Fab Friday 50

A very happy Friday to you all! And a happy birthday to me! LOL! When I arrived home from work yesterday, there was a very nice little surprise waiting for me. I got some happy mail, all the way from my friend Carolyn in Australia! She sent me a lovely birthday card and some very delicious Tim-Tams.

Carolyn Birthday Card-WM

Isn’t that a cool card?! She really does make the neatest easel cards. And how appropriate is that mustache? LOL! I was also lucky enough to get my hands on the new iOS 8 software for the iPhone and iPad. I did mine in the morning and Andrew stopped by last night and did his. There are a few new features that are quite neat, like the ability to respond to a text message without leaving the app that you’re in. Siri is also vastly improved and if you have a 5S and your phone is plugged in, you can just say, “Hey Siri”, and she’s ready to go. Pretty cool stuff! My brother just happened to be on his way back from Chicago yesterday and took this very cool picture of the 9/11 Memorial as he was coming into New York and I just had to share it with you.

SouthwestJDK 9-11-2014

You can really see the lights from the memorial and I think the wing in the picture is pretty neat. Pretty strange to think that it’s been 13 years since that tragic day. And I can still tell you exactly what I was doing that entire day. Some things you just never forget.

Now on to happier things, like my card for the Fab Friday challenge. This time around it’s a color challenge…

Fab Fri 50 9-12-2014

Funnily enough, I actually did the card for the next Fab Friday challenge and had to quickly make this one last night. Sometimes my lack of sleep works against me. LOL! I have really been enjoying the Kraft Card Stock, so yes, you will be seeing a lot of that for the next few cards, and the heat embossing continues. The base for my card today is Whisper White Card Stock and I adhered a piece of Kraft to cover the entire front. On top of that is a piece of the Gold Fancy Foil Designer Vellum leaving a little bit of the Kraft peeking out the left side. All of the stamps that I used on this card are from the Garden Party Stamp Set. My tag is a piece is a piece of Pool Party and I used the Scalloped Tag Topper Punch and the Project Life Corner Rounder to round the bottom corners. The greeting is heat embossed in Calypso Coral Stampin’ Emboss Powder along with the small flowers and they are cut out with my Paper Snips. The larger flowers are heat embossed in Gold Stampin’ Emboss Powder and again, cut out with Paper Snips. Stampin’ Dimensionals adhere them to the tag and a piece of Gold 5/8″ Satin Ribbon is threaded through the top of the tag and a piece of Gold Baker’s Twine is tied around it. To finish off the card, I put two strips of the Beach House Washi Tape on a diagonal in the upper right hand corner. Again, loving the Kraft Card Stock and I like the way the gold looks with the Pool Party and Calypso Coral. And there you have the correct card for the Fab Friday color challenge this time around. Take a few minutes to visit the blog and see what the other designers have come up with. And if you have a minute, make a card and upload it to the gallery so we can see your take on the color challenge. I hope that you enjoyed today’s post. Variety is the spice of life! Thanks so much for coming by, and make sure you enjoy your Friday! ๐Ÿ™‚

The picture of the 9/11 Memorial is beautiful. I know that I will never forget one moment of that day and the days that followed. It forever changed our lives. But it didn’t only strike fear into is, I think it made us all begin to appreciate our loved ones a little more and made us come together in a way that we haven’t in a long time.

  8. Happy Birthday to you Justin! I hope you celebrate the entire weekend. I know you have lots of friends and family that will want to celebrate with you.
This card is so fun, all the layers and putting the fancy gold dotted vellum up against the craft paper really works. The touch of washi tape in the upper corner really balances everything out. I am totally casing this card!
I experimented with vellum embossing using the kinda ecclectic stamp set yesterday. I love that set and it was really fun. I embossed in white and colored behind the paper with sponge daubers, really turned out nice.
    Now go out and celebrate!!!
