Paper Players 171

Yesterday was extremely windy here and it rained a little too. I did have a nice relaxing day. I puttered around the house in the morning and then met Heather and we did some shopping and had lunch. When I came back home I sat down and completed a few projects and listened to some music. All in all a very nice day. I hope that you enjoyed the pictures of Manhattan yesterday, I’m going to make an effort to included some people, possibly me, in some of the future pictures!

Since it’s Monday that means that it’s time to play along with the Paper Players again! This week we have a fall color challenge from clever Ann…

I was going to go along with the obvious and make a fall card but we all know how I like to go and do something unexpected! The base of my card is Tangerine Tango Card Stock and there is a layer of Crushed Curry on top of that. My background is created using the Filmstrip Stamp and some Crushed Curry, Tangerine Tango and Chocolate Chip ink. With the help of my Stamp-a-ma-jig lining them up was nice and easy. To cut down a little on the boldness of the background I created a frame with the Squares Collection Framelits from some Whisper White and used a piece of Vellum Card Stock as a background for my images. The frame is adhered to the card with Stampin’ Dimensionals. The flowers and bird are from the Morning Medley Host(ess) Stamp Set and are stamped in Crushed Curry and Tangerine Tango for the flowers and the bird in Chocolate Chip. The flowers are punched out with the Pansy Punch and the bird is cut out with my Paper Snips. My greeting is from the Banner Greetings Host(ess) Stamp Set and is stamped in Chocolate Chip and also cut out with my Paper Snips. I stamped the Wish Big on the frame from the A Dozen Thought Stamp Set and a few sequins complete my card. I love the bold background but appreciate the way the vellum softens it so as not to take away from the images. Just Add Ink 190

Yesterday turned out to be a pretty nice day. It was kind of chilly in the morning but it did get a little warmer as the day went on. Andrew and I met my friend Kim and had some Korean food for lunch, then we started to walk downtown and came across a street fair. We ended up at Eataly and had some authentic Italian coffee treats. On the way down, we went past the Empire State Building and my favorite building in Manhattan, the Flat Iron Building.

Now on to today’s post, that is for this week’s Just Add Ink challenge which is to use masking.

The base of the card is Calypso Coral Card Stock. I took a piece of Window Sheet and used the Label Card Thinlits Die embellishments to create my masks. The large arrows are sponged in Calypso Coral, the small ones in Island Indigo. For the ampersand, I sponged it in Calypso Coral, then created the swirl around it, and sponged it again slightly above with Island Indigo to create the shadow effect. I cut the letters out of Island Indigo using the Typeset Alphabets Bigs Dies and adhered them to the card with Stampin’ Dimensional pieces. While it’s not too complex, this card goes beyond the simple greeting. If you notice in the close-up picture of the ampersand, you can see that the swirl behind it is not perfectly circular. Sure, I could’ve used another mask to make it perfectly circular, but I chose not to. The card says “U & ME”, but the blotch goes to show that you and me are not always perfect, and that’s okay. I hope you enjoyed my simple, but sentimental card for today. And of course, I hope you liked the pictures from my trip yesterday! Pals Paper Arts 178

Dinner and a movie was a good time last night. Heather and I had some Chinese food and then we watched The Heat with Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy, it was hysterical! I’m off to Manhattan this morning, hopefully it won’t be too cold, I would like to take a little walk along the river. It’s supposed to be sunny so let’s hope the weather holds up!

Today I have my card for this week’s Pals Paper Arts challenge. This time they have given us some neat colors to work with…

All of the colors are in the Soho Subway DSP so I decided to do a Christmas card with a slightly vintage feel. The base of my card is Summer Starfruit Card Stock and I used the Post Card Stamp, stamped in Early Espresso and backed with a piece of the Soho Subway Designer Series Paper for the background. The greeting is heat embossed in Early Espresso on a Crisp Cantaloupe tag and is from the Christmas Messages Stamp Set. A leftover piece of Vanilla Bakers Twine from a kit make the bow and some Stampin’ Dimensionals adhere it to the card. My three ornaments are from the Christmas Collectibles Stamp Set and are stamped in Early Espresso, Crisp Cantaloupe and Summer Starfruit. I used the Christmas Ornament Punch to punch them out and they too are adhered with Stampin’ Dimensionals. You know how I love a non-traditional Holiday card and this one definitely fits the bill. Freshly Made Sketches 111

Guess what… do you know what day it is?! Yes folks, that’s right, it’s Friday!! We all know that I do loves me some Friday! Yesterday as they promised, it was rainy and cold. Today, just cold. Tonight is Chinese food and movie night with Heather and tomorrow, off to Manhattan with Andrew for some more marathon walking! I’ll have to see if I can take some pictures to post. But to hold you over, here’s one of Andrew’s famous sunset pictures…

Now on to today’s post. My inspiration for today’s card is this week’s Freshly Made Sketches…

