Paper Players 211 & The Creative Blog Hop!

Hello peeps! It’s so nice to have off on Monday isn’t it?! I am thoroughly enjoying my weekend and hope that you are too. I went into Manhattan last night for some dinner at my friends Bev and Jason’s apartment. They are the people that my friend Kim watches the dogs for when they go away for the weekend. Always a good time but a late night! Andrew retrieved me from the train station and brought me home. Such a good guy. Today I have been asked to be part of a fun little blog hop called the Creative Blog Hop. I’m honored that my friend Sandy Mathis has tagged me to participate! You may have heard about it already, but if not, it is a venue for crafters of all kinds to talk about ourselves a bit and hopefully make a few new friends along the way. Sandy has a great blog called Stamp with Sandy. She posts regularly and is quite the talented stamper and a very good friend! You can see her post for the Creative Blog Tour here and then make sure and take a look at the rest of her posts!

The hop asks us to answer four questions about ourselves so here goes!

What am I working on now?

I’m always working on lots of things at the same time! I have my weekly Design Team commitments, Blog Tours and regular posts. I’m actually starting to get interested in Mixed Media and got some supplies on Saturday so I’m going to give that a try. What doesn’t kill us makes us more creative right?!?!

How does my work differ from others?

I think that we all have a certain style of card making that we love, mine is collage. I love to see how I can get different elements to work together and look cohesive. I also enjoy lots of other styles and try to be as varied in my projects as I can. We have to keep it interesting not only for our wonderful readers but for ourselves too!

Why do I create what I do?

I started making cards as a creative outlet. I think that paper crafting is a great way to express yourself and it helps me relax. My creativity has turned into a loyal following of blog readers that I have gotten to know over the past few years and now can call them friends. So I guess the best reason that I can think of why I do what I do is to stay connected to my peeps!

How does my creative process work?

I spend a lot of time looking on Pinterest and SplitCoast. I get inspiration form the world around me too. I can be walking down the street in Manhattan and see a sign or building and that can inspire me with colors or shapes. I also am lucky in that I have a photographic memory., I can sometimes put a card together on the train on the way home or while I’m sitting at my desk at work all in my head.

Now, I am honored to get to tag two of my favorite paper crafters in the Creative Blog Hop!

Carolyn

Hi, my name is Carolyn. I’m Mother of 2 gorgeous girls and I’ve been married for 29 years. I have a passion for paper. I started Scrapbooking in 2001 and Cardmaking followed in 2002 and quickly took over. I’ve been teaching ever since. I joined Stampin Up in May 2009 and absolutely love the products and the friendships I’m making.

Carolyn and I have become good friends even though she lives on the other side of the world! We often FaceTime and I have even been lucky enough to have received some TimTams in the mail! Love my little Aussie!

So now next Monday Wendy and Carolyn will select some more people to introduce you to so make sure that you check in with them next week!

Now on to our regularly scheduled programming! Even though it doesn’t feel like Monday it is! That’s a good thing! So if it’s Monday that means it’s time for the Paper Players challenge. This week it’s a Tic-Tac-Toe challenge from Nance…

Paper Players #211

I went with the first row down. Sometimes you just need a bright, cheerful birthday card so that what I did. The base of the card is Daffodil Delight Card Stock, I rounded the corners on it and the next layer of Pumpkin Pie with the Project Life Corner Rounder. On top of the Pumpkin Pie I have a piece of Sweet Taffy Designer Series Paper that I cut out with the Project Life Card and Labels Framelits. I ran it through the Big Shot again using the Circles Collection Framelits to cut out the notch on the left side. My cupcake is from the Cupcake Party Stamp Set and is stamped in Daffodil Delight and Melon Mambo and punched out with the Cupcake Builder Punch. I mounted it to a piece of Tempting Turquoise that I punched out with the 1 3/4″ Circle Punch. It’s tucked into the notch and adhered to the card with Stampin’ Dimensionals. The greeting is from the same set and is stamped in Rich Razzleberry and I again used the Project Life Cards and Labels Framelits to cut it out, Stampin’ Dimensionals hold it in place too. I felt it needed a little something more so I used my Rich Razzleberry and Melon Mambo Stampin’ Blendabilities Markers to color some Basic Jewels Pearls. I put some tiny ones on the cupcake and then “scattered” some around the card. Like I said, bright , cheery and simple, a great card to liven up someones birthday, don’t you think?! I hope that you enjoyed my Creative Blog Hop post and Paper Players card for today! I’m very lucky to have you all come by and visit with me, I appreciate it and it makes my days much better! Thank you and enjoy your Monday! 🙂

  1. Happy Holiday Monday! Nice little tidbits about you and your friends.
Love your bright and cheery card. Just got that punch on a recent Weekly Deals… Nice sample for me to give it a try! Have fun on this extended weekend.

    1. A happy Holiday Monday to you too Louise! My friends are just the best, as you know! I love the little notch out of the DSP! I have had a great weekend and hope that you have too! 🙂

  2. Nice sunshine card for a Monday morning! I may case this card for a women’s group at my church. Thank you!

  3. Good Monday Morning Justin:

So nice of you to introduce Carolyn & Wendy to us! They sound like lovely ladies and passionate stampers. I have found that the paper crafting world is very much like the quilting world in that there are so many talented, wonderful people who want to share their love of their craft. I cannot remember what it was like before the internet enabled us to be blessed with the ability to make friends from around the world without ever leaving our homes. How lucky we are to be living in this age of technology.

