Creation Station Inaugural Post

creation station header

It has been a busy couple of days on the JK Cards blog! Friday I had four projects, yesterday I had two and today I have three! Today is the first post for a new design team called the Creation Station. We are here to give you lots of inspiration, so there will be plenty of photos. Every other Sunday we will focus on a few stamp sets and other items from the catalog giving you ideas on how to incorporate different items together in new and fun ways. I was honored when I was asked by Jen Arkfeld to participate and what fun it is to be with such a talented group of people. Feedback from you is very important, so be sure to let us know what you think! Let’s get started, shall we?

The first stamp set that we are focusing on today is the Stippled Blossoms Stamp Set. It’s a two step stamp set that gives you great shading details. My card begins with a base of Whisper White Card Stock and I stamped the Hardwood Background Stamp in Sahara Sand directly on it. Across the top is a thin piece of Gold Foil Sheet. The flowers from the stamp set are stamped in Strawberry Slush and Rose Red.

Creation Station Card 1 Creation Station Card 2

The Stamp-a-ma-jig make the two step stamping nice and easy. The leaves are stamped in Old Olive and Always Artichoke. They are all cut out with my Paper Snips.

Creation Station Card 3

To back them, I created a tag from Crumb Cake Card Stock using the Scalloped Tag Topper Punch. I stamped the flourish from the Everything Eleanor Stamp Set in Old Olive and adhered the tag and flowers to the base with Stampin’ Dimensionals. My greeting is from the Label Something Stamp Set and in stamped in Old Olive, punched out with the Ticket Duo Builder Punch and it too is adhered with Stampin’ Dimensionals. I cut the card base to 4 inches wide so I could let the flowers hang off the side of the card, while still allowing the card to fit into a standard sized envelope. I really like the Hardwood Background with the florals, it gives the card a nice, outdoorsy feel.

Creation Station Card 5

Creation Station Card 4

On to the next card! The next stamp set we focused on is the Geometrical Stamp Set. I did a hybrid card using both the stamp set and the digital download with my E-Cutter. The card base is Strawberry Slush Card Stock. The panel is a piece of Bermuda Bay that I cut out with my E-Cutter and the Geometrical Digital Download.

Creation Station Card 6

I stamped the second part of the greeting in Basic Black from the Traditional Stamp Set.

Creation Station Card 7

Each of the cut out triangles is backed with a piece of the Kaleidoscope Designer Series Paper. The triangles are stamped in Basic Black, Basic Gray and Crushed Curry and they are all punched out with the Triangle Punch. The panel and all of the triangles are adhered to the card with Stampin’ Dimensionals. I think the sentiment and the triangles look really cool when they are cut out of the panel and the DSP behind the triangles is a fun way to tie in the colors of the card.

Creation Station Card 9

Creation Station Card 8

The last we are focusing on today are the Tag a Bag Gift Boxes. There is a neat accessory kit that you can buy to go with them, but I opted to do something a little different. After assembling the box, I stamped a piece of Very Vanilla Card Stock with the Dictionary Background Stamp and scored it with the Simply Scored Scoring Tool.

Creation Station Box 10

I wrapped a piece of Watercolor Wonder Designer Washi Tape and a piece of Crushed Curry 3/4″ Chevron Ribbon lengthwise around the card stock before adhering it to the acetate sleeve with the new Fast Fuse Adhesive. My flowers are from the Secret Garden Stamp Set, I stamped them in Memento Tuxedo Black and colored them in using the Daffodil Delight Stampin’ Blendabilities Markers.

Creation Station Box 11

The Secret Garden Framelits cut them out and Stampin’ Dimensionals adhere them to the ribbon. My greeting is from the Four You Stamp Set and is stamped, again, in Memento Tuxedo Black. I flagged the ends of the strip and adhered it to the box with Stampin’ Dimensionals. Some Basic Jewels Pearls in the centers of the flowers complete the box. I think the Dictionary Background Stamp is a perfect background canvas for a little box like this and I really love the way the flowers came out using the new Blendabilities Markers.

