Oh yes! It’s Friday! You know how I feel about that! LOL! It was another nice day, sunny and cool, only in the low 80’s. As far as work goes I spoke too soon, it was a little nutty yesterday. I got to do things that aren’t really my responsibility again. I help out whenever I can and that gets me where?! What can you do?! Last night Andrew came by and we did some more apartment stuff and then took a run to IKEA. I have to say that I’m little disappointed in the lighting choices of late. I’m all for the environment but the LED lights are not quite as bright as the old bulbs and they are quite pricey. I ended up not getting anything but Andrew did have some hot dogs for dinner. Two hot dogs, a soda and chips for $2.50! You can’t beat that! The rest of the evening was just spent sitting outside and talking. Sometimes the simple things make life wonderful!
And this Friday is made even better because it’s a Fab Friday! This week we have a really neat, simple sketch…
I have to admit I had a lot of fun making this card. The card begins with a base of Smoky Slate Card Stock. For the background I took a piece of Night of Navy Card Stock and used the Circles Collection Framelits to cut out a circle in the lower right portion of the card. I then used the Hearts and Stars Decorative Mask and some Embossing Paste to create the stars on the background. After it dried, I adhered it to the base. The clouds are made using the Word Bubbles Framelits and some Whisper White and are adhered to the card with Stampin’ Dimensionals. My large star is a piece of Dazzling Diamonds Glimmer Paper cut out with the Stars Framelits. For the greeting I used the Alphabet Rotary Stamp to create my own greeting in Memento Tuxedo Black. I flagged the ends and adhered it and the star with some more Stampin’ Dimensionals. I think it’s neat the way that the cut out circle appears as if it’s in front of the background. And to me, it looks like the moon! That’s my Fab Friday Design Team card for this week’s sketch challenge! Take a minute to go over and visit the blog to see what my fellow designers have made and don’t forget to enter your card in the gallery so we can see what you do with the sketch! I hope you enjoyed the card and thanks so much for stopping by today! 🙂

How fun! This card makes me smile! I agree with you about the lights! My craft room needs something bad! It has one tiny light fixture on a higher than normal ceiling. I rely on task lighting while stamping. I keep admiring Ikea’s paper lanterns. I know it won’t add more light but a cluster hanging down would look nicer than the one “boob” light fixture! Have a fun weekend!
Yeah! thank you Christina! I really do need something for the craft room. I was thinking about a strip light but I don’t really want fluorescent. I have a task light but it’s in the way. LOL! I love that you referred to the ceiling fixture as a boob! I have one of those in the kitchen! LOL! You enjoy your weekend too! 🙂
I do enjoy sitting outside taking in all the summer sounds and star gazing. What a super cute card. Too bad you didn’t find what you were looking for at Ikea. At least Andrew got his super duper hotdog combo meal deal. Enjoy your time in the city this weekend. I got my preorder in this morning. Woo Hoo!
Yes Lisa, it really is nice to sit and be every once in a while! Thank you! I will keep looking until I come across exactly what I’m looking for. Yes, Andrew enjoyed his cheap dinner! I will have a great time tomorrow! I got the rest of my Pre-Order in this morning too! 🙂
I love this card. I have not seen many cards using the decorative mask and you have inspired me once again.
One note about the LED lights- they have come a long way with brightness – there are new ones out there which offer a daylight brightness. These are fantastic in my kitchen, it takes them about a minute to get to their bright level but they do get quite bright. These bulbs last a really long time and really help our environment.
Have a wonderful weekend Justin.
Thank you very much Marty! I really like the masks, they are a fun new tool for us!
The LED lights have come a long way but they are still not up to incandescents. I will have to look for the ones that you are referring to. They sound like the perfect solution! I have some halogens that I could put in there but they get too hot and that would make the Stampin’ Galley an oven! LOL! Cooked Just would be no good!
You enjoy your weekend too! 🙂
Happy Friday Justin! Great card! It also looks like the moon to me. I have to admit that I’ve totally missed that rotary stamp…need to check that out. You know I still haven’t received my hard copy of the catalog…ugh. Maybe today since it’s pre-order day! I’ve been literally running to the mailbox every day! 😉 I think our mailman thinks I have a thing for him. 😉 Glad you got to spend some time with Andrew. We’ve had some nice evenings here too. It’s nice to sit outside when we have nights like that. Have fun in the city tomorrow…hope you have pics for us! 😉 Have a great day!
