Freshly Made Sketches 188 & Pals Paper Arts 253

Well, my trend of sleeping in on Saturdays continues! Not that 7:30 is late but it is for me! Yesterday was another nice day, warm, a little humid but the sun felt nice! My friend Danielle stopped by after work to pick up two birthday cards. I am being good and using ones that I already have in my stash! I Skyped with Andrea for a while and we crafted together. I made my two cards for today and she worked on some swaps. Taylor stopped by and watched some Netflix, she is a little addicted to it! I spent a little time watching TV and then called it a day. Today I’m not sure what I’m doing, which sometimes is nice!

So of the two cards that I have for you today my first one is for this week’s Freshly Made Sketches challenge…

Freshly Made Sketches 188

Thanks to Jen B. for choosing my card for last week’s challenge! The card base is Neenah Solar White 110lb. I used the Simon Says Stamp Stitched Rectangles to cut out a piece of Early Espresso for the frame and also a piece of Window Sheet. Thin strips of foam tape around the frame adheres it to the card. Some American Crafts Gold Glitter Paper is backed with some Stick-it and cut out with the Simon Says Stamp Hello Die and then adhered to the window. My flowers are created with the Tim Holtz Sizzix Tiny Tattered Florals Thinlits from Cherry Cobbler and the leaves from Old Olive. They are adhered to the window frame with Glue Dots. I was going to make it a shaker card but I really like the way the hello just seems to float above the card with nothing behind it!

The second card I made is for this week’s Pals Paper Arts sketch challenge…

PPA 253

A neat sketch and I’m loving that funky edge! The card base on this one is also Neenah Solar White 110lb. The background is a piece of paper from the NEW Cherry on Top Designer Series Paper Stack and I just used a ruler to draw the angled edge and cut it with my Paper Snips. My panel in the middle is a piece of Whisper White that I cut out with the Simon Says Stamp Flag Card Die. The greeting is from the May Paper Pumpkin Kit and is stamped in Island Indigo. I adhered the card to the base with SNAIL and Fun Foam. The flag at the top is also cut out with the same die from a piece of Gold Glimmer Paper. I doubled up the Fun Foam to adhere it and give it a little more dimension. A scattering of Pretty Pink Posh Gold Sequins adhered with Crystal Effects gives the card some sparkle. I love the simplicity and that funky edge!

  1. Hi Justin,
Both cards are great. I especially love the first one!! The gold hello in the window is beautiful.

  2. Hi Justin:

A double dip design delight day! (Go ahead and say that five times in a row) LOL. The first card is so very striking. I don’t usually like Tim Holtz products but these flowers are gorgeous and would be great as decorations for a Christmas Tree stamp! The floating “Hello” is really charming and definitely draws the eye immediately. I love this card. It’s elegance lies in it’s simplicity for sure.

The funky edged card is also pretty neat. I absolutely love the stamp and the font is gorgeous. Of course, being the glitter queen, I appreciate the use of the gold glimmer paper and the sequins.

Working on spring cleaning this week. Washing windows, putting up screens, moving furniture and, of course, the dreaded dusting. When I was young and foolish I loved to clean. Now I’m older and wiser and prefer to spend my time on “fun” things. Hmmm, there must be a happy medium in there somewhere. You have yourself a sublime Saturday my friend. Hugs from Maine XO 🙂

    1. Hello Grace!
I love the little things that you come up with! I thought that the flowers were neat and they are nice and easy to make! They do look a little like Poinsettias. I think that the greeting on the second card is fun, I really do like the stamps that come in the Paper Pumpkin Kits! A little sparkle makes every card better!
I used to like to clean too, now there just isn’t enough time! I hope to one day find the happy medium too! It was a nice relaxing Saturday, I hope that yours was enjoyable too! XOXO 🙂

  3. Ahhhh . . . a Saturday with no plans at all. How unique! These two cards are very nice. The flowers look like poinsettia and are very nice also.
    🙂

    1. LOL! Yes indeed Nancy! Although, I really do prefer to have something to do! Thank you! Yes, the flowers do look like poinsettias. 🙂

  4. I am in love with the glittery “hello” floating above those gorgeous tattered florals! The look of that card is so bold and yet so elegant! And I’ll admit that funky banner on the PPA sketch had me running for the hills, but you make it sound so easy to do that maybe I’ll give it a try. Thanks for playing along with us at Freshly Made Sketches!

    1. Thanks very much Jen! The flowers are really neat, they even come with the tool to roll them up! The edge one the Pals Paper Arts sketch took me a minute but it’s cool because it’s a little different! I hope you are having a nice weekend and that you will have a wonderful week! 🙂

  5. Wow twobeauties, Greetings from Clearwater,FL it is beautiful here. Grossly hot and humid not complaining get my kids tell me it’s 50 back home, yuck I really love both creations that sketch is awesome and I love the glitter hello and flowers reminds eof a Christmas card.Takecare.

    1. Thank you Linda! I hope that you are enjoying yourself there in FL! It’s been nice here but we are to get rain later today and for the next two days. So glad that you like the cards! Have a super day! 🙂

  6. Hey Justin 🙂 two great cards! The first is my favourite, that window is just gorgeous! I love how you can make a card that is clean and uncluttered and yet it doesn’t look unfinished at all. Those flowers are perfect on that ‘window sill’! The second card is cool too, the sequins set it off – and the accessories! You’re too good! It’s 7am on Sunday and I’m exhausted – stayed up til 2:30am doing more maths homework with my daughter – she said “I can’t stop now, I’m in the zone!” Lord knows she doesn’t get in the ‘zone’ very often, so we just kept on going!! Hope I can sneak a nana-nap sometime this afternoon… 🙂 Happy Sunday to you Justin xoxo

    1. Hi Kelly!
Thank you very much! I was going to make it a shaker and when I laid the window down on the card I thought, nah just leave it! I do have fun creating and I’m so glad that I get to share it with you! I am with you on the child being in the zone, that doesn’t happen often! Hope you get to have your nap! Enjoy your day! XOXO 🙂

  7. Hi Justin,
Loving the cards today and the sun on yesterday’s one just makes me smile, a real feel good card. The hello does look like a bit of magic with it floating in the frame! I received the new SU catalogue in the post and again have a long wish list! I’ll start working on it once I can order here! Glad to hear you had a late start to your Saturday, I’m the same that I have trouble laying in. I think it comes from early shifts with me, I always preferred them. Have great weekend. xo

    1. Hello Michelle!
Thank you! I do love that sun stamp, he’s just really happy! The new Stampin’ Up! catalog has some neat stuff in it, although it has definitely gotten thinner. I like to get up early, I feel like I’m wasting time when I sleep in. My weekend is going well, hope that yours is too! 🙂

  8. Justin I love your PPA card! The font on that sentiment stamp is so cute and the Island Indigo ink really makes it stand out. And the Glimmer Paper is a nice addition. Thank you for sharing your talent with us this week at Pals Paper Arts!

  9. Both are really pretty Justin, but the “Hello” is a show stopper! I love the bling and how it looks to be inside a window with those gorgeous flowers in a window box. Well Done! Thanks for playing along with us at PPA.

    1. Thank you Beth! I’m so glad that you enjoyed them both! The flowers are fun and easy to make too! Have a super week! 🙂

  10. I love, love, love die cuts and 3-dimensional cards. Your Hello card is a beauty. I have that Tiny Tattered Florals die set and after seeing your flowers, just have to make some myself. Yours are so striking! Love the bling on your HB card. Great cards, Justin!

    1. Thank you so much EL! I think that Tiny Tattered Florals Die is cool, and so easy to use! So glad that you enjoyed the cards! 🙂
