Control Freaks December Blog Tour

Hello everyone and welcome to the Control Freaks December Blog Tour. This month we are featuring sneak peeks from the upcoming 2015 Occasions and Sale-A-Bration Catalogs. You can order from the catalogs starting January 6, 2015. If you are following along on the tour you have arrived here from Melissa Davies blog. Such awesome projects as always. I have two cards and a treat holder for you today! I kept my theme very masculine too! Love all of the new “guy” stamp sets and Designer Series Paper in the new catalog!

Lets get started with my first card which is a birthday card. The card base is Soft Suede Card Stock and the background is a piece of Crumb Cake that I embossed with my favorite, the Woodgrain Textured Impressions Embossing Folder. A piece of paper from the Adventure Bound Designer Series Paper Stack is adhered on top of that. To create my tag I used the new Ornate Tag Topper punch and a piece of Very Vanilla. My image is from the Guy Greetings Photopolymer Stamp Set and is stamped in Memento Tuxedo Black and colored in with my Crumb Cake and Skin Tone Assortment Stampin’ Blendabilities Markers. A piece of Gold Baker’s Twine is knotted in the top and the tag is adhered to the card with Stampin’ Dimensionals. A few dots of Crystal Effects keep the tails in place. My greeting is from the Four You Stamp Set and is heat embossed on Vellum and cut out with the Project Life Cards and Labels Framelits. Some carefully placed 2-Way Glue adheres it to the card. I love the new Adventure Bound Designer Series Paper Stack, the photographic pages are great and they are all neat prints on the other side!

The second card that I have for you is a masculine take on a shaker card. For this one I used Island Indigo Card Stock for the card base. The background is another piece of paper from the Adventure Bound Designer Series Paper Stack backed with a piece of Basic Black before adhering it to the card base. I used the Gift Card Envelope & Trims Thinlit to cut out a piece of Vellum. The greeting is from the Adventure Awaits Photopolymer Stamp Set and is heat embossed in Black Stampin’ Emboss Powder. I put the envelope together with some Fast Fuse Adhesive and before closing the last flap I sprinkled in some Frosted Sequins and a few light blue ones that I had. The envelope is adhered to the card with some more Fast Fuse and two pieces of Stacked with Love Designer Washi Tape are placed on the top and bottom. I love the rippled water picture with the Island Indigo and Basic Black. The envelope makes a cool shaker for the sequins too!

For my final project I have a little treat bag. This is a made with a new Thinlit that’s pretty cool! Some Crumb Cake Card Stock is cut out with the new Mini Treat Bag Thinlits. I used some of the other elements in the Thinlits to cut out the two star borders and the center window. A piece of Window Sheet is adhered behind the middle cut out and some Night of Navy behind the stars. The enjoy is cut out form a piece of Silver Foil Sheet and adhered to the window with Multi-Purpose Glue. I put the bag together with Sticky Strip and slid a rather large chocolate chip cookie inside. A pretty neat way to give a little gift and since you make the bag yourself it can be made from and Designer Series Paper or Card Stock. You can coordinate it with anything that you would like!

Freshly Made Sketches 167

Oh yes! It’s Friday peeps! I have a lot to get done this weekend but that’s what happens when you leave everything to last minute! LOL! Oops! Yesterday work was work. I had some tacos with the ‘rents for dinner and then headed over to Heather’s for wine night! It’s so nice to just sit there and relax and talk and laugh! We all need that more often than we think! I tried a new wine by Cupcake Vineyards called Red Velvet and I have to say that it was quite delicious! I had notes of Chocolate and Blackberry! Yum! Not a bad way to roll into a Friday! Today is also my friend Grace’s birthday! Happy Birthday Grace!! I hope that you have a wonderful day!! 🙂

Before I get to my card I had to share this picture of little Daniel, he is just so cute I can’t stand it! Does’t he make an adorable little Santa?!?!

