craft Crew for our sketch challenge this week…

PCCCS098 DT Sketch 6-18-2014

I used the All Abloom Designer Series Paper Stack for my color inspiration on today’s card, strangely, I didn’t use any of the DSP. LOL! The base of the card is Mossy Meadow Card Stock and for my background I used the Striped Scallop Thinlits Die and a piece of Daffodil Delight. I find that a piece of wax paper in between the card stock and die makes removal much easier. The foundation for my flowers is a piece of Pistachio Pudding that I cut out with the Banners Framelits and for some extra pizzazz I put some Gold Foil Sheet across the top of it. All of the images and greeting are from the Flower Patch Stamp Set. I used Daffodil Delight for the large flower, Blushing Bride and Strawberry Slush for the smaller flowers and the leaves are Pistachio Pudding and Mossy Meadow. They are all cut out with the Flower Fair Framelits. The greeting is stamped in Strawberry Slush and I used a standard hold punch to make the ticket corners. The greeting and the large flower are both adhered to the card with Stampin’ Dimensionals. I like the fact that the Flower Patch Stamp Set is photopolymer because it makes the two step process very easy (on the small flowers and leaves). Even though the Striped Scallop Thinlits are a lot of work, they really add a nice touch to the card, so I think it’s worth it. There you have my Paper Craft Crew Design Team card for this week’s sketch challenge. Take a few minutes to peek at the blog and see what the other designers have come up with. I would like to see your take on the sketch, so please enter your card in the gallery! I thank you for coming by today and wish you a wonderful Wednesday! 🙂

Paper Players 199 & Brooklyn

Yes, it’s Monday again but I had such a nice day yesterday I don’t even care! I headed into Manhattan around 7:45am and got there around 8:40, not a bad ride in at all! I met Kim at her apartment and we headed over to the Diner for some breakfast. I had some whole wheat pancakes and they were delicious! We then made our way to the subway to head downtown. The subway in the summer on the weekends is so nice, it took us 12 minutes to get from 86th Street to the Brooklyn Bridge stop on the 5 train. As soon as you come out of the subway the bridge is right there so off we went. It’s a pretty cool experience to walk across the Brooklyn Bridge, you are up above the cars and there are amazing views of the city. I have a bunch of pictures, so many that I will post some today and some tomorrow! We wandered around in DUMBO for a little while and then had some ice cream from the Brooklyn Ice Cream Factory, I had coffee and it was delicious! We decided that it was a nice day for a boat ride so we took the NY Waterway boat back to Manhattan. It goes up Brooklyn and then across to 34th Street. After we got off the boat we made our way over to the movie theater to see Maleficient. It was a great movie! Angelia Jolee is perfect as Maleficent. If you don’t know what it’s about it’s a retelling of Sleeping Beauty and it’s really done well. After the movies we headed back up to Kim’s neighborhood and had some Nick’s pizza for dinner and then I headed home. A pretty awesome day! And now for some pictures…

IMG_0224

This is when you first start walking across to Brooklyn.

IMG_0230

Here is me with Manhattan behind me. (In my Coastal Cabana shirt! LOL!)

IMG_0241

Me again with the bridge behind me.

IMG_0250

This is a pretty neat picture of the bridge with the skyline behind it. You can see the Freedom Tower too.

IMG_0254

That’s the Manhattan Bridge.

IMG_0251

And this is just a pretty neat picture of the skyline of lower Manhattan.

IMG_0261

Tomorrow I’ll post some of the ones from the boat so be sure and come back! 🙂

I want to thank Ann Schach for choosing me as her pick for last week’s wedding challenge over at the Paper Players. You can see the winner’s post HERE and my original post HERE.

Now on to this week’s Paper Players challenge. Jaydee has a very patriotic one for us this week…

Paper Players #199

Red, White and Blue, I immediately thought of July 4th but also thought that a lot of other people would do that so I went a different route. My card starts off with a base of Real Red Card Stock. For the background I used the Darling Doily Thinlit to cut out a piece of Night of Navy and adhered it to the card and snipped off some of the left side. My tag is created with the Scalloped Tag Topper Punch and the bottom corners are rounded with the Project Life Corner Rounder. My greeting and “ice cream” are both from the Cupcake Party Stamp Set. The greeting is stamped in Night of Navy on the tag and the “ice cream” is heat embossed with White Stampin’ Emboss Powder on Real Red and punched out with the Cupcake Builder Punch. The cone is punched out with the Pennants Punch and embossed with the Tiny Triangles Textured Impressions Embossing Folder. Thanks to Linda for putting the idea into my head! A piece of Vintage White 1/4″ Stitched Grosgrain Ribbon is tied through the top of the tag to finish the card. The icing from the Cupcake Party Set makes neat ice cream too don’t you think?! I hope that you enjoyed my card for this week’s Paper Players color challenge. Thanks you very much for coming by to see my card and share in my Sunday! Love having you stop by! Enjoy your day! 🙂

