Mojo 373

Technically it’s Thursday today! LOL! Well, Tuesday but no work on Thursday and Friday so we’ll say it’s Thursday! Yesterday was a quiet day at the office and the rest of my department had a charity event last night so they left at 2:30. When I got home I had some dinner and made my card for today. I had a few errands to run so I went and picked up Heather and we headed over to Target. The rest of the evening was spent relaxing for a bit. I was debating on whether or not I was going to work on Friday and I think that I will skip it! Are you all ready for your Thanksgiving festivities? I just have to show up at the parents house! Oh, I do have to take my friend Chantal to the airport on Thursday, she’s off to Paris for a bit to see her family. I’m a little jealous! My friend Michael is on a roll with another post today! He used Glossy Accents (Crystal Effects) to make a funky ornament and necklace. Click HERE to take a look!

My card for today is for this week’s Mojo Monday sketch challenge..

Yay! Tall & Skinny! I took my unusual color combo from the Designer Series Paper! The card base is Cherry Cobbler Card Stock and the background is Crisp Cantaloupe. I used a piece of Trim the Tree Designer Series Paper for my angled piece across the card. Next up is a piece of Garden Green that I heat embossed some snowflakes from the Endless Wishes Photopolymer Stamp Set in White Stampin’ Emboss Powder on. It’s backed with some Cherry Cobbler and adhered to the card with SNAIL. My image and greeting are from the Making Spirits Bright Stamp Set and is stamped in Memento Tuxedo Black. I used Prismacolor Pencils to color in the image and backed it with another piece of Cherry Cobbler. A few 2013-2015 In-Color Sequins are adhered with Crystal Effects and then I adhered the image to the card with Stampin’ Dimensionals. I wasn’t too sure about the colors but in the end I really like them together! I hope that you enjoyed today’s card for this week’s Mojo Monday sketch challenge. Thanks for taking some time to come by and see me today! I hope that you have a fun Tuesday! 🙂

  1. Hi Justin, what a HAPPY (hour) card. The color combo is very sharp looking and you were spot on with the sketch. Thanks for the link to Michaels blog…it’s like getting a two for one sale. He is very talented. Have a good Tuesday.

    1. Hello Roseanne!
Thanks! I thought the colors were fun too! I’m glad that you are enjoying Michael’s blog, he is quite talented and he does some very different stuff! I hope that your Tuesday was a good one too! 🙂

  2. Good Morning Justin- what a fun card- giving thanks indeed! The color combination works with the lighthearted theme really well.
I just saw on the weather that we are going to be in the 80s this weekend in Phoenix. I am hoping that all of my family back east stays warm and dry.
    Have a wonderful “Thursday “

    1. Hi Marty!
Thank you! I really love the Crisp Cantaloupe with the Cherry Cobbler too! I wish I was in Phoenix! We are supposed to get rain and possibly some snow today! Yuck! Yes, today is “Friday”! 🙂

  3. Hi Justin!
Great card! I love your take on this sketch. Great job with the embossed snowflakes. I thought it was dsp until I read the description. The sequins were a great touch too. Your sounding more like your old self. Hope you are feeling cheerier.

    1. Hello Gerri!
Thanks so much! I love to do a random pattern instead of DSP sometimes! I am feeling a bit better, we can’t wallow forever over things that we have no control over. Have a great day! 🙂

  4. Hi Justin! LOVE your card today! The non-traditional color combo really speaks to me for some reason. And I love the layout. So pretty. Those embossed snowflakes are gorgeous! Are you like me when you go to Target and end up buying more than you went in for? 😉 I can never stick to my list in that store. I’ve checked out Michael’s blog…wow…is he ever a talented designer! I’ve been meaning to ask you if Andrew’s made a card lately? Hope your day is off to a great start!

    1. Hello Karen!
Thanks very much! The random stamping is fun instead of DSP and it’s quick and easy, especially with the Photopolymer stamps! I always get more at Target than I went for! I’m glad that I’m not the only one that happens to! LOL! I’m so glad that you are enjoying Michael’s blog, he is pretty talented! Andrew has been very busy with school lately, but I’ll get him to make a card soon! I had a good day and hope that you did too! 🙂

  5. Target should roll out the red carpet for you and Heather — you are there so often. I like how you used the snowflake from Endless Wishes. I thought it was a cool paper from the DSP stack, but your idea is better, of course. I love the stamps in the Making Spirits Bright set, just perfect for my Manhattan cousins! I’m glad you have a break from work. I know you will enjoy all the time off. I hope you are getting back to your usual cheerful, happy self– it sounds like it. I love the Sam Smith song about “crazy”. I am going to get it from Amazon later. Thanks for turning us on to him. He is so low key I never would have noticed him otherwise. Have fun on Turkey Day. Take pictures. I, for one, am very grateful to have found you! With love, Nancy B

    1. LOL! Yes, they should Nancy! Thank you! I do love to use an image for “DSP”! The images in the Making Spirits Bright set are cool! I am looking forward to 4 days off from work! I need to be a little on the productive side! I’m a little better, can’t be sad forever. Sam is great and yes, I’m Not the Only One is a super song! I’m glad that you are enjoying him! You have a good Thanksgiving too! I’m grateful to have you along every day! Love and hugs! 🙂