I know being the Uncle that I’m biased, but he really is too cute! 🙂

My post for today is for this week’s Freshly Made Sketches challenge from the lovely Narelle…

Super simple sketch, I knew just what I was going to use! My card begins with a base of Basic Black Card Stock. All of the pieces of Designer Series Paper are from the Stacked With Love Designer Series Paper Stack. The background is just adhered to the base. My horizontal panel is backed with Basic Black and the vertical panel with Real Red and adhered with Stampin’ Dimensionals. I stamped the image from the You Plus Me Stamp Set in Calypso Coral, punched out with the 2″ Circle Punch, it’s backed it with a piece of Calypso Coral that I cut out with the Circles Collection Framelits. The heart and the bow are from the Mini Treat Bag Thinlits Dies and are cut from Red Glimmer Paper. They are held in place with some Multi-Purpose Glue. I thought it needed something else and what better than some Matte Black Sequins?! They are adhered with Crystal Effects. I love the clean and simple look of the card and the way the bow, heart and sequins give it just the right amount of sparkle! Paper Craft Crew 123

A little over a week until Christmas and I don’t even have my cards made! I just can’t get into the groove lately! I did come home after work last night and make some cards, just not Holiday ones! My tree still has but five ornaments on it and I haven’t even thought about shopping yet! I really need to get it together! My mind is filled with all sorts of things, just not Holiday things. Maybe I’ll have a rally this weekend… then again maybe not! LOL! How are your Holiday preparations coming? I hope that you are further along than I am!

We are halfway through the week and that means that it’s Wednesday and time for this week’s Paper Craft Crew sketch challenge…

I have really been into blues lately and purple for some reason too. Today’s card starts off with a base of Bermuda Bay Card Stock and the background is a piece of paper from the Moonlight Designer Series Paper Stack. For my panel in the middle I embossed a piece of Pool Party with the Honeycomb Textured Impressions Embossing Folder and backed it with a piece of Basic Black. My butterfly is a piece of Watercolor Paper that I cut out with the Butterfly Thinlits*. I used my Mini Ink Blending Tool and some Bermuda Bay and Blackberry Bliss Ink to give it some color and adhered it to the card with Glue Dots. My triangles are Blackberry Bliss and Bermuda Bay and are punched out with the Triangle Punch and adhered with Stampin’ Dimensionals. For the greeting I choose one from the And Many More Stamp Set and heat embossed it in White Stampin’ Emboss Powder on Basic Black with the right side flagged. The embellishment is made with another piece of the Designer Series Paper and my Epiphany Crafts Shape Studio Round Epoxy Embellishment Maker that my friend Eva sent to me. In our current sea of Holiday cards I love the spring like feel of this one and the bold bright colors! I hope that you enjoyed my card for this weeks Paper Craft Crew sketch challenge. Stacked Sweet Ampersand Love

I had a very low key day yesterday. I had good intentions once again to get some stuff done, like decorate the tree. Unfortunately I failed to remember where I put the decorations when I moved so I decided to make it a crafty day and I got a bunch of cards made instead. Were they Christmas cards you might inquire? Of course not! They were thank you and birthday cards that I have needed to make. I’ll get around to the Christmas cards, hopefully! It was definitely a relaxing day so not bad for a Sunday! I hope that you had a nice day too!

So, occasionally my brain does weird things, for example today I have a valentine card. Why is that odd? Well it’s Christmas but when I looked at the date yesterday and saw it was the 14th it triggered Valentine’s Day! Like I said… weird! LOL! The card is packed full of new goodies so that makes up for it! The base of the card is Crisp Cantaloupe Card Stock. The background is a piece of Real Red. I used an element from the new Mini Treat Bag Thinlit* to cut out the hearts along the bottom of the panel. I then used the Ampersand Textured Impressions Embossing Folder and traced around it with a Copic Multi-liner Marker. My greeting is from the You Plus Me Stamp Set* and is heat embossed on Vellum in Gold Stampin’ Emboss Powder and cut out with the Hearts Collection Framelits. Some very carefully placed 2-Way Glue adheres it to the card. The teeny bow on top is made with the Bow Builder Punch and a piece f paper from the Stacked with Love Designer Series Paper Stack*. I used Sticky Strip to put the bow together and a Glue Dot to adhere it to the card. Like I said packed with new goodies! I hope that you enjoyed the sneak peek and early Valentine’s card! Ornate Bright Moonlight Christmas