And there are my three projects for my first ever Creation Station Design Team post!

Catherine & Cathy Create 31

First let me apologize for the email that you received about my post last night. I was trying to productive and type my post on the train on the way into Manhattan and I accidentally posted it instead of saving it as a draft. Such a dunce! LOL! This is the actual real post, so sorry again. From now on we type the posts on the phone in Evernote and not the WordPress App! Speaking of Manhattan, dinner was good and the show was excellent as always! As soon as I have some time I’ll post some of the video here. Oh and it poured non stop. By the time I did get home I could actually wring the water out of my pants. I only got to take one picture outside the venue. It was under an awning, the only dry place to be had as there was a leak in part of the ceiling in Tammany Hall too. It’s just the street but I find that you can see so much in Manhattan just looking down the street…

Outside Tammany Hall

Nothing exciting, just some buildings and cars. I do think that the buildings in Manhattan are neat, there are no two that are exactly alike. Not the most exciting picture but a little view of what I saw last night. 🙂

Today I’m over on the Catherine & Cathy Create blog for the monthly challenge…

CCC Challenge General Logo

I have had the Natural Composition Designer Series Paper forever and I think I have only used it once! Seeing as it’s going “Vintage” I thought I should use it now! The base of my card starts off with a piece of Whisper White Card Stock and the background is a piece of the Naturals Composition Designer Series Paper. My main panel is also Whisper White. The letters may look familiar, they are the ones that were cut out of yesterday’s card! I used some 2-Way Glue to adhere them. A piece of Watercolor Wonder Designer Washi Tape goes across the middle and some Stampin’ Dimensionals adhere it to the base. The two large stars are from the Simply Starts Stamp Set are stamped in Bermuda Bay. I used the “Vintage” Large Star Punch to punch them out. The small gold stars are Gold Foil Sheet and that are punched out with the Merry Minis Punch Pack. For the medium star I used some Champagne Glimmer Paper and the star from the Circle Card Thinlits. My greeting is from the Hello, Lovely Stamp Set, I selectively stamped just the “Lovely” and heat embossed it in Gold Stampin’ Emboss Powder and cut out with the Bitty Banners Framelits. Stampin’ Dimensionals hold all of the elements to the panel. I really like the bright white, blue and gold against the kraft color of the Designer Series Paper. I’m a little bummed that I didn’t use it more! You can go and see what the rest of the Design Team have come up with for the challenge by taking a little visit to the blog. Did you enjoy today’s card? Let me know what you thought by leaving a comment. Thanks for taking the time to come and see me! Have a fantastic Thursday!

Paper Craft Crew 91 & Pics

I will not lie to you I was tired yesterday! Apparently four hours of sleep isn’t enough for me! I usually am good with four and a half but four just doesn’t work! LOL! I did manage to get a lot accomplished at work and I got to have dinner with my parents now that they are back from London. I’ll admit that I missed them! Mum did bring me back loads of candy and chocolate, I see a diet in my future in a couple of weeks! Did you all like the picture from yesterday of the Catalog cover? You got to see some of the neat new products that they have. I did get to meet some people while I was at the Catalog Premiere. I have two pictures from it that Crystal “Super Stamp Girl” was nice enough to send me. The first one is of her, Sandy and I and the second one is of Laurie, Sandy and I. Yes, I’m a complete geek, that is my Satellite Lane A Cappella t-shirt!

Premiere1 Premiere2

I love when I get to meet the people that I talk to on my blog! Thanks for sending the pictures Crystal!

Speaking of Satellite Lane, I’m off to Manhattan tonight to have some dinner with my friend Kim and then after we are going to head downtown to see them perform at Tammany Hall. Hopefully I’ll get some pictures, it’s supposed to rain all day tomorrow. Not the best weather but it will be a good time anyway!

