It’s Thursday already! That is definitely a good thing! I had a fun day at work yesterday dealing with our Lobby TV set up. We show a loop on the TV and the things that we use now don’t work so I’m testing out new solutions and think I may have found one that uses Mac minis. Hopefully it will work! I was going to post more Convention pictures today but something a little more important was brought to my attention. Yesterday morning my friend Danielle text me this news story about a 5 year old boy that lives in Foxboro, MA. He is different than many other little boys, he has an inoperable brain tumor that is also chemo therapy resistant. It’s his birthday tomorrow and all he wants for it is lots of cards. So I thought well I make cards and I’m going to send him one. He likes cards with his name on them so that just what he will get. Here is the card that I made for him…
You can read about his story HERE and if you would like to send a card, it will be late but I don’t think he will mind, you can send it to:
Danny Nickerson
PO Box 212
Foxboro, MA 02035
And yes, I’m all teary eyed as I write this because I don’t think it’s fair for a 5 year old to have anything wrong with them. If a card will make him happy then a card he will get. Sorry for the sad start to the post but I just had to share his story with you. Sometimes a card is all it takes to make someone’s day and I’m happy that I get to do that!
Now on to happier things, today I have my card for this week’s Freshly Made Sketches…
I know that you are all not feeling the Christmas cards but I have new goodies that need some love so I did another one today! The card starts off with a base of Whisper White Card Stock. The background is a simple piece of Soft Sky and I stamped my greeting from the Christmas Bliss Photopolymer Stamp Set in Garden Green right on the background. A strip of Nordic Noel Designer Series Paper* and a piece of adhesive cork sheet come across from the right. The image is from the Cheerful Christmas Stamp Set* and is heat embossed with White Stampin’ Emboss Powder. I used the Window Frames Collection Framelits to cut it out and pierced around the edge with the Festive Paper-Piercing Pack. Some Stampin’ Dimensionals hold it to the card and a few Basic Jewels Rhinestones in the lower left complete the card. I really do love blues for Christmas and Soft Sky is becoming a favorite! I also think it’s neat the way the image from the Cheerful Christmas Set fits inside the Window Frame. I hope that you enjoyed my card for this week’s Freshly Made Sketches challenge. If you have some time send a card to Danny to put a smile on his face. Thank you very much for coming by today and I hope that you all have a good Thursday! 🙂

You are so sweet and caring! Your card for Danny is both beautiful and fun. I am sure he will love it and it will bring some joy in his days. It is very sad and makes you feel so powerless in situations like this one.
And you are right, not quite ready to think about XMas just yet. But your card is gorgeous. Can’t wait for pre-order!. Have a great day.
Thank you Louise. It does make you feel sad, but if all that he wants is cards then that’s what he will get.
Thanks! I love the goodies in the new catalog! Can’t wait to get the feathers!! 🙂
Justin, love the card you made for Danny. I am a postmaster in MA and yesterday he received over 10,000 cards, I am betting today will be more.
Peace,
Tracy
Thank you Tracy! WOW! That’s great to hear that he got so many. 🙂
Hi Justin–There is so much sadness out there, isn’t there? It’s hard to see little children that suffer like Danny. But kids are amazing and I’ll bet he’s the happiest little guy on earth today! What a nice thing you’ve done! I read Tracy’s comment on how many cards he received…truly amazing. On to your card…love it! Honestly, that Cheerful Christmas set didn’t stand out to me as a must-have but seeing what you did with it here, I’m re-thinking that. And of course I love this color combo for Christmas of red, green and blue. Do you adhere your cork with snail or do you use something a little stronger? Hope you have a great day!
Hello Karen!
There really is a lot of sadness, but I think that it makes us appreciate what we have even more. I couldn’t not send him a card. It’s a terrible thing, but I’ll bet he is quite happy today! 10,000 cards is quite a bit, and how nice to think of all of the people that took a little time and sent him one. Thank you! I think the set is neat, very different. I love a little blue, especially the softness of Soft Sky. The cork that I use has adhesive backing, so much easier! I hope that you had a nice day! 🙂
Hi Justin, I saw Danny’s story on FB, and sat down and made him a card, too! Happy to hear from Tracy that he is getting LOTS of cards. Glad we can bring a smile in a sad situation. Have a great rest of the week!