I looked at the sketch and sat down at my desk and I saw the card before I made it. The whole card! I don’t think that has ever happened before. The base of my card is Whisper White Card Stock. The strip across the bottom is Gold Foil Sheet and I used the Chevron Border Punch to punch out some Real Red, Tempting Turquoise and Old Olive. The main component, the frame, is a piece of Whisper White Card Stock cut out with the Squares Collection Framelits Dies and I used the Christmas Messages Stamp Set to stamp my greeting on Vellum. I heat embossed it with Gold Stampin’ Emboss Powder and adhered it to the back of the frame. The base is a piece of Whisper White backed with a piece of Gold Foil Sheet and some random sequins from a Target find to create the background for the greeting. To finish it off some Real Red, Tempting Turquoise and Old Olive are punched out with the tree from the Merry Mini’s Punch Pack and adhered with Stampin’ Dimensionals. I really like the pop of turquoise with the red and green and the gold foil gives it a little shine. And like I said yesterday, I really like this card! LOL! Mojo 318

Hey peeps! How’s it going? Things are good on my end. It’s been a quiet week, which is nice for a change. Work was busy but bearable today and the weather was nice. It’s supposed to rain and then get colder over the weekend. Ahh, I long for spring already! I did get to spend some quality time at the craft desk last night and I made a card that I really love! I’ll post it tomorrow and you’ll have to let me know what you think!

My post for today is for this week’s Mojo Monday sketch challenge. This week’s sketch is from the talented Julee Tilman…

I really do always like the Mojo sketches, lots of layers! My card starts off with a base of Cherry Cobbler Card Stock. The background is a piece of Whisper White that I stamped with the Dictionary Background Stamp in Sahara Sand. A strip of Bermuda Bay is flagged on the bottom and embossed using the Stylish Stripes Textured Impressions Embossing Folder. The Pool Party tag is stamped with the Merry Little Christmas Stamp Set in Bermuda Bay and the “little” in Cherry Cobbler and popped up with a Stampin’ Dimensional. A piece of Cherry Cobbler 1/2″ Seam Binding Ribbon is tied in a bow using the “Fork” method and adhered with a Mini Glue Dot. Across the bottom of the tag is some Cherry Cobbler that I cut out with the Tasteful Trim Bigz XL Die. My snowflakes are from the Festive Flurry Stamp Set and are stamped in Pool Party and cut out with the Festive Flurry Framelits Dies. Three red sequins in the top left finish off the card. Paper Craft Crew 66

Today was a kind of mediocre day. I don’t really have anything to tell you because not much went on. The weather was a little bit better today, it wasn’t so cold. I had dinner, came home, did the dishes, Andrew came over and we went to the gym. Like I said, not much went on. Oh wait, there was one good thing that happened yesterday! The new Occasions Catalog was posted on the Demo site yesterday morning and you are going to love it!

It’s Wednesday, so today I have my Design Team card for this week’s Paper Craft Crew Sketch Challenge. This week’s sketch has a fun banner across it…

The base of today’s card is Bermuda Bay Card Stock. For the background I used a piece of paper from the Winter Frost Designer Series Paper Stack. To mix it up a little, I stamped the tree from the Special Season Stamp Set in Smoky Slate on Smoky Slate Card Stock and adhered it in the middle. My banner starts off with a piece of Whisper White Baker’s Twine that is threaded through two Brights Collection Designer Buttons and they are adhered to the card with Mini Glue Dots. The “joy” is from the A Banner Christmas Stamp Set, stamped in Bermuda Bay and cut out with my Paper Snips. The two ornaments are from the Very Merry Tags Stamp Set and they are stamped in Smoky Slate and punched out with the Mosaic Punch. All of my banner pieces are adhered to the card with Stampin’ Dimensionals. I know I’ve used the blues a lot for Christmas cards this year, but I really really like them, and I’m very happy with my little tree in the middle. SUO Challenges 83

As far as Monday’s go yesterday wasn’t too bad. Work was bearable and it was nice and quiet when I got home. It was really cold here but it’s supposed to warm up later in the week. I spoke to a friend last night on the phone, something that I don’t really do as most people just usually text these days. I also got to sit at the craft desk for a while and just play. We all know there is nothing I like more than that! Tomorrow is gym day and I am looking forward to that too!

Today’s post is for the SUO Challenges Design Team. This time around we ask you to use your favorite greeting. I didn’t even have to think about this one, I knew right away just what I would use. The base of today’s card is Cherry Cobbler Card Stock. I used some Brushed Gold Card Stock and the Stylish Stripes Textured Impressions Embossing Folder for the background. The little snowflakes are from the “Vintage” Northern Frost Sizzlit Decorative Strip Die and are cut out from Whisper White. I stamped my greeting using the “Vintage” Heart of Christmas Stamp, heat embossed it with some Cherry Cobbler Stampin’ Emboss Powder and rounded the corners. Behind it is a piece of Cherry Cobbler that I cut out with the Deco Labels Collection Framelits Dies and used the Essential Paper-Piercing Pack and Paper-Piercing Tool to pierce just the top and bottom. A piece of Champagne Glimmer Paper punched out with the 2 1/2″ Circle Punch goes in the middle and Stampin’ Dimensionals hold the pieces to the card. I really do love the Heart of Christmas stamp and was sad to see it go with last year’s Holiday Catalog. I was also happy when I found my Norther Frost Strip Die, I had forgotten that I had it! Catherine & Cathy Create 13 – Triangles

I’m still a little delirious from yesterday, I managed to get a whole four hours of sleep on Thursday night! The conference went pretty well. I convinced them to use an App on the iPads for registration and it worked perfectly. I do love technology! I came home and took a 30 minute nap and I was good for the rest of the evening. This morning is another early morning, I have some errands to run and then I’m finally going to get a much needed haircut. I get to a point where I just can’t take it anymore then I want to hack it all off, we’ll see what happens later.

