Mondays still aren’t my favorite day of the week. And to make it a true Monday, it was absolutely freezing here yesterday. As an added bonus, we’re supposed to have a Noreaster today with high winds and heavy rain. That will make for a fun commute to work this morning. Heather told me that my headlight was out on Thursday and I finally remembered to change it last night, in the freezing cold. Sometimes I am not the smartest person in the world, but I guess it was better than waiting for today’s rain. Luckily, Andrew came by and got to stand outside and freeze with me. The rest of the evening was pretty uneventful. How was your Monday?
Before we get to today’s post here are the Weekly Deals from Stampin’ Up!
My little bit of craftiness last night yielded today’s card which is for this week’s Mojo Monday sketch challenge…
The only thing that I knew when I started the card was I that I wanted to use the circular wooden frame. Today’s card base is Crumb Cake Card Stock and for my panel on the left I embossed a piece of Soft Suede with the Woodgrain Textured Impressions Embossing Folder. For the little scene I used the White Christmas Photopolymer Stamp Set. The trees are stamped in Soft Suede and the bird and snowman in Memento Tuxedo Black. I used the Cherry Cobbler Stampin’ Blendabilities Markers to color in the snowman’s scarf and hat as well as the bird. The panel is a piece of Cherry Cobbler with the greeting from the “Vintage” Contempo Christmas Stamp Set heat embossed in Gold Stampin’ Emboss Powder. I used the Circles Collection Framelits to cut out the hole in the Cherry Cobbler and also a piece of Gold Foil Sheet which I backed it with. The panel is mounted to the card with Stampin’ Dimensionals. Now, for the circular wooden frame which is from the Dear Heart Photopolymer Stamp Set. It is stamped in Soft Suede on Crumb Cake and after a little fiddling I figured out that you can punch it out with the 2″ Circle Punch and then use one of the Circles Collection Framelits to cut out the middle! I really do like the way the little scene is framed. See what I did there? LOL! I hope that you enjoyed my card for this week’s Mojo Monday sketch challenge. Thanks so much for stopping by, and I hope your weather is a lot better than ours. Have a great day! 🙂

Justin, I LOVE this card!! The wood-framed snowman is awesome! I love the feel of this card. Just the right touch of gold. You are the best!!
Thank you Gerri! I finally got to use the wood frame, which is the only reason that I bought that set! LOL! You are pretty awesome yourself my friend! 🙂
Love the framed snowman! So cute! It’s funny the images we find when we take a closer look at our stamps! Good that you got that headlight changed, even in freezing cold weather! Good luck with your storm today. Those are no fun at all.
Thanks so much Melanie! I love that wood frame! It was definitely better to change the headlight Monday night, we had rain all day yesterday! The storm could have been worse! 🙂
How precious! that snowman wins my heart every time but your framed circle is the best! You are so creative! each card is an original–unlike mine where I have to adapt what someone else did! will be CASing this! stay warm.
Thank you Susan! I love snowmen but that frame is really neat! CASEing but not copying exactly makes your card an original! Plus they are handmade so very card is an original! 🙂
Hi Justin
Love love love this card! That frame with the snowman and bird is really adorable- I think all the elements of the card work beautifully together- another one to CASE!
I saw the weather headed your way last night on the news. So sorry about what the day might bring…glad you have two good headlights to see your way!
Hello Marty,
Thank you very much! That White Christmas Stamp Set has some great images but the frame is my fave from Dear Heart!
The weather could have been much worse, it’s to be rainy and then the dreaded snow later on today. Yes, two headlights is always a good thing! 🙂
So cute! Love the snowman peeking out of the window and the gold embossed sentiment. Great take on the sketch!
Thank you Sandy! I hope that you are having a good week! 🙂
Love the circle frame! I was expecting a snowy shaker card! It would be conducive to adding glitter or something soft for snow. I really like the way the sentiment shines out. My husband put the rest of my summer clothes bags in the top shelves of the closet this morning, so now I have to attack the pile in the corner, and start on my holiday cards, get the guest room cleaned up, and a million other jobs…Stay warm and dry! Nancy B
LOL! Thank you Nancy! Do you know ho hard it was for me not to make that a shaker card?!?! It was perfect for it! LOL! I too have to start on my Holiday cards! Now with the Pre-Order goodies it will be difficult as I want to play with that stuff now! Good luck with your projects! You stay warm and dry too! 🙂
P. S. Hi Andrew! When are you going to make a holiday card for us? Love you! Nancy B
I will tell Andrew that people are requesting cards again. He needs to make some cards anyway I’m sure! 🙂
Elegant and classy! I love it
Thank you Charlen! 🙂
Oh my goodness! I love this card. The wood circle frame around the scene is so cool. I love the layout, the colors and the images. You did it again!!!! Amazing. Happy Tuesday.
Thanks very much Lisa! I hope that you had a nice Tuesday! 🙂
This is absolutely adorable Justin! Love love it!. So very clever of you to do this fun frame, looks like a porthole! Definitely a CASE, maybe with different shapes of course.