Yesterday was a fun day. I tinkered in the Stampin’ Galley in the morning for a bit and then Andrew came over and we started working on getting his computer back in order. We installed a new hard drive and then began copying the backup over to it. While we were waiting we watched a bunch of videos on YouTube and Vevo. I came across Last Christmas by Wham!, I haven’t seen that video in years! Andrew ordered some pizza around 5:30 and we had dinner. He had to run to his dad’s to help out with his grandmother so I took a ride to see my friend Renee at her new scrapbook store Scrap-A-Latte in West Babylon. It’s coming along nicely! I met Andrew back at my house and we finished up the computer. He got most of his stuff back but we will make sure that he has a better backup plan in place so if this happens again he won’t loose anything! How was your Saturday?

Today I have a Christmas card that uses a new stamp from the Sale-A-Bration Catalog. I started the card off with a base of Soft Suede Card Stock and the background is a piece of paper from the Moonlight Designer Series Paper Stack. My tag is a piece of Smoky Slate that I created using the new Ornate Tag Topper Punch* from the 2015 Occasions Catalog. The tree is from the Holiday Home Photopolymer Stamp Set and is stamped in Soft Suede and my greeting is from the Endless Wishes Photopolymer Stamp Set and is stamped in Memento Tuxedo Black. The cute little house is from the You Made My Day Stamp Set** and is stamped in Memento Tuxedo Black on Sahara Sand and colored in with Prismacolor Pencils. I used gamsol and a paper stump to blend the pencils out for a nice smooth look. Some Wink of Stella is brushed on the roof of the house and the tips of tree branches for a little sparkle. The house is punched out with the What’s Up Punch and adhered to the card with Stampin’ Dimensionals. I tied a piece of Daffodil Delight 1/4″ Cotton Ribbon through the top and adhered the tag to the card with Stampin’ Dimensionals. A few Sparkling Clear 4mm sequins are adhered with Crystal Effects and complete the card. I love when I can pull together some non-holiday items and make a Christmas card! I also love the way the colored pencils are nice and vibrant on the Sahara Sand! I hope that you enjoyed my very non-traditional Christmas card for today! Paper Craft Crew 122

And it rained and was windy all day just like they said it would be! We got our Nor-Easter but again, at least it wasn’t snow! There was some flooding and a few tree limbs down here and there but not too bad. Work promises to be quite busy for the next few weeks, they do like to leave everything until the last possible second which makes me happy on a level that I am unable to describe! LOL! Last night I got to see little Daniel, his head is healing nicely and just for fun he has added another bruise right in the middle. We need to work on actually looking where we are going next! I got my 23 lb. box of pre-order goodies from Stampin’ Up! yesterday so I immediately had to play as soon as I got home! I did make a card and I will give you a little peek at it but you will have to wait until tomorrow to see the whole thing! Here it is…

It uses the new Butterfly Basics Photopolymer Stamp Set and Butterfly Thinlits. I love the elements in the set and I can see that it will become a favorite! Be sure to come back tomorrow to see the whole card! Now on to toady’s post. It’s Wednesday and that means that I’m over on the Paper Craft Crew blog for this week’s sketch challenge…

This was one of those times that I knew exactly what I was going to use! The base of the card is Basic Black Card Stock. For the background I embossed a piece of Real Red with the Modern Mosaic Textured Impressions Embossing Folder for the top and the bottom is a piece of paper from the Flashback Designer Series Paper Pack. I adhered a piece of Lost Lagoon 3/8″ Stitched Satin Ribbon across the middle to hide the seam and then adhered the background to the card with SNAIL. My greeting is from the From My Heart Stamp Set and is stamped in Memento Tuxedo Black and cut out with the Labels Collection Framelits. I adhered two flagged pieces, one Basic Black and the other Lost Lagoon behind it and adhered it to the card with Stampin’ Dimensionals. The 2 is from the Postage Due Stamp Set and is stamped in Lost Lagoon and punched out with the Postage Stamp Punch. To complete the card I adhered one of the small Silver Basic Metal Buttons with a glue dot. A little bit of an unexpected color combo but I think it works pretty well! Mojo Monday 375

