Freshly Made Sketches 168

To describe the temperature here as cold would be an understatement! It is downright FREEZING! I guess if it wasn’t so windy it wouldn’t be that bad, but it’s pretty darn cold, like minus 10 cold! I was also quite tired yesterday. I made it through the day at work and got a lot done. I stopped by Scrap-A-Latte after work to meet up with Andrew so we could go over any last minute things with Renee and get keys. When I got home and went to my parents little Daniel was there and I chased him around for a bit. Then I came home and took a nice two hour nap! I did feel a lot better after that and was able to sit down and make my card for today.

After a little holiday break the ladies over at Freshly Made Sketches are back with a new sketch…

Freshly Made Sketches 168

Very nice and simple! To start off my card I used a base of Daffodil Delight Card Stock and covered the front with a piece of the Gold Fancy Foil Designer Vellum with some very strategically placed Multi-Purpose Glue to hold it in place. The image is from the Sale-A-Bration A Happy Thing Stamp Set and is heat embossed in Gold Stampin’ Emboss Powder. I used Daffodil Delight and Wild Wasabi Stampin’ Blendabilities Markers to color it in. My greeting is from another Sale-A-Bration set, You Brighten My Day, also heat embossed in Gold on Vellum Card Stock and punched out with the Banner Punch. I cut out a piece of Wild Wasabi and Gold Glimmer Paper to put behind it and adhered it to the base with SNAIL. I needed a nice bright happy card on such a chilly day and I think this one fits the bill! I hope that you like my card for this week’s Freshly Made Sketches challenge using some of the new sets from Sale-A-Bration. Thanks very much for taking some time out of your day to check in with me! Here’s to a good Thursday, we all know what tomorrow is!! 🙂

  1. Hey Justin, I really like this card, I love the layering and the cards you used. The lemon stamp is cute too! I understand you needing to take a nap – returning to work after the Christmas break is exhausting! A least we have a coffee machine at work to help us cope! Sounds chilly there… We had a ‘cool change’ today – down to about 89 degrees, and lots of rain. The day we walked through Central Park was so hot, I can’t imagine it being cold there! Anyway, could chat for ages, but time for bed 😉 have a great day Justin xx

    1. Hello Kelly!
Thank you! I needed something refreshing! LOL! I really did need a nap! Three hours of sleep is not enough for even me! I drink about 8 cups of coffee a day and it has no effect on me whatsoever! I wish it did! It’s freezing here!! I don’t enjoy the winter at all! I would take your cool any day! It was 60 degrees here on Sunday, yes it was rainy but it was -10 last night! A 70 degree drop! That’s way too much! I love wandering through Central Park in the summer! Hope that you had a nice sleep! Tomorrow’s Friday!! Yay! 🙂

  2. Good Morning Justin. The card is really cheerful and I love the gold embossing and coloring on the vellum. I am really enjoying seeing all the new stamps and creative ways to use them.
-10-just so cruel-It just sounds so brutal in so many parts of the country- hopefully it will change soon. At least it’s Thursday! Hang in there!

    1. Hello Marty!
Thanks! I thought it was a happy little card too! I love to get new stuff! I think that’s why I enjoy stamping so much, there is always something new! Yes, -10 is evil! I hope that it warms up soon. I don’t want to have to wish for Spring so soon! LOL! Yes, we know what tomorrow is! 🙂

  3. I love the gold embossing on this, and your coloring is beautiful, Justin. Great use of the sketch! We’re waking up to 15 degree temps here in Texas this morning, which just isn’t right. I know that you’d probably love to trade our temp for yours, but we just aren’t used to that here. Stay warm!

    1. Thanks so much Amy! I love the sketch! Wow! That’s really cold for you guys! But yes, I would rather that than -10! You stay warm too and enjoy your weekend! 🙂

  4. Hi there Justin! Your card is so pretty—I can ALMOST feel the warmth of the sunshine on the lemon! 😉 Love the layering of the vellum paper over the daffodil delight paper..so soft and pretty! I don’t think it can get any colder…can it? My goodness, another day of staying indoors. I just got my new fitbit and was looking forward to doing some walking outdoors. That may have to wait a few days. That’s ok for me to stay in today anyhow…Mr. Brown should be coming with a big box of new things to play with! Have a great day!