Thursday! I know, I do the countdown starting on Wednesday every week almost. Some weeks I’m just more ready for the weekend than others. I’m especially looking forward to this afternoon when my Box ‘O New Stampin’ Goodies arrives! It is going to be a long day! LOL! They said rain yesterday but it didn’t start until after midnight so it was another nice day here. A bit more humid but still sunny and we are supposed to have a nice weekend too! I will get into Manhattan this weekend! I hope! I went and spoke to my neighbor after work for a bit, come home and made a card and managed to run to Target. A pretty productive evening, those are always the best aren’t they?!

My post for today is for this week’s Mojo Monday sketch challenge. This week’s sketch is provided by Julee Tilman…

This card went through many changes on it’s way to what it finally became! Sometimes that happens, right?! The base is Basic Black Card Stock. My background is a piece of Lost Lagoon on the left that I embossed with the Alphabet Press Textured Impressions Embossing Folder and a strip of adhesive cork sheet on the right. The center panel is a piece of Modern Medley Designer Series Paper backed with a piece of Basic Black. Across the bottom is a piece of 7/8″ Cotton Ribbon that I flagged the right side of. I used some Fast Fuse Adhesive to adhere it to the panel. The greeting is from the Label Love Stamp Set and is stamped in Lost Lagoon and punched out with the Artisan Label Punch. I cut out another piece of adhesive cork sheet with the Circles Collection Framelits and backed it with a piece of Crumb Cake. The label and circle are adhered together with Fast Fuse too. Finally I punched out some stars with the Itty Bitty Accents Punch Pack from Lost Lagoon and adhered then to the card with Stampin’ Dimensionals. I think that the Lost Lagoon and the cork give the card a vintage feel and that this would make a great masculine birthday card! And there you have my card for this week’s Mojo Monday Sketch challenge. I really hope that you enjoyed the card, I want to thank you for coming by and I hope that you all have a terrific Thursday! Oh, don’t forget to come back tomorrow to see who wins the blog candy! 🙂

Doily Blossoms Lace Birthday

Sometimes playing it by ear is a good thing. I had a nice day yesterday filled with friends. Kim asked me to watch the munchkins for a bit while she ran to the store. Izzy and I sat and colored while Savannah sat in the laundry basket and played on the iPad. After that I went over to see Heather, She did something to her back so we went to the Dr. and then out to lunch. The evening was capped off by an impromptu BBQ and some wine. I came home and decided that I needed a little destruction so I watched A Good Day to Die Hard. The perfect movie when you want some explosions! LOL! Pretty good day huh?! What have you all been up to?!

Today I’m sharing with you a card that I made for my friend Danielle to send to her aunt. When I make a card for someone, especially someone that I know, I try to incorporate a little bit of them into the card, The base of the card is Very Vanilla Card Stock. I stamped the Hello Doily Stamp onto a piece of Very Vanilla in Soft Sky and then the greeting in Melon Mambo from the Simply Sketched Host(ess) Stamp Set. Across the middle is a piece of the 5/8″ Crochet Trim. I stamped a ticket from the That’s the Ticket Stamp Set in Blushing Bride and punched it out with the Ticket Duo Builder Punch. The flagged piece is stamped with one of the stamps from The Open Sea Stamp Set in Lost Lagoon and one of the Very Vintage Designer Buttons with some Linen Thread tied in a bow is adhered on top of them with a Mini Glue Dot. Next up are three flowers and some leaves from the Stippled Blossoms Stamp Set. They are stamped in Blushing Bride and Melon Mambo for the flowers and Wild Wasabi and Always Artichoke for the leaves. Some Paper Snip action and Stampin’ Dimensionals help get them on the card. To finish it off I “scattered” some Basic Jewels Pearls. The card has a vintage feel but with a clean and modern twist just like the person that received it! I had fun making this card and love the way it came out and hope that you do too! Thanks for coming by to see me today, have a lovely Sunday! 🙂