It’s Wednesday so that means that I’m over on the Paper Craft Crew blog for this week’s sketch challenge…

PCCS091 Sketch 4-30-2014

As soon as I saw the speech bubble I knew that I needed the Word Bubbles Digital Download! The base of the card is Basic Gray Card Stock and the background is a piece of Kaleidoscope Designer Series Paper. I used my E-Cutter and the Word Bubbles Digital Download to cut out a piece of Bermuda Bay with the Hello cut out from the inside too. Before I adhered it to the card I put another small piece of the Kaleidoscope Designer Series Paper behind it and the used Stampin’ Dimensionals to pop it up over it. The arrows are from the Label Card Thinlits, I modified them slightly by removing the tails with my Paper Snips. I cut the three triangles from the same DSP with my Paper Snips and adhered all of the pieces with some more Stampin’ Dimensionals. Yes, there is no stamping on the card at all! That doesn’t happen very often but the E-Cutter and MDS Digital Downloads make cutting out stuff so much fun sometimes you don’t need to stamp! I really hope that you enjoyed my Design Team card for this week’s Paper Craft Crew sketch! Go and visit the blog and see what my teammates have done with the sketch and have a try yourself! Thank you so much for coming by to see what I’ve been up to. I hope that you all have a great Wednesday! 🙂

Mojo 343

Well, that was a fun event last night! Definitely worth the 2 1/2 hour drive! The presentation was great, lots of projects and demonstrations of the new products. We all got the new 2014-2015 Annual Catalog, a copy of the new Stampin’ Success and a new stamp set called Work of Art. We are allowed to post pictures of the catalog cover and those of you that follow me on Instagram got to see it last night but for those of you that don’t here it is!

2014-2015 Catalog

Now that is a great cover don’t you think?! Now the most exciting thing for me is the fact that they have brought back my favorite punch of all time, the Spiral Border Punch! I would like to think that I played a role in that but I doubt it! LOL! Oh, and the sequins, they are pretty cool too! There are so many cool things in it, you are going to love it! 🙂

Moving right along, Tuesday means it time for the Stampin’ Up! weekly deals so here they are…

Tuesday also means that it’s time for this week’s Mojo Monday sketch challenge and Julee Tilman has given us another fun tall & skinny one…

Mojo343

I do really enjoy the tall & skinny ones. I thought about the sketch on the way home in the car and yes, I made the card last night at 12:00am when I got home! The base of the card is Very Vanilla Card Stock. For the background I used a piece of Pool Party and a piece of Soft Sky and embossed them with the Alphabet Press Textured Impressions Embossing Folder. The larger panel is a piece of Brushed Gold Card Stock backed with some Soft Suede and the smaller one is a piece of Etcetera Designer Series Paper backed with Night of Navy. They are both adhered to the card with Stampin’ Dimensionals and a thin strip of Gold Foil Sheet goes across the middle. My greeting is from the A Round Array Stamp Set and is stamped in Night of Navy and punched out with the 7/8″ Scallop Circle Punch. The feather is from the Feathered Woodcuts Digital Download and is cut out with my E-Cutter from Crumb Cake. I used a Stampin’ Spritzer with Bermuda Bay Re-Inker and a little “Vintage” Champagne Shimmer Paint to color it. A few more Stampin’ Dimensionals hold it in place and there you have my card for this week’s Mojo Monday sketch. I love those Feathered Woodcuts cut out with the E-Cutter and blue, all of the blues, are my favorite color! Thank you so much for checking in today to get a peek at the new catalog cover and to see my card. I hope you all have a terrific Tuesday! 🙂

Feather Grid Woodcut

Yesterday was supposed to be the last chilly day for a while, today we are supposed to get into the lower 60s! Umm… it is spring right?! Work was pretty good today, I did get out a whole hour early! I stopped home and started a project and then Anthony and Bill came and picked me up to take me to dinner. We did end up going to Friday’s and had a different dessert, Salted Caramel Cake. It was quite delicious, not as sweet as the Tennessee Whiskey Cake but just as good. Anytime something comes with ice cream it has to be good right?! After dinner I stopped home and then went over to see Brian & Kim for a while. I finished off the evening by making a card, the best way to end the day!