Mondays still aren’t my favorite day of the week. And to make it a true Monday, it was absolutely freezing here yesterday. As an added bonus, we’re supposed to have a Noreaster today with high winds and heavy rain. That will make for a fun commute to work this morning. Heather told me that my headlight was out on Thursday and I finally remembered to change it last night, in the freezing cold. Sometimes I am not the smartest person in the world, but I guess it was better than waiting for today’s rain. Luckily, Andrew came by and got to stand outside and freeze with me. The rest of the evening was pretty uneventful. How was your Monday?

Before we get to today’s post here are the Weekly Deals from Stampin’ Up!

My little bit of craftiness last night yielded today’s card which is for this week’s Mojo Monday sketch challenge…

The only thing that I knew when I started the card was I that I wanted to use the circular wooden frame. Today’s card base is Crumb Cake Card Stock and for my panel on the left I embossed a piece of Soft Suede with the Woodgrain Textured Impressions Embossing Folder. For the little scene I used the White Christmas Photopolymer Stamp Set. The trees are stamped in Soft Suede and the bird and snowman in Memento Tuxedo Black. I used the Cherry Cobbler Stampin’ Blendabilities Markers to color in the snowman’s scarf and hat as well as the bird. The panel is a piece of Cherry Cobbler with the greeting from the “Vintage” Contempo Christmas Stamp Set heat embossed in Gold Stampin’ Emboss Powder. I used the Circles Collection Framelits to cut out the hole in the Cherry Cobbler and also a piece of Gold Foil Sheet which I backed it with. The panel is mounted to the card with Stampin’ Dimensionals. Now, for the circular wooden frame which is from the Dear Heart Photopolymer Stamp Set. It is stamped in Soft Suede on Crumb Cake and after a little fiddling I figured out that you can punch it out with the 2″ Circle Punch and then use one of the Circles Collection Framelits to cut out the middle! I really do like the way the little scene is framed. See what I did there? LOL! I hope that you enjoyed my card for this week’s Mojo Monday sketch challenge. Yesterday was a rainy day, and yes, I stayed in bed way too late! I did go over to Heather’s for a late breakfast that was quite yummy! Scrambled eggs, bacon and an english muffin. We ran to Target to pick up some necessities and I found two new props for my pictures! After I came home and hid in the Stampin’ Galley for most of the rest of the day. It was a good day to craft. I squeezed in some TV, I watched the Grammy Christmas special from the other day. Sam sang Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas, you can buy the song on iTunes, I of course think it’s the best version of the song I have ever heard! LOL! I may be a bit partial though! Go and give a listen and let me know what you think! This morning another late morning, I guess that we do need them every once in a while, but I should be good now! 🙂

One of the cards that I made yesterday is for this week’ Pals Paper Arts color challenge…

I wanted a simple Christmas card but not overly Christmas. The base of the card is Cherry Cobbler Card Stock and the background is a piece of Very Vanilla that I embossed with the Northern Flurry Textured Impressions Embossing Folder. To create my tag I punched a piece of Vellum Card Stock with the Scallop Tag Topper punch and used the Project Life Corner Rounder on the bottom corners. My feathers are from the Four Feathers Stamp Set and are heat embossed in Cherry Cobbler Stampin’ Emboss Powder on Baked Brown Sugar and cut out with the Feathers Framelits. I adhered them to the tag with SNAIL. The greeting is form the Endless Wished Photopolymer Stamp Set and is heat embossed in Cherry Cobbler Stampin’ Emboss Powder. I threaded some Cherry Cobbler Baker’s Twine through a Gold Basic Metal Button and adhered it on top of the bottom of the feathers with Glue Dots. Some more baker’s twine is threaded through the top of the tag and the tag is then adhered to the card with SNAIL. I used some Crystal Effects to adhere the baker’s twine to the background. It has the Christmas feel without any traditional elements. I hope that you like my card for this week’s Pals Paper Arts color challenge. Fab Friday 56

