Freshly Made Sketches 143 and a Quilt!

I had a very busy day yesterday! Busy but in a good way! I was up quite late on Thursday night, my friend Heather stopped by at 12:30AM with a large bottle of wine that needed finishing, I had to help her! I got up yesterday morning a lot later than I usually do and got right to organizing and putting stuff away. Andrew came by around 1:00PM with pizza for lunch, just when you think he can’t get any better! He helped me put up shelves and pictures, organize and put away more stuff. I feel very accomplished and that makes me very happy! I watched a movie last night, Non-Stop with Liam Neeson, a very good but tense movie. Those are fun sometimes aren’t they?! This morning I have a lot on my list too. I need to see if I can get the rest of my stuff out of the old apartment and work on some projects for tomorrow’s Creation Station Blog Tour. I’m also going to head into Manhattan around 2:00Pm to meet up with my friend Kim. Satellite Lane has a proposal to do in Central Park and we are going to go and see that. After Andrew, Kim and I are going to go and have some dinner and drinks! A busy day, I hope I can get it all done!

One of the best parts of my blog is getting to know some of you through comments and emails. A very sweet friend of mine, Grace, shares some pictures with me from time to time. The other day she sent me a picture of a quilt that she had made. I was amazed at how beautiful it is! I know some people that quilt and it’s not easy work. I asked her if I could share the picture with you and she graciously said yes! Here it is in all it’s glory…

Log Cabin Quilt-WM

Isn’t it gorgeous! Great colors and patterns! Thank you Grace for letting me share your beautiful creation!

One more thing before I get to today’s card. Someone had asked me the other day what I call my craft space. I don’t have a name for it. I thought it would be fun to get suggestions from you! You guys always have such inventive ways to describe things. I posted a picture of it the other day and you can see it HERE. Leave me a comment and let me know what you think it should be called!

Now on to today’s card which is for this week’s Freshly Made Sketches challenge from Cindy L….

Freshly Made Sketches #143

I love the layout! So many possibilities! I used some Crumb Cake Card Stock for the base of the card. The stars are created with the Hearts & Stars Mask, a Sponge Dauber and Crumb Cake Ink. A strip of paper from the Confetti Celebration Designer Series Paper Pack goes across the bottom. Next up I cutout a piece of Bermuda Bay with two of the Circles Collection Framelits. A piece of Vellum Card Stock is also cut out and adhered behind the circle with Multi-Purpose Glue and a little more glue adheres it to the card. A strip of Pistachio Pudding and a one of Basic Gray, with the right side flagged, are mounted to the card with Stampin’ Dimensionals on top of the Designer Series Paper. My greeting is from the Hi There Stamp Set and is stamped in Tangelo Twist and punched out with the 3/4″ Circle Punch. To add a little sparkle I adhered three Pistachio Pudding 2013-2015 In-Color Sequins to the vellum circle. The masked stars are a fun addition to the background and I love those sequins! Thanks for taking a little time out of your busy day to come by and visit with me to see my card for this week’s Freshly Made Sketches challenge. You all make my days better! Don’t forget to let me know what my stamp space should be called by leaving a comment. I hope that you also enjoyed Grace’s quilt as much as I did! Have a wonderful Saturday! 🙂

  1. WOW, what a day you have planed, I’m already tired. Ha. Ha. I like this card, very much, with the circles and the velum and the stars. Your photography of it is also very clear. Grace’s quilt is fabulous. I am a very crafty person, avid crocheter, but quilting was always beyond my grasp. I admire and appreciate anyone who can quilt. Great job Grace! Now on to your crafting space name. How about your “Cozy Space”. I am looking very forward to other’s suggestions. Good Luck! 🙂

    1. LOL! Yes, Nancy a little too much for one day I think! Thanks! I love to use a little vellum to brake things up. I’m happy to have my little “photography studio” back, although I need some better lighting in the craft space. Grace did a beautiful job with the quilt! I like cozy space, because it definitely is! Have a wonderful Saturday! 🙂

  2. Hi Justin,

What a cool card! I love the vellum circle…and the stars mask! The new masks are such a great tool! As for your crafting place, I would call it “My Stamping Haven”, because that’s how I think of my space… LOL! Have a great Saturday!

    1. Thanks Melanie! I love the masks too! That’s a good name, it’s definitely a have for me! Enjoy the rest of your day! 😉

  3. What a busy day you have ahead of you! That quilt is beautiful. I can do many crafty things but quilting is beyond me! How about you call your space your stampin’ nook . 🙂 My craft room needs better lighting too. It’s fine with the huge window during the day but most of my stamping happens at night.

