Watercolor Butterfly Basics

I decided to start typing my post on the train on the way home. There something about the train at 10:00pm, it’s much louder than it should be! I had a very nice visit with my friend Greg. It was so nice to see him, it has been way too long. We had a nice dinner at a diner not far from where he is staying on 52nd Street. We both had a bacon and blue cheese burger with fries and really good coleslaw and a delicious pickle!

So I gave you a little sneak peek of my card that I made with some of the new goodies from my Catalog Pre-Order and as promised here is the entire card! I used some Basic Black Card Stock for my base. The background is a piece of Watercolor Paper. All of the stamped images are from the Butterfly Basics Photopolymer Stamp Set*. I stamped the leaves in Pear Pizzaz and used a paintbrush that I kept pretty wet to brush across the paper. I think that it’s really cool the way that the green tinted the paper but left the leaves brown. The image down the left is heat embossed in Gold Stampin’ Emboss Powder and the greeting in Black Stampin’ Emboss Powder. A piece of 1 1/4″ Burlap Ribbon is flagged and adhered across the bottom with Fast Fuse. On top of that is another one of the images heat embossed in Gold Stampin’ Emboss Powder on Vellum Card Stock and adhered with some more Fast Fuse. The butterfly is cut out with the Butterfly Thinlits*. I adhered the die cut to some Vellum Card Stock and cut around it with my Paper Snips. I used the new Bermuda Bay* and Pear Pizzaz* Stampin’ Blendabilities Markers to color in the back side and adhered it to the card with some Glue Dots. A quick brush with my Wink of Stella Clear Glitter Pen on the body for a little sparkle! To finish the card I used one of the Gold Basic Metal Buttons with some Linen Thread tied in a bow. I love the elements in the stamp set, so many different ones all with an eclectic feel to them! I hope that you enjoyed your sneak peek at some of the new goodies from the upcoming 2015 Occasions Catalog. Thank you for stopping by and have an amazing Thursday! ๐Ÿ™‚

  1. Hey Justin ๐Ÿ™‚ What a pretty card! I like what you’ve done with the butterfly. As a rule I’m not a big fan of realistic looking butterflies, they’re a bit too much like moths (which I am terrified of!) but this butterfly is pretty and not too scary at all! I love the background with the fern, and the sentiment is perfect for any occasion! Your dinner sounds delicious – I had lasagne. It’s almost Friday, I have my office Christmas party tomorrow night – last year it was forecast 113f, not quite that hot this week, thank goodness ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. Hello Kelly!
Thank you very much! Oh no! Moths are harmless and butterflies are just pretty! Is it a Silence of the Lamb thing?! LOL! I really do love the elements in that stamp set! Mmm, lasagna! I’m happy that it’s Friday, last night was pretty busy though! I hope that you had fun at you Christmas party! 113 is a little warm but I might take it over 30! ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. So many different elements to your card. Totally in love with your butterfly. Stain glass looking. Wouldn’t it be so pretty if it could be illuminated. I can see a hint of the glitter on the body. My friend Maria told me about Wink of Stella. It’s wonderful. Justin you are so good using such a mixture of products. Beautiful.

    1. Thank you so much Lisa! I thought that die cut wood look cool with the vellum! It would be very nice if I could light it, not a bad idea! I’ll have to see how to go about that! The Wink of Stella pen is great! So glad that you enjoyed the card! ๐Ÿ™‚

  3. Good morning Justin! I’m a butterfly junkie and I absolutely adore what you’ve done here. Gorgeous! I hope you enjoy your day!

    1. Hello Vicki!
My mum loves butterflies too! And my friend Carolyn! Thank you very much! I had a good day and hope that you did too! ๐Ÿ™‚

  4. Hello Justin! Gosh, this is such a pretty card! I do love that new butterfly thinlet but what you’ve done with it is amazing! Hurry up Mr Brown…my delivery is scheduled for today. Can’t wait to start playing with the new things! I think this stamp set is so versatile and can be used for many different occasions. Have a great day Justin!

    1. Hi Karen!
Thank you! The butterfly Thinlit s great but I thought that he needed something else! You are going to have so much fun with your new goodies! I love all of the elements in the stamp set! Sort of like Kinda Eclectic II! ๐Ÿ™‚

  5. Oh, you’ve made good on showing the whole card and all I can say is Wow! I can’t wait to see the Occasions catalog. I love what you did with the burlap ribbon. Thank you! Nancy B

  6. Hi Justin:

The faded fern behind the gorgeous butterfly makes for a stunning card. I’d like to get my hands on one of the Wink of Stella Clear Glitter Pens. I’ll have to search for one. That clear glitter on the butterfly body was the perfect amount of glitz, and you know I love glitz! You did a fabulous job (as always) with this card.

Getting warmer here in mid coast Maine and the ice on the driveway is finally melting. That means that after this respite we will probably have a Nor’ Easter and end up with 2 feet of new snow. LOL Gotta’ love it to survive here and we do.

Have yourself a Terrific Tuesday and thanks so much for sharing this sneak peek with us. Hugs ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. Hello Grace!
Thank you! I was really happy that all of the green came out of the Pear Pizzaz and left that soft brown behind! You definitely need a Wink of Stella Clear Pen, it ads just a little sparkle which I know you love!
I’m glad that your weather is improving! We had a little sun yesterday too and we are to warm up by the weekend. No more snow please!!
My Thursday was good, hope that yours was too! Hugs to you! ๐Ÿ™‚

  7. So, that black butterfly is beautiful. I love your choice of colors coming through. The card is totally great.

  9. Love what you did with the butterfly! Did you have to hand trim the vellum behind the butterfly, or how did you do it?

    1. Thanks very much Theresa! I did hand trim the Vellum. I adhered the die cut and then just cut around it! ๐Ÿ™‚