    1. Hey Karen!
Thank you! Yes, I thought it was nice and “warm” and I need that right now! I think that it actually can get colder, if I remember correctly it was colder last year! I have an Up24 Band and since the move at work I am averaging 12,000 stops a day! Yay for being in the back of the building! LOL! Enjoy your new goodies! 🙂

  5. Justin, I knew you could do something wonderful with this lemon. Gold embossed- love it!! I did end up getting this set after I saw how you colored the bird. Now you’ve inspired me with the lemon. The embossing makes it special. Great take on the sketch too. Thanks for sharing!
It’s FREEZING here in Jersey too. 🙁

    1. Yay! Thanks for having faith in me Gerri! I love that bird but I thought that the Lemon needed some love too! Yes, it’s too cold everywhere at the moment!! Hopefully it will warm up soon! 🙂

  6. Good Morning Justin –

I really love the heart vellum paper! It looks extra beautiful put over the Daffodil Delight cardstock. I especially like the way you layered the Gold Glimmer and Wild Wasabi in back of the lemon stamped Whisper White. What a difference that little bit of tilt makes. It takes that card from O.K. to Wowser! I just love the look. Thanks for sharing your beautiful creation with us.

I don’t think we should be complaining about this miserable, bitter, nasty weather (oh dear, that sounded like a complaint) when I hear that, on top of the above, Plainfield, CT had a earthquake this morning. No one was injured and there was no damage that they can report on at this point but can you imagine having to run out of your house in this miserable, bitter, nasty weather (oh dear, I’m complaining again!)? Just sayin’! LOL
I’m waiting for the birds to land on the feeder, freeze and then go “THUNK” onto the front porch. Yikes.

Well, try to stay warm. Hopefully none of you had a hard time starting your vehicles this morning. I know that here in Maine AAA has been overwhelmed with assistance calls. Try to have a fabulous day despite it all. Hugs to you my frozen friend! 🙂

    1. Hey there Grace!
Thanks! I like that Gold embossed Vellum but have only really used the stripes and circles. The sketch is great and we could all use a little tilt every now and again! LOL!
Wait… there was an earthquake in CT?!?! Oh no! We had one in NY a while ago and I didn’t even feel it. Everyone else did though. Oops! Yes, I wouldn’t like to have to run out of the house in this miserable bitter nasty cold for anything! Ha ha! Poor birds! I thought that I might freeze last to the pavement if I stood still too long outside today! LOL!
I am doing my best to stay warm, its not easy! The heat at work didn’t really kick in until around noon! I had been there 5 hours at that point with my coat on all morning! I can imagine that AAA has had a ton of emergency calls. It’s not good when roads are slippery and people think their cars are better than they are.
I had a nice day and hope yours was good too! XOXO 🙂

  7. I love your card today Justin! The vellum touches are perfect and I really love that layout! I am going to have to make this card at next month’s stamp camp. I feel so sorry for everyone east of me. Being from Chicago, where they are experiencing the same bitter cold right now, I always feel bad for my kids and brother, who still live there. It was 74 here yesterday….and THAT is why I moved to Arizona! Stay warm my friend! Hugs!

    1. Thank you so much Bobbi! You know how I love some Vellum! The sketch is great! I think I need to come to Arizona too! I would much rather 74 than -10!! 🙂

  8. Awesome creation as usual. Love the bold brightness, I never would mix yellow and gold but wow, its great

-13 here, windchills -35 yuck and then snow and heavt winds, sorry but glad its moving east

    1. Thanks so much Linda! I thought that it had a sunny warm feel to it! NOOO! Don’t send it my way! LOL! Something to look forward to… I think not! Stay warm my friend! 🙂

  9. Absolutely love your card. I was hesitating about getting that set but I think you have convinced me!

Love, love this new blog design!! And it knows my name and all the rest (I know lazy one here). Will have to go back to previous days to see when/how it happened. Been MIA a lot lately…. this too shall pass, or so they say, I just wish they would say when LOL (I do have that stamp set, I think I should make myself a card!)

It is freezing here too and now it is snowing and blowing. Poor Rusty, my Yorkie, does not even want to go outside and when he comes back in he looks like a little snowman. Keep warm. 🙂

    1. Thank you Louise! I love the lemon but the bird is my favorite!
I’m glad that you like the new blog! I think it’s much neater more organized! Very happy to hear that it remembers all of your details! I think I have only had it up a week! We all get busy so no worries! You are missed when you aren’t here!
I am over Winter already and it really hasn’t gotten into full swing yet! Aww, Winston doesn’t mind the cold and he just got a haircut today. 🙂