I do love a Friday don’t I?! Nothing special about work yesterday, it was just work. I came home and got to see little Daniel. His bump on his head is healing nicely. Still running all over the place with abandon, still as cute as can be! My friend Heather deemed last night wine night so I went over to her house and had some Layer Cake Malbec, delicious. We watched The Perks of Being a Wallflower and discussed life. Always a good way to spend an evening. Tonight I have my friend Danielle’s mum’s 50th Birthday party, I am being picked up so that will definitely be a good time! 🙂

This Friday is a Fab Friday and this time around we have an interesting color combo…

As promised I used the new set that we got at the Occasions Catalog reveal to make a fun and simple shaker card. My card base is a piece of Crumb Cake Card Stock. I used the Stitched Rectangles Dies to make the shaker by cutting a piece of Whisper White for the base, some Old Olive for the frame and a piece of Window Sheet. Some Bermuda Bay, Coastal Cabana and Cherry Cobbler is punched out with the Confetti Stars Border Punch to fill the shaker along with some 2013-2014 In-Color Sequins. The tag in the middle is from the One Tag Fits All Stamp Set* and is stamped in Cherry Cobbler and Bermuda Bay. I used the Note Tag Punch to punch it out and the 1/8″ Circle Punch to make a hole for my Cherry Cobbler Baker’s Twine to go through. I stamped the gem on Vellum with Versa-Mark and heat embossed it in with White Stampin’ Emboss Powder. The back side is colored with my Coastal Cabana Stampin’ Blendabilities Markers and then I cut it out with my Paper Snips. Some very tiny slivers of Stampin’ Dimensionals adhere it to the tag. A fun simple shaker card to let someone know how much you appreciate them! Paper Craft Crew 121

Mid-week already, not too bad! Work was pretty good yesterday, too. There was an errand involved and we know how much I love that. After work, I came home and retrieved the dog, then ran out to get some pizza so Andrew and I could have dinner before we went to the movies. We picked up Brian and headed to Broadway Mall to see The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1. Andrew had mentioned that they had redone the theater recently, but I hadn’t been there since the renovation. I don’t think I’ll be able to go to another theater ever again because this one was just so great.

Big, comfortable, and they recline! It’s just like being in your living room! The movie was good. It stayed pretty true to the book, except…SPOILER ALERT…they included the entire rescue scene. That’s not a bad thing, because they executed it well. So yes, I would recommend going to see it. If you do, though, don’t take Andrew with you. He doesn’t like cliffhangers and was not very happy at the end of the movie considering it was part 1, even though he knew what to expect. 😉

If it’s Wednesday, we know that means that I’m over on the Paper Craft Crew blog for this week’s sketch challenge…

I stayed very true to the sketch, but had a lot of fun with the card. My base for today’s card is Basic Black Card Stock. For my background I used a piece of Daffodil Delight and randomly heat embossed the stars from the Be The Star Stamp Set in Silver Stampin’ Emboss Powder. I cut out a piece of Whisper White with the Labels Collection Framelits and used my homemade sunburst stencil to sponge on some Daffodil Delight. The greeting and @ sign are from the #hello Stamp Set. Both are heat embossed with White Stampin’ Emboss Powder on Basic Black. The @ sign is punched out with the 2″ Circle Punch and adhered to the card with Stampin’ Dimensionals along with the #missyoumore. Tucked under the #missyoumore is a strip of Silver Glimmer Paper. Three stars from the Pictogram Punches Stamp Set are heat embossed in Silver Stampin’ Emboss Powder on Basic Black and punched out with the Itty Bitty Accents Punch Pack. They too are adhered with Stampin’ Dimensionals. A few random rhinestones in the top left and bottom right finish off the card. I don’t know what it is, but I really like this card. Fun, basic colors with a little sparkle and shine! I hope you enjoyed my Design Team card for this week’s Paper Craft Crew sketch challenge.
