Can You Case It 62

I had a good day yesterday! I got some of my projects done and had lunch with Taylor. Anthony and Bill came and picked me up around 2:30 and we headed into Manhattan. We got in early so that we could have dinner. We ended up eating at this little diner a few blocks from the Miller Theater where Harmony Sweepstakes takes place. A good burger and really good fries! We arrived at the theater and they let us in a little early so that Anthony wouldn’t have any issues with the wheelchair. Andrew and Satellite Lane were up second and they did a really great set! They made it like a skit with three songs. I have the video and will try to post it to YouTube at some point this week. They won for best innovation and choreography. The group that did win was called Low Key and they were really good. It was great to see Andrew and everyone else and I got to meet his dad for the first time! I got home around 11:15 and Taylor stopped by for a bit. I slept in this morning hence the reason I’m a little late, guess I needed some more rest!

Today I’m over on the Can You Case It blog for this week’s challenge which is Designer Choice…

CYCI #62

Love a challenge like this and I had the perfect card for it! My card starts with a base of Whisper White Card stock. For the front I used a piece of Kraft Card Stock and heat embossed the dashed line from the Butterfly Basics Photopolymer Stamp Set in Gold Stampin’ Emboss Powder. The large butterfly is actually the same as the butterfly that I cut out of a piece of Blushing Bride using the Butterfly Thilits. I saw that Mercedes Weber had cut two out of Fun Foam and glued them together and used them as a stamp. What a cool idea! I did the same and also heat embossed that in Gold Stampin’ Emboss Powder. The Blushing Bride butterfly is heat embossed with Ultra Thick Embossing Powder. My leaves tucked behind the flower are from the Kinda Eclectic Stamp Set and are stamped in Pear Pizzaz on Very Vanilla. I cut them out using a die that got on Etsy. Love those leaves and they do look best cut out so the die is a home run! The burlap flower is similar to one that I had made a while ago. I used some burlap sheets that are coated in Mod Podge and cut out with one of the circles from the Circles Collection Framelits. A slit is cut halfway up each circle and they are hot glued together and then to each other to form the flower. In the middle is a Vintage Faceted Button and a Gold Basic Metal Button. For the greeting I used the one from the Butterfly Basic Set and heat embossed it in Blushing Bride on the Kraft. All of the elements are then adhered to the background, some sequins are sprinkled around and the card is finished. I sent this card to my friend Andrea for her birthday and she loved it! I hope that you like it too! Don’t forget to visit the Can You Case It blog to see what the rest of the Design Team has done with the challenge. Thank you very much for coming to see me today! Have an amazing Sunday! 🙂

  1. Hello Justin! Congrats to Andrew and the rest of the group! Please let us know when you get the video up, can’t wait to see it. Oh my! Your card today is soooo pretty! I had to stare at it for a bit to take it all in. I love all the different textures and what a cool idea turning the butterfly into a stamp! Love that! Can you tell me the name of the die for the leaves? I love that and it matches perfectly! I must get that. I can see why Andrea loved it! Have a great Sunday, we are supposed to get some snow overnight. Ick! A few inches and it won’t stick around long but just enough to make the morning commute for people a little nasty. Enjoy your day!

    1. Hi Karen!
Yes, Andrew and the group were great! You can see on tomorrow’s post! Glad that you like the card! I had a lot of fun putting it together! The die for the leaves is from Etsyand the name is Dies By Dave. Hopefully the snow will be the last for you! Had a good weekend, hope you did too! 🙂

  2. Good Morning Justin:

I think the two buttons nestled together is very, very innovative. Even with the wonderfully embossed butterfly the center of the burlap flower is what caught my eye. There is a lot going on in this card but it works. Did you coat the burlap with the mod podge or was it purchased that way? Either way it’s an impressive idea.

So glad you had fun in Manhattan and I bet Andrew was thrilled to have three of his friends there to support him plus his Dad. So glad his group was able to receive some accolades and recognition. I’m sure they spend a lot of hours rehearsing.

Have a Super Sunday. We woke up to new snow on the ground and those wicked winds are back. Honestly, I can take the cold but not with the high winds. I’m so ready to ditch the sweatshirts and trade them for tee shirts. I like winter but too much of any good thing is still too much. LOL Hugs XO 🙂

    1. Hi there Grace!
Thank you! I like stacked buttons! I did coat the burlap in Mod Podge, it makes it a lot easier to work with.
Yes Manhattan was fun and Satellite Lane and the rest of the groups put on a great show! Andrew was very happy that we were there! They do spend a lot of time rehearsing but it was well worth it! The video that I took will be on tomorrow’s post!
My Sunday was great! I woke up late and that usually ruins the morning but I didn’t let that happen! I am in complete agreement that too much of a good thing isn’t a good thing anymore! Hugs to you! XOXO 🙂

  3. Very nice card! I am really enjoying that you mainly keep your cards as Stampin Up BUT you are trying other products!!! I love that!! Please let me also know the name of the die you bought off Etsy as it matches perfectly. I ‘need’ to know!!! Thanks for sharing!