My card for today is the card that I made last night. When I used my E-Cutter to cut out the Feathered Woodcuts I cut a bunch of them out so I have them ready to use on a project. The base of today’s card is Sahara Sand Card Stock. My background is a piece of Bermuda Bay and I wrapped a piece of Watercolor Wonder Designer Washi Tape around the lower half and stamped the greeting from the A Dozen Thoughts Stamp Set in Basic Black before adhering it to the base with Stampin’ Dimensionals. I stamped the feather with Versa-Mark and heat embossed it with Gold Stampin’ Emboss Powder. A piece of Linen Thread holds a Brights Designer Button to the feather and some more Stampin’ Dimensionals adhere it to the card. Not overly complicated but I love the gold embossing on the feather and the button is the perfect finishing touch! I hope that you enjoyed my card for today and that you have a fun Saturday. Thanks so much for checking in! 🙂

Paper Players 190

Not a bad Sunday if I do say so myself! I did some crafty stuff in the morning and some laundry. Met Heather for lunch and some errands. They make an excellent tuna wrap at the deli on Central Avenue in Bethpage so we went there and sat outside! Yes, I said sat outside! It was definitely a plus!! After some errands we went back to Heather’s and we listened to some music while she made sauce from scratch. I’m a little obsessed with Zedd at the moment. He’s a DJ but he also does acoustic versions of his songs with live instruments. You can learn more about him HERE. What kind of fun stuff were you up to today?!

It’s Monday and you know what that means, it’s time for this week’s Paper Players challenge! This week LeAnne has given us a “Three-Spree” challenge…

Paper Players #190

I had a little more fun with my E-Cutter on today’s card. The base of my card is Bermuda Bay Card Stock. On top of that is the background piece, some Pool Party, which I popped up with Stampin’ Dimensionals because I cut the “HELLO” out with my E-Cutter and placed some Gold Foil Sheet behind the open letters. The cool thing is that hone I cut out the letters, it also cut out the perfectly sized piece of Card Stock that I needed to use as a background. The feathers are also cut out with the E-Cutter from the Feathered Woodcuts Digital Download from Bermuda Bay. I stamped them in Versa-Mark with one of the stamps from the Gorgeous Grunge Stamp Set and heat embossed them with Gold Stampin’ Emboss Powder. A piece of Linen Thread is wrapped around the card and threaded through a Naturals Designer Button and tied in a bow. I finished off the card with some gold and “Bermuda Bay” sequins placed around the card. Following the challenge, I have three feathers and three of each of the sequins; since there are two types of sequins, I have three sets of three objects placed on the card. Challenge accomplished! LOL! For those of you that haven’t tried the E-Cutter, I hope my card has inspired you to experiment. The possibilities are endless and it’s a fun addition to your card-making arsenal. I hope you’ve enjoyed my card for this week’s Paper Player’s challenge! Thanks as always for stopping by, and I hope your week gets off to a great start! 🙂

Pals Paper Arts 196

The weekend is better when it starts a day earlier! I had a nice day yesterday, I did manage to get all of the stuff done that I wanted to. I even got to have lunch with my friend Kim and that was nice. Heather and I went to dinner last night to celebrate a friends birthday with a bunch of people. We had a great time, there was even some fire pit afterwards! Tonight Andrew’s group Satellite Lane is competing in the Regional Harmony Sweeps in Manhattan, that should be fun! Wish them luck!

