Yesterday I went into Manhattan for a little while. I actually did a fair amount of walking, about 8 miles altogether and 3 of them in about an hour! Nice way to get some exercise don’t you think?! Some of you have mentioned that you like to see pictures of the city so I took a few on my travels. The first one is the Citibank building on Lexington Ave. Something that you may not know about the building is that they built it with no corner supports because there was a church on the corner that had to stay. The supports are in the middle of each side, pretty neat that it stays up!
The next picture was taken while I was walking down Lexington Avenue. You can see that there isn’t a lot of traffic for a Saturday and if you look way down the street you can just see the Chrysler Building on the left.
I will make sure to take some pictures whenever I wander around Manhattan!
As promised I have a few cards to share with you today. First I will tell you about my Just Add Ink card for their color challenge this week. At the end of the post I will share my mum’s birthday card and also a note card that I sent to a friend. Here are the colors for JAI challenge…
A fun bunch of colors with two neutrals! The base of my card is Coastal Cabana Card Stock and the first background layer is a piece of Raspberry Ripple. I stamped the Filmstrip Stamp in Sahara Sand on Very Vanilla twice next to each other, one slightly lower. A flag from the Hearts a Flutter Stamp Set is stamped in Raspberry Ripple and cut out with the Hearts a Flutter Framelits Dies goes on top of the filmstrips. The stars are from the SImply Stars Stamp set and are stamped in Raspberry Ripple and Coastal Cabana, the large stars are punched out with the “Vintage” Large Star Punch and the little ones are cut out with my Paper Snips. For the greeting I used the Banner Greetings Host(ess) Stamp Set stamped in Raspberry Ripple. A piece of Coastal Cabana is cut out with the Expressions Thinlits Dies and adhered in the top left corner with some 2-Way Glue. One of the Neutrals Designer Button with some Linen Thread tied in a bow completes the card. I love the color combination and the randomness of the card. I hope we get some more Expressions Thinlits in the Spring Catalog!
Next up is my mum’s birthday card. Remember I told you the she requested a card this year? I had show her the card that I made for my Aussie mate Carolyn and she, also being a big butterfly fan loved it. I made one for her but changed it up a bit.
Here is the front with some of my favorite feathers and some Encore Gold Ink.
Here is the inside with the fun Swallowtail that pops up when you open up the card.
Finally here is a card that I made for my friend Bev using the new Map it Out Photopolymer Stamp Set.
Thank you so very much for stopping by to see my projects for today. I hope that you enjoyed them and that you have a fun Sunday! ๐

Love all the cards, Justin. Just perfect. Love your Mum’s version of the Butterfly card. I’m a purple girl too, but I’m so happy to have received the original, LOL!
Thank you Carolyn! Yes, you were the first to get that card! I have made quite a few of them actually! ๐
Three cards in a day?! You have been a busy beaver. I love them all but the first one with the stars is a Wow! I love the colors and what a cool combination of stamps, and I love that film strip in the back. All great cards!
Thank you Sandy! I was a busy boy yesterday! I needed to redeem myself from yesterday’s card! LOL! ๐
oh Wow Justin, oh Wow! I love the way you used the filmstrip as the subtle accent for card #1. Your Mum’s birthday card – simply amazing, especially having the butterfly “pop” up when the card is opened. I bet she was ga ga over it! The friendship card was really neat – the kind of card I’d love to receive because it is so different.
My favorite place to be in the city is Battery Park with a lunch from one of the fabulous deli’s. Sitting on a bench watching the street performers and looking at the Statue of Liberty on a sunny day – life can’t get any better than that.
Thank you Grace! I love the Filmstrip for a background. Yes, mum loved her card and shows it to everyone! I have wanted a US map stamp for a while, thanks SU! LOL!
Hmm, I have never tried that in Battery Park, I will have to give it a go!
Thank you for the pictures of Manhattan. Miss it.
Welcome Germaine! ๐
Jason I love your feathers , how did you do them , card so BEAUITIFUL !!!
Frenchie
Thanks Frenchie! Just CS folded in half and cut with the Ovals Collection Framelits, then some Paper Snip action.
WOW you are quite a photographer. Gorgeous pictures.
Now to yours cards: double WOW WOW. Your card for JAI185 is beautiful. I just realized the one I made for MOJO313 is in those colors (minus one) LOL.
The card you made for your mom: simply stunning! Love the butterfly inside, so elegant. And the last one is quite nice too. Can’t do that, no map of Canada…. yet! LOL
Have a great Sunday!
Thank you Louise! The iPhone camera is pretty good!
So happy you like the cards! Hopefully they will release other maps! You have a great Sunday too! ๐
I love all three cards, such a treat for us, thank you! I especially love the flag and stars layered over the film strip, the elegance of your mom’s card but with random splatter? spots even over the butterfly, the feathers (thanks for the how to) and the simplicity of the map. I too hope SU comes out with Canada, do you have any influence???
Thank you very much Lynne! I love the collage look. Yes, I wanted some gold on my mum’s card, even on the butterfly! I will see if I can get a hold of Sarah about that map! ๐
Justin, what a sweet son you must be! I know your mom adored her birthday card; I bought the Papaya Collage set just for that flower. Now I think I will use the frame the way you did-thanks for the idea! I have been on a bit of a feather kick lately, too. Super cards (as always)! Happy Sunday ๐
Thanks Georgie! That is very nice of you to say! SHe loved her card! I actually like all of the elements in Papaya Collage. Love the feathers!! I hope that you had a nice Sunday! ๐