Today I have a post for the Catherine & Cathy Create blog. Yesterday was the start of our monthly challenge and this time it’s triangles. I immediately thought of Christmas trees, I know genius right! LOL! The base of my card is Smoky Slate Card Stock and the background is a piece of Vellum Card Stock. I used my paper Snips to trim the curves in the Soft Sky that creates the hills. My trees are from the Pennant Parade Stamp Set, an oldie but a goodie. I stamped them in Pear Pizzaz, Always Artichoke and Garden Green and cut them out with my Paper Snips. Some are tucked behind the hills for a little depth. A piece of Gold Foil Sheet is cut out with the Expressions Thinlits Dies and adhered to the vellum with 2-Way Glue. It’s a nice simple card that reminds me of the kind that you get in the boxes of Christmas cards from the store. It would be relatively easy to mass produce too. Oh, the adhesive behind the vellum doesn’t show up quite as much in person as it does in the picture, you’ll have to take my word for it! And here we are at Wednesday again… work, not a lot of fun lately, but I did have a nice evening after I left work. I went over to see my friend Sandy, we had a nice dinner and got to catch up. I don’t see Sandy nearly as much as I’d like to, but we’ll have to remedy that in the future. I came home, met my friend Andrew and went to the gym. All in all, it was a nice way to spend my after work time.

It’s Wednesday, as I have mentioned, and that means it’s time for this week’s Paper Craft Crew challenge. This week we have a simple sketch for you…

The layout of the sketch gives you quite a few possibilities. I decided I needed to use one of my new stamp sets that I got during the 25% off promotion. The base of my card is Whisper White Card Stock. On the bottom half, there is a piece of paper from the Sweater Weather Designer Series Paper Pack. Above that is a piece of paper from the Polka Dot Parade Designer Series Paper Pack and along the bottom is a piece of Real Red that I punched with the Scallop Edge Border Punch. Across the middle is a piece of Very Vanilla 1/4″ Stitched Grosgrain Ribbon. My stamped image/greeting is from the Crazy, Mixed-Up Love Stamp Set and is stamped in Real Red. I used the Circles Collection Framelits to cut it out and backed it with a piece of Chocolate Chip. The hearts are cut out with the Fashionable Hearts Embosslit and adhered to the card with Stampin’ Dimensionals. I decided the card needed a little something more along the bottom, so I cut out a piece of Real Red with the Expressions Thinlits Dies and adhered it with 2-Way Glue. I love when you can use a seasonal Designer Series Paper for something other than it was intended and the Thinlits are by far my favorite product! Paper Players 169

Greetings peeps! How was the rest of your weekend? My Sunday was nice and quiet. I ran to Target in the morning with my friend Heather and then I spent the rest of the day crafting and running errands. I do love Sundays when they are like that. I didn’t have time to put together a video this weekend but I will eventually get to it! I did take another step towards moving my blog to the hosted account. Sometime in the next few weeks, when I have a minute or two, I will complete the transition. LOL! Probably later rather than sooner. I will keep you posted.

It’s Monday so that means it’s Paper Players time! This week we have a fun sketch from the lovely Anne Marie…

I was playing around with the “shimmer spritz” that I made the other day again. I also made a sunburst mask out of a Window Sheet. I thought that would be better because then I can reuse it. The base of my card is Whisper White Card Stock. My main panel is a piece of Whisper White that I spritzed my sunburst on using the mask and I backed it with a piece of Brushed Gold and Bermuda Bay. Next up is my strip of Bermuda Bay that I heat embossed in Gold Stampin’ Emboss Powder using a stamp from the Background Builders Stamp Set. I tucked three Brushed Gold flags that I cut out with the Bitty Banners Framelits under the left side. My ornament is from the Ornament Keepsakes Stamp Set, I heat embossed it with Gold and cut it out with the Holiday Ornaments Framelits. Three “Vintage” Metallic 3/16″ Brads backed with Bermuda Bay are up in the left corner. My greeting is stamped in Bermuda Bay and is from the Endless Wishes Photopolymer Stamp Set. The pictures don’t really show you how nice and shimmery the sunburst is and I really like the gold and Bermuda Bay together. I know, I have been using a lot of gold lately, we all have phases right?!?! Thanks for stopping by to see my card for this week’s Paper Players challenge.