For today I have my card for this week’s Pals Paper Arts challenge. This week we have a sketch from Margaret Moody…

PPA 196

As you all know I have been having lots of fun playing with my E-Cutter. Mainly I have used it to cut out greetings but today I tried something a little different. My card starts off with a base of Real Red Card Stock. My background is a piece of paper from the Fresh Prints Designer Series Paper Stack, adhered over to the left to go with the sketch. For my greeting I choose a stamp from the Everyday Occasions Card Kit and stamped it in Coastal Cabana on Whisper White and backed it with a piece of Baked Brown Sugar. That large triangle is from the Geometrical Stamp Brush Set and is resized and cut out with my E-Cutter. Some Stampin’ Dimensionals pieces adhere it to the card. It really is quite cool what detailed and crisp cuts you can get using a Stamp Brush Set and the E-Cutter. I love the way the triangle looks over the DSP! I hope that my foray into using my E-Cutter inspires you to give it a try and that you enjoyed today’s card for this week’s Pals Paper Arts sketch challenge. Thanks so much for visiting me today, have a super Saturday! 🙂

Control Freaks February Blog Tour

freakwelcome2013

Hello everyone and welcome to this month’s Control Freaks Blog Tour. This month we had an “anything goes” kind of theme. We could choose pretty much anything we wanted, fun! If you are following the tour you have arrived here from the talented Barb Mullikin’s blog. I have three cards and they are completely different from anything I’ve done before. I’ve used MDS and my e-cutter to make them. Let’s get started, shall we?!

My first card uses a bold, bright color combination. The card base is Crumb Cake. Next up is a layer of Pistachio Pudding and on top of that is a piece of Crisp Cantaloupe that I embossed with the Arrows Textured Impressions Embossing Folder. I used MDS and my e-cutter to cut out the mustaches from the the Many Mustaches Stamp Brush Set and the greeting from the Moments Ago Stamp Brush Set. Both cut out from Coastal Cabana, the mustaches are adhered with Stampin’ Dimensionals and the “awesome” with 2-Way Glue. A fun simple card and the bold color is definitely not for the feign of heart!

CF Feb Tour Card 1-WM

My second card is a little more subdued. The base of the card is Crumb Cake Card Stock and my background is a piece of Very Vanilla. Across the lower half of the card is some Retro Fresh This and That Designer Washi Tape. My feather is from the Feathered Woodcuts Kit-Digital Download and my banner is from the One Big Sale-A-Bration 2014 Digital Ensemble. The feather is cut out from Crumb Cake and the banner from Coastal Cabana. I really love the detail on the feather and the Washi Tape sets the whole card off nicely.

CF Feb Tour Card 2-WM

My last card hits very close to home! I used Baked Brown Sugar for my card base. On top of that is a piece of Coastal Cabana and my background is a piece of Soft Sky embossed with the Stylish Stripes Textured Impressions Embossing Folder. My “hello” greeting is from the Moments Ago Stamp Brush Set and is adhered to the card with 2-Way Glue. The New York state is from the Fifty Nifty Kit-Digital Download and is cut out of Baked Brown Sugar. I added a Basic Jewels Rhinestone to show you all where I fall on the map! A simple, but fun card and with the Fifty Nifty Kit you can cut out any state you want!

CF Feb Tour Card 3-WM

So there you have my first foray into the world of My Digital Studio and e-cutters! I still think I prefer the traditional way to make cards but it does add some more options to your crafting arsenal doesn’t it?! There was a little bit of a learning curve but once I figured it all out I had a lot of fun! I hope that you enjoyed my projects for this month’s Control Freaks Blog Tour. Now you are off to see what clever Debbie Henderson has in store for you! Enjoy the rest of the tour! 🙂

Ahh… Friday! Today is an especially good Friday because I am getting out of work at 12:00pm. I need to do my taxes but it beats work! LOL! We are to get some rain later on but it’s supposed to warm up over the weekend. I’m off to the NY Auto Show tomorrow morning with some friends, should be fun. I haven’t been in a few years. What are you all up to this weekend? Did you enjoy the blog hop yesterday?! There were some pretty good projects, huh?!