    1. Thanks so much Lynne! I like to try other things, there is so much crafty goodness out there!! The dies are from Dies By Dave, if you search for him you should find him! 🙂

  4. A beautiful card with so many gorgeous techniques! Sounds like you are feeling better — you had a great day. Congrats to Satellite Lane! Hello to Andrew! We are still waiting for another card from him. Rest up! Love, Nancy B

    1. Thank you Nancy! I had fun putting the card together! I am feeling much better and Manhattan was great! I will tell Andrew!! Love to you! 🙂

  5. WOW! Of course she loved this card, its beautiful. Did you coat your own burlap or did you purchase it? I love working with burlap but it frays so much. Very clever to also use the die as a stamp, I did the many years ago with my quickutz dies, forgot about doing that. Would you shae the name od the Etsy store, that die is a must have. Congrats to Satellite Lane!

    1. Yay! Thank you Linda! I coated the burlap in Mod Podge myself. Easier that way! Dies By Dave is the Etsy store! 🙂

  6. Hey Justin, beautiful card! Everything works together perfectly. I can’t believe how you just keep on churning out these incredible cards, one after another – is there no end to your creativity!?! Glad you had a good night out, sounds like you guys had lots of fun 🙂 Well, it’s Monday morning, here we go again… Enjoy what’s left of your weekend my friend xoxo

    1. Hi Kelly!
Thank you so much! LOL! Sometimes I wonder where they all come from too! LOL! I hope that there is no end! I wish you a very good week! XOXO 🙂

  7. This card made my day! Thanks for the reminder about turning my dies into stamps. Haven’t done that in a while. Like many others, I’d like to know how to purchase the die you used on the leaves!

    1. Woo hoo! Thank you Theresa! That makes me very happy! The die is from Dies by Dave on Etsy! 🙂

  8. Oh my word!! I’m speechless….okay well maybe just a little 🙂 This card is absolutely GORGEOUS!!! Every detail is exquisite…WOW!!!

We just got back from STOMP and I saw your post, wanted that die, and was searching madly on etsy. I came up with Dies by Dave and I’ve sent him a note about this die, since it isn’t in his store anymore.

    1. Thank you so much Jill! How was STOMP?! I saw that he had some today in the store, hmm… he’ll get them back in! 🙂

      1. It was so different than what I thought it would be and BETTER!! They did funny skits and used everything but the kitchen sink, oh wait a minute, they DID use kitchen sinks – to make music, lol! My son is becoming a percussionist, so we thought it would be a blast for him to see ingenuity with music. A lot like your friends Satellite Lane, except they are gifted with beautiful voices 😉 I couldn’t believe the things they used to make music with, plastic accordion gutter spouts, big inner tube tires, even plastic grocery bags. Just shows you can find music in everything 😀

        1. Yay! That’s so good to hear! Sounds like a lot of fun! You can definitely find music in so many things! Glad that you had a great time! 🙂

      2. You know Justin, I’ve got to learn to read ALL of the title. I didn’t understand that the coffee leaves were the leaves I wanted. I glanced at it, I saw the ocotopus and the rose panel and didn’t open the other pictures. Oh well, I’ve got the leaves ordered now 🙂

        1. LOL! Oh no! I think that he’s not allowed to use the actual name for the stamp set that the dies cut out! Glad that you finally got the correct dies ordered! 🙂

  9. PS: I had to get the Rose panel die he had and I told him to be prepared to have a bunch of people wanting the leaf die, lol!!

  10. So so pretty! I just love the burlap flower! Great job with this weeks team card!

  11. Beautiful card, Justin! The embossed butterfly die cut creates a striking contrast to the 2-dimensional stamped embossed butterfly. Great idea to create your own stamp from the butterfly die! Thanks for sharing that. And I *love* the texture of your burlap flower!!! Great design!

Thanks for sharing your outing with your friends. Sounds like it was a great evening out! I really *love* music . . . and dance, too.

    1. Thank you El! I had fun putting that card together! Glad you enjoyed it!
I always have fun with my peeps and enjoying sharing my days with you! 🙂