    1. Yes, but I do prefer busy Christina! I could never make a quilt, I don’t have the attention span! I like Stampin’ Nook! I tried to get lights today but with no success. It’s dark in the walk in all the time! 😉

  4. Great card- so stylized! The quilt is gorgeous – wow! I’ve always wanted to quilt, but it’s such a huge commitment! I think I’ll stick with making cards – I can finish one in a day. As for your crafting space – Craft Closet? Closetudio? It’s gonna be hard to top Fungeon! Lol!

    1. Thank you Elisha! Yes, quilt is amazing! It’s definitely a lot of work. I’m with you, making cards is good for me too! I like Closetudio! That’s a contender! 😉

  5. I have been following you for awhile now, really like your style and enjoy seeing the photos of New York City. How about The Creative Closet for the name of your crafting space. Mine is forever on the kitchen table since I don’t have any other space to put it in…works for me. Thank you for sharing your talent. Sharon King

    1. Hi Sharon! Thanks for coming along on my adventure! I’m living all the suggestions for my craft space! Thanks for taking time to comment! Enjoy the rest of your Saturday! 🙂

  6. Hi Justin. Great card today. How about the Copa Cabana for your craft space? Have a great day.

  7. Hi Justin! I’m exhausted listening to what you’ve done and will be doing! 😉 Grace-your quilt is beautiful! I’ve always admired people that can quilt–I’ve never attempted to do that but you are very talented!!! I love your card Justin! My eye went right to the vellum circle and the sequin stars! Love those! The layering is fantastic. I wasn’t too sure about those new masks or stencils but they are starting to grow on me, especially after seeing what you did with them on this card! As far as your new crafting space…how about calling it your Craft Cave? Just a little different take on the Man Cave thing that some people have 🙂 Have a great day Justin!

    1. Hello Karen!
I’m not gonna lie, I’m a little tired too! Grace’s quilt is amazing and a lot of work. I love some layering, especially when it’s concentrated on one part of the card. The masks are definitely neat! I like Craft Cave, it definitely is a little cave like! I hope you are having a nice day! 😉

  8. Hi Justin, I am so glad you sought out my recommendation to name your space! Yay! Brian has his Fungeon. I have My Stampworld. I love Elisha’s suggestion of Closetudio! Brilliant.

    1. Hello Crystal!
Yes, I couldn’t remember who suggested naming the craft space! Thanks! I can’t wait to see all of the suggestions! Enjoy your day! 🙂

  9. I agree with Nancy…. quilters are a special breed. They have an eye for color that totally escapes me. I love all of the suggestions here. I thought of simply “The Playground” or “My Playground”

  10. Oh Justin:

I had my comments all written (I was chatty as always), got a glitch in my computer and it wiped it all out. So frustrating!

First of all, thank you so much for all your kind comments and thank you Justin for lifting my spirits so many times with your blog and reports on all the fun things you do.

Today’s card is fabulous. I love the fact that it seems so totally balanced while having all that great space in the upper right hand corner. I think I would be tempted to stick something there and that would absolutely spoil the look of the card no doubt. I think it’s fantastic that the new star shaped sequins are the same size as those in the stencil……..I mean you can’t get better then that. Also, this card reminded me that I have got to dig out the vellum and start using it! I’ve had it forever but never think about it until I see one of Justin’s creations.

I hope you have a fantastic time in Manhattan. It looks like the weather is going to be perfect. Hopefully you will also get the last of your things out of the old apartment and into the new. That should give you a feeling of accomplishment for sure. As for naming the stamping area, I’m going to need some time to think on it so don’t rush into choosing a name until you give all your faithful readers a chance to think on it. It’s going to be near impossible to equal Brian’s Fungeon but we can have fun finding a name for you.

Have yourself a Stupendous Saturday my friend.

    1. I hate when technology doesn’t cooperate! I love you chatty Grace, wouldn’t have you any other way!
I love your quilt! So much work but well worth it! You lift my spirits just as much!
I too was tempted to do something in the upper corner, but I left it alone and I’m happy I did. Love the sequins and the mask! I use vellum a lot, I think it adds so much to a card.
The weather is beautiful and it was a nice ride in in the convertible. I will have to go to the old place tomorrow morning to get the rear of the stuff, I ran out of time! I looks forward to your suggestion for my stamp space!
I hope that you are having a lovely day my friend! 🙂

  11. Great card, as usual! So glad you’re getting nestled into your new place:)
I always admire beautiful quilts and the skill of the quilters who make them. Grace, your quilt is stunning!
Great suggestions for naming your craft space! My suggestion is your Happy Place because you enjoy card making so much. Unfortunately I don’t think anyone will ever be able to beat Fungeon but we can keep trying!

    1. Thanks Kat! Yes, slowly but surely I’m getting there. Grace did an amazing job! My craft space is definitely my happy place! I’m sure that you guys will come up with some great names!!