  6. Hi Justin,
Great cards since Saturday. I had such a busy, out of the house from 10-10 both Saturday & Sunday!!! Love the black & silver one the best. This is my second fave! Love that martini stamp! Your Manhattan pics are fantastic and thanks for Michael’s link too.
Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family.
    🙂

    1. Hello!
Thank you very much! Wow! You sound like you are having me days! Glad you enjoyed the pictures and Michael’s blog! Happy Thanksgiving to you too! 🙂

  7. I just typed a whole comment and poof gone! Let me see if I can get the feelings back into what I said . . . .(I think I’m missing something.)
    Hi Justin,
I’ve been out of the house from 10-10 on Saturday & Sunday, fun family things, but still long days out. I like all your recent cards. The black & silver is my fave. This is my second one. I like the martini stamp. Your Manhattan pics are great and thanks for Michael’s link.
    Happy Thanksgiving.
    🙂

    1. Nancy – that’s happened to me several times but what I get is something that says I “timed out”. Now, after I write my comment I copy it so that if it disappears I just paste it back into the comment section.

  8. Oh Justin: You are so lucky that you just have to walk into your parents house and eat. I hope you buy your Mom or make your Mom a hostess gift! I’m sure she spends days preparing this special meal for her family. Then you could give her the lovely card you made for today with a hand written note telling her how thankful you are for her. Of course the card would become very precious to her as we Mother’s are pretty sentimental.

Now, were you hexing me with the snowflakes in the card? I ask because I just saw the weather forecast for Wednesday and Thursday here and guess what – yup – snow and ice! Makes me feel better that my kids aren’t able to drive up here for Thanksgiving so I won’t worry about them making the trip in horrible weather.

Meanwhile – you have yourself a magnificent day!

    1. Yes Grace, I am very lucky! I will make my mum something don’t worry! She has kept every card that I have made her. That’s why mums are the best!
We are to have bad weather here today too, you are not alone! I hope that everyone stays safe! I hope your day was great too! 🙂

  9. Yep Grace and Nancy that happens to me very often too…. losing the whole comment…. so I have started doing like Grace, except I now do it every second line I type, especially if early in the morning on my iPad mini…. LOL….. technology!

Happy middle of the work week Justin. I must say I envy you. We already have had our Thanksgiving here in Canada. Love your card. I would never have thought of putting those colors together but they are so ‘crisp’ and ‘cherry’. And those stripes! Great card. Have a super day. Think about it….. tomorrow is already kinda of Friday for you! 🙂

    1. Sorry that you have trouble too Louise! Technology! LOL!
Happy end of the week! I’m very glad to have off after today! Thank you! Glad you enjoyed the card! Today is Friday!! Woo hoo! Enjoy your day! 🙂

  10. Interesting blend of colors, I never would have used Cantalope but it is perfect. Great creatin as usual. I really like Endless Wishes, it is a great set. But my OCD kicks in when my Polymere stamps get stained. I know it is only ink, it does not effect the stamp but it really bothers me. Nouts I know. Have a good one. Today is my buckle down and start cooking day

    1. Thanks! I love Endless Wishes! It’s a very versatile set! I clean my stamps off immediately! I don’t like the staining either! I’m just as nuts as you then! LOL! Have fun cooking! 🙂

  11. OMG I really need caffeine. Sorry I’m messing your blog up. My original did not save.

Great creation, cantalope not a color I would have chosen but it is perfect here. To me its a spring/summer color but it works so well. I love Endless Wishes, great set. My OCD kicks in with Polymere stamps, I love them but the staining really bothers me. I know its only ink stains, it does not effect the stamp but I can’t get over it.

Today is my star cooking day, have a good one

    1. Ha ha! You are not messing anything up, not to worry Linda!
Thank you very much! Cantaloupe is bright but we can use bright all year long! Ha ha! I don’t like the sting either but it shows that your stamps are loved! 🙂

  12. Hi Justin, I love your tall and skinny card! Especially the sequins, they add the perfect accent! I would love to celebrate a Thanksgiving, we don’t have any such occasion here. I hope you enjoy Thanksgiving with your family, and your short week at work. I will have to wait until Christmas for my time off (and turkey) 😉 cheers, Kelly xx

    1. Hello Kelly!
Thank you! I do love the tall & skinny! Sequins make everything better! You could celebrate a made up day! Start your own holiday tradition! I’m happy to have a short week! Have a great day! XO 🙂

  13. What a playful color combo!! I love how the Crisp Cantaloupe looks so rich with the Cherry Cobbler AND the DSP tie in 🙂 This is a great example of how you can use these unusual color pairings and look – a wonderful and gorgeous card you created 😉 I think it is just brilliant, like bubbly laughter. (Ok, I’m corny 😉

    1. Thanks so much Jill! I like when I can take an unusual color combo from the DSP and expand it out to the whole card! I like corny too! 🙂
