Control Freaks December Blog Tour

freakwelcome2013

Hello everyone and welcome to the Control Freaks December Blog Tour. This month we are featuring sneak peeks from the upcoming 2015 Occasions and Sale-A-Bration Catalogs. You can order from the catalogs starting January 6, 2015. If you are following along on the tour you have arrived here from Melissa Davies blog. Such awesome projects as always. I have two cards and a treatย holder for you today! I kept my theme very masculine too! Love all of the new “guy” stamp sets and Designer Series Paper in the new catalog!

Lets get started with my first card which is a birthday card. The card base is Soft Suede Card Stock and the background is a piece of Crumb Cake that I embossed with my favorite, the Woodgrain Textured Impressions Embossing Folder. A piece of paper from the Adventure Bound Designer Series Paper Stack is adhered on top of that. To create my tag I used the new Ornate Tag Topper punch and a piece of Very Vanilla. My image is from the Guy Greetings Photopolymer Stamp Set and is stamped in Memento Tuxedo Black and colored in with my Crumb Cake and Skin Tone Assortment Stampin’ Blendabilities Markers. A piece of Gold Baker’s Twine is knotted in the top and the tag is adhered to the card with Stampin’ Dimensionals. A few dots of Crystal Effects keep the tails in place. My greeting is from the Four You Stamp Set and is heat embossed on Vellum and cut out with the Project Life Cards and Labels Framelits. Some carefully placed 2-Way Glue adheres it to the card. I love the new Adventure Bound Designer Series Paper Stack, the photographic pages are great and they are all neat prints on the other side!

The second card that I have for you is a masculine take on a shaker card. For this one I used Island Indigo Card Stock for the card base. The background is another piece of paper from the Adventure Bound Designer Series Paper Stack backed with a piece of Basic Black before adhering it to the card base. I used the Gift Card Envelope & Trims Thinlit to cut out a piece of Vellum. The greeting is from the Adventure Awaits Photopolymer Stamp Set and is heat embossed in Black Stampin’ Emboss Powder. I put the envelope together with some Fast Fuse Adhesive and before closing the last flap I sprinkled in some Frosted Sequins and a few light blue ones that I had. The envelope is adhered to the card with some more Fast Fuse and two pieces of Stacked with Love Designer Washi Tape are placed on the top and bottom. I love the rippled water picture with the Island Indigo and Basic Black. The envelope makes a cool shaker for the sequins too!

For my final project I have a little treat bag. This is a made with a new Thinlit that’s pretty cool! Some Crumb Cake Card Stock is cut out with the new Mini Treat Bag Thinlits. I used some of the other elements in the Thinlits to cut out the two star borders and the center window. A piece of Window Sheet is adhered behindย the middle cut out and some Night of Navy behind the stars. The enjoy is cut out form a piece of Silver Foil Sheet and adhered to the window with Multi-Purpose Glue. I put the bag together with Sticky Strip and slid a rather large chocolate chip cookie inside. A prettyย neat way to give a little gift and since you make the bag yourself it can be made from and Designer Series Paper or Card Stock. You can coordinate it with anything that you would like!

  1. Hi Justin:

Love all three of these creations. Boy, these are a real tease as to what to expect from the new catalog and Sale-A-Bration offerings! Your creative juices were really flowing tonight!

I have a hard time with masculine cards so this was quite the inspiration. I really like the new word thinlits. The cuts seem so clean. The brick DSP is fabulous and looks quite real. I can tell this is going to be really fun to use. There is a NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race called the “Brickyard 400” and what a perfect paper for a card based on that. I am friends with one of the crew chiefs and send him a birthday card every year and I just know he will get a kick out of his card if I use that paper.

Hope you had fun making your 3 gifts to us today. Now that they are finished you can go ahead and eat that big chocolate chip cookie as your reward. Have a wonderful weekend my friend! Hugs. ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. Hi Grace!
Thank you! Yes, the new Catalogs are filled with lots of great stuff!! Sometimes I do work best under pressure! LOL!
I love the new Adventure Bound DSP Stack, the photographic pages are so cool! Yes, the brick paper will be perfect for your crew chief!!
I always have fun making my projects and your comments are the icing on the cake! I did have the cookie today with a nice cup of coffee! I hope that you are having a good weekend! ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. Hey Justin, these creations are really cool! I love the designer papers, something very different, now I really can’t wait for the new catalogue to come out!! It’s great to have some ‘manly’ sets, it used to be so hard to make cards for guys… My Saturday has been busy, cleaning house and washing, not very exciting, but it was really hot so good to get the sheets and towels dry! Hope you find something more interesting to do for your Saturday ๐Ÿ˜‰ Cheers, Kelly xx

    1. Hi Kelly!
Thanks! Yes, the DSP is very different and I love it! We definitely needed some more manly offerings! I had a speedy Saturday, it just flew by! I got lost in the craft space which is not a bad thing! ๐Ÿ™‚

  3. Justin, Great projects!! Love the idea of putting the sequins in a gift card envelope. The Washi tape is a great touch. The treat bag is also really cool. I love the look of the cut out window with the word enjoy. Also the die cut stars – its the little things that make a big difference. One question – you said that the bag was cut from crumb cake card stock but it is showing up as blue on my computer. Is it really crumb cake?

    1. Thank you very much Gerri! I thought it was a fun and different take on a shaker! I agree that little touches do make a big difference! The rat bag is definitely Crumb Cake, the stars are Night of Navy. Hmmm… wonder what happened there?! ๐Ÿ™‚

  4. Great ideas for masculine cards. Love how you came up with the shaker cards (even if they were all last minute)! I would have been in panic mode!

  5. Happy Saturday! My uncle will be 97 on Feb. 1, is in assisted living, and still lifts his weights. When I saw that stamp set I thought that would make a fabulous card for him! I hope I can get an order in and receive it in time to make it. I love your projects for today. Your cookie holder is perfect for a treat! Now go brew a coffee and enjoy that cookie! Nancy B

    1. I hope that you had a happy Saturday Nancy! WOW! 97! That’s great! Yes, the strongman would be perfect for him! I’m so glad that you enjoyed the projects! I had my cookie and coffee just like you suggested! ๐Ÿ™‚

  6. Boy, it must be nice to have someone make a stamp from your photo! Just kidding. Have a super holiday.

    1. LOLOLOL! Ha ha! Yes Germaine! That was great! If only! I wish you a wonderful Holiday too! ๐Ÿ™‚