Glad you got your headlight changed, both for your sake and others on the road. Hopefully that storm won’t be too too bad. I am home “sick” with some sort of cold or flu, probably a little wee bit due to the furnace being out for a couple of days last week, and the stress of the job situation, etc. But bonus is I am staying home and catching up on emails, postings, reading, etc. the ‘easy stuff’ in between sleeping. Cheers.
Thanks so much Louise! Yes, it does look like a porthole! Love that frame!
Yes, I needed to do it last week when Heather told me that it was out but time just always gets away from me! I’m sorry that you are not feeling well. Rest up and feel better!! 🙂
Gold Foil and wood EF – what a perfect combo. This is a fabulous card Justin and I love the little scene behind the circle. I had a wonderful, gentle, beautiful Aunt that used to collect plates and as soon as I saw this card I thought of her. She passed on many years ago but I will never forget those plates hanging on her walls. Thanks for bringing back such a great memory. This card is just gorgeous!
You are getting the rain. We are getting the freezing rain and snow. Just thought that might make you feel a wee bit better about this lousy weather! LOL You have yourself a Terrific Tuesday despite the weather. Hugs my friend! 🙂
Why thank you Grace! That White Christmas Set is great for building little scenes! I’m so happy when I can stir a fond memory for you Grace! Brings a smile to my face!
I don’t want to be mean but I would rather not get the snow, we are to have some later. Stay warm and safe my friend! Hugs! 🙂
Hey there Justin! This is sooo cute! Love the snowman popping thru the circle. Just darling! I love everything about this card, the EF, the gold foil, the gold embossing…so pretty! Sounds like nasty weather by you. We have sun today, which helps everything including the freezing temps. I worked on Christmas cards yesterday but still not completely done with those. Lots of errands to run today–the bank, the grocery store and the Post office. Not a lot of fun but it gets me out of the house. 😉 Hope your day is going good and glad you got your headlight fixed. Can you be pulled over and given a ticket for that being out? You can around here! Who want to spend money on those types of things when there are new stamps to be had! Can’t remember if you said you got your pre order in or not? I just did mine this morning…man, I want everything!
Hey Karen!
Yay! Thank you! Yes, we have had some nasty weather but after Sandy nothing seems that bad. Send the sun this way will you?! I hope that you got all of your running around done! I do love to get out of the house myself! Yes, i could have gotten a ticket for the headlight and if anyone would get pulled over for that it would be me! Got my pre-order yesterday and as you can see from today’s post there is a card made already! I want it all too! 🙂
Hi Justin,
Today’s card is so cute and would bring a smile to anyone’s face. This stamp set is my favourite from this years holiday catalogue and it does seem very popular as you can create so many different scenes with it.
Glad you had a bit of a relaxing weekend and hope your tree is decorated now! LOL! I finished putting my Christmhas decorations up today and have already caught one of my cats Snowy, very appropriate, trying to eat the tinsel I’ve put around my craft desk! Oh well!
Take care and keep warm.
Michelle
Hello Michelle!
Thank you! I love when I can bring a smile to your face! I too love the set! The tree is still in progress, always seems to take such a long time. I get easily distracted! LOL! Ahh, the pets do like to have some fun at Christmas too! LOL! You take care too! 🙂
Hey Justin, this card is very cute, I love the little Christmas scene – the snowman looks surprised, lol! Hope your day is better than your weather forecast! It will be 84f here today – with a few clouds. Stay safe on the roads! Cheers, Kelly xx
Hey Kelly!
Thank you! I think the snowman is surprised to see the bird?! That works! LOL! I would rather 84 than a Nor-Easter! Hope you had a good day! 🙂
Hi Justin,
Oh Boy . . . my daughter had surgery and the week went poof!!! I’m just catching up on emails. I just read all your December ones. Your cards are great! I didn’t even start my Christmas cards yet, but I have a great new crocheted blanket for my queen size bed. Have a great evening, say warm and dry!!!
🙂
Hello Nancy!
I hope that your daughter is doing well. I still haven’t started my cards, you are not alone! Your blanket sounds wonderful! It will keep you nice and toasty! 🙂
WOW!!! Love the wooden circular frame, really is the focal point of this card. Gorgeous. OMG winter is not even officially here and I hate it. Drove to work yesterday in freezing ice, got to work in a parking lot covered in ice. Made for a nerve wracking walk into work. I heard about your weather and San Francisco’s weather. Not very pleasant anywhere
Thanks very much Linda! I am with you, I officially hate winter all the time, we don’t have to wait for it to arrive to know that! It’s the most unpleasant time of the year weather wise. Stay safe!! 🙂
How fabulous! Love that bit of wood grain texture and the gold accents set this off masterfully. Thanks for playing along with Mojo Monday!
Thank you so much Julee! Thanks for always having such great sketches!! Enjoy your weekend! 🙂
I *love* the way the little scene is framed, too, Justin! Thanks for sharing that tip. I didn’t have a clue where the round wooden frame came from. Your design elements really work well together. The gold matte around the cherry cobbler really sets off that panel well against the embossed woodgrain panel on the crumb cake card base. Great design . . . again, Justin!
Thank you very much El! I love that wooden circle stamp, it’s the only on that I used out of that set! So glad that you enjoyed the card!! 🙂