Hello Esther,
I’m happy to hear that you sent Danny a card too! I think it’s great that he is getting as many as he is! It makes me happy to hear all of the people that are sending them to him! Enjoy the rest of your week too! 🙂
So sad. And Thanks for sending on the address, I love that he has received so many cards and I am going to make him one today too. His whole family will get a lift from reading and enjoying all the happy mail. Thanks for always posting inspiring cards on your blog. Kay V
It is sad, but it has brought out the best in people and that’s one good thing! Thanks for making him one! I hope that you had a nice day Kay! 🙂
Love the card you made for Danny, he’ll love it! I’m going to make him a card to add to the thousands he’s already received. Our family found out in May that my 3 year old great niece Hadlie also has a DIPG tumor so I know that Danny’s family will find strength from all the support they are receiving.Thank you for sharing his story!
Thank you very much Laurene! I thought the octopus was fun and I had to put his name on the front, nice and big! I’m so sorry to hear that you are going thorough a similar situation. Hug her as much as you can! 🙂
The post below is from my sister Lynne! We were looking at your blog at the same time even though we live about 900 kilometers apart!!
Oh wow! How cool is that Laurene! 🙂
I love your card, like getting sneak peaks! I mailed my card to Danny yesterday, used the Calling All Heroes set. DIPG tumors are devastating to children, located in the brain stem so biopsies or surgery are impossible, and chemo doesn’t work, radiation to shrink it and buy them some time. My three year old granddaughter was diagnosed with a DIPG tumor in May and has two days of radiation treatment left, memory making next on our list.
Thank you Lynne! I love that set, I didm;t think that I would but I do! I’m happy to hear that you sent Danny a card too! That’s a great set, I’m sure that he will love it! I’m sorry to hear that you too are affected by this. Give her all the love that you can! 🙂
Oh my, how this story pulls on my heart. I have not heard of Danny’s story. Thank you for passing it along. I will most definitely get a fun card out to him. I have made cards for 2 other children with stories like this in the past. It makes me feel good to be able to hopefully bring a smile to their faces. Tracy’s number of 10,000 cards…..WOW Keep em coming. Your nautical card today is super fun! Nice sneek preview of the holiday caddy. Wish my caddy gets here soon do I can be ready for the pre order. I keep looking at it online.
Yes Lisa, me too. I’m sure that he will love your card. It’s so nice to do something so small that will have such a big impact! I hope that he gets 10 times that many! I will say that having the physical catalog does make a difference! 🙂
Hi Justin, I also heard Danny’s story and just had to send a card….it’s what we do and there is not a better reason to do it than this. Life can be so unfair sometimes. Your card is sure to bring a smile to his face!
Hi Roseanne! That’s great that you sent a card, I’m so happy that so many have. It definitely is what we do and what better reason than to make someone smile?! 🙂
Lovin’ that new set……beautifully done! And an oh so cute card for Danny as well! So glad to meet you at Convention!
Thank you Linda! He is a cute little boy so he deserves a cute card! I was very happy to have met you too! Have a wonderful week! 🙂
Hi Justin, what a lovely guy you are. I think Danny will love your card and the lots of others he will receive. Sometimes at the moment it seems like there is quite a lot of bad in this world but then I hear stories how people help each other by trying to bring happiness into those who are in need life and I think it’s not a bad place after all. I used to be a children’s nurse so Danny’s story definitely touches me and even though I’m in the UK I know what I will be card making tomorrow.
Like the sneak peak of Nordic DSP! Have a good day.
Michelle xx
Thank you Michelle! I was very touched my Danny’s story. All he wants is cards, that’s easy! I know there is a lot of bad in the world but you have too think of all of the people that have sent a card, there is a lot of good too! I think that getting a card from the UK would make his day! TO know that someone so far away cares, I’m sure his parents will be happy. The Nordic Noel DSP is cool, nice small patterns! I hope that you had a good day! XO
Such beautiful card Justin! I love the one you made for Danny! It will definitely bring a smile to his face! Such a little gesture that will go so far! Beautiful Christmas card! I love that focal image! The red stands out so nicely! Thanks for joining us this week at Freshly Made Sketches!
I agree with you, I only did pediatric nursing for a short time, I love kids but when my first patient died from leukemia i knew I was not cut out for that type of nursing. OK now I’m teary eye, I love his card, he will too. My card was already sent
Love your Christmas card, great stamp set, take care
I can’t even imagine being a pediatric nurse Linda. I was upset from reading the story, I don’t know what would happen if I actually got to know him. Happy to hear that you sent a card too! Thanks! It was fun to play with the new stuff! 🙂