  12. Oh my what a gift ! You did such a beautiful quilt ,Grace ! I know you will love this to pieces in the winter watching movies and t.v. ,Justin
Now …naming your space is tricky . Wonder if Kreative Korner would fit ? Maybe ….just try it on for size ! As far as that card of yours ,I really like the Vellum …you just gave me an idea for a card I am designing ….I will use some Vellum ! Thank you !

    1. It’s stunning isn’t it Sonny! Grace is super talented! I like Kreative Korner, goes with the k in my last name! Have fun with your vellum! 🙂

  13. Your day is exhausting me, but its going to be fun. Sorry to say this but Grace’s quilt has upstaged your card. I am an avid quilter and this is beautiful!!!!! OK, dont feel hurt, your card is beautiful, but I know how much time goes into quilting. Love anything with crumb cake and the vellum is a nice touch. Darn, seeing your card made me realize that i forgot to order the masks with my order,

    1. LOL! I do try to cram a lot in a day for sure Linda! I agrees that Grace’s quilt is the show stopper today! I know quilting takes a lot more time than cards for sure! Next order for your masks, you gonna live them! 😉

  14. Such a great card. I love to see vellum on a card. It’s got such a great look to it, doesn’t it? Thanks for playing along with our sketch at FMS! And I haven’t got a clever name for your stamping space but Closetudio is a brilliant suggestion!

    1. Thank you Jen! I do love vellum! It adds a nice touch! Love your sketches! I agree Closetudio is quite clever! Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

  15. Hi Justin,
Great card! I love the stencil’s! I think they add so much detail for such little cost! The vellum is perfect on this card. I always think your last card is my favorite and then I see the next!
I loved the card you made for Andrew also. I was passing that stamp set by but now…I may have to rethink it! I love the skyline effect you did! Perfect!
You certainly are a busy person! And I agree that you did the right thing in helping your friend with the wine, what else could you do?
I know you will be glad to not have to make the trip back to your old place anymore, one less thing to do in your 24 hours!
I hope you had a great time in Manhattan, and hope the engagement went well! I am sure you enjoyed your dinner with your friends also.
I have just been taking it easy and not doing too much, per the doctors orders! I am not a good patient but the pain has a way of making me listen. They feel that I have a herniated disc, so I will start physical therapy soon. I have to get better soon, I leave in two weeks for a three week road trip! I will be going, no matter what! I am off to Florida for two weeks then to Tennessee to visit my best friend from high school. So I am trying to be good now!
Grace’s quilt is beautiful! I love quilts! I have never tried making one, a bit intimidated by it, but I do know that they are a lot of work. Thank you for sharing her talent with us!
I love Closetudio for your craft space! I had to laugh at the naming of your room, I named mine as soon as I moved! Mine is my creative play space. I thought I was the only one who named their space!
Thank you for taking the time to share with us,
    donna

    1. Hello Donna!
Thank you! Yes, the stencils are cool! I hope that I keep up that track record!
The skyline in that set is the main reason I got it! I love it and am glad that you liked the card!
I am way too busy, I think I may have finally petered out! Oh, what friend wouldn’t help another out with a bottle of wine?!
I am finally finished moving, I still have some organizing to do but I’m over the whole thing and it will happen when it does!
Manhattan was awesome! You’ll hear all about it tomorrow!
I am sorry that you are still in pain but it’s good that you are listening! I need to go and see someone about the tingling that I have in my left are from time to time. It’s getting worse but I haven’t had time and I’m not a fan of the Dr at all! I think that if you follow the Dr’d orders you’ll be fine in time for your trip! I’ll keep you in my thoughts to speed you along!
Grace’s quilt was stunning! I know people that quilt and it’s a huge amount of work! My hats off to her!
I am liking Closetudio too, it’s the front runner for now! I didn’t have a name for my space in the last place but Crystal thinks I should and I like the idea, but I thought it would be fun to involve you guys!
I hope you had a restful but fun Sunday! 🙂

  16. Love your card and the vellum! I have been using your idea ever since I first saw it on one of your previous gorgeous cards!

But even though your card is totally awesome, that quilt is something else!!! Oh wow… the patience and creativity it must take is way beyond my own abilities. It is absolutely amazing and beautiful Grace! Thank you Justin for sharing her work.

As for a name for the walk-in…. humm, love the Kreative Korner so maybe something that would incorporate the JK…. like JK’s Kreative Walk-In Korner… kinda of long I know! or JK’s Inkin’Walk-In…..Can’t wait to see what you decide upon.

Now I have to go rest for a bit, after reading your post someone has to be resting for you since you don’t have time….LOL… so wish I had half your energy my friend.

    1. Thank you Louise! I do like a little Vellum! I am with you on Grace’s quilt! She knocked it out of the park! I will probably combine a few and see and see what I can come up with. I appreciate all of the suggestion and it’s a little fun too! I appreciate the rest for me, that nut be why I was able to do so much today! 🙂