Before we get to today’s post Stampin’ Up! had some news for us today. First there will be FREE shipping on all regular (non-expedited) orders Saturday April 6th through Monday April 8th. They have also announced their color refresh! I’m so happy that they have kept four of the five 2011-2013 In-Colors! I’m a little sad to see that Lucky Limeade didn’t make the cut but we also got some former In-Colors back too! Bermuda Bay, Soft Sky, Crushed Curry, Pear Pizzaz and Blushing Bride along with a new color Smokey Shadow. They have also moved some colors to different families and of course they are retiring some colors. Say so long to Regal Rose, Pretty in Pink, Bashful Blue, Certainly Celery, Baja Breeze, Riding Hood Red, Bravo Burgundy, Not Quite Navy, More Mustard and River Rock. You can see where they all are now in the image below.

No for the card! Today I have my card for this week’s Create with Connie and Mary challenge. This week we have a color challenge…

CCMC 246

As soon as I saw this I thought of my favorite… Sent with Love, but I decided to do something a little different! The base of my card is Whisper White Card Stock and for the background a piece of Island Indigo. I used MDS and my E-Cutter with the Hexagon Punch to cut a piece of Sent with Love Designer Series Paper. After some careful adhering and a little trimming I had the pattern for the main panel. All of the pieces are adhered to a piece of Real Red and backed with a piece of Calypso Coral. The greeting is from the Sent with Love Stamp Set and is stamped in Island Indigo and cut out with my Paper Snips. The piece behind it is created with the Epic Day This and That Designer Washi Tape. I adhered it to a piece of Whisper White and trimmed a little off of the top and bottom. The greeting is then adhered to it with some Stampin’ Dimensional pieces. I really do love the Sent with Love bundle and it’s only available until April 30th. The colors are great and so are the images! There you have my card for this week’s Create with Connie and Mary color challenge. I hope that you enjoyed it and thanks for visiting! Have an amazing Friday!

Paper Players #139 :-)

Hey there! Happy Easter! How is your weekend so far? Mine is pretty good. I got a lot of my projects done yesterday and I will finish them up today. It was beautiful here yesterday, 60 degrees and sunny. I went for a little ride in the car with the top down. It felt so nice to feel the sun and the breeze. It’s supposed to be nice here this morning but get overcast later. Any egg hunts should be completed in the first half of the day! I’ll be having some dinner with my family later, good times.

Today being Sunday means it’s time for this week’s Paper Players Challenge. This week we have a Tic-Tac-Toe from Jaydee…

Paper Players #139 Tic-Tac-Toe 3-31-2013

I did the the diagonal from top left to bottom right, although I hit a few of the other boxes too. At least I didn’t try to do them all like the last time! LOL! I did do something a little different with my card today too. For the first time I made a hybrid card using the This and That Epic Day Digital Kit. I downloaded it from Stampin’ Up! and created a project in My Digital Studio. I just laid out some of the embellishments on an 8 1/2″ x 11″ page and shared the project as a JPEG. I opened it in Preview on my Mac and I printed it out. My Paper Trimmer and Paper Snips took care of the rest. The base of the card is Daffodil Delight Card Stock. The background, tickets, chevrons and tag are all form the This and That Epic Day Digital Kit. The tickets and chevrons are adhered to the card with Stampin’ Dimensionals. I backed the note tag with a piece of Basic Gray, rounded the corners with the 3/16″ Corner Rounder, and punched a hole in the top where I threaded some Linen Thread. Some Gumball Green and the Little Leaves Sizzlit supply the greenery. I created the flowers using the new A Round Array Stamp Set form the 2013-2014 Catalog. They are stamped in Primrose Petals and punched out with the 7/8″ Scallop Circle Punch and adhered with Stampin’ Dimensionals. Some Basic Jewels Pearls finish off the card. I love the This and That Epic Day goodies. I’ll get my actual products tomorrow but I had so much fun making the card with the print outs I will definitely do it again! I hope that you enjoyed my Guest Designer card for this week’s Paper Players Tic-Tac-Toe Challenge from Jaydee. Stop by the blog to see what my fellow designers have for you and add your card to the gallery! Thank you for checking in with me today. Once again, Happy Easter!