Quite the bright and happy card today. As I was looking at the Tic-Tac-Toe challenge board I chose the first row down and was kind of surprised that you picked the same. I love the carnival look of this card. Bright colors, cupcakes and happy wishes – what more could you possibly want from a birthday card.

Enjoy your day off my friend. 3 day weekends are one of life’s little pleasures! 🙂

    1. Hello Grace!
Carolyn and Wendy are wonderful people and quite talented! I think the Creative Blog Hop is a fun idea! I also can’t imagine what we did before the internet! I am so happy that I have friends from all over the world! Technology certainly does make the world a smaller place, in a good way!
Yes, the card is quite bright and happy, that Sweet Taffy DSP makes me do it! LOL! I looked at the board for while and there was the urge to do the whole thing! I settled on the first row because I can always use an extra birthday card!
I had a nice day off and I hope that you had a nice Monday! Three day weekends are indeed on of life’s pleasures! We need more of them! 🙂

  4. Hello Justin and happy day off! Enjoy it, you sure deserve it! I love your card! So cheerful, bright and happy. Who wouldn’t love to receive this one? Love the way you cut out the circle with your framelits, I definitely need to do this. And those little pearls? So cute! Have a fabulous day!

    1. Hello Karen!
I was very happy to have today off! It was a relaxing sort of laid back day, just what I needed! I love the “notch” too, I’ll have to see what other shapes I can do that with! The pearls just finished the card nicely, it needed a little something and they were it! I hope that you enjoyed your day my friend! 🙂

  5. What a fun card ! Enjoyed your introductions and I think that Tic Tac Toe idea is so neat in
choosing what you want to use !
Also glad to see you use the Project Life Framelits . I have debated about getting those to use for cards .
    Have a fun day !

    1. Thanks very much Sonny! The ladies are great and I hope that you will check them out. The Tic-Tac-Toe challenge is one of my favorites, choice is nice! I love the Project Life Framelits. I don’t scrapbook but I can use the products to make cards so it’s great! I had a very nice day and hope that you did too! 🙂

  6. Cute card …great colors ! I like the Tic Tac Toe options …such fun !
    Thanks for your introductions !
    Have a fun day 1

  7. Bright and cheery indeed. I love the way you used the circle framelets to frame the cupcake. Looks almost good enough to eat. Happy Labor Day Justin.

    1. Thanks so much Marty! I like the notch, I’ll do that again! Who doesn’t love a cupcake, although I prefer the one from the ATM!! Happy Labor Day to you too!! 🙂

  8. Happy (non) Labor Day! It’s so nice to tune in to brightness. I always like the tic tac toe boards. I have been following Wendy’s blog for a long time, but I don’t know Carolyn. Thanks for introducing them. Fun!
    I have two questions…
First, how does the Project Life Corner Rounder differ from the 3/16″ one?
Second, Mr. Sequin, does it matter if the sequins go up or down? I have to really manipulate a ball out of a glue dot to attach a sequin down. What am I doing wrong?
I look forward to your replies. Thank you very much!
I cooked up a storm over the last two days, so I can relax with leftover meatballs and baked penne, cole slaw, eggplant parmesan, and grilled franks and Oktoberfest brats. Come for dinner! Enjoy your day and the 4-day week! Nancy B

    1. LOL! Yes, it was a non-Labor day indeed Nancy! I’m happy to introduce new people, love Wendy and Carolyn and I have become quite close even though she is a long way away. I call her my friend from the future!
The new corner rounder is just slightly different in that it matches the corners on the Project Life stuff exactly. In Mr. Sequins opinion the should go up, the cup should be able to be filled! You must be putting them down, that’s why you need so much glue! 🙂
I would love nothing more than to come for dinner, that all sounds delicious!! One day there will be a knock! My 4 day week will be great, I will make it so! 🙂

  9. Love reading your CBH post, Justin! Always fun to see your projects too and this one is great. Love the bright colors and the way you’ve used the negative space from the circle. Thank you for joining us at The Paper Players!

  10. I just love Mondays when they are no work days. Interesting Bio, I too like mixed media, cant wait to see your creations. Awesome card, love the bright colors

    1. Oh, mee to Linda! They turn into Sundays! LOL! I started my mixed media project tonight, lots more to do before I can post it! Glad you enjoyed the card, thank you! I hope your day was a good one! 🙂

  11. I just love when you come up with something new that makes me say “I have to try that!”. Today it is the circle cut to the edge of the dsp layer. I think it just makes it a little more artsy fartsy and I love it.

  12. Justin, I thank you for your kind words and also for being tagged in this hop! Oh and thanks for the trip to the scrapbook store too; as always you inspire me to spend money, LOL! Seriously, you are a wonderful friend and inspiration to me always. I’m so happy to have you in my family.

Almost forgot to comment on your fab cupcake card! Love the bright and happy rainbow of colors and the colored pearls. Look kind of like enamel dots (wink, wink)!

    (((hugs)))

    1. Thank you for tagging me Sandy! I only speak the truth! Love you loads!! LOL! I like when we spend money together on crafty things! And I am very happy to have you in my life! You also are an inspiration to me and a funny, beautiful, amazing person!