Happy Friday Karen!
Thank you! Yes, it’s definitely the moon! I remember seeing the Rotary stamp and thinking I don’t if I’ll ever use that, well guess what?! I can’t believe that you still don;t have your catalog, I did just get mine yesterday but I have one since Convention. Time with Andrew is always great! It was really nice to just sit there outside, it was a perfect night. I will have pics for you, no worries! I hoe you had a good day and nice evening! 🙂
Hi Justin! Really cool card! I just bought some embossing paste but haven’t tried it yet. I love all the stars. Have a great weekend!!
Hello Gerri!
Thank you! You need to give the Embossing Paste a try, it’s fun! You have a great weekend too! 🙂
Love this card, Justin. Reminds me of our monsoon season nights!
Thank you Wendie! It’s definitely a starry night sky! 🙂
Hi Justin:
I have an Ott light and they are available at any Michael’s, A.C. Moore or JoAnn’s Fabric & Craft Stores. They come in all different sizes and they are fantastic. If you have for example 3 kinds of dark blue, you put them under your Ott light and you can clearly see the difference. They are referred to as daylight lights in the quilting community. In addition, the stores mentioned above often have a 40% coupon or 50% off sale on them. Have your daughter let you know when they go on sale. Believe me, it’s money well spent. AND you can get them free standing, desk sizes (about 6 different desk sizes) and as small as reading lamps. I don’t know what I would do without mine!
Today’s card is just absolutely fabulous. The cut circle definitely looks like the moon in relation to the paste stars and clouds. How fun to have the clouds mounted with the dimensionals. Of course I need not even tell you that the glimmer star is the piece de resistance (say with a french accent LOL)! Your take on this particular sketch was right on.
Glad you got to spend some time with Andrew. Tell him he’s overdue with a new card to share with us. What part of Manhattan are you off to? Enjoy a Fabulous Friday and a Sensational Saturday!
Hello Grace!
I am really going to have to look into the Ott Lights, I know they sell them at Michael’s and I get the extra discount. I’ll see if I can go on Sunday. I’ll let you know what I do!
Thank you so much! I always think of you whenever I use something sparkly! I thought the sketch was fun, a lot of room for interpretation!
I always love to spend time with my bestie! I will let him know about the card, but he usually reads the comments! I will uptown and midtown tomorrow. I had a nice Friday and I hope that you did too! 🙂
Hello Justin.
Like you I am not (always) liking the new choices for lights. The ones from Ikea do get so hot it not only warms up a small space but you can almost burn yourself on them (been there, done that) Like Grace I have the OTT lamps. I actually have 3 of them! One is battery operated and I can take it to class (Copic coloring) in my bag or to crops. They are wonderful. And yes I bought them at Michael’s, either on a great sale or with a 50% off coupon. That’s the only way….
I love everything about your card! What a beautiful starry night! And those clouds, clever. Great sentiment too.
Have a fabulous day in Manhattan. We are off to the Kawarthas Lakes for this long weekend here in Ontario. Hopefully the weather will cooperate; if not there are always board games to play with our friends. Have yourself a great weekend.
Hi Louise!
I really think that they need to come out with some better more affordable options in lighting. Yes, the halogen ones from IKEA turn any room into an easy bake oven! LOL! I am going to look at the Ott lights!!
Thank you! I like the colors and the stars are my favorite part! I’m glad that I had the Alphabet Rotary Stamp too!
Thanks! I will see how many pics I can take! I hope that you enjoy your weekend too! Sounds like a lot of fun! It’s is supposed to be rainy here so I hope that your weather is better! 🙂
Hi Justin, I really like your take on this sketch…it is so imaginative. Sorry Ikea let you down in the light department. I agree that I would rather have the old fashioned light bulbs. I also have 2 OTT lights which really make all the difference. Have a good evening!
Hello Roseanne!
Thank you very much! I loved the sketch, so many possibilities! I have always had good luck at IKEA before, I was a little bummed. I really don’t like the new bulbs at all. I’m definitely going to check out the Ott lamps! Thanks! You have a nice evening too! 🙂
Nothing beats sitting outside on a summer evening. This card s perfect for that. I ordered my hearts/stars masks today, I can’t wait!!!
I completely agree with you Linda! Thank you! You are going to have so much fun! 🙂
Fun starry night card! TFS!
Thank you Amanda! 🙂
Cool card!! Love the clouds and stars!!
Thank you Brenda! 🙂
